Oh my: Obama down to 45% approval in new Zogby poll
posted at 9:00 pm on August 20, 2009 by Allahpundit
I remember back in the day when “Zogby” used to be a curse word among conservative bloggers. Change:
Asked whether they approve or disapprove of the president’s job performance, just 45.3 percent of likely voters say they approve. That compares with 50.5 percent who disapprove of the job Obama is doing.
The results are a strong indication that contentious national debate over healthcare reform has taken a major toll on the president’s popularity…
Of greatest concern to Obama may well be his decline among all-important independent voters. Just 37.5 percent of self-identified independents say they approve of how Obama is handling the presidency. That compares with 59.2 percent of independents who disapprove…
Continued evidence of declining popularity there will ratchet up the pressure on congressional blue dogs and other conservative Democrats to go their own way on controversial proposals such as public-option healthcare and energy cap-and-trade, knowing they can’t rely on presidential coattails to prop them up with voters.
Quite so, which is why any righty blogger with any kind of audience should be trumpeting Obama’s declining numbers. The lower they go, the more pressure there is on Blue Dogs to kill the bill. Make sure they know it.
Dude, The One’s first term is now … totally wee-wee’d.

Exactly, GBA.
I won’t be the least bit surprised to see man bite dog, and the leftists suddenly overwhelmed by the need to pass “tort reform” because “this is what is needed for truly bipartisan healthcare reform”, and somehow find the Trial Liars Association supporting “this tough but necessary concession”, which will turn out to be complete and total BS.

Okay, I wonder if this is the Zogby poll I received via email and took last night? I do have a concern about the Independents that are mentioned–that was the selection I made. I wish I could remember the exact language, but I think it asked if I was a registered Republican (no), registered Democrat (hell no), and then the next category was Independent/Unaffiliated and it may have said something else, too. I chose the unaffiliated option which also happens to be Independent. So, while I am not somebody who would vote for a Dem (especially not for US Congress or President), my results of strong disapproval with Obama get categorized as if I am an Independent who can be swayed–maybe, though, I was an anomaly and most people who responded are what we consider true Independents. While I am happy to see these poll results, I think the value of this poll is that it confirms the trend we are seeing, but that’s about it.
reallyfive on August 20, 2009 at 10:54 PM

Conservatives don’t have to “give you anything”. Dems have the votes. You mean, after months of “WE WON!!! YEAH, BABY!!! EAT IT, CONS!!!” and controlling both houses of Congress as well as the White House, you have to rely on “compromise” with conservatives? Gutless. The libs just don’t want to take responsibility for their garbage.

I can’t figure him out. I don’t agree that he’s arrogant. Maybe sometimes, like with the “get out of the way” remark, but then again that could have just been political play. I certainly don’t agree with people who say that he’s a great speech maker. People on both the left and the right have said that. I can see right through his “pretty words” and cringe every time I heard him speak about “seas parting” and such. It sounds like a high school creative writing class. Get real Obama, please. I majored in Literature in college and wrote better stuff than that. Too much flowery speech doesn’t create a mandate for healthcare, now does it?

I’m sure those 55% are all just a bunch of racist rightwing nazi’s. They all get their daily talking points from Rush Limbaugh during the afternoons. At night they put on their Brooks Brothers suits, and scream at townhalls. Usually bringing their assault weapons. Then the next morning they cash in their checks from the RNC and health insurers.
I’m sure that 55% are just the fringe right wingers. If only all those Blue Dog Democrats would just listen so they could cram this sucker down everyone’s throat…then they’d really be cooking!
In January, the theme was that the republicans were completely irrelevant and without a leader. Just about half a year later, they are responsible for killing progress in Washington. Amazing how things change. Don’t blink!

Obama came out today strongly in favor of public option. Personally, I think he had to take a stand.
I also am in favor of public option, and I think it would benefit small business.
I also believe that Republicans aren’t offering much to business these days. They seem mired down and not about real people. It’s all ideology. That may be why they are losing support.

Peter Seller’s made a movie where he was an idiot, all the smart politicians thought he was a genius.they would ask him a question and any answer he gave the press was perfect according to them. They were going to run him for president.
That is Obama in a nut shell. the man is an idiot, but no one on the democratic side wants to be the one to call him on it.
BruceB on August 21, 2009 at 1:11 AM
Here are the results of Zogby’s 3 last polls including tonights:
7/24 8/5 8/20
F UF F UF F UF
OBAMA
OVERALL 48 49 53 38 45.3 50.5
REP 6 16 5.7
INDIES 40 52 37.5
Clearly Zogby uses a special kind of ‘sauce’. His fluctuations especially in the indie F/UF are outrageous in how wild the swings are.
Having said that I think this poll does debunk the findings of the PPP poll, also released today, which shows Obama still sitting pretty and also with a 14 point lead over a matchup with Palin which I am beginning to believe now is completely bogus especially with an 18% oversampling of post-grads (35% of poll is post grads, while only 17% voted in Nov 2008 according to exit polls).

So the Democrats put a man whose resume was absolutely devoid of any executive experience whatsoever in the highest executive position in the land: what could go wrong?
Predictably:
1. Congress is off scribbling graffiti on the Constitution without any adult supervision.
2. Department heads and even Cabinet members are off “doing their thing” without any guidance…frequently expressing ideas which publicly embarrass the White House.
3. There is no mechanism for filtering impractical, counterproductive, or harmful legislative or administrative SPAM out of the system. Consequently a lot of what is being attempted is completely impractical, unworkable, unacceptable to the public, or otherwise doomed to failure.
4. The chief executive, having no practical experience in doing anything, is completely unable to articulate a guiding philosophy which everyone (including the general population) can salute and which can be used to guide decisions and action; is completely unable to define how to measure progress; and is totally incapable of changing direction to avoid problems. This guarantees continuing chaos, as nobody in government can know what they are expected to do. Nobody has any idea where the ship of state is headed, and nobody will steer around the iceberg anyway because to change direction would be an admission that they were wrong.
Result: CARTER II: Shoot yourself in the foot, and then shoot your other foot.
landlines on August 21, 2009 at 1:34 AM
Excellent. I’d add only this, “And they like it like that.”
I believe that all of this chaos only serves their purposes. I have tried to understand how anyone could do/say what they are, perpetually, and it only makes sense that they seek no real “solution” and tumult helps them, ultimately. It’s either that or the whole lot of them have peas for brains. I tend to believe there is more ideology behind the madness, at least for a few of them.
