Manufactured outrage of the day: Town-hall questioner calls himself a “proud right-wing terrorist”
posted at 7:57 pm on August 26, 2009 by Allahpundit
Olbermann spent a few minutes on this last night, wetting himself at the idea that anyone might use a term like “terrorist” loosely or lightly even though he’s been doing it himself for years. Now HuffPo’s picked up the meme. I can’t tell if they’re honestly oblivious to this guy’s sarcasm or if they’re picking it up just fine and ignoring it in the interest of political point-scoring, but he’s laying it on with a trowel. Do liberals really not get the references here? He claims to have said things that are “fishy,” he’s attended one of those mob-like tea parties, and now, heaven forbid, he’s embraced the “terrorist” within: He’s transparently mocking the left’s hysterical demagoguery over grassroots conservatives’ protests. And the left is either too dumb or too dishonest to recognize it. Righteous exit quotation:
“Congressman Herger stands by his statement in support of his constituent,” read a statement from his office. “Mr. Bert Stead is a taxpayer and veteran, who, like so many others, is rightfully fed up with being called ‘un-American’, or ‘extremist’ or a ‘political terrorist’ by liberals in Washington, for simply exercising his First Amendment rights. Mr. Stead served his country and therefore he is a great American. The Congressman doesn’t at all regret commending him for standing up, exercising his free speech rights, and expressing his strong concerns with the direction liberals in Washington are taking our country.”

Blowback

They are definitely dumb, but also intensely dishonest…so I’ll go with the latter.

Try both, AP.
The left is populated with humorless gits whose heads explode when someone makes them look foolish.
Sadly, the exploded heads regenerate quickly.
MrScribbler on August 26, 2009 at 8:00 PM
The left is immune to introspection, so I vote too dumb to recognize it.

Obviously I can’t speak for Mr. Oberman but Wally seem tickled pink with his constituent.
Cindy Munford on August 26, 2009 at 8:03 PM
turn the lefts arguments against them, I like it! call it a continuation of a “I am a proud member of the vast right wing conspiracy” argument.
rob verdi on August 26, 2009 at 8:05 PM
The Left gets sarcasm. See the HotAir headlines about Colbert/Stewart being “cool.” So I’m guessing it is not about them not getting sarcasm.
terryannonline on August 26, 2009 at 8:07 PM
They are not dumb…dishonest, yes, but not this dumb.
d1carter on August 26, 2009 at 8:07 PM
Sub-machine guns??????? Allah, you should play the clip that Beck had of Mr. Oberman where Keith came up with a convoluted equation to show that he is actually number one in his time spot. I don’t know if Beck edited it for effect or if it was the real deal but it was very funny.
Cindy Munford on August 26, 2009 at 8:08 PM
And the third possibility is that some are too dumb and too dishonest. They have the entire spectrum covered.

Kudos to the Congressman and kudos to the “terrorist”.
Sweet.
These jackass lefties will seize any opportunity to make fools of themselves.
hillbillyjim on August 26, 2009 at 8:09 PM
These people are so transparent. Now they are going to milk this Ted Kennedy thing for everything it is worth, trying to pull some type of emotionally driven rally to their destructive cause. Eventually, someone on the right is going to say something controversial about it, and then they will move their target to that unfortunate soul. Until then, this will make for a convenient villain but soon they’ll find a better one.

FIRST BOOK OF GOVERNMENT PSALM 2009
Obama is the shepherd I did not want.
He leadeth me beside the still factories.
He restoreth my faith in the Republican party.
He guideth me in the path of unemployment for his party’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the bread line,
I shall fear no hunger for his bailouts are with me.
He has anointed my income with taxes,
My expenses runneth over.
Surely, poverty and hard living will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will live in a mortgaged home forever.
I am glad I am American,
I am glad that I am free.
But I wish I was a dog …
And Obama was a tree.

Itchee Dryback on August 26, 2009 at 8:19 PM
Now I don’t know how you can say that with a guy (read filthy liar) in the White House whose intellectual merit was less important than filling an affirmative action quota and a VEEP who as an academic got caught plagerizing. Not to mention the assortment of street thugs heading up the shadow government.
These, friend are the people in control of government.

If Olberman is throwing a hissy you can bet the sarcasm could be recognized miles away; Keef wouldn’t understand if you took an hour to explain it to him.
Bishop on August 26, 2009 at 8:21 PM
Olbermann, who stated after the Tiller murder that he’d never mention Fox news again (that blackout lasted about 4 days), argued that, paraphrasing, since “Fixed news isn’t really a news organization but a place for paranoids, tinfoil hat wearers and racists” that he’s got the most watched news show in his time slot on cable news.
See? Fox News doesn’t really count. Clever, eh?
Not convoluted as much as just typical smarminess.

I’m fascinated by the way the left now uses propaganda without caring whether or not it’s plainly, openly false. They just sling the s— out there and run with it. They don’t care how fake it is. Just voicing the memes and chewing on those over and over again is all that matters. It’s an interesting and creepy development.

They’ll take anything they can get. Unfortunately, the Leftists aren’t the only ones stuck on something out of context.
Was disappointed to see many on the right get upset over the new FEMA guidelines for seeing to the welfare of children during and after disasters. One part of the guidelines referred to the “federal family”. Many fellow conservatives went off about that on a couple of forums I read, implying that meant they would take the kids away and make them part of the “federal family.”
Obviously they were referring to the federal family of agencies.

The Left is accustomed to taking whatever words we say and deciding what they mean. Our intention when we speak them is irrelevant. Since they control meaning, they win the debates.
Cool gig if you can get it.
That’s why it’s so important to resist the urge to play their game with what they say. We joke about NYT and WaPo headlines that take a word or two out of context, but we can’t allow ourselves to do that stuff seriously. If we ever cave into the urge to dictate someone else’s meaning, the Left will use that against us when we complain about it.

Liberals are screaming their propoganda at the top of their lungs, but they can’t shut out/can’t out-smart We, The People!

There’s a dismissal of facts, a denial of evidence and a leg-tingling worship of a “fuhrer” that wasn’t widely accepted previously. Pelosi and Hoyer actually publishing an article calling US citizens “un-American” is just one example. The bats— crazy left is mainstream and powerful in a way it never has been before.

Folks up Redding way are kinda loopy sometimes, but one thing thats for certain is that Rep. Wally Herger is a classy and dedicated man of honor who has been kind to and respectful of the little people throughout his more-or-less anonymous career as a Congresscritter.
He’s has been around since the Code of Hammurabi was a draft document, but he will be easily re-elected until he no longer wants to run, at which time his hand-picked successor will succeed him.
