Obama: This irresponsible talk of “death panels” offends me

posted at 2:00 pm on August 22, 2009 by Allahpundit

I can’t decide which part I like best. The ode to “vigorous debate” from a guy who wanted a bill rammed through Congress before the recess? The tut-tutting about divisive rhetoric from the leader of a party that’s spent the past month demagoguing its opponents as evil-mongering political terrorists? Or the demand from Captain Deficit that we stop putting off until tomorrow the big problems that need solving today?

Actually, this part’s my favorite. From the man who famously told the AFL-CIO in 2003 that he was a big proponent of single-payer:

We’ve all heard the charge that reform will somehow bring about a government takeover of health care. I know that sounds scary to many folks. It sounds scary to me, too. But here’s the thing: it’s not true. I no sooner want government to get between you and your doctor than I want insurance companies to make arbitrary decisions about what medical care is best for you, as they do today. As I’ve said from the beginning, under the reform we seek, if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you like your private health insurance plan, you can keep your plan. Period.

Totally true. And if that private plan you like so much ends up going under because it can’t compete with Uncle Sam’s bottomless pit of taxpayer funding, hey. Exit question: Does he really think running through the same stale talking points week after week is finally going to change the public’s attitude about this? As Fred Barnes notes, this day-in day-out garbage about keeping your plan, etc, has practically devolved into shtick at this point. It’s almost as if he can’t quite believe people might disagree with him, and that if only he keeps repeating himself, eventually his shining logic will seep into their brains. Hmmmm.

Blowback

……to run the nations banks, why that is as ridiculous as the federal government buying GM or Chrysler, or the feds actually stepping in and dictating pay to private industry, ludicrous I say. You evil mongers should listen to the crazy things your saying.

Obama’s irresponsible talk of programs that will destroy the economy and take away our liberty offends ME. If he’ll stop that, I’ll stop talking about the death panels that ARE in the bill in the form of health care panels that will decide what treatments are to be considered effective and affordable and for whom. Until then, Hey Mr President: We are done listening to your lies

AZfederalist on August 22, 2009 at 9:43 PM

I guess someone has said this before, so fogive me if I retread the thought.

I think Barry has several reasons for his inane performance on this issue.

The campaign was SO easy, nobody questioned anything the guy said, where he came from, nada. Porkulus went the same way. At least in the House, Crap + Tax, also. So to encounter resistance at this point is a little odd. “He won” and it’s all suppoosed to happen as he says.

No President has moved the country so far left (or to the right, either) so fast. The radical blitzkreig has gone well so far, as did the German thrust into Russia in War II. Then General Winter and the Russians closed in on the Germans and things got tough.

Getting tough is another problem. Barry isn’t tough. He orates when TOTUS is there, but without it he funbles signally. He doesn’t understand doing something hard, like clearing brush with a chain saw or throwing a baseball for a strike.

He has done nothing but talk all his life, more so than many politicians, and so talk is all he has now, besides buying people off with jobs…and he can’t buy off the country that way.

He is an ignorant man, of those outside his beliefs and echo chamber. The cloister of radical Marxist know-it-alls has not prepared him to undertand people outside the cloister or place any importance on such people…because they are soooo STUPID. So when Palin whacks him about death panels (just as the old/new VA manual hints broadly at) he just isn’t prepared to admit he’s wrong because teh source of criticism is soooo STUPID.

And, of course, his heartfelt promise of today is tomorrow’s used kleenex. Because the people he is promising things to are soooo STUPID, who cares what happens to them? They are just impediments when they object, not anything to be taken seriously…they don’t know enough. Bama is not the only one with this problem, either, look at any millk-carton Democrat. IMO, Bama has this problem in a really bad way.

My fond hope is Bama is too stupid to learn. That will help him to be among the most feckless of all Presidents and while it may cause some significant problems, unsecrewing the pooch will be a lot easier. because healthcare “reform” and Crap + Tax will languish, and the 2010 and 2012 elections might purge a lot of Marxists.

POTUS suffers from anti-social personality disorder. Narcissism is his primary clinical affliction. I maintain that he and Rahm-a-bam have somethin’ goin’ on and Michelle, the transvestite in drag, is his cover. Does she really have two X chromosomes?

IraqVet on August 22, 2009 at 10:01 PM

“The campaign was SO easy, nobody questioned anything the guy said, where he came from, nada. ”

Come on…He is black. How dare you question the credentials of a black man. Especially one who goes from Occidental College to the Ivy League armpit known as Columbia (McCain’s daughter graduated from there, need I say more?) , graduates with NO honors (thus a GPA less than 3.2) and gets into Harvard, where he is SELECTED to be the president of Harvard Law Review. Coincidentally the same year that the black faculty protest about the paucity of black faces in the Harvard ranks. Barry, raised by rich white grandparents, is the only president of HLR that does not publish a single paper.

He was elected because of white guilt. And now all of these stupid white people are about to be taxed into oblivion and share the same emergency room with Guadalupe Jose Hiimalgos Garcia carrying the most virulent strain of H1N1 virus frah from Cost Rica.

You may have hit on a real gem here. The One has never really had to perform a real job, at all during his whole life (please correct me if I’m wrong). Most of us had to do things like deliver newspapers, wait or clean up tables (I know, that’s racist), roof or frame houses, clean out stalls, irrigate crops, mow yards, etc. All of those tasks were formative experiences and instilled an appreciation of labor and the knowledge that one should be able to keep most of that for which they have worked. From what it appears, the hardest thing The One ever did was play basketball and lift weights. That kind of thing warps one’s perspective, making “work” an esoteric concept and the investment of time and self inherent in such work something that is not even considered. Thus it is easy to talk about “making those who have benefited pay” or having no qualms over holding the decisions for health benefits later in life as a purely statistical exercise.

The secret is that except for running for office and reading a prepared speech, Obama is an incompetent politician. Competent politicians modify their actions to take advantage of the changing political landscape. Incompetent politicians simply repeat the same thing time after time and hope for different results. So, yes, he will repeat the same lines incessantly until sometime around November, 2012.

Fred 2 on August 22, 2009 at 3:22 PM

I hope you’re right. Bill Clinton was a more savvy pol in that regard. I think Dear Leader is too inflexible and “encased” in a bubble to learn. Being surrounded by sycophants and a fawning media doesn’t help.

Every time this character accuses someone else of telling lies or distorting facts, he raises his own level of dishonesty tenfold. When he says he welcomes debate on this issue of health care, he almost chokes, and you don’t have to be an expert in body language and/or psychology to see the anger slowly bubbling to the surface. Barry may never “snap” and look less presidential than he already is, but I’d bet a year of free health care from my private insurer that Rahmbo is close to being fitted for a new jacket and a trip to a padded office courtesy of the men in the little white coats.

darktood on August 23, 2009 at 12:33 AM

Problem with that is, the lie you keep telling has to have some substance and can’t be so totally transparent that it is easily demonstrated as a falsehood. Even Goebbels wouldn’t have been able to tell people the sky is green often enough to get them to believe it.

The One can’t keep saying, “you can keep your plan if you like it” often enough to dispute the cold hard wording of the bill on Page 17. “Who you gonna believe, me, or your lying eyes?” doesn’t work for everything.

Obama is evil incarnate.

That is truly disappointing, isn’t it? Aside from some belated words from Steele the other day, the GOP has been pretty silent while the Tea Parties and anti-healthcare rallies have gained steam.

Maybe it’s strategic, showing that the resistance is coming from the grass roots and not being orchestrated by the party. At least I would hope that’s the case.

Johan Klaus on August 23, 2009 at 1:21 AM

Not here — there is a blog where that is the case, but it’s run by a nut-case.

Anywho, I would argue more beast than anti-Christ. The anti-Christ is to come from inside the faith and mislead believers with false doctrine — Obama doesn’t appear to fit that criteria. However, the beast that the world worships — interpreted as the state, or government that attempts to substitute itself as, and in the place of, God — that would fit pretty well.

AZfederalist on August 23, 2009 at 1:06 AM

Well stated, AZfederalist, and exactly what has been on my heart since POTUS first uttered “partners with God in life or death decisions” this past week.

My first thought was, “To which god (deliberate little ‘g’) are you referring, Mr. President?” For the God I know and love does not bless and sanctify those who who are liars, those who are thieves, those who are murderers, as well as all the other things Obama believes in and stands for by word and deed.

God does not partner with mortal man, nor does He need advice or assistance from the likes of Obama and his ilk.

Obama has now crossed the line and committed blasphemy, and it is a dangerous place for him to be. Obama fancies himself to be some sort of “saviour,” but he is wrong and God will not be mocked.

I, too, pray that when God’s judgment falls on Obama (and it will, sooner than any of us can even imagine) that God will be merciful toward our country and toward those who are doing all they can to stop the evil, despicable and unholy trinity of Obama/Pelosi/Reid.

Obama is offended? F him! And the MF-ing Democrat donkey he rode in on. The real jackass isn’t the Dem symbol. It’s the jackasses that make up that Party.

Obama’s mentor, Saul Alinsky, dedicated his book “Rules for Radicals” to Lucifer…”the first radical known to man, who rebelled against the establishment, and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom.”

And now we finally have the answer to the question, “WTF is wrong with Obama?”

Obama is evil incarnate.

He offends and sickens me every time he opens his mouth. But more than that, he offends God.

And despite what the Narcissist-in-Chief may think, God is still in control and He is not a partner with Obama in his sinister plans to destroy our country.

GrannyDee on August 23, 2009 at 1:00 AM

That is an interesting bit of information. Obama will not be awarded America as his kingdom. Hell no.

ANTIPATHY.

Obamonotony thin skin pantywaist takes great offense at any difference of opinion, and prepares to call out the guard to enforce his own.

ONE VOICE.

Dictators offend me.

maverick muse on August 23, 2009 at 7:44 AM

Got on here this morning to express how offended I am by everything this person stands for, but you all have done a wonderful job before me. Since it is Sunday, I can find one nice thing to say…the family dog is cute. Too bad it is named after BHO.

indypat on August 23, 2009 at 7:48 AM

Maybe Ramirez should do a cartoon showing Palin in a helicopter taking a shot at a wolf labeled “health care reform” with a bullet labeled “death panels.”

Kafir on August 23, 2009 at 8:13 AM

Gee, I take him at his word. Obama doesn’t want to come between you and your doctor. He just wants to tell you whether the red or blue pill is better. Or whether your kid has allergies or needs his tonsils out. Or whether you should take shots for your diabetes or have your foot cut off.

No biggie, Americans. Sheesh, get a grip, you offend me with all your wee-wee.

YES WE CAN!!!

(Is the sarc tag even necessary here?)

Grace_is_sufficient on August 23, 2009 at 8:23 AM

If only out of respect for our troops, people would stop making things up about death panels.

Constant Parrhesia on August 23, 2009 at 8:25 AM

Actually the talk is NOT irresponsible. Quite the contrary. When those of us with reading and comprehension skills read your legislation bozo, we can see what you are doing.

The bill DOES contain “death panels”. No it doesn’t use that exact phrase, but it describes all the machinations defined by that term on paged 427 – 464.

Bozo, you also said the bill doesn’t cover abortions, IT DOES.

Bozo, you said people can keep their doctors and their present insurance, THEY CANNOT.

If your plan was so good on the merits, you would not need to lie about it.

dogsoldier on August 23, 2009 at 8:32 AM

Chris Wallace is having a segment on his show about the Death Book used by the VA. Obama approved that so I have no doubt there will be “end of life counseling”. Yhe VA is doing it!

They want our wounded vets to consider offing themselves. How disgusting.

becki51758 on August 23, 2009 at 8:35 AM

After reading the bulk of the comments in this thread that questions the intellectual and leadership skills of a President that is attempting to move this nation in the direction of a more centralized government dependency, the next rational question would be, who are the “other players” in this great social experiment? If Obama’s pale of rhetoric is so full of holes, why and how is he still driving this plan that is being rejected by a strong majority of the general public? When the lights are turned on in the proverbial room of systematic strategist, who are the rats that are scurrying to the dark corners undetected, yet still driving this agenda down the throats of an unwilling citizenry? How many more unchecked and unregulated Czars will it take for this statist President to complete his Politburo?

President Obama, YOU WON!, you are the President of these UNITED states—now try to act like one. It was not the intentions of our founding fathers to allow the institution of the OFFICE to be run by a committee of Czars and mandated sycophants. STOP bastardizing and demoralizing this OFFICE and try something truly novel and original, (and in your case, unprecedented), like listening to the American patriots that elected you. WE are not “un-American Nazi’s” or astro-turfers storming your townhalls across the fruited plains pleading that you drop this insane ideology of government run healthcare under the guise of covering “42 million” souls. And WE are not the one’s who are spreading lies, fabrications, and misunderstandings about this blatant attempt to socialize our healthcare. This nation CAN NOT afford this plan fiscally or morally, and WE reject your pathetic attempt to inject GOD into this equation as if you had one moral bone in your body. How dare you condone the slaughter of millions of unborn souls, and yet have the audacity to pronounce moral obligations. Throw away your community organizing skills, your Czars, your committees and try something different—like being a President of these UNITED STATES.

He, he; This low life is offended? When’s he going to say, “Hey; I’m black, and I won; I get priority treatment in everything I do; Don’t you know that?”
It’s the only “sympathy card” he hasn’t used yet. (This bum really does think he’s king, now.)

Chuck Shumer on Meet The Press this morning; “Medicare is going to be broke in the next few years”.
Medicare is the medical program that Congress has had control of, and been responsible for, since the beginning; If they can’t control Medicare, how are they going to control any medical program?
They’ve already had their chance to prove their competence in governing any program like this.

Is it possible that the elitest actually think they are so much smarter than Americans that they get annoyed if we don’t act like brainwashed lemmings like the liberal dimocrats? Surely a scam of this magnitude would not be so blatantly obvious. Zerobama is an insult to our nation.

volsense on August 23, 2009 at 10:55 AM

Yeah right Obama . . . go talk to your VA administrator and get the real story. If you’d treat our brave veterans this way why would we believe you wouldn’t treat our elderly in a similar manner. Obama is an absolute phony.

rplat on August 23, 2009 at 11:17 AM

I’m kinda wondering if his real problem is not that he believes his own press. He really does think he’s the messiah, partner with god.
Or maybe he just isn’t always taking his meds on time. That can screw up your thinking as well.

All men in power have ego, that’s a given, but Douchebag Obama suffers from a severe case of NPD, a symptom that usually apear in Hollywood celebreties and dictators, not leaders of the free world.

I love it that when you google: Narcissistic Personality Disorder, a result for Obama YT video comes up on the first page. I’m trying to achieve the same result with googling “douchebag.”

I do want a public option for Americans, but I can’t say that I’m very impressed with Obama’s political savvy. I pretty much agree with the poster who said that Obama had an easy time of it in the primary and the election. He’s not really faced “No” until now.

How our leaders handle that one is really more telling than when everyone is agreeing.

It has never been easy, moving this nation forward. There are always those who oppose it, and those who use fear to block change.”

Thank you Hussein for your concerns however, we will decide how far to move this nation forward. Fear, let me say, “keep your hands off!”

Now as for being irresponsible:
Hussein spent $787 Billion of our dollars and made promises of Jobs. Where are the Jobs and why is unemployment still rising?

Hussein stimulated and took control of the banking industry and they are still taking bonuses and our Pensions are shrinking or no longer in existance.

Hussein gave us a “Raw Deal”, the Cash for Clunkers program which is paid for by Tax Dollars. Did we not see this coming……Spend our money to stimulate Government Motors which is also owned by the Government. I still say this is un-Constitutional!

Hussein and his list of Criminals are still looking for a Scape Goat in attempt to convince everyone that Gitmo should be Closed!

Hussein believes that Iraq was wrong but Afganistan is right!

Are we still blaming BUSH?

“The guide, called ‘Your Life, Your Choices,’ was suspended under the Bush administration but has been revived under the current Department of Veterans Affairs.”

“…Tammy Duckworth, an injured [chopper pilot in Iraq] veteran who is the [A]ssistant [S]ecretary for the Department of Veterans Affairs, said the manual is still under revision — as stated in a disclaimer on the official Web site — and has not officially been “reinstated.”

She said that the VA is committed to an entirely new approach for assisting veterans, including the continuing unacceptable “homeless problem” that has never been significantly and appropriately addressed.

Though Duckworth said the document has not been fully vetted, an official[not sourced?] directive from July, tells VA health practitioners to refer veterans to the document. Duckworth questioned whether that directive had been authorized at the highest levels.”

Oh well…!

Someone needs to ask Bozo, why senators said they were taking the death Panel provisions out, if they weren’t in there.

And suggest he read the bills. Oh wait! That would be work. And he is after all, on vacation.
