Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on August 18, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Greg Hengler at Townhall revisits Barack Obama’s greenhouse — you know, a town-hall forum full of plants — to notice yet another entry in his “1 speech, 2 faces” series.  In this sequence, Barack Obama says that his ObamaCare legislation won’t get involved in treatment decisions between you and your doctor.  Of course, at the same time, Obama wants to protect you from Tonsil Vultures and Foot Rustlers:

This is a contradiction that has flown a little under the radar while other more obvious issues with Obama and his health-care reform get more focus. The entire program consists of putting government in charge of those decisions through funding incentives and “comparative effectiveness,” which is the reason Obama wants to scare people into believing that Tonsil Vultures and Foot Rustlers exist — but has to mollify other people by assuring them that the same Tonsil Vultures and Foot Rustlers will remain in charge of their medical care.

Maybe we should just send Obama a copy of Night of the Living Dead to get it out of his system.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

MEMO

TO: B-List Leading Actors

Gentlemen, get ready. This could be your lucky day. The babes at HotAir are going giddy over you.

P.S. Don’t mention your love for Obama. Not cool with these chicks.

Are you drinking rum again?

ladyingray on August 18, 2009 at 9:54 AM

I woke up cheerful this morning for the first time since birth. I should probably get that checked out.

TXMomof3 on August 18, 2009 at 8:45 AM

Try not to do that. I had the same thing Saturday. The day went downhill so fast I got whiplash.
Go with gloomy and cranky. That way everything is a nice surprise.

BB may have gotten hold of some of that Southside Chi-Town crack that B-HO left behind.

Brilliant advise, as always. Much of the good mood has dissipated.

Got no problem with the chick chat. Kinda fun to listen in. Amost like watching The View, without the troubling imagery.

Imagine if the first black President were not a liar and a socialist, one who thought of the Constitution more than Rules for Radicals, who actually wanted transparency, curbed the earmarks, sought to abolish fraud rather than foster it, encouraged honest and open debate and used his power to clean up Washington. Imagine if he were a man of integrity as well as class. Imagine how this country would have been united. Imagine the good that could have come from it. Imagine how much better off we all would be. Sigh….

If through the primaries and the general election more people who voted for Obama would have voted for content of character instead of color of skin…

And they call us racist?

What a racist thing to say.

Every time I watch that video, it infuriates and disgusts me. That slam on MD’s and surgeons was so over the top.

What an incredible idiot.

I loathe that man.

It could have been really, really awesome.

That was the dream that a good many Americans had when they pulled that lever in the voting booth.

It was going to be like magic. We knew better but there was no telling the children who wanted to wish hope and change into existence.

keebs on August 18, 2009 at 10:39 AM

He could read from the telephone book and they would swoon.

Barb Dwyer on August 18, 2009 at 8:37 AM

At least he wouldn’t be telling lies and trying to Socialize the nation.

Someone get the man a phone book, stat!

What get me is all those people sitting there listening to this evil tool and applauding every word coming out of his lying mouth. First you can keep your insurance and doctor but the thing is broken and government must take it over and change it. You still make your decisions with your doctor but the government will cut costs by deciding if the procedure or test is necessary. Do these people ever listen?

Kissmygrits on August 18, 2009 at 11:06 AM

Do these people ever listen?
Kissmygrits on August 18, 2009 at 11:06 AM

Yes, they really do. Unfortunately their hearing is very selective. They only listen to the parts about all the “free stuff” they think they’re gonna get…full gas tanks, mortgages paid, health care…welfare for eternity.

Barb Dwyer on August 18, 2009 at 11:28 AM

Foot Rustlers. I like it. Unfortunately, that make you an evil-monger.

Fred 2 on August 18, 2009 at 1:36 PM

I don’t think this is amateur hour: I think he puts contradictory ideas in his speeches intentionally, and they are spaced so that there is a different emotional tone for each. A little something for everyone.

Governmental Central Planning is NEVER a good idea!

LifeTrek on August 18, 2009 at 4:03 PM

Blah, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada, yada. And Obama tells us to turn down the rhetoric!
