Pro-life group: Palin said she’d attend our event; Palin: No, I didn’t
posted at 9:45 pm on August 27, 2009 by Allahpundit
Yeah, there’s a track record of crossed signals when it comes to her appearances, but this one does smell like a set-up by the event organizers.
Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said Wednesday, in response to inquiries from the Daily News about tonight’s event, that “this is the first we have ever heard of a speech.” She said Palin is out of state and won’t be there…
Alaska Family Council President Jim Minnery said it was news to him when a reporter told him that Stapleton was saying Palin had no knowledge of the speech, which his group has been promoting. He said organizers have been talking to Palin “contacts” for weeks about it.
“All we can do is take people at their word that we’ve worked with in the past,” Minnery said. “We’ve been working for several weeks on the event, promoting it very heavily. It would be a grave disappointment if she doesn’t show up but the show will still go on.”
He declined to say who the organizers had been speaking to. “I’d just prefer to keep it kind of anonymous right now, especially since you’re hearing something that’s opposite of what we’ve been hearing.”
A source tells CNN that Palin’s been “set up a few times before” by Minnery and C4P notes that he knocked her unfairly on two occasions as governor. But, per the ADN:
Stapleton said Palin had previously agreed to be the first signer of the petition for the ballot measure pushed by the family council. But, “obviously since the signature-gathering process started a couple of weeks ago there was less pressure to get home to be the first to sign,” she said Wednesday.
Minnery said organizers had already started collecting signatures but still planned for Palin’s signature to appear as the first “official” one on the first petition packet. That packet was set aside with space for her to sign at tonight’s event.
Here’s the pro-life group’s webpage; scroll down for their statement insisting that “We were assured that Governor Palin was personally aware of this evening’s event, and that she twice confirmed her intent to participate.” Sounds like maybe the group thought that her willingness to sign meant she’d be at the event whereas she thought they’d bring the petition to her home to sign. Whatever the answer, I wonder: Why does this stuff keep happening to her? Granted, there’s heavy demand for her right now as a speaker so she’s more of a target for “but she promised she’d come!” nonsense, but other pols have been in heavy demand before — Obama, for instance, or Giuliani after 9/11 — and haven’t seemed to run into this problem. If it’s all a matter of people lying about appearances she never promised to make, why didn’t Giuliani run into the same trouble?

One of the things that Palin needs to do in a big way is to raise her game on her level of staff work.
I made this point over on C4P and expect to get hammered over it, but there is no way that Meg Stapelton is ready for prime time.
Sarah is the second most sought-after pol in the nation, after BHO. Right now, unless I miss my guess, all she has is Meg and probably a few Wasilla buddies opening envelopes.
She needs a vicious, no-nonsense Robespierre to man the guillotine and get her schedule going six months out. She’s the headliner at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference and Meg, bless her heart, hasn’t even confirmed Sarah for that event. If Palin screws up SRLC, you can turn out the lights.
I like Meg; she’s loyal and a gut fighter. But she’s not chief of staff material, and Palin needs to start thinking about putting together a national campaign.

Cuz Palin is an arrogant dimwit who’s become a diva. She thinks she can do whatever she likes like accepting an invitation and not showing up or being fashionably late or spending tens of thousands of dollars of other people’s money on clothes.

Seems like if Palin had confirmed, there would be some document– even an email– to show.

Hey folks! This is whats called Leadership. Sarah is not going allow herself to be bullied around by any special interest group. We know where she stands on the life issue. She doesn’t have to pander.
I’ve had my doubts about Sarah in the past but I’m starting to get real excited about what I’m seeing from her as of late. Darvin Dowdy

This lady hates me because i show Palin some tough love.
You do know that Obama probably would have never ran if he didn’t have David Axelrod by his side encouraging him to do so?
TimeTraveler on August 27, 2009 at 10:38 PM
“why didn’t Giuliani run into the same trouble?”
1. They aren’t as afraid of Rudy
2. Palin resonates with the masses; the average folks. She puts things in way they can understand. She also isn’t likely to “do as she is told” by the party elite. So she has both Republicans and Democrats gunning for her trying to shoot her down.
These are very effective plays at sabotaging appearances later on when she really DOES go on the road. It puts doubts in people’s minds about whether she will show or not. Rudy crowds aren’t nearly as enthusiastic. Look at his crowds in the primary vs. Palins crowds.
This is all about sowing the field with salt. I have no doubt these are setups. There is no way she would personally promise to be someplace and then not only show but say she never made the promise.
My guess is there is someone who is pretending to be her staffers on the phone. I would make sure I called them, and not rely on someone calling me. If you have an office phone system, it is even possible to set the “caller id” to anything you want it to be.
Try calling the office back next time and verifying that they in fact are the people you were talking to. Heck, Democrats will even sabotage their own party offices to make Republicans look bad. How much does a phone call cost? Not a bad investment.
I say setup.

Amazingly I made this comment this morning in this thread=
So what happens hours later? Here comes another conservative tripping along believing what they read out of the ADN- a newspaper known to bald faced lie to help their fellow liberals and slam Palin.
Good grief.
This is one of the most common occurrences in the political world. Groups announce someone is coming or has been invited, even though they may have gotten a maybe about attending.
Yes it has happened to Rudy a number of times, but nobody cares because this is such a common practice.
That is, nobody really cares unless it relates to Sarah Palin and the media is attempting to label her. Then the suckers that want to believe this actually believe it.
What do you want to bet that in a few months, this group will be whining and sniveling stating that Palin promised, when she really has not. In fact, if you search well enough, you find out that all of the speakers have only been invited, that does not mean that any of them will actually show up.
Still amazes me that so many suckers are willing to believe anything they feel like believing because it slams Palin, as they did with President Bush. 5 years later the truth comes out that Bush did volunteer to go to Vietnam, but was denied.

jerrytbg on August 27, 2009 at 10:43 PM
I’m talking serious people, though. Meg is, basically, a staffer.
Palin’s problem is simple: she doesn’t know who to trust in her hires. Meg is still with her because Meg is ruthlessly, painfully loyal. Right now, loyalty and honor count for a lot with Sarah.
Sarah, you’ll recall, went through the McCain Campaign last year. She saw almost everyone around her, who she thought were her friends, start to dump on her when things went south.
Sarah also knows that a lot of the good campaign people were Bushies who wanted to work with Mitt, and were somewhat crestfallen that the crazy old pilot chose her. Naturally, the Bushies on the campaign did what they could to screw her.
The people who like Sarah in the Party are basically the Reagan holdovers, the people who remember 1980 and 1984. It’s those people Sarah needs.
There is almost nobody Sarah can trust in D.C., which is part of the problem in getting a good chief of staff.

When it comes to trying to get Sarah Palin to appear at an event I get the distinct impression that there are a lot of event organisers who a) are counting their chickens way before they hatch and b) have ego’s that are writing checks that their butts cant cash.
Basically as they said over at C4P when it comes to booking SP for an appearance unless you get a public conformation from Meg Stapleton don’t hold your breath that Sarah Palin will show up based on the premise that she has been invited to attend.

I see it’s open season on the libtard trolls again. I must say I particularly liked the “little rectal polyp” call. Haven’t heard that one before.
Of course this never happened to Guiliani, I like him but he’s not someone who worries the left. Palin on the other hand scares them silly so they trot out the Ailinsky playbook and it says to ridicule and demean her anyway they can however silly it may be. It was really funny to hear Whoopie Goldberg complain that Sarah was only playing dumb as she was obviously very intelligent. Guess Whoopie didn’t have her lines down.
They’re now paying trolls to attack her Facebook page but from what I see it isn’t working and her numbers are going thru the roof. She’ll be over a million on Facebook alone in another week or so and that doesn’t include Team Sarah, and her now defunct but still growing AK Gov. Twitter account among others. And she just made an even bigger star out of Glenn Beck by suggesting to her followers that they watch him this week.
So boring libtard trolls – you lose!
