Video: Geraldo channels his inner Barbara Boxer
posted at 9:30 am on August 17, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
When did Geraldo Rivera start getting his talking points from Barbara Boxer? Aren’t there sources for memes that are slightly more, er,intelligent than California’s junior Senator? Geraldo tells Ann Coulter and Kirsten Powers that he thinks that the protesters showing up in every Congressional district in the country are part of the “same Brooks Brothers crowd” that protested in Florida during the 2000 recount (via Gateway Pundit):
Yeah, those votes never did get recounted. We never saw election officials holding ballots up to the light to see whether chads were hanging or not. All of that violence that stopped the recounts came from the Supreme Court, those bare-knuckled brawlers in Brooks Brothers robes who declared on a 7-2 vote that the state Supreme Court had mucked up the entire process. And then the media never did do an extensive recount afterwards and show that Bush would actually have gained votes in a legal recount process.
Even beyond that historical illiteracy, this is flat-out ignorance of contemporary reality. Where are all of these supposed Brooks Brothers suits? We’ve played at least a couple of dozen clips from town-hall forums, and the only people wearing suits are the politicians and their staffers. It’s a lie, and it’s not even a good lie. When Geraldo has to lift his paranoid accusations from Barbara Boxer, maybe it’s time for him to consider retirement.

I saw this last night – I giggled for a good 5 minutes. He was really pissed.
gophergirl on August 17, 2009 at 9:32 AM
somebody lock him in Capone’s vault and throw away the key.
gsherin on August 17, 2009 at 9:34 AM
It’s time for Fox to boot Jerry Rivers over to MSNBC where he belongs.
Percy_Peabody on August 17, 2009 at 9:34 AM
It’s false, but even if it were true, you’re not allowed to protest if you shop at Brooks Brothers?
Ronnie on August 17, 2009 at 9:34 AM
I expect nothing less from Geraldo.
The real questions is when will Fox News realize that it is time for Geraldo to retire?
myrenovations on August 17, 2009 at 9:35 AM
Yes. Please.
ladyingray on August 17, 2009 at 9:35 AM
It’ll be interesting to see how this guy’s book does. I saw him peddling it last night. If it breaks the top 100, I’ll be very surprised.

I watched this clown on Sat and Sun night this weekend… you would have thought Sarah Palin shot his mom in the head or something… dude was furious.
BPD on August 17, 2009 at 9:36 AM
If televised, the ratings would surpass the MASH series finale. The networks really should consider your suggestion.
sherry on August 17, 2009 at 9:36 AM
I’m sure Brooks Brothers loves the radical chic label.
darwin on August 17, 2009 at 9:36 AM
I think Geraldo is still bitter because he did not find anything in Al Capone’s vault except an empty bottle.
kanda on August 17, 2009 at 9:37 AM
Geraldo is only good on investigative crime stories. When he starts foaming at the mouth about politics, I tune him out.
TXMomof3 on August 17, 2009 at 9:37 AM
When Powers rolls her eyes at a suggestion, a good host knows to shut up.
Vashta.Nerada on August 17, 2009 at 9:37 AM
Perhaps there was a mind-altering nerve agent in Al Capone’s vault? Or maybe it was just the extended time in Chicago.
NickelAndDime on August 17, 2009 at 9:38 AM
That’s a good sign … that means he understands that his precious illegals aren’t going to get free medical care. That also means he knows amnesty won’t fly either.
darwin on August 17, 2009 at 9:38 AM
This is almost as good as when he started pimping his new book, and got the name wrong. His own book!
Emily M. on August 17, 2009 at 9:38 AM
You could say Geraldo is not a fan….
TXMomof3 on August 17, 2009 at 9:39 AM
There’s a lot of racial profiling against the protesters…
the_nile on August 17, 2009 at 9:39 AM
It’s ALLLLLLL about the illegals.
marklmail on August 17, 2009 at 9:40 AM

the_nile on August 17, 2009 at 9:40 AM
Replace him with an illegal.
SouthernGent on August 17, 2009 at 9:40 AM
I quit listening to anything Geraldo says after the Capone vault stunt.
AnotherEd on August 17, 2009 at 9:41 AM
Geraldo has been blinded by the reflection of light coming from all the walkers and wheelchairs.
BuckeyeSam on August 17, 2009 at 9:41 AM
Coulter should have turned to him during that flummoxed rant, and said, “Please, Geraldo, just stop talking, you’re embarrassing yourself…more than usual”
She did have a huge smile on her face during the rant.
NickelAndDime on August 17, 2009 at 9:41 AM
Well, apparently it’s all about how Latinos are gonna change the world are something, so I think he actually has. Anything to stroke the ego, you know?
Emily M. on August 17, 2009 at 9:42 AM
No class warfare going on, so time to create some.
Why does Fox keep him around, nevermind he’s a jerk, but a race baiting moron who rarely get’s his facts straight.
Oh wait, I remember. Fox needs someone to stand outside and report when a hurricane makes landfall.
Hog Wild on August 17, 2009 at 9:42 AM
I wonder if he met Kirsten or Ann on the street he would now spit on them…they were laughing at him.
Geraldo is a cartoon…imagine someone making the money he does and saying the stuff he says.
I will state it again, when he was in Iraq, my nephew was in a unit where he was reporting.
They were laughing at Geraldo for days, he made a fool of himself constantly, and to this day when his buddies get together, tears come to their eyes regarding Geraldo and his “brave” reporting.
Fox basically has a “one man View” with this guy.
right2bright on August 17, 2009 at 9:42 AM
His career has been dead at Fox since he was kicked out of Iraq for giving away the position of our troops. He’s likely campaigning for a job at MSNBC.
Vera71 on August 17, 2009 at 9:42 AM
It’s amazing, for a guy who used the internet so effectively to bamboozle millions of people you would think Obama would realize that none of his rampant lies are shown in any of the videos that end up on Youtube. Maybe they should make a Internet Media Czar to edit some videos to put in all these raging, well-dressed mobsters.
cadams on August 17, 2009 at 9:42 AM
Just more sensationalist drivel form a man who is the journalistic equivalent of a ambulance chasing lawyer.

Gerry is in a group of people that I will absolutely not watch: Beckel, Rivera and Obama.
thomasaur on August 17, 2009 at 9:42 AM
BTW: there’s a reason Geraldo is featured at 10 EST Sunday night. Every one is watching something else or heading to bed.
BuckeyeSam on August 17, 2009 at 9:43 AM
Seriously… he started talking about the “public option” supposedly being off the table, and then went on a rant about Sarah Palin.
BPD on August 17, 2009 at 9:43 AM
Geraldo’s reasoning reminds me of the inside of a doughnut.
I think when Geraldo got hit over the head with a chair years ago, it may have caused permanent brain damage.
OR…..maybe he’s just a natural born idiot.
Rovin on August 17, 2009 at 9:43 AM
I expect nothing from Geraldo.

The time for geraldo to consider retirement came a loooooong time ago.

They are trying so hard to start a class warfare thing over this and get all the middle and lower classes all mad. What they do not realize is that people can see the tapes for themselves and see that these people look just like them. I have seen multiple tapes and have not found ONE person in a suit. what a bunch of idiots!
idahoconservative on August 17, 2009 at 9:47 AM
Like others here, I watched Geraldo Saturday night and amost gagged. What mystifies me is why Fox News has chosen to keep Geraldo. Everyone I know, both liberal and conservative, detests him. His rudeness to guests is simply unconscionable. And, he is simply wrong about Palin and wrong about the motivations of the town hall protesters and what put them up to their dastardly deeds! I would have liked one of his guests to have asked him how he feels about government paid health care to his best friends, the illegals.
ptolemy on August 17, 2009 at 9:47 AM
Gerry doesn’t care about health care reform, Democrat, Republican, etc…….
Gerry’s only passion is to see to it that 30-40 million illegals get taxpayer-funded health care! Period!
I’ve seen enough of his out-of-control dust ups with O’Reilly on the subject of illegals to know this is the case.
David2.0 on August 17, 2009 at 9:49 AM
Fox News keeps him so they can say that they are “fair and balanced”, but come on there is only so much we can take. There are better liberals out there – lets get Alan Colbes back he is crazy but at least not that crazy

A thousand times no. I would have Geraldo than Colmes, because at least you can laugh at Geraldo. Everytime I see Colmes, I remember a picture I saw once of a dog’s stomach after ringworms ate it (no, I don’t know why; let’s just say I have issues). The point is, Colmes is a douchebag, who got even douchier after he lost the glasses.

Liberalism=Racism against Whites.
David2.0 on August 17, 2009 at 9:55 AM
Geraldo claims he is a Republican and he also has political aspirations after his retirement. Good luck with that strange mixture of ideology.

They ought to give Ann Coulter Jerry’s time slot. Tucker Carlson would be good, too.

I am absolutely fascinated by the hypocrisy of liberal tools like Geraldo. In one sentence they gleefully talk about how the GOP is imploding and is in complete disarray and in the next sentence they are talking about highly orchestrated campaigns to send disrupters to town halls nationwide.
highhopes on August 17, 2009 at 10:00 AM
I can’t beleive Fox News still lets this moron on camera. I know O’Reilly likes him because he still is allowed on the show, but he’s a real whack job.

Have you seen his stories about the Casey Anthony case? This woman has a million dollar defense team courtesy of Whoraldo. Only because her attorney is latino.
Esmerelda on August 17, 2009 at 10:00 AM
Maybe FNC keeps Geraldo to grab the Hispanic demographics. As far as crime investigations, Greta usually does the heavy lifting. I can’t stand this guy and never watch his show. Outrageously, he wanted to have the air controllers at Teeterborough charged with manslaughter — just his typical flying off the handle style of moral outrage. He is a complete waste of time.

I am ashamed to say I attended the same High School on LI as this mega-tool although not at the same time. My neighbors son was his best friend. He was Jerry then and his Mom was a nice Jewish lady. He didn’t become mexican until much later.
It appeared Coulter and Powers were trying hard to not laugh out loud at this clown. His schtick is really comedy now, not journalism. Please send him to MSNBC and replace him with a functioning brain.
DeweyWins on August 17, 2009 at 10:02 AM
Maybe, what with Afghanistan heating up these days due to The Boy King’s lack of proper stewardship, they ought to send ol’ Geraldo out there and “embed him” with the troops..
..this time with a Taliban unit so that — at least when he draws diagrams in the sand — he will be helping us.

Those silly liberals like to attack us tea party protestors since we are effective and have started a movement! Don’t forget you local recess rally this Saturday at noon. The “Brooks Brothers crowd” was there to prevent the Dems going behind closed doors and “correcting” the votes so Gore could win like what was done in the Washington Governor race and the Franken race. This was after they illegally had the votes of over 2000 members of the US Military tossed out on a tecnicality of no postmark even though the votes were received BEFORE the election.

I can count the number of people that cause me to change the channel from Fox News on one hand and still have two fingers left over. Bob Beckel, Susan Estrich and Guhraldo. The only difference in the three is I can’t stand Estrich’s voice. Beckel is an idiot and Guhraldo is twice as much an idiot as Beckel!
By the way, I refuse to watch this clip because it’s Guhraldo even if Anne Coulter IS on it!
Hey Guhraldo! Bu-bye!
Vntnrse on August 17, 2009 at 10:13 AM
Considering that Geraldo Rivera saw “bodies stacked like cordwood inside the Superdome” (there were actually six…though only 1 actually died there apparently), it’s not surpising that people in Bermuda shorts carrying lawn-chairs look like people in 3-piece Brook’s Brothers suits carrying briefcases to him.
Drugs will indeed do things like this to ya. He needs medical care…WAIT…he needs: ObamaCare. Rationed ObamaCare!!

Don’t call for Fox to give Geraldo the heave-ho. Fox includes many voices. And when contrasted with the conservative voices on Fox, every time Geraldo speaks another conservative gets his wings. He’s everything the left is, not the least of which is an ethnic/racial demagogue. It’s good for people to see that, and associate it with liberal thinking. He does his ideology no favors when he speaks, so he should speak often.
