Video: Barney Frank town hall on health care goes pretty much as expected

posted at 10:04 pm on August 18, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via JWF, a treat while we wait for that NYT bombshell to burst. Hannity culled the best soundbites of Frank displaying the special charm for which he’s so well known and loathed, but you’re cheating yourself if you don’t watch this, too. The crack about how arguing with the “Obama = Hitler” crowd is like arguing with furniture is worth the price of admission.

He’s a real Control Freak Man
Ruling in what he wants to be a hostage held land
Making all his controlling plans
For everybody

Doesn’t listen to an opposing point of view
Control Freak man, ruling all he thinks is his purview
Control Freak Man, he had better listen
He don’t know with what he’s messin’
Knows already just what he wants to do
Doesn’t he seem a lot like Hitler and Mussolini to you?

He’s a real Control Freak Man
Ruling in what he wants to be a hostage held land
Making all his controlling plans
For everybody

He’s as blinded by his lust for power as he can be
Just sees what he wants to see
He’s got such a God complex point of call
Control Freak Man can you even see America at all?
Knows already just what he wants to do
Doesn’t he seem a lot like Hitler and Mussolini to you?

He’s a real Control Freak Man
Ruling in what he wants to be a hostage held land
Making all his controlling plans
For everybody

About Control Freak Man we should all worry
To destroy all America built he is in a hurry
If he controls everything his fascist way
It will be a forlorn day
Hes going to leave it all a mess
Anyone of sound mind must confess

He’s a real Control Freak Man
Ruling in what he wants to be a hostage held land
Making all his controlling plans
For everybody

I just came from a townhall meeting our State Rep. Tom McMillin (r) put on becasue our Congressman, Gary Peters (D) is in hiding. Standing room only, about 600 attended, where only about 20 supported H.R 3200. There was a panel of physicians to answer questions. It was a good setting for people to vent! One episode of booing when young man supporter said we should read the bill. Loudest applause and standing ovation was when someone stated we should not have to pay for abortions.

Bishop on August 18, 2009 at 10:35 PM

You’re right, but I also see the sense of the comment upthread that this was a tactica provocation.

Barney does that “I’m a pit-bull” thing so often (remember how Fannie and Freddie got to be Bush’s fault?) that they now trot him out like a character actor.

massrighty on August 18, 2009 at 10:39 PM

This may be an attempt to force the Republicans into a lose-lose situation. This is because though there may be other defense strategies to reconciliation, the frequently cited counter is to threaten to bring the entire apparatus to a halt. Perhaps, then, this is an attempt to recreate the shutdown of 1995-6, with the Republicans once again placed in the role of petty obstructionists who are pilloried.

It will not work this time, for reasons that will become clear if it is attempted.

It will also stray far too close to the line where “interesting times” start off from. The credibility of the political class in America is not what it was in 1994. The people are against this plan. In that sense, the opposition of the GOP is merely incidental to their own sense of what should happen. Tarring the GOP as obstructionists if they oppose what the people oppose will not work, for the people will not be with you. The media can only carry so much water, and James Carville can predict the future only so much.

Allow me to humbly suggest that perhaps Democrats should rely on the power to persuade instead of the power of changing rules when inconvenient, lest one get the idea that the rules are never going to be allowed to benefit one side in a debate, only the other. There is, after all, something of a belief out there that the Democratic party is the one that can never seem to do anything but take its bat and go home if the rules aren’t changed to allow it to win.

It could also cause one to get the idea that the people who always pride themselves on their superior intellects cannot use that brain power to make a logical and self-evident case about the benefits of a program they have deemed wise. Which would then give one the idea that they are not superior in intellect, but in arrogance, and in that only.

That’s pretty much the definition of “conversation” to Democrats.

They pretend to listen to you and say “that’s an excellent point” and “I feel your pain” and “I’m glad you asked that” while talking on their cell phone.

Then they tell you what to think and you agree. If you don’t you’re a racist Nazi hick partisan shill.

Barney Frank is one of the key factors that caused the global economic meltdown by pushing through a social engineering program to give loans to people who could not afford them, then having the government buy up the notes, then sell them on wall street all over the world through Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac that festered for over twenty years until the United States Tax payer was left on the hook for Trillions of bad debt…………….

….. Now he wants to be in charge of giving you a rectal exam, before his next proposal.

Government funded rental properties………..

…….. It just amazes me that the damage that has be done to this country once our ‘Free and Independent’ press decided to take sides.

And he treats voters with contempt…….

…….. Why is he still in power and not in a damp, dark cell somewhere screaming for forgiveness?

Typical leftwing bullshit. Silence the people’s microphones after they ask a question so they can’t interrupt the lies and drivel he spews in response and then ridicule the crowd for laughing and shouting. The only way a liberal can ‘win’ an argument is by being the only person with a mic.

This is exactly why Obama wouldn’t do townhall style debates against McCain; liberals are unable to win a legitimate, even-handed debate.

And yes I live in the state with the clowns who keep electing this lying Communist. I understand that the people who vote for him deserve this, but what have I done to deserve this? They should have nuked Woodstock when they had the chance.

Geochelone on August 18, 2009 at 11:24 PM

I saw this at JammieWearingFool:

More than 500 people showed up Tuesday night, with some shouting and booing as Frank spoke at the meeting organized by the Democratic Town Committee of Dartmouth. At least a dozen protesters gathered in small groups outside the venue.

The health care overhaul has generated controversy among Democrats and near unanimous opposition among Republicans.

Frank blamed the war on Iraq for draining resources that could finance reforms.

Dartmouth Democratic party officials said people from as far as Martha’s Vineyard, Boston and western Massachusetts planned to attend the meeting.

I am so sick of this crap. The Democrats are running the show now, if they want to abandon Iraq and or Afghanistan, they can. The cowards. They just lie all the time.
