Wal-Mart, CVS, Best Buy join Glenn Beck boycott
posted at 9:48 pm on August 17, 2009 by Allahpundit
Mind you, this is a guy who beat Hannity — a show that airs in primetime — in both total viewers and the demo last Friday at 5 p.m. Every last one of these advertisers is simply biding their time, wondering how long they have to wait until nutroots wrath is appeased and they can start advertising on Beck’s show again. I give it six months. Less if Greta gets dumped and GB ends up moved to 10 p.m.
Twenty companies have pulled their ads from Beck’s show in just the last two weeks. The moves come after the Fox News host called President Obama a “racist” who “has a deep-seated hatred for white people” during an appearance on Fox & Friends. Previous companies who pulled their ads include ConAgra, GEICO, Lawyers.com, Men’s Wearhouse, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, RadioShack, Roche, SC Johnson, Sanofi-Aventis, Sargento, and State Farm Insurance.
“We are heartened to see so many corporate citizens step up in support of our campaign against Glenn Beck,” said James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org. “Their action sends a clear a message to Glenn Beck: Broadcasters shouldn’t abuse the privilege they enjoy by spewing dangerous and racially charged hate language over the air. No matter their political affiliation, hate language doesn’t belong in our national dialogue.”
“Walmart [sic] today confirmed the retailer pulled ads from the Glenn Beck show on August 3rd,” said David Tovar, a spokesperson for Wal-Mart, in an email to ColorOfChange.org.
“While advertising on Fox is part of our communication plan, we had not requested time on Glenn Beck’s show specifically,” said Carolyn Castel, Vice President of Corporate Communications for CVS Caremark, in an email to ColorOfChange.org. “We have instructed our advertising agency to inform Fox to ensure Glenn Beck’s program is not part of our advertising plan.”
Right. Doubtless, like so many other Glenn Beck advertisers, the ad revenue will simply be redirected to other Fox News programs. Some boycott. Let’s vote on it.

Glen Beck is a racist and a bigot. Something that should not be tolerated. This is no longer the 1850′s

They certainly have a right to boycott him…as I have a right to boycott them. I’m not a big Beck fan (goes off the deep end to often for my tastes)…but he get’s a lot of things right…When I see these guys boycotting Olbermann as well, then maybe I’ll change my tune.
It’s the reason they are boycotting him that offends me. So, any company that joins this boycott, automatically loses my business…they can do it and so can I. It’s the American way.

Glen wasn’t on the radio today. I’m at work when the TV show is on, was he on that?
4k78 on August 17, 2009 at 9:53 PM
Not sure if you are aware, but this is a DailyKOS project. They are contacting the advertisers to complain about Beck, and are doing so with success. KOS shows letters he receives back from the advertisers with the promise to pull the ads.
jediwebdude on August 17, 2009 at 9:53 PM
And you think the battle is being won?….. Glenn needs to be supported. He is far more a conservative than Ed Morrissey, or however you spell his name, could ever be.Yes, I live in MN. Ed is milquetoast.
MNDavenotPC on August 17, 2009 at 9:54 PM
Something’s up. The notion that nothing like this has happened to Olbermann tells me that these companies who pulled their ads are victims of extortion.
perroviejo on August 17, 2009 at 9:54 PM
The left is boycotting because Beck called the President a racist. The left calls the right racist every single day.
Please explain.

I don’t remember this kind of reaction when Kanye West called Bush a racist. As I recall, that merited a portrayal of Kanye as Christ on the cover of Rolling Stone.
JohnJ on August 17, 2009 at 9:55 PM
Thanks for chiming. And Obama sat in a racist’s church for 20 years, so stuff it. Obama also jumped on a white cop for no reason except to shoot off his mouth like Al Sharpton.
Today, Beck had a great episode on Obama’s destruction of small business. All the best in your government job. Soon, we’ll all be as mediocre as you.

REALLY surprised on walmart, if only for the fact that DailyKos has had a banner ad all week asking walmart to ditch him (I read the opposition for kicks)
WTF is this all about? KO said worse about Bush and Cheney for years. Matthews called Palin an “Idio”t and race baiter
what’s the difference?
battleoflepanto1571 on August 17, 2009 at 9:55 PM
I have a policy with State Farm (one of the companies pulling advetising). I will be calling them first thing tomorrow and telling my agent that I will be changing to a different company and the reason why. I’ve never been too impressed with them anyway and this gives me the kick in the butt I need to make the change. Plus, I’ve always found something oddly attractive about that Progressive chick…

Evidence please… oh you don’t have any? Thanks for playing.
On the other hand, since we’re talking about spewing hate, I wonder how many of those advertisers pay for time on Olberman’s show? But then again to the left calling the President Hitler is harmless fun.
smfoushee on August 17, 2009 at 9:56 PM
What is so bad about this boycott is that it is directly connected to one of Dear Leader’s czars. No MSM wants to talk to about the czars…uh, that is except Glen Beck. Oh, that is just rodeo clown talk.

Wal*Mart would be nuts to runs ads during his show. Why? Because Wal*Mart wants socialized medicine.

Glenn Beck and Red Eye are the best things that has happened to Fox News in a very long time.
CVS lost their business with me and my family. Hello Rite Aid.
Also, I think the best comeback for Beck against these idiot advertisers, is having Palin on next week when he gets back from vacation. Those advertisers will be biting their asses for going against Beck.
Beck is a ratings juggernaut and he has faithful listeners and viewers. These advertisers are barking up the wrong tree.

rob verdi on August 17, 2009 at 9:59 PM
I’ve not been this upset since the election results came in back in November. This is an all out attack based solely on race. Color of Change is a purely bigoted organization that exists “to strengthen Black America’s political voice. Our goal is to empower our members—Black Americans and our allies—to make government more responsive to the concerns of Black Americans” (source)
It was founded by ex-con/communist (currently Obama’s “Green” Czar) Van Jones. CoC is currently led by James Rucker. Before leading CoC Rucker served as Director of Grassroots Mobilization for MoveOn.org and was instrumental in developing and executing on fundraising, technology, and campaign strategies. I wonder if he had a hand in any of the unethical fundraising techniques deployed by Team Obama. During the campaign he was “disgusted by Fox’s sustained attacks and smears on Barack Obama.”
This attack on Beck is nothing but pure Chicago-style Alinsky tacticts. Color of Change has mobilized its people to call and email, and its working.
We need to counter attack and call every single company to support Beck. Let these companies know that we are DISGUSTED with their capitulation to racist thuggery. All we need to make this disaster of a parade is Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson marching at the front of it.

I read almost every comment on Huffington Post about this. Surprisingly, they do have some intelligent readers who realize WalMart running 100 ads a day on FoxNews but saying “don’t run them on Glenn Beck” is still WalMart running 100 ads a day on FoxNews. Now, how they figured that out is beyond me – but they did.

If it weren’t for double standards, liberals wouldn’t have any.
It’s ok for the left to call American citizens racist and swastika carrying Nazis, but not ok for a talk show host (who’s less inflamatory than Bill Maher or John Stewart, by the way) to give his opinion about the president.
I guess racism only works one way in their little pea brain minds.

I think they are getting conservatives back for the Dave Letterman fiasco. Of course, Letterman is actually a sexist prick who was making unprovoked sexist and vulgar attacks on un-elected PRIVATE CITIZENS, one of whom happened to be a CHILD, but that means nothing to a liberal.
