Gibbs: Obama’s willing to be a one-term president to pass health care
posted at 4:05 pm on August 21, 2009 by Allahpundit
Via Breitbart, your transparent White House lie of the day. If this were remotely true, Obama never would have flirted with health-care co-ops or reached out to Grassley and Snowe for political cover on a phony “bipartisan” bill. He’d have drawn a line in the sand, demanded the public option that he’s been dreaming of for years, and told the Blue Dogs that they can either get on board or face reconciliation in the Senate and an all-out media blitz from the White House press shop and lefty PACs. (And yes, reconciliation is feasible, even though it would be difficult.) Sure, it would have alienated the GOP, the centrist wing of his own party, and the growing majority that opposes ObamaCare, but so what? The dream of Hopenchange would have been realized. And according to our pal Gibbsy, that’s all that matters.
The hard truth for the left is that our supposedly genius president may be a one-termer anyway, precisely because he isn’t willing to make tough, risky decisions:
So imagine if Obama had focused on fixing the economy, and chosen presidential power over congressional accommodation and constructed his American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as a true, immediate stimulus without the pork and paybacks.
He then could have pushed through tougher regulation of financial institutions, making it clear people were paying for their sins, and would have a much harder time doing it again. This would have delighted the left and perhaps bought Obama more durable support among independents. Instead, the left thinks he’s beholden to investment banks, and much of the public sees no consequences for the financial mess.
Add in some serious budget cuts, and Obama would have positioned himself as a new kind of liberal with the courage to tame Washington and Wall Street, as promised. Under this scenario, Obama might be getting more credit for the economic recovery that appears to be under way. This would have positioned him to win health-care reform starting next year — a mighty achievement, and clear vindication against the doubters.
Now, with the public’s confidence in him shaken, he’s ready to accept a watered-down bill purely in the interests of getting something passed and saving political face — the precise opposite of Gibbs’s spin here. No wonder Krugman and the left feel betrayed.

Is he willing to be a quarter term president? (Impeachment; I’m not suggesting anything else.)
Of course if he does ram it through without being impeached, he probably won’t have to stand for re-election… The final nail in the economy’s coffin will be driven, the country will self destruct and he will be able to get away with declaring martial law and suspending elections.
Now, where did I put that tin-foil?

Fixed. Obama is a ditherer. A natural-born shyster in an executive suit. Unfortunately, he’s also a tyrant at heart with the soul of a rat, much like the men he admires (Chavez, Castro, etc.).

Oh, sure, Gibbsie. Obama is willing to be a one-term president. How big of him. Once he controls another major sector of the economy, he would be the last president. We could just “move on” to his being permanent dictator.

Terribly wrong thinking, allah. These tactics are for use in pushing more legislation through, to kill the US more quickly, not to get another term.
He doesn’
t care one whit about the “public option” or anything else. All The Precedent wants to do is create chaos, which is why he’s let the Congress do all of the legislation on their own.
I don’t even know what you’re getting at, here.
Allah, The Precedent’s actions will continue to baffle you until you accept what his motoivations are, and getting a second term is not in there. The moron is surprised he hasn’t been tossed out of office, already, but he knows that it’s just a matter of time. He’s racing against this and trying to do as much damage as he possibly can.
That’s it. Get your head straight, man.

Obama is so gifted with his use of language it is difficult to know exactly what his real intentions might be. What he says is much to dependent on what the listener thinks he heard, which is dependent on what the listener wants to hear.
Gibbs let the cat out when he explained the ‘we we’ comment by translating it as ‘bed wetters’. What was left unsaid, or unreported was who was the intended target.
If you translate it into ‘those cowardly blue dog democrat bedwetters’ who are afraid of the voters and won’t vote for health care, the comment makes sense.
Is Obama really weak and cowardly, or are his threats so understated you don’t hear them as threats? We won’t know until the thugs show up.
Skandia Recluse on August 21, 2009 at 4:36 PM
Is it me or does Gibbs look like he’s about to have a nervous breakdown?

It’s good to see that they recognize that reality. I’m not sure if he really means it or not, but even if he does mean it, are enough congressmen willing to fall on their sword with him for this?
Either way, I thought this was all just a fabrication of the right wing? All the opposition is just a bunch of astroturfers funded by the RNC and health insurers. Just a bunch of fringy nazi’s. Now why on earth would they be talking publicly about one term when the opposition to this is just a bunch of organized kooks? Hmmm, I’m going to have to think this one though for about 2 seconds.

Exactly. However, at Harvard, affirmative action selections are allowed to use “wee-weed” to indicate ‘anxious’. I believe that a poetic use opf “wee-wee” in his essay was what got B Hussein an editor position on the Law Review. A later talk about “poo poo” is what captured the Law Review precedency for him.

Time to ram it through?
Obama must convince more Democrat congress-people for that to happen, and he hasn’t been able to do that. His own party is his largest problem with passage of his dream of a government-run healthcare system.
One term?
Right now I’m concerned with midterms. I think American voters are ready for a make-up call to fix their mistaken vote for Obama. Many have seen the light, and their numbers are growing.
Deflation will be evident just in time for the the next presidential election. Obama will go the way of Carter. The middle class is joining the top producer class in going Galt, which spells disaster for Obama and the Democrats. Low spending, low investment, tight lending, low tax receipts, and almost all the FED’s bullets are fired. Deflation is next.
At least he’s a pretty good war president so far. He’s staying the Bush course in Iraq, and escalating in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This is easy now that the left is distracted by utopian dreams of sitting on it’s collective ass and and snorting up benefits. Afghanistan will be a real test by next year. What is Obama’s plan? What is his exit strategy? What constitutes victory?
We await his answers.
Meremortal on August 21, 2009 at 4:43 PM
He’s a National Embarrassment.
P.S. It’s not up to Slobama if he gets a 2nd term. That’s a done deal. He ain’t goin’ nowhere but back to Chicagoland. The quicker the better. Once these Czars are exposed it’s time to break out that old dusty Constitution to show that he has broken the Oath of Office and should step down or face impeachment. Or charges of Treason. He can pick his own remedy.
Key West Reader on August 21, 2009 at 4:43 PM
Weed-up, man! Obama’s smoking something.
HR 2493 bill introduced by Barney Frank in June 2009 would legalize 100 grams of marijuana through an Act of Congress for person use. That’s about 20 joints worth.

But with all the protests at the town halls, I’m beginning to be encouraged that he won’t get away with anything like it.

Key West Reader on August 21, 2009 at 4:45 PM
Another lie. If Obama was willing to be a one term President he wouldn’t have push implementation of his health care “reform” back to 2013.Since it had to be rushed into law in 2009. He wanted to get “reform” passed now then run as the President who was able to bring the US health “reform”. He expected to be safely reelected in 2012 before Americans started losing their private health insurance in 2013 and are then forced onto the inferior government plan.Fortunately for us the American people changed his plans.
Hera on August 21, 2009 at 4:45 PM
I thought it was shameful enough when Obama started adding on “and stuff”to his speeches. Now we’ve got this Gibbs guy trying to explain “Wee-weed” to the media. How much more repugnant and repulsive can Obama get?

person use = personal use
Kokonut on August 21, 2009 at 4:46 PM
It’s a lie.
Priority #1 for every and any pol is getting reelected. Passing a public auction and then getting thrown out of office only to then have the next POTUS/Congress reverse all or parts of the whole thing doesn’t do anything for his lust for legacy. Except, I should say, for a negative one.
JoeinTX on August 21, 2009 at 4:47 PM
HA!
Obama has only yet begun. He’s counting on a 2nd term, to be sure.
Because, as Barackus Caesar said himself, “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!”
The hilarious part is, he’s shooting himself in the foot and doing more damage to his chances of reelection than any opposition could hope to do.
SilverStar830 on August 21, 2009 at 4:47 PM

Get off the cross, Obama. No one’s buying it. No one at all. Narcissists can’t be martyrs; they aren’t wired for it. Try another approach. One more in keeping with the fact — which we all know now — that you don’t sacrifice yourself for anything or anyone. You are all about sacrificing others for your own gain.

I would not believe anything Gibbs said.
And all of The Annointed One’s statements come with an expiration date. Also, allah, you are assuming that The Precedent has a brain. He doesn’t. He’s as dumb as a box of rocks, which is the only thing the US has going for it, right now.
Once you rejigger your analysis to take into account:
1) The Precedent doesn’t care about a second term.
2) The Precedent wants nothing but to bring as much chaos and pain to the US as possible.
3) The Precedent is a moron who couldn’t tie his own shoes and trips over feathers.

I think Obama may indeed be willing to be a one-term president if he can bring to pass the fundamental, structural changes that he and the left want, to transform America. But I don’t think it ever occurred to him that he might be a one-term president and not get any of those fundamental changes through. I have a kernel of hope that his combination of arrogance and inexperience may save the country from him.

I didn’t bother to listen to Bobbi, because I’ve come to a similar conclusion on my own.
Bambi doesn’t care if he is a one term POTUS,whether Obamacare goes through or not.His legacy as POTUS means nothing to him.Certainly the condition of the country when he leaves office is unimportant. The ONLY THING THAT MATTERS TO OBAMA IS THE FACT THAT NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS,he will be able to say,”I was the President of the United States.”
In the immature Liberal mind, the only thing that matters is the action, not the results of the action. So,Bambi will run again, but he really doesn’t care if he gets re-elected,because… he was elected once.
This is the reason that Liberals don’t have clear set, well thought out goals and are always flip-flopping and back pedalling;because they just want the title, not the responsibilty that goes along with the title.Their goal is to get into the office, not to fulfill the office.

It is a long time until the next election. A lot of people wrote Bill Clinton off but he came back. However, I don’t think that Obama is as smart as Clinton.
And I also don’t think that the economy will recover enough to help him that much..or if it does recover, it will be because of huge and crippling deficits. Sooner or later that debt has to be dealt with.
And this socalled health care takeover seems more like a power grab than reform..

Why do you really think this guy is interested in 2 terms? He is interested in reshaping the constitution (which is to say destroy it in it’s current form) by creating tons of programs that will break our current system. He has the will, the programs (cap & trade, health care, stimulus, etc.) and the votes to do it. And, it will not take 2 terms to accomplish that.
I think some Conservatives look at the awfulness of this administration the same way some juries look at the sex offender they acquit. The crime they committed is just so awful that they can’t bring themselves to believe the guy actually did it.
Similarly with Obama, Conservatives think that what he wants to accomplish is so horrific that he just could’t really do it.
He can. He will. (Budget deficits just readjusted today from $7,000,000,000,000.00 to $9,000,000,000,000.00 as Obama wrings his hands.)
