AmSpec: Why did Democrats choose 9/11 as the national day of service?
posted at 9:27 pm on August 24, 2009 by Allahpundit
The story burns hot with outrageously outrageous outrage, but I can’t lie. I’m not feeling it.
This effort to reshape the American psyche has nothing to do with healing the nation and everything to do with easing the nation along in the ongoing radical transformation of America that President Obama promised during last year’s election campaign. The president signed into law a measure in April that designated Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service, but it’s not likely many lawmakers thought this meant that day was going to be turned into a celebration of ethanol, carbon emission controls, and radical community organizing.
On the Aug. 11 call, Yearwood and other leaders kept saying repeatedly that they wanted 9/11 to be used for something “positive,” “forward-leaning,” and “productive,” said a source with knowledge of the teleconference.
The plan is to turn a “day of fear” that helps Republicans into a day of activism called the National Day of Service that helps the left. In other words, nihilistic liberals are planning to drain 9/11 of all meaning.
“They think it needs to be taken back from the right,” said the source. “They’re taking that day and they’re breaking it because it gives Republicans an advantage. To them, that day is a fearful day.”…
They view Sept. 11 as a “Republican” day because it focuses the public on supposedly “Republican” issues like patriotism, national security, and terrorism.
The boss is right about how this dovetails with Obama’s own insulting, sophomoric reading of 9/11 as being fundamentally about a dearth of empathy, an understanding so facile that it would be cringed at in a dorm-room circle. (Is there any act of cruelty, in any context, about which the same couldn’t be said?) And to the extent AmSpec’s saying that, for many progressives, the big lesson about the attack going forward will be to smile on your brother, get together and try to love one another right now, well, fair enough. But it ain’t the day of service that’s inculcating that outlook; that’s just kind of … how they are. All this does is give them an outlet for it.
What it sounds like, though, is that AmSpec’s claiming this is some sort of nefarious plot to brainwash the country into forgetting what happened that day — i.e. to “reshape the American psyche.” Er, really? Leftist phone banks about gun control are going to dim the memory of jihadists steering jumbo jets into the World Trade Center? That’s kind of like saying that if the left declared December 7 to be Drum Circle Day henceforth, the memory of Pearl Harbor would fade beneath the din of the sweet, soulful tapping on those bongos. Frankly, if there are any political repercussions from this at all (which I doubt), I’d imagine they’d redound to the advantage of hawks. Passing a crowd of college kids chanting about ethanol when you’re busy thinking about people jumping out of skyscrapers isn’t likely to convince you of the merits of ethanol, but it may convince you that those kids are callous douches who don’t have their priorities in order. What am I missing here?

We can only hope they’ll have cool uniforms and awesome parades at the very least.

One difference between Pearl Harbor and 9/11: The media still shows the bodies of sailor, Marines and soldiers killed at Pearl Harbor. The media does its best not to show the bodies of the 9/11 fallen, including those in mid fall.

(Climbing on my soapbox)
Well-as all can see I am a woman. Women work very hard to provide for herself, her husband, children and many times women take care of the elder-and even people she’s not supposed to take care of in the first place!
Women serve by nature. Women were raised with morals, values, professionalism and of all things, nurturing skills; keep her family together by being its head, SERVE her children breakfast, lunch and dinner, same goes for husband and the mutual extra y’all know ;D
Women serve by cleaning the house, washing clothes, doing the dishes, landscape, harvest the earth, and also serve by providing education to her family, as in manners/holy beliefs/and hygiene. Many others take over decoration, painting, light car mechanics and holler at those pesky contractors that don’t do what she wants.
And I have not touched the professional field yet; where women reach potentials by “serving” their corporation, and become successful PLUS doing all the other things that I mentioned! Some of my friends have done it all, with a kid or two and without a man to help out in anything.
Therefore, I DEMAND that on September 11th, after I meditate, reflect on the disaster that changed our country, watch videos on YouTube–those people, that feel like serving, right? Because they are under strict orders of their Dear Leader who told ‘em to serve the whole day, right?
Well I wanna borrow a bunch of those that feel like serving that day!
Here’s my request:
0 for my husband, since I will take care of him myself.
3 to clean my whole house from top to bottom;
2 to mow lawn front and back and fix up landscaping; after they’re done with that, reorganize the attic! :]
2 to watch my kids, cook for them all day pick up after them, and read them stories. Maybe play Wii with them if my kids want to; of course prepare fine dinner!
3 to treat me with a spa, manicure, pedicure, facial and back massage;
1 to walk my dog, groom my pets, and feed them. Make sure that my pets and children stay away from vermin.
Here’s what *vermin* means= ver⋅min /ˈvɜrmɪn/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [vur-min]
Show IPA
Use vermin in a Sentence
–noun, plural ver⋅min. 1. noxious, objectionable, or disgusting animals collectively, esp. those of small size that appear commonly and are difficult to control, as flies, lice, bedbugs, cockroaches, mice, and rats.
2. an objectionable or obnoxious person, or such persons collectively.
3. animals that prey upon game, as coyotes or weasels.
Oh and next time Prez decides to make people serve-people that are overworked, understaffed, underpaid and overmedicated, Prez should serve this country by placing his royal behind on the WH for a week, nonstop!

Simple Simon is not an atheist – he’s an Obama worshiper and will react like any good zealot if anyone dares to name/imply another God.

Perhaps we should all buy the American flags that attach to our car windows and fly over our car roofs – ya know, just to let them know how the majority feels about 9/11. And I’m performing my day of service, on 9/12, in Washington DC, proudly marching wearing a tea party t-shirt.

Wanna go HALLMARK? Hey I like that store. Wanna spend the whole day with me, reading to me every Hallmark card on the aisles and carry every junk I grab? You will help me by serving me as to being a “gentleman”/snort and carry merchandise for me? Perhaps because I am sooo sentimental and respect our troops who are shedding blood, tears and are sacrificing for your right to try and trash us perhaps, I may direct you also to the aisle of “I Miss You” and you will serve me how? You will read every card TWICE in that section too.
Perhaps that will move an iota of that rusty cyborg organ you call a heart. I have no interest other than serving God, then my family.

Americans may decide that this was a good day after all as GOD has relieved this Nation of one dishonest swimmer.
RIP Mary Jo We might ask that justice and the missing files on all the payoffs show up. 911 is what it is also and no BS from ommmah will change that.
“After a party for women who had worked on his brother Robert’s presidential campaign, Kennedy drove his car off a bridge on Chappaquiddick, off Cape Cod and across a narrow channel from Martha’s Vineyard. While Kennedy managed to escape, his passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, drowned.
In a coroner’s inquest, he denied having been drunk, and said he made “seven or eight” attempts to save Kopechne before exhaustion forced him to shore. Although he sought help from friends at the party, Kennedy did not report the accident to police until the following morning.
Kennedy eventually pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident. In a televised address to residents of his home state, Kennedy called his conduct in the hours following the accident “inexplicable” and called his failure to report the wreck immediately “indefensible.”

Let’s not get too excited, I suspect that 9/11 has been an unofficial holiday in certain mid-east nations for years now.

Glenn Beck already went THERMONUCLEAR on his radio show. Hehe, today with El Rushbo must beat all records evah/matching or more than CPAC-or the debate between Palin vs. Biden.
If he mentions this tidbit (I expect so) 7/12 will be way bigger than expected.
Sarah, oh please write on Facebook about this. I’ll be waiting.

Nothing
Redefinition is the name of the game. Underlined by Marx. Perfected by Stalin.
Items must be removed (cleansed, purged) methodically as they have removed religious expression from the public square in a nation guaranteeing religious expression. When the army tells a military chaplain to expunge ‘in the name of Jesus’ from Christian prayers, we can measure the acceptance of newthink by the mixed public reaction.
They are tireless and the cleansing will not end unless folk demand an end. I believe the Tea Parties inspired the Townhalls. This is the first sign of a movement against the purges. That is why alter Townhalls are being created by the Newspeakers. This is why the old Townhall protesters must be repainted as stooges.
I still believe there are enough freedon lovers left to end the purge. It will take a mighty battle however on all fronts because the enemy has nothing else to do but chip away at soft spots

The title, AP, is a stupid question. What other reason could there be? To appropriate the suffering of others to their own political ends, we’re talking about leftists here. When do they not wave “victims” in front of you demanding you do whatever they always wanted to do without regard to whether the two are connected?

The following is a response I suggest we send to Obama and every other politician who wants to pervert the memory of September 11 from a day of morning and remembrance to a day of political theatre:
Dear Mr. Obama: It has come to my attention that in April of this year you signed a bill designating September 11 as a “National Day of Service”. I’ve been mulling it over for a while, and I have come to the following conclusion: No, Mr. President.
I know you are not used to hearing those words, so I’ll repeat them. No, Mr. President.
No to a day of service, mandatory or not. For me, September 11 is and will remain a day of anger and mourning and patriotism. America was attacked on that day, not the other way around. Our people were murdered on that day, they were not the murderers.
So, no, Mr. Obama. I will not serve in the capacity you want me to serve on September 11. I will serve the citizens of my country who died that day in fire and collapsing buildings and airplanes used as bombs. And to that end, I will spend September 11 reliving the day by watching the horrifying videos, and by crying as the names of my people who were killed eight years ago are read out, thereby stoking the anger I still feel…and to harden my heart for the battles still ahead. I will never forget, I will never forgive…and I will never turn that day of all days into something it is not.
So when September 11 rolls back around, tell the First Lady to put on those fine tennis shoes and make her way back down to that homeless shelter. As for me, I’ll be firmly planted in front of my television set with tears in my eyes. I’ll be mourning, and I’ll be angry, and if I can get the vision of the “day of service” out of my mind long enough, I will be swelled with patriotism and pride in this wonderful country.
You make a mockery of all the people that died and served that day Mr. President. Your attempt to make this day a “National Day of Service” is unconscionable and disgraceful. It shows me that you have no regard for the memory of the people who died nor for the people who live in this great country.
Once again: No, Mr. President!
