Poll: Romney least favorite Republican candidate among Birthers
posted at 8:30 pm on August 21, 2009 by Allahpundit
Dumb yet fascinating. Obama’s birth certificate won’t be an issue in the primaries (let’s hope) so how the big three rank is unimportant — unless Birtherism is actually a proxy for other political dynamics, in which case this becomes an interesting little data point. But if it’s a proxy, what’s it a proxy for? Level of education? Regional identification? Something else? My hunch is that the further right you go, the more Birther-y you get, not because you’re any more credulous on the merits of the birth-certificate argument but because the more adamant your opposition to Obama’s agenda, the more desperately you want him out of office. PPP comes to a similar conclusion:
Not surprisingly only 16% of [Birthers] approve of Obama’s job performance while 75% disapprove. I think Mike Littwin might have hit on a pretty good point in the Denver Post today, which is that some of the people who purport to be birthers might not really believe it but that it’s shorthand for their general unhappiness with the President.
Romney’s favorability among the group tops out at just 43 percent compared to 57 percent approval among non-Birthers. That’s the biggest spread of any of the four candidates mentioned in the poll (Mitt, Huck, Palin, Gingrich), and big enough that PPP declares, “I mean this with all sincerity — Romney’s lack of popularity with the birther wing of the GOP really could scuttle his chances at the nomination in three years.” Sounds nutty, but if Birthers are a proxy for “true conservatives” — i.e. southern, populist, fiscally and socially conservative — then yeah, he’s got problems. In fact, Huckabee and Palin outpoll him among Birthers and non-Birthers alike.
For the record, and further to my theory, the ideological split among Birthers is 69 percent conservative and 30 percent moderate versus 46/53 among non-Birthers. Oh, and as for who tops the field among Birthers: Guess. Exit stat: “63% of all Americans with a favorable opinion of Sarah Palin are birthers. Same thing with 53% of those who like Gingrich, 50% who view Huckabee positively, and 44% for Romney.”

If things keep going to the way they are – I could run for POTUS and get elected as a better alternative to Obama.
Still think they aren’t polling the nominee on our side. I don’t think it’s going to be Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty. Palin a long shot but maybe

Wrong. As you move from the squishy center, right, you run into people who adhere to the Constitutional structure that forms the foundation of this nation, and with them you run into the obvious Constitutional problem that dual citizens are not natural born citizens. It is, after all, quite obvious that the Founders had no intention of including dual-citizens as natural born citizens, since the Founders refused to recognize American dual citizenship, to start with. But … somehow, people can convince themselves that this isn’t the case. I have no idea how you reckon that, but as you try to make fun of those of us who clearly understand what the Constitutional phrasing means, you sound like The Precedent in his pathetic attempt to mock conservatives and explain to everyone that “spending is stimulus … what do you think stimulus is?”

Did y’all hear Rush’s comment about today being Hawaii’s anniversary of statehood. Paraphrasing–Hawaii has been a state for 50 years except for one day in 1961 when it became the country of Kenya. I laughed.
I’m not a birther, but I would like to see the certificate to see what all the mystery is about (why he won’t show it). Must be quite controversial.

Nightmares of nightmares.

The tooth fairy gave it to the pollster.
Joke aside Mitt can’t win all of the Southern States. If he lost one he will lose the election.
There is a deep hatred of him in the South and gun owning states.
The only way I can see Obama winning in the next election is his willingness to embrace gun ownership and run against an anti-gun Republican candidate like Mitt.
jdun on August 21, 2009 at 8:53 PM
This is so f*cking stupid. If you’re a birther, stop it. Its detrimental to the party and the country. Find political reasons to oppose Obama. Forget this crap. This is almost more embarassing than the Evolution/Creation split.
I’ll vote for Romney every single time now just to piss off the Birthers. And don’t anyone dare call me a RINO. If believing God created the earth in seven days, LITERALLY, and believing Obama, despite ALL evidence to the contrary, was not born in Hawaii is a requirement for being conservative, then we are in serious trouble.

MITT ROMNEY IS NOT QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT!!
A quick look at Mitt Romney’s Wikipedia page reveals something very interesting. The page goes into great detail about Romney’s father but doesn’t mention him having a mother at all.
If someone doesn’t have a mother can it truly be said that they are a “natural-born citizen.” How can someone be naturally born without a mother. Puh-leez.
Of course now that I’ve raised this issue I’m sure that a forged birth certificate with some fabricated mother’s name will soon be provided by the Governor.

It seems clear to me that the Constitution only states what requirements a citizen must meet for POTUS eligibility. Nothing about what is acceptable/unacceptable verification of the eligibility. Therefore, any argument about the validity of his documentation is no longer a Constitutional based argument.

So, a 2009 poll of an inconsequential demographic about the potential Republican candidates for president in 2012. And you try to draw conclusions from that…
facepalm

Lets see, I love Palin, can’t stand RINO’s Romney and McCain and absolutely hate the piece of crap Obama. I believe that Obama was born in Hawaii but that he can’t be a true American because he hates this country so much. Am I a “birther?”
farright on August 21, 2009 at 9:10 PM
Well I belie your hunch as well as whatever divining rod contraption PPP, whomever that is, uses to come to his “shorthand” as I am totally “birther” and I am less to the right than most commenters here and it is because the man in the White House has shown nothing but a lame “Certification” rather than a “Certificate” (they do sound alike but then so to Veteran and Veterinarian) and that is about like 2 french fries versus a Happy Meal or like a “Doctor’s License” that you could get on the internet versus one you get at a Medical School. How does anyone here really know where he was born? He has his “Certificate”, aka Long Form, under lock and key. I don’t have the key. Do you have the key, Allahpundit? Does anyone here have the key? Again, how does anyone really know, with all his hiding, if he is legally in office, and after all that is really the point.
MB4 on August 21, 2009 at 9:10 PM
Why do you guys call Romney and McCain RINO’s? They seem to fit into the Republican party just fine. Now, CINO might be more appropriate.
Upstater85 on August 21, 2009 at 9:11 PM
Dual citizens are not natural born citizens. Period. The Founders didn’t accept American dual citizenship so the idea that they meant to include multiple citizens in the category of natural born citizens is silly, at best.
Documentation is needed for verification of whatever the requirements are. The Precedent presented no documentation to anyone. This is obvious, since not a person on Earth can even say what hospital he was born in, as he has claimed two different hospitals, himself.
The fact is that B Hussein’s eligibility has never been checked by any official body. But too many of the Vichy right are embarrassed to even ask to have his eligibility checked. That’s just ridiculous. And then they try and get all condescending in their total ignorance, which is too funny.
progressoverpeace on August 21, 2009 at 9:13 PM

Romney has little chance of winning the primaries.
Apart from all the valid reasons that many republicans don’t like him, look at all the primary polls. Even though he may be the front runner by a few points, the other three close are conservatives, Palin, Huckabee, Gringrich. They are splitting their own votes. Once one or two drop out, the others will overtake Romney.
And Pawlenty – a lighter version of Romney, with more honesty, and a fresh face will run, and take some votes from him as well.
Romney should forget his presidential aspirations.

The Republican Party left me years ago. John McCain is the last Republican I will vote for(I never voted Socialist,er I mean Democrat). I’m not a birther, but am a strict Constitutionalist, and a newly registered Libertarian. The Libertarian Party is closest to the Founding
