Video: Marine goes nuclear on Democrat over ObamaCare
posted at 4:48 pm on August 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
Via, er, HotAirPundit, red meat courtesy of the good folks who hijacked our last thread. The Democrat in question is Brian “Brown Shirts” Baird, thus the pounding he takes here is extra gratifying. Not sure I follow the Marine’s point about what right the feds have to tell him he can keep his insurance plan, though. Presumably he’s making a Commerce Clause argument a la Rivkin and Casey, but if growing weed on your own farm for your own use constitutes “quintessentially” economic activity, wouldn’t a program that affects 15 percent of the entire U.S. economy also qualify? If the public wants single-payer, hey — that’s democracy, red in tooth and claw.

That was pure sarcasm, imo. He first said something like “i heard you say that we can keep our insurance coverage – well *thank you*…” then followed it up with the comment about it wasn’t up to them to ‘let us’ keep our insurance – it’s up to us.

That was a clear representation of the real anger about what Obama, and his Dems are trying to do–hijack the market economy and make it socialist. We should follow that Marine’s example and defend the Constitution against enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC. Defend it will all of our strength and energy. WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY OBAMA’S GOONS.

Jesus Christ, AP.
No, there is nothing in the Constitution that gives the government power to dictate health insurance or health care decisions.
So no, the government does not have a right to make that decision.
Goddamn.
Riposte on August 22, 2009 at 5:02 PM
When Congressman say we will be allowed to keep our Health Insurance, a line has been crossed.
The point is the people don’t want it. Yet Congress apparently intends to force it upon us anyway. Again, the line will be crossed. It’s a matter of freedom and liberty.
When the government no longer fears nor respects the will of the people we cross from a republic into something else. We are fast approaching tyranny.

jhffmn on August 22, 2009 at 5:03 PM
That’s no surprise.
Huh? WHo is making this argument? The commerce clause is the only possible argument the federal government could possibly make, but it is a joke of an argument and the feds aren’t even trying. The feds are claiming the power to be able to open up a company in order to “provide competition” to the private sector, as they have said thousands of times, now. The federal government hasn’t even bothered trying to find any Constitutional justification for their insane takeover of health care. Probably because none exists.
I have no idea what you are trying to say. Are you claiming that the federal government has the power to do anything it wants? You sound like a liberal. One bad decision does not allow for the complete destruction of our entire system. That is foolishness of the highest order.
We don’t live in a Democracy. I thought you were supposed to be a lawyer, or something.
progressoverpeace on August 22, 2009 at 5:03 PM
Best part is at 0:48…that seems to get lost with all the harping on the supposed un-insured. What about the the tens and tens of millions of us who happen to like our private insurance and don’t need any donkey or the President himself re-assuring us it won’t go away when that’s none of their damn business to begin with…!!!

I haven’t even looked at the video, too slow, but I’ll lay very high odds you are right. And it goes straight to the main point – that the royalist, in their own minds, politicians think that anything they don’t take away from us peasants is some kind of gift from them.
MB4 on August 22, 2009 at 5:05 PM
Perhaps, but according to our Constitution we are not a pure Democracy.
If the federal government is not empowered to socialize healthcare, and it is not, then it cannot legally do so.
Hmm, speaking of which, since Obama is setting a precedent that the president has no obligation to enforce laws if he does not feel like it – see the black panther case – couldn’t a conservative president stop enforcing most of the federal register on the basis of it being unconstitutional?

And what if the public doesn’t want it and it is till rammed down our throats?? What, then, is that called??
I will say this, though,,, so what if the public did want something tomorrow that fundamentally changed our nation,, our way of government. Does the public just get it by congressional vote???
A government takeover of health care is really just government takeover of the people. We all become GIs! Government Issued! Property of the State! Is that not in direct contrast to our founding documents?? There is an amendment process to change our constitution! If they want government health care,, then do it through the amendment process! Then,, yes,, it would be legal! Our nation would be changed! Our liberty, our freedom gone! But yes,, it would be legal! That would be democracy! What this government is attempting is a coup!!

AP is just miffed cause his last thread got hijacked by the mob.
Saltysam on August 22, 2009 at 5:13 PM
They’ve already admitted that they think what we have earned is theirs a while back. That was a major sign of arrogance. And the hits just keep on coming. Now they think that being able to get into our bank accounts will be tolerated by way of the new government sponsored health care. They had no idea that we thought this to be offensive. Legalized thievery.
BetseyRoss on August 22, 2009 at 5:13 PM
Besides the enormous wealth America has which the left has been stealing for years … America is essentially the only western nation that hasn’t succumbed in one way or another to some form of socialized government. It stands in the way of socializing everything else.
darwin on August 22, 2009 at 5:14 PM
Around the 1:00 mark
Marine: Recently in the media, you and some other Dem’s have called us Brownshirt’s.
Baird: No, no I did not…what I said was….and I apologized for that.
So you didn’t say it but you did apologize for saying it?
Sounds like you got caught to me Baird. Ahh…the smell of sweet napalm on Democrats.

That was an amazingly sharp attack delivered in a strong yet sympathetic manner. We’ll be seeing an interview or two with this fine upstanding citizen.
I wanted to stand up with the crowd and applaud him. Brilliantly executed.
Mr Purple on August 22, 2009 at 5:18 PM
Excellent.
Herein is an object lesson for any of the trollish limp wristers out there. For every one of these Marines, there’s 150 more of us out here–defending freedom, from the ground level. We’ve seen tyranny, we’ve seen the effect of governments that run their people and their countries into the ground for their own agendas–and believe us—you don’t want that here.
This Marine speaks for many of us. Stay away from our kids, stay away from our decisions, stay away from our lives, and you better think twice about even batting a stink eye our way. There’s a conservative tidal wave that’s soon to crush panty waists like this empty suit Congressman. We’ve had it, we’ve had enough. No more mister nice guy. This is our country, we’ve fought for it, we’ve fought for your rights and liberties only to have them squandered by folks like you in education, government, media and so forth.
Are you hearing us now?
ted c on August 22, 2009 at 5:18 PM
It was said with a tinge of sarcasm. — As in, you said we will get to keep our insurance. Well thank you very much. I didn’t realize the government was in the business of determining if one gets to have or not have insurance.—

The words spoken by this Marine should have been spoken 60 years ago in this country. We’ve been going down the Socialist path since WWII.
Well … it’s better late than never. I think we are at the beginning of the end-game for Socialism in America. We can’t sustain it, it was going to die (and catastrophically). Maybe God ordained for Obama to become President so that the libbies could experience on last euphoric moment of nostalgia before watching their philosophy go up in smoke.

Sure they can. Every mother produces health care when she provides nutrients through her blood to her babies’ placentae, and her kidneys filter out their waste products. Then after they’re born and they get a widdle boo-boo (Precedent Obama has defined the level of discourse here with “wee-wee”) and she puts some Bactine and a Band-aid on it, she’s distributing health care from those who produce those products. The rest of us provide some of the health care we ourselves consume any time we use similar products, or just by watching what we eat or getting some exercise. Have you ever taken a vitamin or over-the-counter medicine of any kind? BAM! You’re a health-care provider!
See how easy it is? I could be a freaking Justice!

This show your ignorance of reality. For those of us other wise healthy individuals, we can’t get problems like chronic kidney stones covered, so when we need the occasional treatments we go into 5 figure debt that piles up with the high deductibles for other issues.
The insurance system stinks and needs a change.
If you can’t get coverage for what ails you, what’s the point? Is it just for cnacer or getting hit by a bus?

OT: Don’t laugh Monster, after the court shot down many of FDR’s new deal, FDR retaliated by stacking the court. They rammed the New Deal through damaging the COnstitution in the process. One of the consequences was that they began interpreting the commerce clause very broadly.
They used absurd arguments exactly like the one you wrote tongue in cheek to justify all sorts of blatant power grabs. In the 90s, the court finally realized that the way commerce clause was being interpreted anything could be considered economic and the federal government could justify taking control of anything and everything so they said enough and stopped it.
