Wal-Mart, CVS, Best Buy join Glenn Beck boycott
posted at 9:48 pm on August 17, 2009 by Allahpundit
Mind you, this is a guy who beat Hannity — a show that airs in primetime — in both total viewers and the demo last Friday at 5 p.m. Every last one of these advertisers is simply biding their time, wondering how long they have to wait until nutroots wrath is appeased and they can start advertising on Beck’s show again. I give it six months. Less if Greta gets dumped and GB ends up moved to 10 p.m.
Twenty companies have pulled their ads from Beck’s show in just the last two weeks. The moves come after the Fox News host called President Obama a “racist” who “has a deep-seated hatred for white people” during an appearance on Fox & Friends. Previous companies who pulled their ads include ConAgra, GEICO, Lawyers.com, Men’s Wearhouse, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, RadioShack, Roche, SC Johnson, Sanofi-Aventis, Sargento, and State Farm Insurance.
“We are heartened to see so many corporate citizens step up in support of our campaign against Glenn Beck,” said James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org. “Their action sends a clear a message to Glenn Beck: Broadcasters shouldn’t abuse the privilege they enjoy by spewing dangerous and racially charged hate language over the air. No matter their political affiliation, hate language doesn’t belong in our national dialogue.”
“Walmart [sic] today confirmed the retailer pulled ads from the Glenn Beck show on August 3rd,” said David Tovar, a spokesperson for Wal-Mart, in an email to ColorOfChange.org.
“While advertising on Fox is part of our communication plan, we had not requested time on Glenn Beck’s show specifically,” said Carolyn Castel, Vice President of Corporate Communications for CVS Caremark, in an email to ColorOfChange.org. “We have instructed our advertising agency to inform Fox to ensure Glenn Beck’s program is not part of our advertising plan.”
Right. Doubtless, like so many other Glenn Beck advertisers, the ad revenue will simply be redirected to other Fox News programs. Some boycott. Let’s vote on it.

This should be fun.

If you said ‘people like you’ to a black person of the proper political orientation you’d automatically be a racist.

Actually, Grow Fins, I think we do.
Please. Continue to make an ass of yourself. I’m quite enjoying this.

Kinda like you and Obama’s thought processes.

I used to take pride in driving 25 miles to shop at Walmart in a neighboring red neck town (our marxist civic leaders won’t allow Walmart in our hate filled-anti-hate town).
Now where can I shop?
Voodoo on August 18, 2009 at 4:40 PM
What did I say that was moronic? Since you assume that you are smarter than I am, I’d be interested in learning it.
As a matter of fact I would greatly appreciate it if either or both of you explained the phrase “people like me.” I see “people like me” all around in my southern California city. But Mr. (Ms.?) Silver says that he/she didn’t know that we still existed.

Terry Silver on August 18, 2009 at 4:50 PM
I didn’t say anything racist. You assumed that you knew my reasoning for thinking that Barack Obama played on white guilt to get elected. You conjured that knowledge in your own head and have continually claimed that this was my reasoning. It isn’t.
You claimed that I implied that black people shouldn’t run for political office. I did no such thing. You made it up.

Forgive me. I’m just a typical white person, you know…like Obama’s grandmamma.
Laura in Maryland on August 18, 2009 at 4:50 PM
Not wrong. You were the genius who made flat out assertions about what Obama thinks about white people, based purely on your own fantasies of what you imagine to be his thought processes. All based on zero evidence. And meanwhile, babbling Glenn is still an idiot….

This thread’s kind of off topic.

I have two State Farm agents, and I do a lot of business with them, have for dozens (over 30 years), they have both heard, and assured they sent my info onto the powers that be.
I will hear from a regional mucky muck in the next couple of days.
They know their days are numbered…the agents are very upset.
I have been informed that many many agents have complained about State Farm giving in.
I am not the only ones who have complained…and I don’t even listen to Beck, I have never even heard his show. I turn him off whenever I see him, he is a fool…but he has his right.

Lets just clarify. Do you think that Obama got elected because white people felt guilty?
Terry Silver on August 18, 2009 at 5:21 PM
Yet he got elected. I’m astonished at how little you think of the American electorate.
Terry Silver on August 18, 2009 at 5:22 PM
Until it was mysteriously disappeared about a year ago, O’bama’s wiki entry noted that the private prep school he attended in Hawai’i, Punahou, condoned a practice common to all Hawaiian schools back in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, namely “Kill Haole Day”.
On this day, white students had the getalife beaten out of them for the crime of being white. As a student in Kailua during the 1960s, I witnesses this first-hand.
Why would wiki suddenly delete such information?
Del Dolemonte on August 18, 2009 at 5:22 PM
I emailed Walmart today with the template someone posted on here. Their response as follows:
My Name,
Thank you for contacting the Global Ethics Office regarding a recent episode of the Glenn Beck Show and Wal-Mart’s advertising relationship with the show specifically and Fox News in general. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. continuously reviews media plans. In keeping with our internal guidelines to avoid content that is highly polarizing, we’ve instructed our agencies, as of August 3rd, not to run Walmart advertising in news commentary shows on national cable networks. This would include the Glenn Beck Show.
Regards,
Chris

Subject: Glenn Beck
To Whom it May Concern,
Is it true Wal-mart has pulled advertising from the Glenn Beck show on the Fox network in protest of comments Mr. Beck made asserting President Obama has racist views?
If so, has Wal-mart also pulled advertising from MSNBC for supporting Keith Olbermann and Janeane Garofalo’s claims that American conservatives protesting the Stimulus Bill and the Healthcare legislation are racists?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAAHMDpk7Ik&feature=PlayList&p=A97FE0B3BC3F84A8&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=1
Please clarify the position Wal-mart is taking – is Wal-mart boycotting racist statements by news hosts on television, or racists statements by Conservatives only? As an American citizen dedicated to free market capitalism, it is very important to me where my dollars go and what agendas they may support. If Wal-mart is taking a political stance, I would like that stance absolutely clarified so I can decide whether or not to continue my consumer relationship with your corporation.
Sincerely Curious,
My Name

LOL, notice how Terry cleverly avoids my other post about O’bama setting a new record for winning the votes of stupid people?
Del Dolemonte on August 18, 2009 at 5:24 PM
Yes. I do believe that a large percentage of white people who voted for the individual name Barack Obama did so because he has African ancestry and some of these same white people feel guilty for the racist sins of the past. They felet that having a black president would absolve this country of that allegedly-existing guilt.
baldilocks on August 18, 2009 at 5:26 PM
individual name=individual called
baldilocks on August 18, 2009 at 5:27 PM
Update-in the Best Buy story, they sent “DefendGlenn.com” an e-mail stating that they never pulled any ads from Beck’s show-because they were never an advertiser on his show in the first place.
Why would Color of Lies claim they were a sponsor?
Del Dolemonte on August 18, 2009 at 5:29 PM
Hey man, stupid people get to vote too, lol. I can counter by saying that he also won majorities of the black vote, hispanic vote, jewish vote, catholic vote, asian vote, young vote, etc. He won majorities in pretty much every demo, so why not dummies too?
Terry Silver on August 18, 2009 at 5:30 PM
Baldi! So glad to see you here again! I missed you.
Mary in LA on August 18, 2009 at 5:30 PM
Okay I am confused, nothing new there. But I DVRed Beck all last week and I never saw any of those advertisers. Many of the commercials were local businesses. Do cable companies or networks decide which commercials to show based on the broadcast locale? If so, this whole thing may be somewhat of a put-on. I do know that the idiots at Kos and Color of Change or whatever are still claiming Proctor and Gamble withdrew ads when the email they posted from P & G said they never ran ads on Beck in the first place.
Now you can go back to feeding the trolls.
Deanna on August 18, 2009 at 5:30 PM
I say that group of people that felt guilty was about the same that didn’t vote for him because of his ancestry. I believe that they were both small groups.
Terry Silver on August 18, 2009 at 5:32 PM
Ooh, can I play, too? “Terry’s mama is so fat, she has her own Zip code.” ;-)
Mary in LA on August 18, 2009 at 5:34 PM
Do you have any evidence to back up this belief? Or is it just an opinion. Because my opinion opines the opposite.
Grow Fins on August 18, 2009 at 5:34 PM
That’s fair. But neither my assertion nor yours makes either one of us racist and I’m still trying to figure out how you concluded that I was racist.

Well I apologize if I took something the wrong way. I just don’t think you would call it an election by white guilt if Obama was conservative. Nobody says that Michael Steele getting elected RNC chair is a case of white guilty.
Terry Silver on August 18, 2009 at 5:39 PM
Terry, there is a surprising overlap between college graduates and stupid people. Or are you next going to claim that because George W. Bush graduated from Yale, he was smart?
