Video: Beck interviews Limbaugh on the threat to free speech
posted at 8:36 pm on August 26, 2009 by Allahpundit
Another day, another harrowing clip of one of our new “czars” extolling the virtues of radical leftism. And yet, Limbaugh’s right: If bringing back Fairness was ever seriously part of The One’s agenda, the moment to do it has safely passed. To pull off something like that would require a complacent right and a broad independent middle energized with Hopenchange fever. Thanks to ObamaCare, we now have the opposite. Lefty Dan Gerstein surveys the landscape:
Step back for a second, listen to what the non-screaming skeptics are saying, and it’s clear the party severely overestimated its mandate and underestimated the public’s growing unease with the government’s massive growth over the last year. What would have been a hard sell in any environment has turned into an epic challenge. Yet the Democrats have been charging ahead as if it’s still November 2008, oblivious to the dramatic change in the electorate’s mood…
The president chose not to lead with his own [health-care] plan, and Congress filled the vacuum with a multitude of partisan bills. This only heightened the public’s confusion and wariness. The Democrats went back and forth for weeks on how to pay for their bills and then settled on Medicare cuts as the prime cost-saver, fueling doubts about whether it would be deficit neutral as the president promised. Worst of all, the House bills, which have been the locus of public attention, were found by CBO to actually raise costs instead of lowering them. That undermined the president’s credibility and the public’s confidence in Congress’ competence…
If Democrats are going get out of this hole and pass a meaningful health care bill, Kohut argues, they are going to have to address this broad distrust of government, which is becoming more acute among independents and even some Democrats.
Obama’s polling (now down to 51/44 at Gallup) will bounce back and he’ll almost certainly get something passed on health care but that “broad distrust of government” ain’t going away, especially with things like cap-and-trade on the horizon. So long as distrust is high, the odds of Democrats instituting stealth Fairness are even lower than the odds of them holding onto Congress long-term. The One will have to content himself with creepy idiocy like this, which I expect will be about as effective as the alleged plan to replace memories of 9/11 with a commitment to flower power or whatever.
Exit question: Is Beck serious here when he talks about the White House using some sort of disaster as a pretext to impose emergency rule? We’re only seven months into The One’s term and already he’s right at the brink of Reichstag Fire scenarios? I don’t think the left dropped those on Bush until his second year in office, at least. How’s GB going to hold it together for another three years if he’s already this close to the edge?

Beck’s ratings are through the roof. The boycott is looking like a bad joke. Advertisers will realize that Beck’s people will go out of their way to support them IF they stand by Beck.

Agreed.
I never understood this country’s fascination with the Kennedy’s. Joseph Sr. was about as crooked as they come. I guess it’s like Beck says of the czars. Go into government dirty and come out sweaky clean.
I told my wife the other day when we were watching our taping of the show when he had his connections chalk board that this was like a money laundering scheme except it was a charactor laundering scheme.

Never, ever thought I would have to even remotely consider a conspiracy to take away my civil liberites–especially coming from the WH. But, if what Beck says about the ideologies of the obama ‘czars’ is even partly true, then I guess I should be worried. Looks as if ‘czars’ might be the appropiate word. For the first time, I began to think in terms of living like the average Venezuelan, Cuban or a subject of some repressive Islamic regime and what that might be like. I’m plenty old enough to recall the news reels and read the accounts of what life in the USSR under Communism was like…equal doses of misery for everyone but the Politburo. Even Russia sees that that didn’t work. We must run,not walk, to the nearest polling place in 2010 and throw these leftists out…followed by obama and company after that.

I was Air Force and many of my family members were or are in the military so I’m not unfamiliar with the forces. I know there are people that would not fire and that there are people that would. There are also a lot of unsure people that will not know what they should do.
I worry about the ones that would which in stressful moments might push the unsure into firing.

The term “puppet” suggests control. Last time I checked, people were watching and listening to Beck by choice. Of course, it would be folly to consider that Beck is being alarmist because there’s something to be alarmed about, right?
SKYFOX on August 27, 2009 at 10:29 AM
We are learning that radical special-interest groups are the authors of the huge bills that were “shovel ready” in the house on inauguaration day. How can we say those were without Obama’s knowledge? Maybe he did not know the details of the bills, but he likely knew the identity of the authors, which would be enough for him to bless them.
The information that Beck has presented, sofar without contradiction, demonstrates that much of Obama’s agenda will be accomplished outside the legislative or judicial process. For example, the FCC is doing what it is doing. This, added to Obama’s express view that the civil rights movement made a major error by becoming too involved with the court system, tells us that Obama is just going to do these things with his czars. While we believe that the public outcry will have some impact on members of congress regarding bills that must be enacted, public outrage is not likely to have as much impact on the administrative machinery that is in place and that is being filled by the type of people we have seen on Beck’s shows. This is going to be difficult to stop.

This is political paranoia at it’s finest.

faraway on August 27, 2009 at 10:43 AM
There is no conspiracy.
What there is (and has been) is incrementalism. Chipping away here and there, on mundane things like making sure garage sales comply with federal government regulations (a power not found in the Commerce Clause or anywhere else) or bigger things such as the War on Drugs. Dear Leader has merely accelerated such things, which is an overreach & miscalculation on His part.

Obama’s mom (and her dad) was a Communist. His Dad was at a minimum a Socialist.
Obama was mentored by the Communist Party member Frank Davis.
Obama wrote in his book that he chose to hang around with Marxist professors and radicals.
Obama’s other mentor was the co-founder of the Weather Underground, Bill Ayers.
Let’s not draw any conclusions from this though.

Sure. It’s not just Rahm’s or BO’s tactic … been around for a while …
- War on Poverty … welfare. Get’em hooked on the government.
- War on Drugs … due process circumvented The police just get to keep your property.
- War on Crime … 1968 Gun Control Act. Law abiding activity now criminalized.
From the Drug and Crime wars we also get ‘no knock warrants’ …
- War on Terror … Patriot Act. Secret courts, federal agents w/o warrants …
Each one identified as a ‘crisis’ in America. Each one requiring individuals to ‘sacrifice a little liberty to gain some security’.
The financial market is a ‘crisis’. Healthcare is a ‘crisis’. Everything is marketed as a ‘crisis’ to corral panicky sheep into the pen in hope that the government will save them.
Go search on “Clowder Piven Strategy”. It is a strategy to bring down capitalism through overwhelming ‘the system’. I would suggest giving it a read, your’s, or someone’s, tax dollars paid for it (Clowder and Piven worked at Columbia if I recall).
Clowder-Piven isn’t so much about picking one sector to go after, but does recognize the heart of capitalism is thru financial aspects. Hinder private business thru regulation, get people locked into government subsistance, stifle & demonize dissent, ya-da, ya-da … everything you see going on around you.
How will it be resolved? Personally, I do not believe it will be resolved thru the courts, legislation, our representatives, etc., but thru other means.

If you hang out with a bunch of academics, specifically those in the humanities fields, it is likely that you will come to know a few Marxists. If hanging out with Marxists makes Obama a Marxist, does also his hanging out with non-Marxists make him a non-Marxist?
Marxists have a peculiar form of thought all their own. Once you’ve had discourse with a few (not only did I study a bit of Marx directly, but also I was very politically active in college, and I debated quite a few of them), you learn to recognize it. Obama most certainly does not hold a teleological view of history, nor does he analyze things using dialectic principles.
For Obama to be a Marxist, or even a socialist, would be for him to adhere fast to principles. He does no such thing–he is a pragmatist–just like his predecessor in the Oval Office–only with a leftward bent.
hicsuget on August 27, 2009 at 11:29 AM
Time and time again, it has been disproven that American’s, under stress “panic”.
The movies always show people yelling, shoving, out of control in stressful panic situations, so many just assume that is how people are…they ignore facts.
Take for instance the landing of the plane in the Hudson river…complete calm.
It would be hard pressed for you to come up with a situation, in the past 50 years (I am sure you can Google one out of thousands), showing that we don’t use “common sense” where common sense is needed.
Get you head out of what journalists, and movies feed you, and learn about “real” people…the military can, will, and have shown incredible restraint on American soil. And common every day people, show incredible calm and constraint when faced with the worst of situations…we are an amazing people, that is what confounds the left.

Beck is being tempered with quality guests like Horowitz

A pragmatist does not intentionally promote policies that have no other end result than bigger government with more control over peoples lives. A pragmatist does not quadruple our debt and then plan to spend trillions more without a specific end in mind.
Obama is no pragmatist and as history as shown, socialists come in all stripes. Fascism was Mussolini’s version of socialism.
I mean c’mon. It almost feels ridiculous to argue this point. Obama even supported the communist “president” of Honduras. The Hondurans actually followed their law and Constitution and all Obama has done is punish them.
Every action Obama has taken goes against the grain of our Constitution and capitalism.
darwin on August 27, 2009 at 11:38 AM
There is “hanging out” and “hanging out”.
You try to diminish his relationship with the term “hanging out”…you think being a 20 year member of a church espousing these ideals, with him extolling the virtues of his pastor, and stating that his pastor was a mentor and an important influence, is just “hanging out”.
Then you have to assume his definition, and yours, as “hanging out” is defined by that relationship.
So his “hanging out”, with Alinsky, and his other radical friends (Ayers, Wright, Larry Sinclair, Farrakhan, Pfleger, Dorn), has to be put in the context of his definition.
“Hanging out” to him is a sincere devotion to the principles of the person he is “hanging out” with.
Please, define your words more honestly…hanging out is shown to be devotion to.

Surprised nobody brought up the fact that Obama decided to take over detainee interrogation from the CIA and create a new special interrogation unit that reports directly to the White House.
“Obama signed off late last week on the new unit, named the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group, or HIG. Composed of experts from several intelligence and law enforcement agencies, the interrogation unit will be housed at the FBI but will be overseen by the National Security Council, shifting the center of gravity away from the CIA and giving the White House direct oversight.”
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/world_us/20090824_In_the_Nation.html

Actually, I’m not surprised to hear Glenn talk about this. Mark Levin talked about it pre-election (he can call Glenn whatever he wants – just so long as the information gets out there for people to digest). I usually like Glenn’s show, and I realize he can be a bit much for some. Yes, Allah brings up good points and plays the devil’s advocate, but he does have a bee in his bonnet about Glenn. The important thing here is that Beck brings up good points as well. If our friendly neighborhood Socialists can’t enact the Fairness Doctrine directly, then they’ll go the stealth route and take freedom of speech away via some malformed “diversity” sneak play.
Bottom line: The One’s administration/plans all seem to be about the removal of our freedoms and the distortion or destruction of our Constitution. If it takes crying “Reichstag Fire” to wake the Sleeping Man up – so be it.
The One should take care… I believe many of those showing up at the town halls are not just upset conservatives – I believe the silent majority have begun to awaken. These are the folks that need to be roused from their stupor and focused on what is going on around us. They think that politics is the sewer that it is, and don’t want to be involved. But when their liberties and freedoms are threatened, the behemoth tends to rise…
I hope it happens soon enough.

Instead of worrying about our professional soldiers “being panicked” by angry crowds (oh for the love of God, please don’t confuse the 1970s drafted “don’t-wanna-be-there’s” with today’s all-volunteer soldiers), we ought to be worrying about ObamA’S campaign pledge that he made in Colorado on July 2, 2008: “We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”
I’m reading a biography of Dorothy Thompson, who among other things was an influential columnist right before Hitler began his raid of Europe. Here’s a quote from one of her columns that hit me over the head like a 2×4:
“I think one of the most incredible stories in history is that a man could sit down and write in advance–as Hitler had done in Mein Kampf–exactly what he intended to do; and then, step by step, begin to put his plan into operation. And that the statesmen of the world should continue to say to themselves: ‘He doesn’t really mean it! It doesn’t make sense!’”
Obammma has told us what he intends to do, as Glenn Beck has pointed out on many occasions. I think we’re just gob-smacked by this guy, disbelieving that anyone could actually do what he apparently intends to do to this country.

You are on the wrong website disparaging conservatives then! Try 4chan, DU, or Dkos!
No need to thank me!

No one is challenging Glenn on his facts, now are they. The left attacks him personally, but not on his facts. That speaks for itself.
I worry about an ‘accident’ shutting him down, for example some tragedy caused by an agent procateur engineered to look like a hate crime by a right wing bigot.

Just ignore this clown.
“Spenol” is an European leftie. He doesn’t even live in the US.

What facts? His show is 100% content free. It’s all about emotion, fear mongering and hyperbole.
Spenol on August 27, 2009 at 12:12 PM
That’s right! Obama is not a communist, though he has surrounded himself with them. He is a fascist in the mold of Mussolini. He doesn’t want the government to own the private sector, simply to run it. Fascism.

I know, but it is hilarious getting them to make fools of themselves. The veneer of sophistication, compassion, and intelligence is about a micron thick. I can’t help but throw out a little rope and witness the self-hanging.
The accusations they make are always confessions.

….and Patsy Cline sang it. Is Willie a real American because he is a pot head?
TXMomof3 on August 27, 2009 at 12:14 PM
Are you sure? I could have sworn it was a laxative I saw at Walgreens.
jimmy2shoes on August 27, 2009 at 12:15 PM
Yes, and all our other commentators too.
But for the moment anyway, our hopes depend most on Team Rush-Glenn-Sarah.
petefrt on August 27, 2009 at 12:15 PM
Actually, Spenol is a cow teats moisturizer
Norwegian on August 27, 2009 at 12:19 PM
I’m a leftie? Can you back up that claim?
Spenol on August 27, 2009 at 12:20 PM
You know, Old Willie probably is a hero to the left. After all, he is a tax-dodger. He should receive some kind of appointment in the Obama administration.

Perfect, now all he needs is a 100K+ salary and lots of admins.

They can say what they want about Glenn Beck, but he sure has opened a lot of eyes. The number of trolls on this thread tells you he is on to something.
d1carter on August 27, 2009 at 12:26 PM
When Glen Beck and Rush and Palin and MM disappear it will be because of “Swine Flu” and shortly thereafter, the rest of the ill conservatives will be gathered up and “Confined” till they are “better” or dead.
GunRunner on August 27, 2009 at 12:27 PM
Unbelievable. Enough with the kill the messenger antics.
Who cares what you think of Glenn Beck?
Dispute the facts he reports.
WHY does everything have to be about the personality of someone?!!!
Who cares if you think he’s paranoid or looney? Who cares? He isn’t writing laws! freakin’ morons.
bridgetown on August 27, 2009 at 12:28 PM
Somewhat off topic: Why can we not get a picture of the skinny Rush? Quit using the big Rush!
