Video: Glenn Beck goes after Obama czar … who founded group that’s boycotting him

posted at 7:34 pm on August 24, 2009 by Allahpundit

A short biographical sketch of revolutionary turned “green jobs czar” Van Jones that’s missing one tiny detail from his resume: He co-founded Color of Change, the lefty outfit that’s spearheading the much-publicized boycott of Beck that may or may not actually exist. It’s a little shady that Beck doesn’t disclose that here, although maybe he mentioned it at some other point in the show. Can anyone who watched from start to finish confirm or deny? Either way, consider this a vivid illustration of Karl’s theory that one of the reasons Obama’s gone czar-crazy is to bypass the Senate confirmation process. Imagine the field day the GOP would have with Jones’s past if he had to answer questions.

Exit question: Dude?

Update: Beck fans are saying in the comments that he didn’t mention Jones’s CoC background elsewhere on the show, but that the cause and effect here are reversed: In fact it’s Beck who’s been after Jones for some time and only recently did CoC launch its boycott, presumably as retaliation.

Blowback

Nice segment, but what’s up with the impressionistic piano music?! Geez, is John Tesh a Beck fan?

my guess is they knew this was coming and were hoping the boycott would preempt it… oh well

OK, I think I’m stepping out of this thread (It’s slowing down), but if someone comes back trying to claim Glenn Beck is a journalist of any sort, well, try to make a very thorough argument as to why he is – especially since he doesn’t consider himself a journalist.

Upstater85 on August 24, 2009 at 10:00 PM

From the article:

A coalition including the unsavory left-wing pressure group Color of Change and about 60 far-left, environmentalist, labor, and corporate shakedown groups participated in the call. Groups on the call included: ACORN, AFL-CIO, Apollo Alliance, Community Action Partnership, Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, 80 Million Strong for Young American Jobs, Friends of the Earth, Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, Mobilize.org, National Black Police Association, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, National Council of Negro Women, National Wildlife Federation, RainbowPUSH Coalition, Urban League, and Young Democrats of America.

Color of Change is the extremist racial grievance group that isn’t happy that TV’s Glenn Beck did several news packages on Van Jones, the self-described “communist” and “rowdy black nationalist” who became the president’s green jobs czar after jumping on the environmentalist bandwagon. The White House may be behind a push to destroy Beck by convincing advertisers to stop buying time on his show. Jones was also on the board of the Apollo Alliance, a hard-left environmentalist group that is now running large chunks of the Obama administration. The group has acknowledged that it dictated parts of the February stimulus bill to Congress.

With the help of the Obama administration, the coalition is launching a public relations campaign under the radar of the mainstream media — which remains almost uniformly terrified of criticizing the nation’s first black president — to try to change 9/11 from a day of reflection and remembrance to a day of activism, food banks, and community gardens.

Upstater85 on August 24, 2009 at 10:00 PM

What’s with this superficial, self-serving emphasis on whether he is a “journalist” or not? Who cares?

He’s an opinion guy. Does he need to cite every fact, etc? No? Does he need to disclose conflicts-of-interest? Yes.

All of you same people here would be having fits if the roles were reversed and we were talking about a NYT op-ed or a Maddow segment. Unfortunatly, I can’t think of a good hypothetical analogy because people on the right aren’t inclined to whine and boycott things, but you get my point. People (rightly) complain that Gore doesn’t disclose that he is profiting from carbon credits, but that’s not the same really because Beck’s segment is more of a targeted, personal segment.

Here’s another little detail I didn’t see mentioned in Glenn’s show today, although I think he has mentioned it in the past.
Van Jones was on the board of the Apollo Alliance whose New York director is Jeff Jones. Jeff Jones was co-founder of…the Weather Underground with that other buddy of Obama’s, William Ayers. And…Elizabeth Martinez, who advised Van Jones as Glenn mentioned, is on the board of the Movement for a Democratic Society with…Ayers and Dorhn.
Small world….just one big happy family of radicals.

Apparently, remembering 9-11 for what it was is too Republican. They must reshape it so that it empowers Democrats.

journeyintothewhirlwind on August 24, 2009 at 9:50 PM

That revisionism of the significance of 9/11 by Obama is appalling. What is even more disturbing is how the Axelrod Astroturfers infected the comment section with absolute idiocy and their “progressive” talking points. They even have the gall to refer to the day as a “holiday”!

Oh, and incidentally, crr6. Sargento, Clorox, and Walmart have ended up pulling their ads from all political shows. Others have joined them, as well.

So your already-struggling lefty shows will end up being harmed more than Beck or Fox. Congrats.

Beck’s commentary focused on the corruption of having a felon and self-declared “czar” in an unvetted position of power in this administration. Would this Van character pass FBI scrutiny? Would Obama himself?

Do only Back and Malkin have the investigative skills and courage to alert the public re these extra-constitutional thugs?

Mojave Mark on August 24, 2009 at 11:45 PM

I hope people understand that environmentalism is simply the latest incarnation of marxism. This black radical changed hats effortlessly. Environmentalism, especially as it relates to global warming hysteria, is about controlling energy. And as Marx proscribed, if one can control the means of production, one controls everything that follows it. Since energy is the means of production, the regulation of the common denominator of energy expenditure, CO2, is the regulation, consequently, of the means of production. Even runners, who go out for a jog, are expelling increased amounts of carbon dioxide when they exhale. That CO2 increase is the result of an increase in their energy expenditure. Control the CO2, and you control the energy. Control the energy, and you control the means of production.

This is the watermelon movement. It’s green on the outside, but red on the inside.

As an aside, you will note that the global warming CO2 message began as the Soviet Union closed up shop around 1990. Remember Francis Fukuyama’s seminal The End of History, written in the wake of communism’s apparent demise? Well, he spoke too soon, Francis did. Global warming was created as a replacement to stand in for the Soviet Union as capitalism’s nemesis. A brilliantly conceived replacement.

I had a nightmare that we turned into the Wiemar Republic two nights ago and I cannot shake it-is anyone else having bad dreams over what is happening in America? This is the second time in my life I have been this afraid, 9/11 being the first.

I am very afraid that someone will hurt Beck. I like, Beck & Palin, have a cherished family member who has special needs and I know why he gets all teared up over his daughter. I worry what will happen to her as well as my WWII vet uncle, who worked for the Federal Government all his life after serving and now has Alzheimer’s.

On a lighter note, how will we know who is who in DC on 9/12? Any special Hot Air meet-up location?

margategop517 on August 24, 2009 at 9:14 PM

Yes, I’ve been having dreams too. The first one was last Sept. 15 08. Tiny catlike woman with blazing blue eyes sat on my chest while I was sleeping. She said, “Are you ready for your life to change?” Got up and walked out of my bedroom. She had 3 or 4 guardians, men in black. I went outside to see how they got in and was picked up in a black suv and taken to some kind of factory where a doctor assured me everything would be ok. He injected me with something directly into my left facial sinus. It hurt so bad it woke me up and I could still feel it. I’ve had a few others since then. They’re different than regular dreams, being extremely vivid and the “taste” of them lingers for weeks. Last one I had was just last week – where there was a disturbance in the sky and a hole opened up. Weird huh.

I think it just shows how anxious we’re feeling – dreams are just things that on your mind, coming up to the surface as warnings. Better face what you’re worried about, head on, and make arrangements should they come to pass. And, don’t let these worries detract from what you have right now, this moment. Enjoy your life and all that’s in it. Take care.

Someone recently exhumed the body of late Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Also, last night, flashing bursts of light were seen coming from the windows of the Gothic castle on the hilltop in the countryside.

Shy Guy on August 25, 2009 at 12:40 AM

Absolutely hilarious. All the left has is criticizing Beck on a technicality about the boycott.

-You are basically admitting that Van Jones got his lackeys to intimidate Beck.

-You ignore the fact that Beck exposed him months ago and would still be doing it with or without the boycott.

-Also ignored is the fact that Van Jones has taken no credit for the boycott, so Beck would be blaming him without any hard proof.

-You ignore the fact that a convicted criminal who openly promoted militant communism is now working directly for the president. Let’s not talk about that, let’s nitpick a reason to blame the messenger.

He anchors a news shos on a news organization. So yes I would call him a reporter.

terryannonline on August 24, 2009 at 8:09 PM

sigh. Glenn makes this excessively clear every.single.day on both his radio show AND the Fox show. He is NOT a reporter, nor is it a “news show”. It is an opinion show. His opinions are formed with a great deal of research and study. He is expressing his opinion. He actually launched into solidifying this fact on today’s show, near the beginning.

AaronGuzman on August 25, 2009 at 1:56 AM

Yes, Color of Crap specifically said the following:

To President/CEO & Board:

I want to alert you to the fact that Glenn Beck–whose show you sponsor on FOX–is using his platform to make outlandish accusations about the President and to advance baseless theories that prey on race-based fears.

He is claiming that President Obama is a “racist,” that he has a “deep-seated hatred for white people,” and that he is attempting to use our government to deliver “Obama-brand reparations.” The claims are ludicrous, and the rhetoric is racially divisive and pollutes our public discourse.

I presume your company does not want to enable such rhetoric, nor have your products or services associated with the kind of views and tactics espoused by Beck. I urge you to immediately cease all advertising on the Glenn Beck Program on the FOX News Channel.

Color of Crap is the current black version of La Raza. It is a blatantly racist organization that supports black people because they are black. We all know the type, those that argue loudly and stubbornly to defend someone just because of the color of their skin. Go to colorofchange.org to see what/whom they support.

I’ve said it a million friggin times, but I’ll say it again: I disagree with Barack Obama because he is 100% liberal, not because he is 50% black.

In fact it’s Beck who’s been after Jones for some time and only recently did CoC launch its boycott, presumably as retaliation.

Just read through most of the comments and can’t believe what a bunch of crybabies there are! You can’t dismiss the facts of what Glenn Beck said about Van Jones, so you whine about the distiction of “journalist” vs. “opinionist” programming? Please.

Also- to criticize him for not speaking to the boycott shows your inclination to willfully not look at the whole picture. Not withstanding the legalities of speaking of it, it would just give publicity to a disgusting, communist group of thugs.

After hearing this, another old saying comes to mind:”If it looks like it, smells like it, then obviously that is what it must be.”
Looking at the track record, looks like we have a new color to look at. We have white, black, green, and now RED!!!
Rest assured, i’m not basing this on color. Another old saying; “Some people can’t see the forrest for the trees.”
For those that want to live on your knees, be oppressed, be subjugated, thank God you are in America, so you can do that. Thank goodness, as this czar refers to himself, you have an African’t, running things for you.
For me, i don;t think i’ll bow down today or tomorrow or any time soon, unless it is God almighty. Obama ain’t my god and neither are any of his cronies. I only hope people wake up in time to see the slave chains they are putting on.

Orion Prime on August 25, 2009 at 10:19 AM

How can this be ‘retaliation’ by Beck on Jones/CoC? As I remember it, CoC started the boycott talk when Beck got too close to the groups that CoC shills for.

Beck may not be the ‘perfect’ messenger, but the questions he raises are damned important ones. Besides, if he’s totally wrong, why is he being attacked? Why are his ratings atmospheric? Were he a TRUE nutjob, he’d have Olbermann’s ratings.

Just sayin’

Obama was mentored as a young boy by Frank Marshall, an avowed communist. He later affiliated himself with Bill Ayers, an avowed communist. He only true work experience was as a community organizer … following the rules set down by Saul Alinsky, an avowed communist. He has consorted with communists his entire life and now he appoints them into his administration.

Barack Obama is a communist and so is the majority of the democrat party. They’ve spent decades putting their people in place in education, the media and politics and we are now seeing their offensive on the United States.

We really need to call them what they are … communists.

You have to realize that people like terryannonline think Keith Oberloon and Rachel M are journalists who have news shows. So it shouldn’t suprise you when he/she isn’t able to recognize a show as an opinion program.

katiejane on August 25, 2009 at 11:04 AM

Gee, I think when commentary becomes all about personality fights, that’s a good sign that someone is out of real material.

AnninCA on August 25, 2009 at 11:03 AM

So you don’t believe Obama has placed communists within his administration? People who have vowed to destroy the United States?

darwin on August 25, 2009 at 11:05 AM

To Allahpundit:
Here is a bill trying to correct the Czar problem:

H.R.3226 – Czar Accountability and Reform (CZAR) Act of 2009

A Hotair piece on that Bill would be appropriate.

Conservatarian on August 25, 2009 at 11:05 AM

Wow! You mean this “czar” FOUNDED rational-thinking Americans who see Beck for what he is — a racist who is using his show to foment violence against the government — and therefore want no part in financing his hate spew?

bschmalfeldt on August 25, 2009 at 9:47 AM

Ooooh, yeah! Beck is the racist and the fomenter of violence — the guy who repeatedly encourages his audience to behave with courtesy when stating their policy disagreements at townhalls or protests, and who expressly disavows the use of violence, frequently reminding his audience “that’s not what we’re about.”

It’s not Beck who spent 20+ years worshipping at the feet of a blatantly racist, anti-American, anti-Semite nutjob who routinely spews idiotic conspiracy theories about whites in government (e.g., they deliberately infected blacks with HIV). It’s not Beck who told his followers to go out and “get in the faces” of anybody who disagrees with them.

You don’t see Beck for what he is. You’re projecting. The real racists and hate-mongers and violent nutjobs are disproportionately on your side.

AZCoyote on August 25, 2009 at 11:06 AM

I grew up with arrogant, Ivy League communists like Jones. You’d be surprised how many there are. But this guy is a kind of caricature, in that he shamelessly recalls their more overtly revolutionary roots. I’ve also seen how these vermin have segued into the “establishment.” This is really the fulfillment of everything you could see a year ago if you looked closely at Obama. On one hand, it’s simply incredible that such people are in the White House, on the other totally inevitable and predictable. The question is: what do we do about it?

rrpjr on August 25, 2009 at 11:08 AM

rrpjr on August 25, 2009 at 11:08 AM

Keep watching Beck Shine the light in.
I think they’re capable of showing the world just exactly what they are. Look at Obama’s approval ratings.
Americans are not stupid and we are also, by NO means, a leftist country.
I hope the dems keep pushing. Keep at it with their radical agenda. More and more people are waking up to the truths.

bridgetown on August 25, 2009 at 11:11 AM

The only thing more annoying then Van Jones, is the music, just couldn’t get through it…Beck needs some help in editing this stuff.

AnninCA on August 25, 2009 at 11:03 AM

So now you pick out what was in error….good try on trying to change the subject, but even over the annoying piano, it is apparent that Jones is a radical…obviously you think being a communist is a personality trait.

Seek help.
there is something wrong with your ability to reason objectively..

Just trying to help.

Itchee Dryback on August 25, 2009 at 11:20 AM

Ironically Beck just said it was better to turn the other cheek on his rdio show. Beck has definitely been after Van Jones for several weeks and it predates the boycott by Color of Change. this is shaping up to be a battle royal. This one website makes absolutely NO mention of the fact that Van Jones is a card carrying, long time communist.

I think this is a case of a communist not liking it when someone says publically “So. You are a communist.”

Hammer the hell out of him, Beck. Roll every damned one of these jerks.

BrideOfRove on August 25, 2009 at 11:28 AM

May I add that Beck has never addressed the boycott specifically on either tv or radio. He prefaces every hour with a warning that “they” will try to shut him down and that there is no up-side if he is right and if he’s wrong he’s discredited and out of a job. He never addresses attacks by Mark Levin directly either. Indirectly he’s all the hell over all attacks and it’s a thing of beauty to watch in action. This is his MO. A real treat for those of us who enjoy watching subtle warfare and reading between the lines.

BrideOfRove on August 25, 2009 at 11:33 AM

Turn him on right now. He’s talking about the attacks.

BrideOfRove on August 25, 2009 at 11:35 AM

Ok wait …. now he’s talking about sex. Disregard.

BrideOfRove on August 25, 2009 at 11:37 AM

I don’t understand why someone would consider it a “shady” omission to not mention that CoC was behind the boycott. Unless of course the information Beck was presenting was false and just a ploy to smear that organization/person. I’ve yet to hear proof that what Beck said regarding Jones was false.

katiejane on August 25, 2009 at 11:44 AM

Swell Glenn. You’re still the same racist clown who propagates fear and lunacy via Fox News. Our company has completely pulled all advertising per the thousands of customer requests. Van Jones has never contacted our marketing or sales department regarding this issue.

Good4Onan on August 25, 2009 at 11:54 AM

Glenn this country NEEDS you partner………don’t let them run you off..

Cinday Blackburn on August 25, 2009 at 11:58 AM

Beck has been talking about Jones and all of the czars for a long time. And yes he has told all about his color of change group. It is just a small part of his groups. What you should be worried about is NOT Becks transparancy but the president who is placing these people in positions with millions of our tax dollars at their disposal, and the RADICAL COMMUNIST VIEWS THEY HOLD!

That is what Glen is trying to get all of the asleep at the wheel Americans to see! He is going around senate and congressional approval and funding for these people. He has not appointed the people that he SHOULD BE to these positions because he would have to have senate approval and he knows THESE radicals would not even get past the first round. They are not even going through the FBI background checks for government officials.

This man is a convicted FELON, he is a black liberation radical, and a self described COMMUNIST. This is just the tip of the iceburg, and Glen will be exposing more of them this week.

Anyone who does not start BOMBARDING

patriotparty1 on August 25, 2009 at 11:59 AM

I hit the button before I was finished.
Anyone who does not start BOMBARDING their senators and congressmen with DEMANDS for investigations into these people, and why they are there IS nuts.
How are they being paid? Did congress approve their salaries, or the salaries of their massive departments? Our elected officials have got to get off their duffs and into action now!
They should tell Obama there will be NO VOTES ON ANYTHING, health care, cap and tax, or a post office, NOTHING until these people are properly vetted by the senate, and thrown out of our government. Obama is trying to make the senate and congress expendable. Soon he will just go around them to his czars for anything he wants done.

You realize this sounds like complete BS when you don’t provide the name of the company for verification, right? Make shit up all you want but just know that no one is buying it.

BrideOfRove on August 25, 2009 at 12:13 PM

No one is going to silence Glen Beck. The more they try the more publicity he will get.

Here is the thing about Obama. He wants to radically change the relationship between government and it’s citizens. He doesn’t believe in American exceptionalism, he runs around apologizing. He thinks the founding fathers were fundamentally flawed in their thinking for not outlining what the government should be required to do.

You know what? I think he hates what this country stands for and I think his hatred is racially motivated.

I think Obama is a racist. Kudos to Beck for having the courage to publicly make such a statement.

Anyone want to try and silence me too?

jhffmn on August 25, 2009 at 12:26 PM

This Van Jones guy is a racist communist danger. Beck asked the question fully knowing the answer. Barrack appointed him, Holden and his other whack jobs because of their background. He doesn’t see them as whack jobs but as visionaries. Ayers and Wright would be right up there too if we didn’t learn about them before the election.

The most revealing thing about these radicals is that they have no integrity. They should shout their agenda and affiliations from the rooptops. They know, however that their agenda is ultra radical and only preach taylored messages for different audiences.

We have to defend our liberty America. I’m not going to miss any more local protests.
