Ramirez: Trojan Donkey

posted at 10:55 am on August 21, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

The Trojans may have been wiped out, but they left us a very useful metaphor, didn’t they?  Michael Ramirez, the Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist for Investors Business Daily, practically gallops away with the Trojan Horse … or something more appropriate:

As with all Ramirez cartoons, there are a lot of themes running through this.  On the surface, Ramirez highlights the deceptive nature of the public plan in ObamaCare, helpfully highlighted by Obama’s own allies over the past couple of years.  But Ramirez speaks to more than just the health-care debate; the entire populist agenda of Barack Obama and the Congressional Democrats is a Trojan horse for statism, whether it’s cap-and-trade, FOCA, Card Check, or any of the rest of the Democratic agenda for 2009-10.  It’s all about breaching the defenses of liberty and having the government control our lives.

Ramirez has a terrific collection of his works: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion, which covers the entire breadth of Ramirez’ career, and it gives a fascinating look at political history.  Read my review here, and watch my interviews with Ramirez here and here.  And don’t forget to check out the entire IBD site, while individual investors still exist.

That wouldn’t be the first Trojan Donkey, either, especially after the jack*ss who just got elected by pretending to be a centrist.

Classic Ramirez…

I prefer to use the other Trojan analogy;

Government health care is the condom that tries to convince America it’s safe to get f*cked by a disease carrying leviathan.

BadgerHawk on August 21, 2009 at 10:59 AM

Not only that, but the “blue dogs” were “trojan donkeys” elected in conservative districts because they claimed to be conservative that were used to elect a radical leftist leadership of Pelosi and Reid.

They are already in huge trouble over voting for Porkulus, voting for Obamacare will certainly mean that a lot of them will get run out in 2010.

If we could get enough true conservative Republicans elected to the House in 2010, we can at least stop this crap. The senate will take longer, but I see it happening.

You can comment on the headline threads. You may have to log in a second, though. I had to do that for a couple weeks right after they created the Headlines.

If we could get enough true conservative Republicans elected to the House in 2010, we can at least stop this crap.

They don’t even have to be Republicans, they can be proven conservatives and properly vetted before endorsement.

Thanks Badger and John. All these months and I did not notice that!

How many Trojan donkeys have there been since Ogabe was elected, including himself?

But of course there are still enough moron Trojans in America to run out through the main gates and drag the next one back in while saying, “This time it will be different”.

Come on, people. That trojan horse is full of Adults (TM-getalife) who are here to help you.

That, and a Bridge in Brooklyn, should complete your set. But you have to order now, because we can’t do this all day.

Sometimes Ramirez just nails it, as does this one.

And all he does is re-express the obvious! But I got a great chuckle with the “Nope, no government in here…” because that is EXACTLY the ruse Obama is using to create his socialist state of America. Check out the vast numbers of the army below the trojan donkey! That’s us!

teke184 on August 21, 2009 at 10:57 AM

The one bit of good news from this last election was that Obama had to run as a tax cutting, budget hawk moderate to win. And the Democrats controlling congress had to run against congress.

Looks like the populace has finally noticed they didn’t vote in a moderate for president, and oh yes, the Democrats were running the congress in 2006-8 which the voters were unhappy with.

New ironic (actual) word of the day/month/year/current administration:

mulo.

According to the Real Academia Espagnola mulo has two meanings in Spanish. The first meaning is “mule” from Latin mulus. The second meaning of mulo is “a person characterized by strength and vigour”.

(Del lat. mulus).

1. m. Hijo de caballo y burra o de asno y yegua, casi siempre estéril. (Translate: Son of horse and donkey or ass and mare, almost always sterile.)

2. m. coloq. Persona fuerte y vigorosa. (Translate: Strong and vigorous person.)

http://buscon.rae.es/draeI/SrvltConsulta?TIPO_BUS=3&LEMA=mulo

For some reason the two definitions certainly don’t mesh well together nowadays, does it?

BadgerHawk on August 21, 2009 at 10:59 AM

Actually, I’ve always wondered why someone would want to use “Trojan” for a condom brand because of that vary same analogy, so I don’t really distinguish between the two.

When I was 11 I wanted to name my first dog ‘Trojan’. Mom said no. It took me about 3 years to realize why.

Ramirez nails it, but this has been part and parcel of socialist practice going back to their earliest days.

LOL, Trojan donkey

Speaking of the ass, read and weep: civil war?

The most divisive president ever. Lincoln did not sell out American citizenship to foreign interests, and usurp all the US private industry bought out by tax payers’ dollars before destroying all value to the dollar to prevent any turn-about purchase by private owners.

Blinded by their apocalyptic optimism—which turns like a tropism to the opposition’s apocalyptic pessimism—-liberals haven’t been able to see beyond it to the more manageable rational resistance. They won’t let Obama do what he does with genius: play politics. Having come to associate politics with its perversion, they considered Obama’s victory a triumph over politics itself. In their eyes, we are not just living in a post-racial society. We are living in a post-political one. No compromise!

Having come to associate politics with its perversion,” SOCIALISTS INSIST THEIR OWN POLITICS ARE PURE, ALWAYS WITHOUT SIN.

/Get real with the vocabulary. Abusers only hijack virtuous words for their associative public attraction. Socialism, progressive, then liberal, just like gay, are all perversions and deserve no repetition in perverted form that enables the acceptance of fallacy as the only option. Call a spade a spade. Marxists are not benevolent designers of society, nor of your life. The RNC finally got around to whispering that Democrats are Socialists. Well, Socialists are Marxists.

aengus on August 21, 2009 at 12:56 PM

Progressivism (statism) is the Trojan donkey.

Hey, how about a Constitutional amemdment for limiting federal taxation and requiring balanced budgets? That might slow them down a little, if only we could swing it.

But then again, progressives don’t feel constrained by things like Constitutions, do they.
