Video: Michelle nukes Axelrod over conflict of interest on pharmaceutical money

posted at 10:26 pm on August 19, 2009 by Allahpundit

Number one on the NYT bestseller list again this week — although frankly, she has an unfair advantage. How are other nonfiction writers supposed to compete when she’s got news stories bolstering her thesis breaking every day?

How many new epilogues is this book going to get before she’s done with it? Thirty?

Good call- Obama has bought out the AARP. And it was the Democratic Party that gave big pharma the Prescription Drug bill for seniors that prevents the government from negotiating drug prices with pharmaceutical companies.

It’s kind of crazy to go after Obama this way when under the previous administration there was repeated evidence of corporate lobbyists literally writing environmental, health care, and other legislation- with no objections ever raised by this woman.

I don’t read her blog but I do see her quoted on HotAir quote often. Well, if big pharma gets a great deal out of this legislation, then her points will have the credibility that’s now lacking. After all, there’s no question that pharma companies are part of the health cost problem (out of control marketing / sales reps costs that exceed R&D).

“Even if these are obvious bedfellows and kind of standard PR maneuvers, it still stands to undercut Obama’s credibility,” Krumholz said. “The potential takeaway from the public is ‘friends in cahoots to engineer a grass roots result.’”
White House spokesman Ben LaBolt said that Axelrod has had no communications with Healthy Economy Now or with Americans for Stable Quality Care, and his payments aren’t affected by the ad contracts. Axelrod’s son, a salaried AKPD employee, doesn’t work with either coalition “or stand to benefit from that work,” LaBolt said.
“David Axelrod has fully complied with the toughest-ever ethics rules for administration officials, including divesting from AKPD before the administration began,” LaBolt said.

I just read this on Drudge and nearly gagged on my drink when I got to the part in bold italics.

Seven Percent Solution on August 20, 2009 at 12:05 AM

Over at powerlineblog, commenter Peter Williams adds this information to the mix re Axelrod’s PR machine:

It’s interesting to note that there are two firms AKPD and ASK Public Strategies that share the same address. Both were Axelrod’s inventions, but it’s interesting to note the other major player who has remained below the radar: John Kupper – the “K” in both. John had a role to play in writing both Obama’s 2004 convention speech and his book “The Audacity of Hope”. Given Obama’s ability (or lack thereof) to speak off-teleprompter, it’s reasonable to assume that Kupper had a very large role in both.

These firms were largely an outgrowth of Chicago Democrat politics (read: Mayor Daley’s empire) and have profited handsomely from the “pay-to-play” mechanism that is at the root of much Illinois political corruption. The list of clients that have found it convenient to hire such a politically connected firm is lengthy.

They deserve to have a little sunlight directed their way.

This is not good for Axelrod. In a fair political world he would be stepping down by the end of the week.

This is a corrupt and dirty Chicago style administration that feels it is above the law and the Constitution, and with the MSM in tow I doubt this story gets the coverage or complete investigation it deserves.

I LOVE MICHELLE, but I have one lingering voice in my head that says that in this interview she almost sounds exactly like the Halliburton/Cheney kooks who would not shut up for the past 8 1/2 years. Is there any other way to present the information without it sounding so conspiratorial? Seriously, someone help me out here. How do we get past the conspiracies to the meat of the matter? I am not saying what she said to Hannity is not true, but I can see my mom watching that and dismissing it as conspiratorial prattle. Ummm, I don’t think so. Michelle does sound upset, and rightly so. Who knows better than she what lengths this admin has gone to–the very one who promised the hope, change and transparency?

I’m leery of the whiff of “turn down the rhetoric”. I’m not aadvocating being obnoxious (which Michelle is not), but conservatives are too often reticent, soft-spoken, etc. This is not the time for slander or shouting, but it IS time for no-holes-barred, in-your-face TRUTH. And Michelle delivers it wonderfully.

I am more concerned about the implications of the Obama Administration extending a Two Billion Dollar loan guarantee to the Brazillion oil drilling company that George Soros dropped 800 million in.
