CNN anchor to protester: Hey, stop calling yourselves “real Americans”

posted at 4:45 pm on August 17, 2009 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

All this poor guy meant by “real” is that the people at Obama’s town halls were true grassroots activists who went on their own initiative, not as fronts for the White House or some conservative astroturf operation. After three weeks of being smeared every which way as flakes and phonies by the guardians of tolerance, capped by Madam Speaker calling shouters un-American, who can blame him for stressing the point? Answer: Don Lemon, deciding that even the remote chance that viewers might take this as a challenge to the patriotism of ObamaCare supporters warranted an impromptu lecture on proper political rhetorical in the age of Hopenchange. And I do mean lecture. There’s nothing in the way of a question here, as one might expect from a “reporter.”

Shot in the dark: Any CNN fans among the Hot Air readership? I’m mighty curious to know if Lemon’s flown into any similar snits about the cavalcade of “divisive” Nazi/brownshirt/political terrorist spin oozing from his side of the aisle. Click the image to watch.

I’m betting that protester wakes up every night now thinking “man…what I should have said was…”

I watch occasionally, as in a couple minutes to be fair and balanced while channel surfing and that’s all I can stomach. Happened to be doing just that yesterday and I caught a little CNN blip touting their status as #1 in the ratings above FOX and MSNBC. Almost fell off the couch. Say it ain’t so!

Speaking for some of us that were up in the nosebleed section until registration was opened–I spent many a evening at work reading your comments and LOL. Just wanted you to know I was a fan that missed you too…

lovingmyUSA on August 17, 2009 at 5:24 PM

I did the same thing. I watched, and when the first open registration came around, I gladly registered. Being just an observer just isn’t good enough! :)

I’m a CNN fan, but only by default (they still do more news than the others and not so much with the blowhards).

And, frankly, corporate Republicans versus the people, too.

For once, we totally agree.

This CNN footage is another textbook example of the school of journalism that says to scream over anyone who disagrees with your personal opinion. See “O’Donnell, Larry.”

Shortly after the prez took office, CNN did a poll on their Web site: Who are you most enthralled with, Barack or Michelle. No option box for neither. That was the last time I went there, and certainly won’t watch CNN on t.v. either.

Now….if they had asked the more appropriate question: Who are you more appalled with? Barack or Michelle. Now you’re talkin’.

betsyz on August 17, 2009 at 5:31 PM

I don’t know where cranky has been not protesting, but the ones that I attended had people from non-white races and people who had legally come from other countries and become citizens of the USA who were there protesting. My “adopted” black son is totally against Nobama’s health care program, but he doesn’t have any transportation to get to the protest sites.

TruthToBeTold on August 17, 2009 at 5:31 PM

You should have heard his lecture directed at Nancy Pelosi after she called those protesters “un-American.” Oh, wait a minute, no lecture. I guess some are “more American” than others, huh Lemon? Here’s some advice: Wearing your rank hypocrisy on the outside for all the see is not proving to be effective for your side in this debate.

NO WAY! I’d miss the good looking women on Fox.

Jeff from WI on August 17, 2009 at 5:09 PM

What is it about Fox women?

CNN tried to populate their anchors with beautiful women. But, to me, most of them look like airhead cheerleaders/booth babes. They’re not the least bit attractive to me.

Most of the Fox women are not only beautiful, they seem intelligent and mature. For example, Patti Ann Browne is gorgeous and has a wholesome quality you can’t find on CNN. She can also be white hot, like when she wore her low cut dress on Red Eye. Yum.

I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,
I am a real American, fight for what’s right, fight for your life!

When it comes crashing down, and it hurts inside,
ya’ gotta take a stand, it don’t help to hide,
Well, you hurt my friends, and you hurt my pride,
I gotta be a man; I can’t let it slide,
I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,
I am a real American, fight for what’s right, fight for your life!

I feel strong about right and wrong,
And I don’t take trouble for very long,
I got something deep inside of me, and courage is the thing that keeps us free,
I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,
I am a real American, fight for what’s right, fight for your life!

Well you hurt my friends, and you hurt my pride,
I gotta be a man; I can’t let it slide,
I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,
I am a real American, fight for what’s right, fight for your life!

This Lemon guy was the beginning of CNN deciding to not pay much money for anchors. He is absolutely inept as an anchor; probably couldn’t have gotten hired in the smallest of markets – if not for Affirmative Action. Reminds me of a black guy trying (and failing miserably) to do black-face comedy.

pcpower1 on August 17, 2009 at 5:45 PM

CNN not so much…I’m wondering how typical this scenario is: My wife used to watch all kinds of TV, Boston Legal, all the CSIs, Ugly Betty, etc. I noticed at some point she quit, probably 5 or 6 months ago (could have been that writer’s strike). Now all she watches is Fox News and baseball when the Astros are playing. We have had satellite for at least 6 years and this is brand new. She says she can’t stand being insulted when she’s watching the networks anymore. I keep having to turn down the arguing they get into but I’m curious, is this going on anywhere else?

DanMan on August 17, 2009 at 5:04 PM

It’s happened to me almost eerily the same. I used to slough it off with shows like the west wing — good writing but I knew Aaron Sorkin was a diehard lib so it was ok, regardless of the crazy “white Christian” sterotypes they would have show after show. I mean, the guy wrote A Few Good Men, after all, so he’s talented even though he’s lib.

I actually used to love Boston Legal before it got 80% anti-war. By about 2006, it was basically just a setup for James Spader’s character to do a closing statement on how bad bush was.

The funny thing is, NOW i’d be interested in watching this drivel…. the dems have ALL THE POWER….. and yet i bet ole David E Kelly doesnt write up trial cases attacking Obama re: Afghanistan and Iraq. I bet the focus will be on ‘teabaggers’.

I was cool with CNN until this last election. They pretty much lost me as a viewer. They’re still better than MSNBC and the broadcast networks (although ABC gives them a run for their money with Jake Tapper and John Stossel). But if I want real reporting I’ll watch the actual non-talk-show newshour on Fox.

Caiwyn on August 17, 2009 at 5:53 PM

Hell No I am not a CNN fan. In fact I refuse to even watch this clip. I heard about it earlier. CNN reporter: blah blah blah blah blah blah blah and in conclusion blah blah blah blah.

battleoflepanto1571 on August 17, 2009 at 5:47 PM

I agree. I used to love The Practice, so I was mildly interested in watching Boston Legal, but the liberal bias is too much to take. It sucks, because most of the shows on television are liberally biased. It’s almost as if the writers think only liberals watch their shows. Law and Order is another show that comes to mind in the bias department. It’s satisfying though that Boston Legal was cancelled. Very satisfying. NCIS and King of the Hill seem to be the only shows that aren’t liberally biased and King of the Hill is now cancelled.
I agree about The West Wing too. Back when it first came on, I was fascinated by it because of the “movie” feel of the show, but then I lost interest and I’m glad I did.

Don’t go on CNN and expect to get a fair hearing. You will get sandbagged. Same applies, of course, to MSNBC, CBS, ABC, etc. I wish all conservatives, including politicians, would clue in to that basic fact.

F-ing conservatives. They think it’s still 1955 and they should say “please” and “thank you” every time they get kicked in the crotch. Duhhhhhh…. The only reason the networks have a guest like that on their network is so they can hand their ass to them.

Anyone agreeing to appear on a network has to go in like Ann Coulter does – alert, informed, and ready to fire back immediately. If you’re not ready to do that don’t go on the show.

Django on August 17, 2009 at 6:11 PM

Lemon makes a fair point–but he needs to make to both sides.

Yes, liberals are real Americans, too–but it was Pelosi who said that we were fake ["astroturfed"]. Oddly, i still haven’t gotten my paycheck from Big Insurance.

And it is the president and some Democrats who are planting and packing their audience with supporters so they will not be asked any hard questions. That’s what the guy meant when he “real Americans” to Lemon; that is, a real cross-section of Americans, not a hand-picked fan club.

Hey, it was Jet Screamer (Howie Dean) who started it. When he ran in 2004 he shouted that he was “going to take back my country” from the evil Rush Limbaugh.

In other words, he was saying exactly what CNN now has their getalifes in a bunch over.

Del Dolemonte on August 17, 2009 at 6:47 PM

Sarah Palin’s ‘Real Americans’ were a bunch of angry white losers. I’m guessing this guy fits the bill. Country First!

simplesimon on August 17, 2009 at 6:49 PM

OT: Krauthammer just said they’ll never get national healthcare now. At best they’ll get some insurance reform but nothing more.

elduende on August 17, 2009 at 6:52 PM

Lemon is a perfect example of why affirmative action does not work.

Comment of the day so far on this story from another board

“Lemon has soured me on CNN”.

That should be the Dems’ campaign slogan in 2010. Please.

It cheeses me off that these folks are convinced they are the only “real” Americans.

CrankyIndependent on August 17, 2009 at 5:11 PM

Are they? Or is that just a convenient club to use to beat them over the head? Anyway, that’s not what the guy was saying; and even if he were, after being called “un-American” by various Dem pols, he has the right.

As for the racial composition of the protesters, I’ll have to check that with Protester Central. Maybe they can send over some non-whites pronto.

Hah. Its a damn shame really but its probably for the best. I’d take the leadership of the people rather than rely on these thieves we have as “leaders” any day.

Darn wife made tacos tonight. I hate Mexican food. Well I’ll be one REAL GASEOUS AMERICAN.

CrankyIndependent on August 17, 2009 at 5:11 PM

Or is it just that it “cheeses” you off that they think that they are real Americans too?

Scrappy on August 17, 2009 at 7:17 PM

NathanG – don’t despair, Mike Judge is still on the air. He has another animated show now, The Goode Family on ABC. It’s a hilariously vicious rip on a far-Left Libtard Enviro family. The husband is a chair-moistener at the local community college, the wife is a community activist, the daughter cringes every time her mother tries to be her friend and talk to her about sex and best of all the son is an adopted South African. Turns out the parents were, uh, baked when they filled out the adoption app and didn’t realize the kid was from white Afrikaners. I reckon they thought they’d be emulating Brad & Angelina by adopting a black African baby but their son, who they named Ubuntu, is as white as they come.

Finally, their dog is named Che. The poor little guy is force-fed Vegan dog food so of course his ribs were showing like those of a concentration camp victim. But like his namesake, Che goes on a murderous rampage, devouring neighborhood squirrels, raccoons, cats, birds, and so on. Soon after, Missing Cat posters begin sprouting throughout the ‘hood. Every episode of this show is a laugh-yer-a**-off funfest.

CNN lost me when they made a deal with our enemy during the first Gulf War.

Hey, stop calling yourselves “real Americans”

Anyone to claim jessie jackass a ‘Huge’ Leader, a ‘Great One’..is bound by ignorance and dare I say… “racism”.

christene on August 17, 2009 at 7:34 PM

Lemon is just trying to make for all the damage he caused during the Prof. Gates fiasco. He interviewed the cops and got a totally different answer than what he was expecting. He’s just trying to help his man…isn’t that what MSM “journalists” do?

d1carter on August 17, 2009 at 7:35 PM

CNN –
MSLSD

Their all the same
it doenst matter..

To them they are the ONLY americans
the rest are just pee-ons..
and they do plan exactly that

to piss on our constitution
to piss on americans who disagree with them
But then they will go much further..

I haven’t watched the show, but I might watch it online if it’s available. It didn’t even finish its run. I don’t think the ratings were good enough to justify it. Summer series never do well anyway. I’m willing to bet it’s on ABC.com though.

NathanG on August 17, 2009 at 7:47 PM

Love how the “journalist” that are supposed to advocate Free Speech take it upon themselves to tell people what they should and should not say.

Lemon will get some credibility on the “real Americans” issue when we see his spot calling out his liberal friends that have spent the last several weeks calling Americans “mobsters”,”right-wing extremist”,and the democratic leadership calling them “un-American” in an op-ed of a national newspaper.

Until then,a “journalist”(or Obama campaign worker) is the last person who has any authority or credibility in telling people what they can and can’t say.

Baxter Greene on August 17, 2009 at 7:50 PM

Sorry, Lemon, but net tat payers are the real Amurricans.

Net tax consumers, on the other hand, are nothing but societal leeches.

Screw you.

Journalism is an unregulated, inregistered profession. There are no tests, or state boards of journalism examiners. Anyone can call themselves “journalist” or “reporter.”
