Dems’ new rallying cry: Let’s pass this trillion-dollar travesty for Teddy
posted at 3:20 pm on August 26, 2009 by Allahpundit
Makes sense. He was an archetypal tax-and-spend liberal and the living symbol of dynastic politics. What better way to mark the passing of a royal than to deplete the state treasury erecting a monument to his greatness?
Just as Limbaugh predicted, incidentally.
Jennifer Duffy, a senior editor at the Cook Political Report, said the news will strengthen Democrats’ resolve to get a bill passed. But it’s unclear whether they will work harder to get a bipartisan bill that can pass the Senate or decide to go it alone.
“Maybe, at least within the Senate, it takes on a more civilized and bit more somber tone,” Duffy said…
Now, it’s possible congressional negotiators could invoke his memory to convince some of those wavering senators.
“I’m sure this is going to come down to cloture votes,” said a health care source. “That is one place where his ghost, so to speak, in the chamber could have enormous impact.”…
[A] former Democratic Senate staffer turned health care lobbyist said Kennedy’s death could bring [Orrin] Hatch back to the Senate Finance Committee’s negotiating table that he recently left.
In theory it’ll be harder to pass ObamaCare without Kennedy since the filibuster-proof majority is momentarily gone, but either (a) the left will use that as moral cover to invoke reconciliation and pass it with 51 votes (“we wouldn’t have had to do it if Ted was still here!”) or (b) the very principled nonpartisans in Massachusetts state government will let Deval Patrick quickly appoint a successor, a power that was removed from the governor in 2004 — on Kennedy’s urging — so that Mitt Romney couldn’t appoint Kerry’s replacement if he won the presidency. In the meantime, the exploitation’s already begun: Madam Speaker was out of the chute at 2:30 a.m. this morning in politicizing Teddy’s death to serve the cause of ObamaCare, and no doubt we’re in for a humdinger of a commercial at the memorial service later this week. I wonder who’ll be tasked with the red-meat “do it for Teddy” eulogy? The One likes to stay above the fray in delicate situations so I’m guessing Kerry will do it; he’s always been politically tone-deaf so he should be an easy sell.
Exit question one: Will the media’s “do it for Teddy” narrative going forward touch on any of the inconvenient facts about Kennedy’s politics, like, say, that he opposed universal health care when Nixon pushed it or that he was rather a stickler about government regulation of medicine when it came to abortion? Exit question two: What’s the statute of limitations on “do it for X” appeals to public sentiment? I can think of a few programs — missile defense, social security privatization — that Reagan would have loved to see. How about a “block it for Ronnie” campaign against ObamaCare on the right?

Citizens of MA who want a special election so that they can elect Kennedy’s replacement should contact their State representatives and inform them of that fact and encourage them to hold the special election asap. They might also want to ask their representatives where they can get information on how to start a recall effort for State legislators (and Governors) who are unresponsive to the will of the people.

Yes, very bad legislation. Even if it were a decent bill, if it were to be run by the government, I would be against it 100%!

If this gets passed, all of us will be constantly reminded of the health care that Kennedy was fortunate to receive, because NONE of us will ever see the same level of care.

This is aimed at blue dogs and average Dems who are on the periphery of their Party. Also with some measure toward Independents/Moderates who lean Left (which is most of them).
This notion won’t influence the Right and Dems know it. Know they’re trying to use this passing of a man, one of their best, to win a victory from the jaws of defeat.
Funny–or not, really, they’re now using one of their icons as a tool after his passing. In life, Teddy was a leader among them and never would have accepted being a tool. Now that he’s no longer on Earth to defend himself, the Left makes him a tool, an end to justify their means.
If the Kennedys had any sense, they would see this and revile it.
I dislike Ted to no end; he was never like his older brothers. But the way the Left is trying things makes me hate the Left all the more above and beyond what I think of Ted.

I just posted the article about the UK system and how
that women are giving birth in toilets and elevators
http://veteranoutrage.com/?p=713
Here are the main talking points
Let me get this straight
•In russia a communist country they have the same problems
•In cuba a communist country they have even worse problems
•In canada their system is almost bankrupt and their citizens in order to save their lives are crossing the border into the USA for treament
•In the middle east they all fly all the way over to new york city for medical treatment
•In the UK its so bad women are giving birth in toilets.
•In the UK their system is so bankrupt that after surgery you cannot get pain medication
* In other communist countries they hope you die so they can harvest your organs for transplant.
And you FLIPPING IDIOTS
want to throw out your working health care system
for THIS?
are you JUST INSANE or JUST STUPID!

I dont care about what they name the bill after
I REFUSE to obey it..
Period end of story
The people said NO
the Seniors said NO
the citizens at town halls said NO
The only ones saying yes are
the unions (gee wonder who they vote for)
and the liberals all who have their own tax payer funded health insurance and are except from this plan..
NO we said NO
and I will NOT obey..
I wil cheat , I will lie on my taxes now.
Because you liberals got away with it.
you dont have to pay so why should i..
hell if i cheat on my taxes and disobey like all the traitors on the left ..
Hell i might get promoted to run the IRS.
I have a better chance of that happening than to expect anything the democrats pass into law of working correctly..

You’re kidding, right? If we can’t kill this liberty-crushing juggernaut for ourselves, when we’ve already got it hamstrung and gasping against the ropes, then we don’t deserve the name of “free people.”
We can’t spend our time in opposition bending knee to the last “Great Communicator,” no matter how monumental his achievments. That’s what separates us from the Left – we don’t look for the Man on the Horse to do our job for us, we roll up our shirtsleeves and do it ourselves.

Blacksmith:
To be honest, Obama might have killed it himself by spending so much on so many things, by ignoring the other party and instead entrusting the entire bill to the likes of Pelosi and Waxman.
But then again, Obama has a majority and if they are willing to fall on their swords en masse they can pass this abomination. They might figure they are on their way out anyway so they might as well do as much damage as possible.
I guess we will find out.
Terrye on August 26, 2009 at 6:10 PM
Long as that lasts, and I hope it does for sake of you and the People.
The problem is that those two station did self-censorship–a euphemism for when people and corporations are boycotted by those who don’t want to hear something.
Thankfully this issue will pass. The Left is ginning up to capitalize on a person’s death. Sick, really. To me it would be the same as nuking Russia when Reagan died because “Ronnie would have wanted it that way.”

Yeah, but those folks on the left are doing exactly what Kennedy himself would do if he could manage it.

MaiDee on August 26, 2009 at 6:24 PM
Yes, the MSM, which is run by liberals. There’s something seriously wrong with those people. I hate how they love when a conservative dies, and their top people almost gush with sexual desire over it. We, on the Right, tend to be more polite.
Not all on the Right, mind you. I read things earlier from Righties that were just rude. For me, I neither mourn Ted nor celebrate his passing, but I believe America is a little safer. Sadly, the MSM will promote and carry on his legacy. And this notion to name this medical bill after him is such a phony move. What shows its falsity is that Byrd wants it named after Teddy AFTER (translation: ‘if’) it’s passed. Can’t have a failed bill named after a liberal icon, after all.
Still, I think the Left’s idea of this is an obscenity to their man’s name. Which says more about the Left than anything the most hateful on the Right might say.

I actually think they should go the other way: oppose the healthcare bill, because Kennedy was in favor of it. (!)
Then, once the incredulity and righteous indignation sets in on all sides, with everyone & anyone from MSM whores to grandstanding pols howling at the cameras about those insensitive SOBs (how dare they!), rub it right back in their faces:
How is it any more correct or fair-minded to use Kennedy’s death as an argument *for* the bill than it is to use it against the bill? What inherent justification does Kennedy’s endorsement provide? And, given there is none, how *dare* they use Kennedy’s death to demagogue the bill this way? (And if they come back & say Kennedy was okay with them doing it, then point out that this makes what they’re doing even *worse*.)
Admittedly this “advice” is more appropriate to the Ann Coulters of the world than it is to a sitting Senator. :-)

The Democrats are making a big mistake if they try to implement their health care travesty using Ted Kennedy as a figurehead, considering his shameful behavior in regards to Chappaquiddick.
The counter-argument would be plain enough: “KennedyCare – a plan that will abandon you to die when you need help most.”

I wonder what type of health care Kennedy would have received, at age 77, under Obamacare? Did he have the privilege of getting “end of life counseling?” Did he have a board of government bureaucrats “review” his case to determine what type of treatment he should have? Maybe the government should offer all Americans the same type of care Kennedy received, then they could name it after him. Anything less would be hypocritical.

The Democrats will try ot make that case for Kennedy. They may be able to use it to keep the Democrat party together on the Health Insurance Reform (renamed by Pelosi) issue. If that can do it successfully they could pass it without any republican support. This is where tactics on the floor of the senate matter. I hope our republican senators are up to the task. We conservatives need to keep the pressure on our own representative of either pary to let them feel the heat.
kanda on August 27, 2009 at 2:13 PM
But it doesn’t help with the popularity of the bill, if anything it hurts its popularity. At the end of the day this does more to hurt them than to help them. It might even put more pressure on Blue Dogs not to vote for the bill.

As much as the left battles anything religious, the only way “Old Let her drown Ted” can appreciate naming this after him would mean that they believe he is in Heaven. So as it appears the only way to get the left to think about Heaven and God would be for them to keeping themselves dieing off. I guess that would be a win / win type scenario. Kennedy earned C grades at the private Milton Academy, but was admitted to Harvard as a “legacy” — his father and older brothers had attended there, so the younger and dimmer Kennedy’s admission was virtually assured. While attending, he was expelled twice, once for cheating on a test, and once for paying a classmate to cheat for him. While expelled, Kennedy enlisted in the Army, but mistakenly signed up for four years instead of two. His father, Joseph P. Kennedy, former U.S. Ambassador to England, pulled the necessary strings to have his enlistment shortened to two years, and to ensure that he served in Europe, not Korea, where a war was raging. Kennedy was assigned to Paris, never advanced beyond the rank of Private, and returned to Harvard upon being discharged.“

1. Switching the name from OBAMACare to KENNEDYCare just gets Obama’s name off the bill as we drive it off the bridge to its death.
2. Goggle “GQ Ted Kennedy Story” for a very good summary of “the boy” who never became a man.
3. Arlington!!!! Arlington revised the requirements for admission 25 years ago. It mandates that a “soldier” had to be active in a “combat zone”. Drunk as a National Guard in Paris doesn’t count. Besides, he didn’t even serve out his full term (Daddy got him out of it). JFK-decorated combat veteran who took a bullet as President, Bobby got the same while the front runner.
4. His grave will desecrate one of our holiest grounds.
5. He is the poster boy for the Democrats.
