Oh my: Obama down to 45% approval in new Zogby poll
posted at 9:00 pm on August 20, 2009 by Allahpundit
I remember back in the day when “Zogby” used to be a curse word among conservative bloggers. Change:
Asked whether they approve or disapprove of the president’s job performance, just 45.3 percent of likely voters say they approve. That compares with 50.5 percent who disapprove of the job Obama is doing.
The results are a strong indication that contentious national debate over healthcare reform has taken a major toll on the president’s popularity…
Of greatest concern to Obama may well be his decline among all-important independent voters. Just 37.5 percent of self-identified independents say they approve of how Obama is handling the presidency. That compares with 59.2 percent of independents who disapprove…
Continued evidence of declining popularity there will ratchet up the pressure on congressional blue dogs and other conservative Democrats to go their own way on controversial proposals such as public-option healthcare and energy cap-and-trade, knowing they can’t rely on presidential coattails to prop them up with voters.
Quite so, which is why any righty blogger with any kind of audience should be trumpeting Obama’s declining numbers. The lower they go, the more pressure there is on Blue Dogs to kill the bill. Make sure they know it.
Dude, The One’s first term is now … totally wee-wee’d.

BTW, I don’t see this change lasting long… people don’t trust the republicans either…
The people are tired of both the corporate and government elites… they want small government egalitarianism… they want a social net so that people get by but they don’t want to be dictated by the government… if the republicans want to win they need to go hardcore towards focusing on individual empowerment… they need to embrace spreading the wealth and community organizing…

Hera on August 20, 2009 at 9:08 PM
Realistically, what in the world could anyone point to in Obama’s first 6 months to “approve” of? Stimulus, cash for clunkers, health care, Afghanistan, everything SoS Clinton has said/done — the failures are just piling one on top of the other. Then, he compounds his failure of leadership by calling 2/3 of the country ignorant racists. Turns out the presidency actually does require a certain skill set. Turns out Obama doesn’t have it.
Rational Thought on August 20, 2009 at 9:09 PM
He may have won, as he so delightedly likes to remind anyone who doesn’t share his ideology, but man, is he ever a loser. The training wheels are falling off his presidency faster than he can (back)pedal.
ProfessorMiao on August 20, 2009 at 9:09 PM
What is he talking about? I really have no idea what “wee wee’d” means (in this context anyway).
Also, WTF is wrong with you America? Why couldn’t you have paid attention and formed your current opinion about this SOB last November? Are there really that many millions of idiots who thought “Eh, let’s try the black guy, that makes us feel so progressive.”?
BTW, America, I feel I need to keep reminding you… This guy’s policies aren’t just “failing”. This POS is pure evil and hates everything about this country, and all of these “failures” are by design.
Oh, one other thing if you haven’t figured it out already – You know how we’ve only spent 10% of the $787 billion “emergency” stimulus? That’s because he’s going to need to flood the country with those bogus borrowed dollars when the 2012 election cycle gets going. People who may think my word “evil” is over the top needn’t look any further than this simple stimulus spending fact. What other word do you use to describe an anti-American socialist who is stealing trillions from future generations to buy his reelection?

I mean if they are coving for the Liberal/Left/Progressive/Socialist side of things and he has this sort of numbers, then what are the real ones, un-inflated?
I’ll wait for Rasmussen… but Pew has an interesting set of numbers on ‘Would Medicare pass today?’

I don’t think that can be said but I must admit I am goofing on it current course. Keep up the pressure folks.
Cindy Munford on August 20, 2009 at 9:11 PM
Rasmussen’s had him between 48-51% for weeks and Gallup shows him declining steadily to the low 50′s. So they’re not far off from Zogby. Hell, even the NBC polls are bad and they’re oversampling Dems while surveying adults as opposed to registered or likely voters.
Doughboy on August 20, 2009 at 9:11 PM
The only way Obama’s poll numbers can go up would be a national televised broadcast:
“My fellow Americans, tonight I am offering my resignation as President of the United States effective midnight tonight…I offer my sincere apologies to the American people. I was not, am not, qualified to serve any longer as your President….”
The resounding applause across America would be earth shattering.
coldwarrior on August 20, 2009 at 9:12 PM
Actually, I think Pelosi and Reid tried to time it to ensure Democrats’ success in 2010. But either way, the ‘stimulus’ was a boondoggle. The only good thing about it is that it looks to be coming back to bite them all on the a$$.
ProfessorMiao on August 20, 2009 at 9:12 PM
Of course it still is. Zogby may be a crummy pollster but now he’s our crummy pollster.
Dusty on August 20, 2009 at 9:12 PM
Whites’ biggest fear is probably being called “racist”, likely more so than being accused of being a pedophile. So, they looked for a way to absolve themselves of the guilt of racism committed by others before them and Obama was there. “Perfect” timing. Hopefully, this is the end of it. At some point, whites have to stop feeling guilty.
LastRick on August 20, 2009 at 9:13 PM
Don’t mean to pee in the Cheerios here, but I just want to note that these will go back up when something eventually passes.
A lot of this is Democrat frustration at his inability to get something – anything – resembling the public plan (which, after all, is what most liberal Democrats want and what Obama has admitted to supporting) into the bill with supermajorities in both houses and a lock on the WH.
It won’t go back up much, but it will go back up.
Once the foot is in the door, they will keep trying to add to it.

It isn’t the contentious national debate. It is the PROLONGED national debate that increasingly has the filthy liar in the White House asserting that the people’s voice doesn’t matter.
The filthy liar appears to be correct in his assessment that his Presidency is over if healthcare wasn’t rammed through before the August recess.

I guess the world has come to an end now that conservatives are now referencing the zogby poll.
Off topic, why can’t conservatives compromise on anything? We all know there has to be some government involved in a critical program like health care.We already compromised by giving up the single payer.
Why don’t you just give us our public option and you guys add all your fluffy interstate and tort reform rules to the existing plan.

There is a tipping point. At some point the President cannot rise above his low poll numbers. We are not there yet and the media is doing it’s damndest to keep them up but the filthy liar in the White House cannot be below 50% for very long before damage is done.
Let’s keep this in perspective. The filthy liar is only 8 months into his term of office and already more Americans disapprove of his actions than approve. Gonna be a long four years.

I’ve been polled online by Zogby for almost ten years. I am identified as “very conservative” and “republican”. Since the election, I have yet to get a survey on my opinion of Obama.
I have been getting surveys on my shopping habits, name recognition of business leaders, but nothing on Obama. Yet, in the past 9 years, I had been polled steadily on my opinion of George W. Bush.
They don’t want my opinion on Obama, apparently.
