Quotes of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on August 16, 2009 by Allahpundit
“Put a bill out there, make them filibuster it. Make them be what they are — the party of no. Look, we spend — the truth of the matter is, we spend about $8,000 per person in the United States on health care. The second — the country that seconds the second most is Switzerland, they spend $4,000. That means you have got $4,000 per person more that we spend on health care, that is $1.2 trillion, 4,000 times 300 million. And you know what? Run on it. A lot of people — and we’re not producing any kind of results that double that money provides. Let them kill it. Let them kill it with the interest group money, then run against them. That’s what we ought to do.”
***
“Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), who led the crafting of the bill the House GOP put forth as a rival to the president’s health care proposal, told POLITICO that ‘the momentum is just now becoming visible.’…
‘A win for us is anything that improves the current situation without damaging the good things about our system,’ said Price, adding that any bill that does not include a public option, employer mandates and the rationing of care could be looked at as something of a success for his party.”
***
“I will never vote for a bill to kill old people, period.”

Earth to Carville: “It’s the economy, STUPID.”
Carville’s buddy Obama, recently stated that “the stars are aligned for healthcare reform”. Obama couldn’t be further out of touch: We are in the deepest recession since 1930′s, massive job losses every single week, a HUGE TRILLION dollar deficit, a rapidly growing mistrust (anger) of government, a Democrat controlled House, Senate, & White House Admin who are spending record amounts, nervous investors (China) in our economy, tax revenues down sharply…
I don’t know what planet Obama & Carville are living on, but they are in for a rude crash if they think their party won’t pay a hefty price in 2010.

Carville: Let GOP kill reform, then run against them
=====================================================
MEMO to RNC:
Do everything in your power to kill this bill!
Let every Liberal put their signature on it,
RINO’s if need be.They will be made famous, but,
not by McCain!
Allow the Democrat Party,to own every single inch,
lock,stock,and barrel of this Obama-ination!!
This will be a Obama’s Abyss, that sucks every single
Lefty down that gapeing hole that will come back to
haunt them over and over!
Make sure,if this HealthCare, doesn’t go down in smolder
ing flames, that the Liberal Party owns the entirety of it!
And a full Media Press Conference as to why the Republican
Party could not sign on,so that the Liberal Press aren’t
telling the American people why the RIGHT didn’t!!
canopfor on August 16, 2009 at 10:35 PM
Hard to pin the failure of this bill on the GOP, Carville. You toolbags own the house, senate and white house. Seems to any casual observer that any failure lies with the majority party.
ted c on August 16, 2009 at 10:36 PM
Can’t agree with you there – Krauthammer has consistently criticized Obama’s rhetoric for logical fallacies and outright dishonesty, including Obama’s constant use of strawmen. Here’s an older example. I can’t say why he came out against the protesters initially, but he’s been really good when it comes to cutting Obama’s speeches down to size.
Missy on August 16, 2009 at 10:37 PM
Partially, I really did not see a lot of GOP push back on Obamacare. It seemed more like the GOP was on the sidelines watching the townhalls devour the democrats.
But no doubt that Obama knows what he’s doing.

This is funny. They didn’t even have a Crap&Trade bill out (not in any readable form, as it was a 1200 page tome with an extra 300 page amendment attached at 3am) and they voted on it and passed it, anyway.
Someone needs to tell Carville that the lefty strategy these days is to pass it before anyone sees it. Knowledge of leftist legislation is sure to kill it, so it has to be passed before any ink is even dry. Otherwise they have to discuss it, and then the Dems can’t help but make idiots of themselves and show their contempt for America and disdain for our Constitution.
progressoverpeace on August 16, 2009 at 10:39 PM
Mostly Krauthammer refers to Obama’s “elegance” and “rhetorical grandeur” in sarcastic terms.

ted c on August 16, 2009 at 10:41 PM
If we are successful in putting a stake through this bill, the Republicans should take the wind out of Carville’s sails and have an ad showing the 1000 page monstrosity burning to ashes. And declare victory for freedom over the tyranny of socialized medicine. The ad should end with a thank you to all the unofficial members of the resistance who are active in tea parties and town hall meetings for taking the initiative to save their liberties.

The dems can pass whatever they want…..
It’s the American people who don’t want ObamaCare.
Many Obama voters did not sign on for a Marxist overthrow of Washington.
Obama fooled everyone with his “stimulus”.
He even got the house to vote yes on Crap & Tax.

Less in malpractice insurance and less tests ordered in the case of defensive medicine.
But also, less trial lawyer $$$ going to absolutely worthless, corrupt and incometent Democrat politicians, including jackass Obama.
Tort reform is the only potential savings we have. Anything the Democrats offer is nonsense.

How are the republicans supposed to kill it when they don’t run the white house and have minorities in the house and senate? If the healthcare bill dies, they can’t blame the real culprits, Joe and Jane Public. After all, wasn’t it Joe and Jane that, according to them, wanted the state to run everything because they’ve done such a good job with everything else.
Hey liberals, go ahead, blame George, Karl, and Dick. While you’re at it, I’m sure the Christians, military, and militias are all equally responsible. Now that you’re back to doing what you do best, blaming everyone else for your problems, the rest of us can go back to work and try to drag the country out of the recession.

Tort reform boils down to “Loser Pays, No Exceptions.” Along with prohibiting ambulance-chasers like John Edwards from drumming up cases on spec, it should outlaw lawyers running for public office.

But thousands pour across the border everyday, those here are having children, and no wonder our social services are bankrupting states like California……..
……. Obama sees them as votes, tied in with the Unions, the Liberal Media, Hollywood, the bureaucratic elite political class, and all he has to do is buy off votes one at a time.
Why not, all he has to do is just print the money………

Every study I’ve read has shown that tort reform would reduce healthcare costs by 1%. I’d like to see the source of your 25% figure. BTW, I’m not disagreeing with you on the merits of tort reform, just questioning how much it will really save.
The larger issue- that everyone seems to avoid except for quoting Obama directly on the point- is that the US health care system is grossly expensive to a point where US companies are simply no longer cost competitive in the global economy.
Look at the WSJ stats that place France’s bill for covering their entire population at 30% less than what the US pays (as a percentage of GDP). And while there are valid points about types of rationing and waiting lists in the UK that are unacceptable to Americans, keep in mind that the UK pays 50% LESS for health care than Americans.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124958049241511735.html
It’s pathetic that the world’s most advanced country has such a grossly inefficient and over-priced health care system that US companies are no longer cost competitive with France when it comes to the cost of employee benefits. Luckily the US is still more efficient than Europe in many other areas, but health care has been a thorn in the side of competitives that is only getting worse.
I’m not pushing for Obama’s plan but pointing out that we have a problem that needs to be fixed by someone, somehow.

It will be interesting how this plays out starting tomorrow.
I suppose genetic testing for liberal trends won’t be far behind.

The difference in malpractice premiums would be a lot more than that, on its own.
I’d like to see the source of the $8,000. I pay a lot less than that, inclluding everything. Medicare spends more than $10,000@. Medicaid is probably even worse. If the lefty morons think something eeds fixing, they need to keep their eyes on those things they actually are now responsible for. They need to keep their sticky fingers out of my insurance, exccept to give me access to plans across states (without lefty-style regulation by squeezing the jugular).
