Dobbs: Where are the jobs, Mr. President?

posted at 5:55 pm on August 20, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Notice that this segment from Lou Dobbs came last night, before today’s announcement that unemployment increased yet again last week. Dobbs has been the most skeptical CNN host of HopeandChangeTM, but even with that in mind, this segment uses almost 5 minutes to hammer the White House on its broken promises on jobs and unemployment. That’s a pretty extraordinary scolding for CNN, and it suggests that the media may have reached its limit on ignoring the obvious:

The town-hall outrage this month may have sent a message to more than just Congress. Suddenly, it’s quite obvious that a wide swath of America has no confidence in Barack Obama’s competence, especially on fiscal issues as well as health care. The uptick in unemployment undermines Obama’s leadership and Democrats in general on the Porkulus bill, for which we still have hundreds of billions of dollars in commitments. That anger may have taken the media by surprise — and Dobbs may not be the last to lash out at a bumbling and expensive White House and Congress.

How many jobs were created in the health care industry? When Obama pledges to cut Medicare to help pay for this ‘new’ program, what does he think that will do to the job creation in the only industry that is currently creating jobs?

What the Democrats fail to see, is that the majority of the country no longer cares what they have to say.

Everything they said about the stimulus was untrue. It fell flat on its face and the president won’t even acknowledge that fact, still calling it a success.

He’s following many of the same policies he demonized President Bush for, during the campaign.

So in short, who cares what Democrats claim about this health care reform Bill?

If you can’t trust an individual or an organization, dialog with them is a waste of time?

If Democrats are tired of getting screamed at in Town Halls, perhaps they should stop lying to the American people.

Neal Boortz suggests the possibility of the Cloward-Piven plan in action (link).

Summary:

The strategy of forcing political change through orchestrated crisis. The “Cloward-Piven Strategy” seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.

Overload the “system” and cause a crisis leading to revolutionary change.

Too Machiavellian for my tastes and involves too many people to pull off. Think JFK assassination times 100.

What business would dare expand unemployment when the glue-sniffing juvenile delinquents in the Obama “administration” are in charge?

The Democrats regularly demonize private businesses. You have clowns like Henry Waxman investigating and interfering with half of the businesses in America.

Small businesses are standing by to see their taxes skyrocket.

And who the hell knows day to day what the far-left lunatics in Congress are going to do next, with anything?

Obama has no idea what it takes to run a private business. Neither does most of the worthless, corrupt and incompetent lawyers in Congress.

Oh, well, that should be a comfort to the millions of unemployed Americans and growing. It should be a comfort to the people behind the 576,000 initial unemployment claims filed this week, which was 26,000 higher than analysts expected.

The Dow Jones was at 8,279 on Obama’s inauguration day. It closed at 9,350.05 today. So for the trillions we’ve spent and months that’ve gone by, we have a Dow about 1,000 points higher….for now.

We also have an unemployment rate the White House expects to soon hit double-digits, a dwindling workforce, retail sales down once again, initial unemployment claims coming in significantly higher than analyst predictions, and we’re talking about a $2 trillion deficit.

Thank you, Obama. Please stop helping.

Incidentally, I remember a time when liberals were brushing off a 14,000-point Dow under Bush because it was Wall Street getting rich. We were told that it didn’t matter because Main Street was still suffering, though it wasn’t. What happened to those days?

Personally, I find no evidence of this.

The liberal/statist argument is more of a self-perpetual government machine. That is, if a program fails then a new program must be enacted to “fix” those failures. Government, then, continually ratchets up, never ratchets down.

Very little of the stimulus has been spent, of what has been spent Biden has confessed has had large amounts of waste, the and the Dow Jones was seeing a recovery before the stimulus even passed.

Even if we were to accept their premise that the stimulus has been responsible for the Dow recovery, as well as ignore the fact that they’ve never cared about the Dow’s status before: The Dow Jones has gained about a thousand points. Think about how much each point cost us for a $787 billion package.

Yes, it magically recovered, just like all the other times it magically spiked or magically dipped, because the stock market is only affected by who is in office.

I don’t know how big of a factor it is but some employers are now only hiring part time employees because if they have to lay them off their unemployment is charged to their previous full time employee.
