Quotes of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on August 16, 2009 by Allahpundit
“Put a bill out there, make them filibuster it. Make them be what they are — the party of no. Look, we spend — the truth of the matter is, we spend about $8,000 per person in the United States on health care. The second — the country that seconds the second most is Switzerland, they spend $4,000. That means you have got $4,000 per person more that we spend on health care, that is $1.2 trillion, 4,000 times 300 million. And you know what? Run on it. A lot of people — and we’re not producing any kind of results that double that money provides. Let them kill it. Let them kill it with the interest group money, then run against them. That’s what we ought to do.”
***
“Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), who led the crafting of the bill the House GOP put forth as a rival to the president’s health care proposal, told POLITICO that ‘the momentum is just now becoming visible.’…
‘A win for us is anything that improves the current situation without damaging the good things about our system,’ said Price, adding that any bill that does not include a public option, employer mandates and the rationing of care could be looked at as something of a success for his party.”
***
“I will never vote for a bill to kill old people, period.”

They still have not addressed the core causes of the extreme high costs of healthcare in this country.
They have not addressed the problem with lobbyists having more to say what’s in these bills than the people or even the lawmakers themselves have.
They have not discussed tort reform, and blowbama sidesteps the question every time as does every other politician.
When they get HONEST, then maybe we’ll listen. Until then they can expect nothing but problems from us.

Someone needs to lock this Price character in the closet until this is all over. The only success would be for this bill to be killed. If they want to try to reform some sections, then they can handle those issues one at a time, but this massive, crappy bill must go. If it passes, in any form, it is a major loss for America.
progressoverpeace on August 16, 2009 at 9:38 PM
If any healthcare bill does Not include tort reform, then it’s a flawed bill and should be rejected.
There has to be tort reform and insurance reform in order to make healthcare affordable.
There’s nothing wrong with our healthcare in this country. Or else why would foreign leaders come here for help.
There has not been any talk about tort reform. By Lawyers who make the majority of congress.

d1carter on August 16, 2009 at 9:43 PM
This is simple. The Democrats want a bill that fundamentally enslaves the public, makes government omnipotent and gives people essentially no choice in their medical decisions. The current bills are insidious and represent the anthesis of what this country stands for. They are also the most frightening socialist manifestos written in the last 60 years. We must be very careful before accepting any of their compromises because this legislation is laden with land mines that must be identified and eliminated. The left must be fought with every fiber of our existence lest we become compliant wards of the state and this great Republic disappears..

Let’s see, the Blue Dogs got the bill hung up until the August recess. So the fault is those “evil” Republicans.

Carville thinks that using a condom when doing his sister is “health care”, something his mom and dad/uncle didn’t do.
Spiritk9 on August 16, 2009 at 9:44 PM
Note for carville: It ain’t the republicans who are stopping this thing. It’s the democrats who pretend to be independent and the conservative democrats. It ain’t the republicans showing up at democrat town hall photo ops and being disruptive. It’s the ’60′s era boomers who just woke up to the fact that they’re gonna loose health care. They know how to demonstrate, they are inclined to do so, and they are not afraid to be disruptive. They know you are stealing their free lunch, and they don’t like it.

The GOP needs to do a better job of erasing that whole “party of no” crap. It needs to be more articulate in formulating and stating its alternative proposals and getting them out there. They need to do townhalls and talk about why Obamacare is dangerous and why their proposals will make our healthcare system, our economy and America stronger.

Hey, dumbass, you have sixty votes. Republicans can’t do anything. Democrats are the ones who will kill it. And they’ll kill it because, duh duh da, the American people hate it.
I like this idea. Let Democrats run on the fact that the “GOP” was responsible for killing a piece of legislation that the American people hated. Remind them that Democrats fought tooth and nail against the wishes of the American people.
Brilliant.
amerpundit on August 16, 2009 at 9:47 PM
Now we see why the Left hates her so. They laugh at her, scoff at her, scowl at her, lie about her. But in the end, she is the one who resonates with the people and those who hate her are now scrambling for cover.

It seems as though Mr. Carville assumes either that 1.) the majority of Americans support any bill that the Democrats “put out there” or 2.) it doesn’t matter if the people support it or not. This whole representative government thing seems like an inconvenience to him.
z9z99 on August 16, 2009 at 9:50 PM
Saw that. Liked it. I think seeing Obama flail without a teleprompter has been quite an eye opener for Dr. Krauthammer who (to my disappointment) just is so bowled over by him when it’s turned to the “on” position.
Marcus on August 16, 2009 at 9:51 PM
Someone needs to explain to Price that the federal government’s responsibility is only found in Medicaid and Medicare and that is all that the federal government should be addressing in their legislation. The federal government has nothing to say about private insurance, unless it is regulating commerce of insurance between the states (not regulating insurance, but the commerce of insurance!) or tort reform. Other than that, private health care is a state issue.
The Constitution, and its limits, need to be put front and center in this argument. Now, for most lefties, the Constitution is nothing but the Bill of Rights (and only their favored “rights”) but they need to be taught about the main body of the Constitution which defines the architecture and limits of the federal government. I’m willing to bet that 88% of lefties think that the Constitution is nothing but a few amendments, with the rest not worth reading – as that is what The Precedent was describing in that insane interview he had given when he described the Constitution as a “charter of negative liberties”. It was clear that he was only talking about amendments, but, who would expect anything more from an affirmative action Harvard alum?

pearson on August 16, 2009 at 9:52 PM
The GOP would benefit by introducing solutions.
First, make insurance available across state lines.
Second, make those that press frivolous lawsuits pay all legal fees.
Third, doctors that lose their license in one state should not be able to get a license in another state.
Kini on August 16, 2009 at 9:52 PM
Look, they are going to have a bill. Obama’s presidency is over without it, and the midterms will be a bloodbath. So the GOP has got to get in there, say “Good, one bad thing down, about 100 more to go” and get a bill that does no harm, and then stamp their brand on it so Obama’s got nothing to ride into 2010 and 2012 with. Really, you can’t run on “we killed the bill,” but you can run on “we stopped them cold in their tracks from destroying the American health care system.”
Rational Thought on August 16, 2009 at 9:53 PM
I don’t buy it. Even if they claim that they took it all out, thy can slip it all back in in the middle of the night during Conferences to resolve differences between the house and senate, and they can then attempt to force the blue dogs and limp wristed RINO’s into voting for it all anyway..

Get the breakdown of opposition correct for a change. While we have 40+ percent of GOP-blind followers opposing ANY change, the OTHER opposition is in strong favor of a single-payer approach. But what is never stated in the corporate-owned MSM is that a large percentage of those favoring a single-payer program would settle for a public option as the best option currently available.
So at the end of the day the primary point THAT NO ONE IS MAKING is that a strong majority of US citizens are for a public option, AT THE VERY LEAST.
Co-ops will not offer significant competition to health insurers, and so far all we have from all aspects of the healthcare industry are promises that are in all likelihood completely empty.
If there is no public option, there is essentially no reform of the US healthcare system, and this country–particularly small business interests–cannot afford a continuation fo the healthcare status quo.

Did he forget that the dems have the “super majority” and can pass anything they want as long as they all, including the Blue Dogs go along with them? What a collossal turd. Is the health system in America really broken?
Is the health insurance program in America really broken?
Where exactly are the problem areas? Why?
Perhaps it would be more prudent to address the problem areas one at a time? Instead of this wholesale overhaul?
And let’s openly and honestly address Tort Reform.
And let’s end the “stateline” roadblock.
And let’s demand that the Obama Administration provide full disclosure regarding that 47 million number. Who are they?
What makes me so angry on this issue is that we demand facts, and they demand we accept platitudes.

To hear Obama and the other usual suspects tell it, that 47 million is a fixed figure, never changing, only growing, a permanent underclass. My youngest, now in college, carries health insurance from the college, and is on mine as well. She’s covered. But, for three months each year, she isn’t covered under her college plan. But she is still covered by mine.
Then there are those employers who are no longer providing health insurance because they no longer are employers.
Then there are that estimated 12-20 million illegal aliens who are being provided health care through a number of agencies, not just emergency room visits, many of which are funded at the federal and state level.
Then there are those estimated 2-5 million gangbangers…can’t see them enrolling in a Crips & Bloods Mutual Health Program, or the MS-13 Associated Health Plan any time soon. Yet, they eat up a lot of hospital and doctor time, energy and costs daily.
There are a few areas that need to be addressed. But the entire system broken? Unsustainable? Hardly.
Three major parts of the program thus far have seen a major retreat by Congress…there are others than can be taken off the table…but let’s just kill the entire thing.
Then get honest about the real or perceived problem.

Health care reform is actually easy.
1. Expand the use of HSAs
2. Expand the use of high deductible, low premium plans
3. Use the Commerce Clause to allow for the creation of a national market rather than 50 state markets
4. Allow individuals to purchase insurance with pretax dollars
5. Replace Medicare and Medicaid with prepaid HSA cards and allow or direct all recipients to purchase their own health insurance with their HSA subsidy
6. Tort reform
7. Stand back and watch the market work its magic

So true. If the GOP wants a real wedge issue, they should use the “greedy lawyer” meme when calling for tort reform, i.e., “Greedy lawyers are causing health care costs to spiral out of control, thus denying coverage to millions. These same greedy lawyers give millions in political contributions to democrats. Tell the democrats to stop their greedy lawyer friends from making health care unavailable to sick people. Demand tort reform now!”
If the dems had a wedge issue like this just staring them in the face, they’d be all over it. What’s more, the GOP can point to the now-despised philanderer John Edwards as exhibit #1 in the greedy lawyer, bogus medical malpractice sweepstakes.

Carville & friends like that “party of no” slogan. In fact, sloganeering is one of the things they do best. However, how soon they forget Tom Daschele – the Obstructionist In Chief, as he was known in D.C. He said “No” when asked the time of day, so “slash and burn” Carville makes no headway identifying Republicans as the party of no. Push has come to shove and Carville – like most of the names who’ve been running off at the mouth on that side of the aisle – will melt into the woodwork when the fan and fecal material collide.

Let’s see Edwards channel morality out of his situation.
Start tort reform by making it painful to those that press frivolous lawsuits. Make the lawyer and the plaintiff pay for all the costs. Make the incentive less attractive to sue.

A lot of unhapppy little Kossacks tonight as it slowly dawns on them that Dear Leader is a politician – a somewhat ineffective one to boot – and not a Messiah.
No, I won’t link but I’m quietly savoring it.

As usual, in keeping with his standard policy of being an idiot in serious need of a village, James “Ol’ Serpenthead” Carville gets it wrong with a capital “W”.
It is not the GOP that will end up killing Obamacare.
It will be the American people, who are now fed up with government infringing on their rights and liberties.
And Carville better get ready for a serious shelacking in 2010, because that is when the American people are going to speak again, not with just voices, but this time with votes.

“They” attempted to excoriate her for it, but it did stick, didn’t it? LOL!

Listen, the only thing they want is to turn off the pressure and publicity that is starting to leak in to the MSM. This movement CAN NOT stop.

I have no problem with them just saying no. Carville is a putz.

I could care less about some old koot calling the GOP the party of No. The GOP needs to get on message.
It amazes me that a former Alaskan governor comments on a Facebook page made such an impact on this baloney of a healthcare bill.
If the GOP cannot lead, then get the hell out of Sarah Palin’s way.
