Quote of the day
posted at 10:40 pm on August 18, 2009 by Allahpundit
“Suggestions (but don’t just copy the text, originality is more effective):
Be respectful and calm-NO ANGER. Do not use words like ‘socialist’ or ‘communist’ or other inflamed rhetoric… Tell them that you are a loyal Beck listener and take great offense to their pulling their ads in response to the form emails of activists and college kids they hired to create a false impression that they are a majority. You want to continue to support [their] company, but if they boycott Glenn Beck, your family will boycott [them].”

Did you have Mommy issues?
What’s lame is your self-righteous, better-than-you style of posting. You must have a rather high opinion of yourself. Congratulations.
Say what you will about Beck, he was the first widely known figure to predict the present economic situation, much to the amusement of many.
He is sometimes abrasive, often quirky if not downright wacky, but his unique style has gotten his musings an enormous amount of exposure.
Look down your nose at him, as you do with most of us, at your peril. Try reading his book, Common Sense, without any preconceptions at the onset. You might be surprised.
He is no master of prose, but on the other hand neither is he the buffoon whom he portrays and others dismiss.
He was right about the economy. He is right about ACORN and SEIU, right about the sham that is cap & tax, and he is right about The Jug-eared One.
So have at it, Einstein.

God apparently Beck has even more viewers at 5PM than MSNBC and CNN at their most lucrative 8PM, 9PM or 10PM slots! There’s almost certainly a quantifiable opportunity loss associated with NOT advertising on that show.
Forget appealing to some advertiser’s decency, appeal to their stockholders.

The article you cited has several errors in it.
Uhm the ACTUAL number is 3, not 20.
BTW explain this if you can.
Why has Oprah Winfrey BOUGHT ad time AFTER the boycott of Glenn Beck?
Yep, as soon as a spot was opened up Oprah Winfrey BOUGHT the ad spot?
The boycott is allegedly about Beck saying President Obama a racist who has a “deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture.”
And Oprah Winfrey buys time on Beck’s show?

That’s a great idea! You will really show Glenn Beck by forcing someone who’s paid like $7/hr and gets treated terribly by yelling idiots to restock all of your crap which you left there for no good reason except to make a statement. That’s just wonderful. I’m sure that clerk will realize it’s Proctor and Gamble stuff and report it immediately to Fox News.
Also, you are the dumbest person on the planet.

Sent to Wal-Mart yesterday. Keep it cool and smooth.
Sir/Madam:
You have exercised your option to suspend your sponsorship of the Glenn Beck program on the Fox News Channel.
I could understand your concern if Mr. Beck was espousing some radical agenda, or advocating violent overthrow of the government, but I haven’t heard him say anything that was not rational, true and/or provable.
That being said, I would like you to know that I now plan to exercise my option and patronize only locally owned and operated grocery, clothing and hardware stores.
Sincerely yours,
Mr. Grump on August 19, 2009 at 7:36 AM
Wait, what? That doesn’t make any sense. Oh wait, it’s from the guy that thought he would get back at Proctor & Gamble by pulling product off the shelves, putting it in a cart, and leaving the Wal-Mart. Because the store clerks are definitely going to notice that and report it to the Proctor & Gamble CEO.
Have you ever worked in retail or any kind of service job? Do you have any idea how annoying that stuff is? You’re just creating more work, you’re not making a statement. Seriously, that idea might be the stupidest thing ever written on the internet. Congrats?
Proud Rino on August 19, 2009 at 7:38 AM

If the White House directed (Green Jobs Tzar) Van Jones (a self proclaimed communist) and his Color of Change (founded by Van Jones) are successful with Beck, they will move on to other Fox hosts – Fox will then become CNN with a different name; next up AM talk – then we will be back to the 50s with lots of music stations, farm reports, and so on.
All news will be reported the same way by nearly identically looking people and the identical story words be approved by Team Obama.
Just stating the obvious. Finally all dissent will be silenced and the US will be at peace again. RIP.

Why are boycotts lame??? I have never understood that reasoning. I know even Rush thinks they are lame,, but it is my money.
I used to love diet pepsi, but I can not stomach handing my money over to a company that said America is the middle finger of the world. I do not go to movies where the stars are famous for saying how my values suck.
I spend my money on products and services I like, as well as in businesses that show their appreciation for my patronage. Why is it somehow noble to give my money to businesses that openly disrespect me, my family and my values??
Would you do that in any other area of your life??? If the neighbors kids on the left always spit on your property, keyed your car and kicked your dog day after day while the neighbor’s kids on the right side of your house were friendly, respectful and courteous,,, then one day they both opened a lemonade stand out in front of their houses,,, who would you buy from??? Who would you encourage??

indypat on August 19, 2009 at 8:11 AM
While I’m not a huge Beck fan (his style is a little too much for me; I much prefer Neil Cavuto with his business slant), I do watch on occasion. He makes some very valid points and does a great job of illustrating the interconnectedness of the union-based groups doing the
thuggerycommunity organizing work of the present administration. It really bothers me that the word “socialism” is considered inflammatory rhetoric. There are many flavors of socialism and I have become fairly well-versed in recognizing them. Ultimately, the aim of any variant of socialism is government control of the “means of production”… and if the Waxman/Markey Bill is not precisely that (regulating, taxing, and in every way CONTROLLING the very energy needed for production!), then I am a horse’s arse. Obama, along with many, many others in Washington (including some Republicans), are indeed socialists. They believe in a planned society in which the federal government acts as our benevolent steward to protect us from our stupid selves.
Maybe people need to be educated as to what socialism really is. I know that those who espouse socialist ideas should be more forthcoming about it rather than denying it and using their influence to make the very word “socialism” off limits. But, then again, that is what socialists do.

This is typical douche baggery from the loony left. You do not understand capitalism at the most basic level. Those people are less financially well off than most people. Advertisers put their ads on shows that have the audience that will purchase their product. The considerations are demographics and the means to purchase their product.
Simply peruse the list on this site and you’ll be faced with the stupidity of the liberal world you choose to live in.
Shut ins and the unemployed do not buy cars or insurance. And they certainly do not invest in the stock market either. There is nothing in common with the three types of consumer you listed except for the fact they have less purchasing power than many other demographics. Look at the ratings on that same link and you’ll see that on a Friday night, Beck is the #2 show. Second only to Bill O.
It’s a sad day when people like you have somehow made it through the education system. You are such an ignorant fool, it’s hard to understand how you even function in society without a personal handler to take care of your everyday dealings with educated people.

Would that be the same Ron Paul that is now being proven right by the economic downfall? The same Ron Paul that predicted the housing bubble 4 years ago? The same Ron Paul that has continuously advised quite accurately of upcoming economic events and how to avoid them, only to have Republicans and Dimwitocrats ignore him? That Ron Paul?
Thanks EMR, but I prefer to have our “fringy” guys versus their fringy guys. At least ours are intelligent and can actually make a learned analysis of a situation without going all “Olberman” on it. Ron Paul has gotten more people interested in politics and economic conservativism in the last 3 years than anyone I can think of in the “mainstream” Republican party, minus maybe Sarah Palin but even that is a little doubtful.
Stop attacking Paul long enough to really read what he’s saying and you’ll realize that the guy is spot on for a lot of things. Others, eh, he’s nowhere near, but I guarantee if you’re a true conservative you’ll agree with him on more things than you agreed with McCain, and you voted for that clown last November.

The townhall was a complete phony-fabricated campaign speech. Obama gave a lengthy speech followed by around 6-7 questions from the audience, most of which were delivered by Obama operatives.
Out on the streets, it was a thing of beauty. I’m guessing at 2-3 thousand people from all walks of life, great energy and enthusiasm. Democrats standing with Republicans protesting big brother. Twas a great day spent in a beautiful city in the mountains of Montana.

Simple-minded statements (snicker) like that indicate just another Astro-turfing Pelosinista.
I’ll tell you who are the majority of Rush’s listeners. They are sales reps. Sales reps who are on the road every day, making sales calls on businesses. Sales reps are the ultimate capitalists – there is no guesswork as to what their work is worth. If they make a lot of sales, they make a lot of money….and vice versa.
That’s why every single sales rep I ever met has been a Republican or even a Libertarian. Of course, they’re all Conservative. There are millions of sales reps on the road every day and as they call on their clients politics inevitably comes up and you cane be sure they are passing along the Limbaugh Message to beleagured business owners.
So instead of being a s***-stirring troll over here why not
hang out with your buds over at SEIU or ACORN? Even though we have a big tent we still don’t let the circus animals inside.

My note to GEICO and my non-reply reply:
Our current GEICO bill is due 8/23. Last week, GEICO announced a boycott of the Glenn Beck program on Fox News. I would like to take a moment to thank you for the timing of your decision as it gave us an opportunity to find another insurance carrier. Last night, we paid for 6 months of car insurance with another provider, so sadly, this is the end of our relationship with GEICO. We’ve been pleased with your service and we are not even big Glenn Beck fans. In fact, we don’t have cable/dish TV. However, we have reviewed the comments that supposedly sparked this boycott. Beck’s words do not advocate illegal or dangerous behavior nor did he wish ill on anyone, though his opinion may be disagreeable to some. The answer to speech is more speech, not suppression of speech. I wish our relationship hadn’t ended this way, but we will not support a company that kowtows to extremist groups out to stifle political speech.
***
Dear ***
We are sorry to hear that you are considering leaving the GEICO family.
We want to ensure that we are offering you the highest level of service at the lowest premiums for which your policy qualifies. In order for us to assist you with this request, please call us at 1-800-841-3000 to speak with one of our licensed insurance agents. We are available to assist you at this toll free number 24 hours a day.
In reference to the Glenn Beck Show, thank you, first of all for your business and also for your interest in this matter.
This week we took action to move our marketing messages from the Glenn Beck show and you are wondering why.
Well you deserve an answer.
If the inflammatory nature of the comments on a program overshadows our message and causes GEICO to be drawn into a national debate, we are likely to reconsider where we place our marketing messages, which is what we did.
GEICO delivers very important messages through its major marketing campaigns: we?re saving customers? dollars, we?re easy to do business with, we?re looking out for our policyholders. That?s what we hope the public hears and sees and focuses on.
As a company, we do not take positions on controversial issues.
As an advertiser, while a national debate on issues can be healthy and appropriate, we don?t see ourselves in the role of taking part in those debates.
Our business is auto insurance. We want to bring people value and we attempt to reach large audiences with that message.
It is of little benefit to us if a program gets so much attention that our message is drowned out.
We appreciate your business and thank you for giving us the opportunity to review your policy.

Sent to CVS/Caremark just now:
Dear CVS/Caremark
I am organizing a boycott of CVS among my family and my community. You need to realize that the recent CVS response to the political pressure group “ColorOfChange” is an unacceptable attack upon Glenn Beck and is one of the worst of the corporate responses:
In condemning Glenn Beck, CVS has thrust itself into the center of this controversy. It has been well-documented during and since the Bush administration that commentary appearing on MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, Comedy Central, BET, MTV, and even NICK has been anything but “informed, inclusive and respectful”. And I am not just talking about shows with vicious political commentary characters like ABC’s The View and Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart. I am also talking about David Letterman and the cast of CBS’s 60 minutes. And what about the “comedy” shows with their crude sexual innuendo and the biased “documentaries” appearing not only on the Big Three networks but also in endless reruns on Cable Television? What about the vicious editorials that appear in print media and on their websites? Is Glenn Beck to be held up as an example amid the racist, slanderous and truly offensive content that permeates the editorial pages of newspapers where you insert your circulars every week? I think not!
The CVS position is an attack upon the free speech and open dialogue that characterize a free society. Rest assured that our action will be effective and lasting, and that your company will suffer on a nationwide basis for a very long time.

That be you yes?
The article listed all the sponsors, 53 at the time. Since then 4 more have been ADDED! Not removed!
Including Oprah Winfrey!
The NET effect of this boycott has INCREASED sponsors for Beck’s show and Fox in general.
LOL, ROFLMAO!
