Video: Marine goes nuclear on Democrat over ObamaCare

posted at 4:48 pm on August 22, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via, er, HotAirPundit, red meat courtesy of the good folks who hijacked our last thread. The Democrat in question is Brian “Brown Shirts” Baird, thus the pounding he takes here is extra gratifying. Not sure I follow the Marine’s point about what right the feds have to tell him he can keep his insurance plan, though. Presumably he’s making a Commerce Clause argument a la Rivkin and Casey, but if growing weed on your own farm for your own use constitutes “quintessentially” economic activity, wouldn’t a program that affects 15 percent of the entire U.S. economy also qualify? If the public wants single-payer, hey — that’s democracy, red in tooth and claw.

Of course the stuff was like 300 dollars a month(which we couldn’t afford.)

Ever heard of getting an extra part-time job? If you and your husband worked an extra 10 hours a week each, you could afford it no problem. You also have the option of contacting the maker of this drink to see if they have discounts available for those who can’t afford it.

Same thing, they refused to pay for her to see a nutritionist.

Does the policy say they will cover nutritionists? If not, why are you demanding they cover something they never promised to cover? And how much can a trip to a nutritionist cost anyway? I assure you, they will take cash/credit card.

At any rate, if you’re so unhappy with your insurance, get rid of it. Why pay for something if it isn’t going to cover anything? What would be the point?

xblade on August 23, 2009 at 6:21 AM

I pay around 6000 a year for insurance even though I’m in good health I STILL have exclusions for problems that are infrequent yet leave me exposed to large bills.

It’s ridiculous.

The pre existing condition system stinks and needs to be reformed.

rickyricardo

Yeah, you’d just love that, wouldn’t you? Then you could dump the insurance completely until AFTER you get sick. What a bargain!

And why the heck are so many people paying so much for insurance anyway? I mean, $6,000 a year? It took me 5 minutes to find a policy that gives me $7 million dollars worth of coverage for $160/month. If anyone is paying $6,000 plus per year for an individual policy, it’s because they’re too lazy to do a little research.

xblade on August 23, 2009 at 6:30 AM

Xblade,

I pay about 6000 a year for 3 of us. And believe me I shopped around a lot. Also the rates vary quite a bit stste by state, up to a 20% variance for the same policy between low and high cost states.

angryed on August 23, 2009 at 8:00 AM

The most significant thing in this video was the knee-jerk lie by the politician – boldly, in public – debunked in picoseconds.

Politicians are going to have to realize, either the easy way, or the hard way if necessary, that they (a) should not lie (b) cannot lie successfully.

Foolish arrogance to think you can lie so boldly and get a pass.

Flush these lying scum in 2010.

shaken on August 23, 2009 at 8:02 AM

Oddly enough, it is those who believe that there is no right to be taken care of who do the most to take care of others voluntarily. Those who want to make a right out of it always want it to be someone else’s responsibility, and never their own.

JohnJ on August 22, 2009 at 8:22 PM

Amen to that.

Regimen is superior to medicine.

The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease. Whatever medicine was once, it has grown and evolved into a monstrous beast bent on amusing itself at out expense. Our payment is not merely in taxes. We pay in flesh, bone and blood to be abused by the worst.

The fact is, you DO NOT GET TO KEEP YOUR INSURANCE. READ THE BILL.

The moment your coverage CHANGES, YOU LOSE IT. The minute the price CHANGES YOU LOSE IT.

Then you’re on the obamunistcare plan.

Then you get your obamunistcare plan ID.

Then the obamunistcare plan administrators get access to your bank accounts, financial history and your medical history.

The obamunistcare administrators and regulators take care of you.

You become a serf along with everybody else in a new political system with the socialists who know what best for you in positions of power, the new political aristocracy.

That is their plan.

dogsoldier on August 23, 2009 at 8:25 AM

This man was right on. It would seem to me that health insurance would be cheaper if the government stopped regulating the heck out of it. Also, tort reform would really be a big help. If they gave the insurance companies the go ahead to insure in all states I believe rates would go down.

If the public wants single-payer, hey — that’s democracy, red in tooth and claw. AP

Liberty is not negotiable, not even by the majority.
It can only be stolen in whole or piecemeal. Even if something of supposed value is offered in return, it cannot have the same value as that liberty taken from us. That marine knows it and his words speak from the pain of that knowing and the resolve to stand against it. God bless and keep safe all who stand against this theft.

SKYFOX on August 23, 2009 at 8:41 AM

What this goobermint needs to do is to force the insurance companies to end this pre-existing condition nonsense that is killing self employed individuals and small businesses.

These insurance companies need a swift kick in the arse.

rickyricardo on August 22, 2009 at 5:12 PM

If you go to get auto insurance, as is required in most, if not all, states, with 5 charged accidents and two dozen speeding tickets do you expect the insurance company will charge you the same as if you have a spotless driving record? Why is health insurance any different?

If you are on your death bed do you thing a life insurance company will write you a policy as if you are an 18 year old in perfect health?

If you have some serious, expensive to treat pre-existing condition why should the health insurance people not be able to charge more for your coverage, you are a greater risk than someone with no problems.

johnsteele on August 23, 2009 at 8:51 AM

After reading the bulk of the comments in this thread that questions the intellectual and leadership skills of a President that is attempting to move this nation in the direction of a more centralized government dependency, the next rational question would be, who are the “other players” in this great social experiment? If Obama’s pale of rhetoric is so full of holes, why and how is he still driving this plan that is being rejected by a strong majority of the general public? When the lights are turned on in the proverbial room of systematic strategist, who are the rats that are scurrying to the dark corners undetected, yet still driving this agenda down the throats of an unwilling citizenry? How many more unchecked and unregulated Czars will it take for this statist President to complete his Politburo?

President Obama, YOU WON!, you are the President of these UNITED states—now try to act like one. It was not the intentions of our founding fathers to allow the institution of the OFFICE to be run by a committee of Czars and mandated sycophants. STOP bastardizing and demoralizing this OFFICE and try something truly novel and original, (and in your case, unprecedented), like listening to the American patriots that elected you. WE are not “un-American Nazi’s” or astro-turfers storming your townhalls across the fruited plains pleading that you drop this insane ideology of government run healthcare under the guise of covering “42 million” souls. And WE are not the one’s who are spreading lies, fabrications, and misunderstandings about this blatant attempt to socialize our healthcare. This nation CAN NOT afford this plan fiscally or morally, and WE reject your pathetic attempt to inject GOD into this equation as if you had one moral bone in your body. How dare you condone the slaughter of millions of unborn souls, and yet have the audacity to pronounce moral obligations. Throw away your community organizing skills, your Czars, your committees and try something different—like being a President of these UNITED STATES.

simplesimon on August 22, 2009 at 6:02 PM

Let me set you straight, simplesimon. Very apropos nick BTW, since that was a very simple and uniformed comment.

Apparently you didn’t listen to the video carefully – he was a former Marine, meaning he wasn’t currently enlisted or commissioned. So he’s not entitled to “free room and board and medical care”, except for medical care he can wrestle from the VA for conditions he received on active duty. Now, if he were retired from the military, he and his family would be entitled to continue their military medical program, but they must pay (low) premiums for the privilege, and are far down the list in priority. If he were not retired, if he separated from service prior to 20 years, he’s not entitled to that benefit at all, and must find insurance just like everyone else.

I also gather from the tone of your argument whine that you think that he shouldn’t have anything to say in the matter, since he already got his. As it may be plain from my explanation above – free room, board, and medical care is a condition of employment, and is no longer effective after that employment terminates. Military health care IS employer-provided health insurance and good only for the term of employment.

Health insurance is different for two reasons; litigation, and government regulations. Health insurers are forbidden to do this because it would “discriminate”. And while scumbag attorneys do there part to drive up costs requesting outrageous judgments, the problem in court rooms continue to be juries of people too stupid to think about the source of the millions they so freely award.

It frightens me to think that there exists in this country a majority that actually ARE too stupid to govern themselves.

To all of you people complaining about pre-existing conditions:

Unless a plan excludes pre-existing conditions, it isn’t insurance. Insurance plans insure against the risk that something might happen. If you already have an illness, there’s no risk you might get that illness. It’s already a certainty.

If you’re asking for your health plan to pay for a condition you already have, what you’re really asking for is charity or welfare. Providing you with charity or welfare is not a business model.

If you have money and don’t need charity, please stop asking for it. If you do need it, please ask for it directly. Stop trying to get it from insurance companies. Stop trying to get it by hiring government goons to force us all to pay for you. We’re a charitable country. Why not trust in our goodness enough to be honest?

Kohath on August 23, 2009 at 10:44 AM

This is slightly off-topic, but does anyone know how to find out when (or if, as the case may be) their particular Congressman is holding a Town Hall meeting? I have been trying for weeks to find out if there would be one locally, so I can express my concerns to my Congressman, but have not been able to learn if there will be one, or where/when it would be.

I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that martial law may be attempted in some areas of the country to squelch dissent. And, that may be a catalyst for real change…in the revolutionary variety.

The problem with pre-existing conditions under our current system is that if you change jobs, or your company goes out of business or you get laid off, you lose your existing insurance, once COBRA runs out. Then, if you have an existing, continuing, illness, you can’t get it covered under your new policy (although in our state, so long as you don’t have a gap in coverage, your pre-existing condition is covered, but I understand it’s not that way everywhere). I don’t believe insurance should be tied to employment, but so long as it is, they do need to do something about pre-existing conditions. It should be that you buy a policy, and as long as you pay your premiums, you are covered for whatever comes up that is covered under your policy until you choose to change policies or drop your coverage. It’s not that way now.

Dark-Star on August 23, 2009 at 2:02 PM

Ever since Obama told his goon thugs to “get in their faces”, there has been an avalanche of thuggery to regular, normal people that do not like the way their government going about its business. I personally find this shocking and it makes me madder than hell. I think many others are feeling the same way. Several of these folks have pushed back and said that they were not going to take it anymore and had notified the local authorities.
I don’t think for one moment that this Marine is going to take any of the petty thuggery that the unions have put out for all to see. I saw that even Kevin Gladney was back out selling his “Don’t tread on me” flags yesterday at yet another Claire McCaskill town hall. The implied or blatenent threats are not being heeded and the thugs will have to escalate their message. I don’t think Obama is willing to do that. He fired the first “shot” and we all know he did it. To make it worse he did it to his own citizens. For me that was the tipping point.

May we always feel as one…!

Unless you must continue to feel apart…?

As the sun rises in the morning…it greets us all.

This must have been the first class care that Bill Kristol and Jon Stewart were talking bout just the other day.

Notice the derision a Heroic Marine receives from the left if dares challenge them. But how dare Rush call out a truly fake solder. You simplistic lefties make me sick . Yes I question your patriotism.

If that Marine new anything about political systems, he should know that just because the Nazis called themselves The National Socialist Party, doesn’t mean they were leftist or socialist. The meaning of left socialism is world inclusive not country specific. The term National Socialism is an oxymoron. The rest of his rant contained the same confusions.

***
The U.S. Marines–the few–the brave–the proud–came through bigtime again. Prepared with the facts–did the PANDAS (Mexican slang for giving them hell) on the Dimocrat.
***
The politician missed his chance to thank the Marine for his service and sacrifice to our country–but he is really “supporting the troops” (not!). The thought to do so never crossed his “mind”.
***
The best part was seeing the Marine walk back to his wife and small child. All the real conservatives should have stood up, cheered the Marine, and followed him out the door.
***
As an ex U.S. Army draftee (SPEC-4) who knows and worked with a lot of great Marines–MARINES ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD!

Seeing you are a master at research and I am too lazy, could you share where you found this deal? Your turn.. or are you just another master-baiter?

Why does this dolt have to tell the congressman what his job is. Marine, gas station attendant or actuary – it’s a JOB. Only a needy loser has to tell people what they do for a living to get respect and thanks.

Bill Blizzard on August 23, 2009 at 6:05 PM

Let’s Review.
Nazi’s began with the National Socialist Party or workers
party (unions).Believed that government should control all aspects of life. Took over banks, auto, and health care industries. Deemed that someone like Trig Palin did not deserve life. Practiced eugenics (death panels). Took over the churches and demands that all church tithing be given to them. Then when the leftist had brought Hitler to power, Hitler took his monster policies to the extreme and had all the lefties to thank for putting him there. Nice try Bill
perhaps that blizzard is blowing up your nose too often.

Ha. Uh, no. That’s funny though. The guy is surly and uninformed. His government job is pretty irrelevant to the discussion.

No, the needy little man’s first words were to ‘humbly’ tell people about his government job. Think he would have done that if his government check came from the post office each month instead?

Didn’t think so.

CWforFreedom on August 23, 2009 at 6:54 PM

No stout leftist would uphold the constitution – it is fraught with impediments and obstacles to those who would walk The Shining Path. The constitution receives lip service from leftists, who I believe would shred the thing in a heartbeat if they thought they could get away with it.

That is why they must never think they can get away with it.

During a heated healthcare debate, when someone rightfully asks you to name one Federal government-run program or agency that isn’t completely screwed up, borderline bankrupt, or both, just answer:

The few, the proud, Marines!

Sweet_Thang on August 23, 2009 at 7:29 PM

C’mon elections. Every one of these clowns will be looking for jobs. Maybe they’ll go back into law and learn how to read again.

Let me tell you something, simplesimon. That man could have said what he said without telling his status as a Marine, but he has pride in his choices…and he should. Look at him. His principles and love for his country, beautiful wife and child emanate from him.

He speaks from strength. He LIVES from strength.

From a conservative woman: thank God for strong, principled conservative men. They know how to look after what’s theirs…and their wives and girlfriends are very happy to be looked after. :)
