Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?
posted at 9:00 am on August 16, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
It’s time for the OOTW poll, which increases this week from three to five, an actual improvement, of sorts, if you like the gallows humor of having an embarrassment in the White House. We would love to hear your thoughts on this poll, but only if you meet the presidential condition of completely agreeing with our approach. That’s always been my approach, except for those times when I’ve publicly said the opposite, which is nothing but disinformation that real Americans should report to the White House. You know, Michelle would probably save money if America had gone for greater efficiency by electing a competent President, but instead she has to pay me to do surgery on Obama every day with these nuggets. At least I don’t pretend that my proctological examinations of Obama’s fumbles will prevent prostate cancer, though.
Previous “winners”:
- Snitch Central for ObamaCare dissenters
- Rushing legislation bad in 2004, essential in 2009
- Obama opines on Gates arrest without “having all the facts”
- Obama salutes the Ghana flag
- Obama jokes about Alaska sale with Russians
- Obama uses union and DNC plants at health-care town hall
- Obama plants a question on Iran with HuffPo
- Change in Iran coming because “Obviously, after the speech I made in Cairo…”
- Flashing his soles to the camera while talking to Netanyahu
- “If you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”
- “We can no longer afford to spend as if deficits do not matter and waste is not our problem.”
- Siccing Tim Geithner and Charlie Rangel on tax cheats
- Phony Churchill quote on torture throws Grandpa under the bus
- Torture probe flip-flop
- Obama covers up IHS while quoting Jesus
- Austrian is a language?
- Obama bows to the Saudi king
- 1908 Model T got better gas mileage than today’s SUVs
Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
Addendum: Normally I’d put a link to Chris Muir’s Day by Day site here, but today I want to do more than that. Chris has a fundraising drive to keep his excellent cartoon alive. Be sure to drop a few dollars in his collection to keep one of the Rightosphere’s most talented warriors in the fight!

blacks have a higher incidence of prostate cancer (saw that somewhere authoritative). so now that they have to have a colonoscopy to detect it, they won’t go.
bambi is one stupid *sshole.

This was the toughest one yet. Every single quote sounds as if they dribbled from the mouth of an egotistic grade schooler who smokes way too much weed and drools in his sleep. Downright embarrassing as an American. If George would have had a single week this bad, even the GOP would have helped impeach him. Our ass-clown in chief is beyond the pale. Third-word… here we come.

Jim,
I think I put off the post-office one because AP had posted it the night before and meant to get back to it. I’m only doing one a day, and I don’t want to duplicate another live post if I can avoid it. I’ll make sure the “post office” clip is Monday’s OOTD. Unless, of course, Obama makes an even bigger doozy today.
Ed Morrissey on August 16, 2009 at 10:00 AM
I just had my ‘over-50′ colonoscopy. (All is well.) It’s so nice to know that the president is such an ignoramus that he thinks there’s a connection to prostate cancer.
Bush = genius when compared to the empty suit in the White House.
Mojave Mark on August 16, 2009 at 10:00 AM
It’s not racial issue, kelley. It’s pure sexism. Colonoscopies are a sexist scam on females, since females don’t get prostate cancer.

How about Tort reform????? Hmm….too many lawyers in Congress?

Obama will say anything to pass legislation and because he does not write or read the bills, he has no clue what is in them. Obviously, he does not care what is in them; just gets to campaign in front of his adoring crowds.

Yep, the media is my little hobbyhorse of discontent. I think they will be the defining subject of this era and can’t collapse fast enough. I don’t think history will treat them well, I just hope I am around to see that history written.

Good news, Mr. President! Your membership application seems to be eligible for expedited processing.
Rest assured, there is no discrimination in this club, Mr. President. Every candidate has an equal opportunity to fail.
Your laminated membership card is waiting, Mr. President.

Although all the choices demonstrated Obama’s massive intellect, oy, I went with ‘people who disagree should shut up’. Telling people who are already pissed off to shut up is like throwing gas on the fire. This is particularly egregious coming from el presidente, since he is supposed to at least pretend to give a nod to free speech.

petefrt on August 16, 2009 at 10:15 AM
It’s being written right before our eyes. Every month, major MSM outlets are losing more and more money from expired advertising contracts and declining circulation. Viewership of Network news shows is down, and stations like CNN are becoming largely irrelevent to people wanting information. CBS must be hurting like mad b/c very few watch Couric when she was billed as some great draw, as something new and fresh.
The decline you and I hope for is already happening. Nifty, huh?
Liam on August 16, 2009 at 10:18 AM
I don’t think we need to encourage either of those people to believe they have that much power. Especially the younger. “Don’t you know who I am?”, is not a winning slogan for the new Republican Party.
Cindy Munford on August 16, 2009 at 10:19 AM
I can see 2012 now; Obama saying that he still has more to “clean up” after Bush and Cheney! And the media promoting this, also.
Cybergeezer on August 16, 2009 at 10:19 AM
I loved his answer to the supposedly “tough” question he got about how he would pay for
health care reformmandatory health insurance without raising everyone’s taxes. He said he will raise taxes on people like himself, who make more than $250,000 a year, who get a tax deduction for their charitable contributions. He said he wouldn’t mind not getting such a big deduction and having to pay more in taxes.
Right. Just like the luxury tax didn’t affect the boat building industry a few years back.
Obama is either the dumbest brick in the load or he thinks the average American is an idiot. I suspect it’s a combination of both.
Jaynie59 on August 16, 2009 at 10:20 AM
Faster, please.
The other funny thing is that the NYT actually posted a profit last quarter because of all the conservative business practices it employed to correct the bottom line. Are they even aware of the comparison? I doubt it.
Cindy Munford on August 16, 2009 at 10:21 AM
Sure they are but they’ll always remain liberal. At some point the scale will tip again, and people will reject them in increasing numbers. All the Times did was maybe slow the slide but they can’t stop it long as they remain as they have for so long.
I think it’s the same as Obama telling people like us to shut up, where everything will backfire on the Left long as we can remain free. It’s more inevitable than their Marxist notion capitalism must eventually end under it’s own weight and surrender to a worker’s paradise.
Liam on August 16, 2009 at 10:27 AM
If you look at his tax returns you’ll see that the added tax to the Obamas would be negligible. They, and the Biden’s as well, give very little to qualified charities.
Dee2008 on August 16, 2009 at 10:28 AM
“Public Option” may now be off the table.
The President and Democrat Congress has more jell-o running down the wall.
yoda on August 16, 2009 at 10:29 AM
My Catholic school answer would be the decline in GDP is an improvement. Pure amateurism.
My public school answer would have to be telling people to shut up if they disagree. The other statements were lies and lack of basic knowledge.
fourdeucer on August 16, 2009 at 10:32 AM
To me the lies about wanting to hear dissent do not compare to the lies about single payer. We have the socialist in chief tell us he’s for single payer and then he denies it. It is much worse than Kerry saying he was for the war before he was against it. Because we know that Obama is STILL in favor of single payer, he just doesn’t want YOU to know that (just the AFL-CIO and SEIU). This is not a waffle it is straight deceit! Pants on fire!
Christian Conservative on August 16, 2009 at 10:33 AM

This was a tough poll! Some outright lies-but we already knew he was lying…An attempt to incite angry folks to rise up and prove his assertions of being terrorists-but we could see that coming down the pike…I finally chose the one that illustates BHO’s sheer ignorance. Anyone who thinks you can detect prostate cancer wih a colonoscopy clearly failed high school biology. Another subject he knows nothing about, in addition to economics, American history(except with the socialist spin), and basic good manners and common sense. I say again…sure would love to see those college transcripts and evidence of scholarly work. I suspect they are out there somewhere and pretty bad.

BTW, Day by Day lambasts the Republicans pols for not showing up on this debate. My Senator, Tom Coburn, has a plan that we might be able to live with and has come out strongly against unconstitutional and debt-expanding govt. health care.
We should settle for no health care plan that masquerades as coop or non-govt when it is a trojan horse for the eventually govt. takeover. I believe Coburn’s plan would not do that. Check it out.

My sister worked for a dentist doing his insurance work. She listens to Barry’s rant about the insurance payments that doctors receive and screams “that’s not correct”, “he’s lying”, “he’s stupid and doesn’t know what he’s talking about”. Most people probably accept what he says as fact since they’ve never worked in the industry, but those that have know better. He’s lying.

profitsbeard on August 16, 2009 at 11:46 AM
Dentists and oral surgeons are a different animal. In my vast experience dealing with both, they will accept whatever your insurance is willing to pay because they know people just won’t go into hock over their teeth. That’s been my experience for 30 years. They quote you a price and submit it to the insurance company. Your insurance will only cover a portion of it, so you call the office and tell them you can’t afford it. Trust me. They’ll take either just your insurance, or your insurance a maybe a few extra bucks.
Also, the dentist makes money off of your insurance no matter how small the payment is because he wouldn’t get paid otherwise. He wouldn’t get paid because he wouldn’t have the work.
I just spent over $12,000 to have my teeth extracted and implants put in. While I have lousy dental coverage, I did save some money by having insurance because my oral surgeon had to charge me less per procedure because my insurance would only allow so much for each procedure. So while he got less than his normal fees, he still got paid $12,000 that he wouldn’t have gotten because I never would have done it if it cost more. (I’m sorry I did it, anyway, but that has nothing to do with the money.)
Take care of your teeth, people. No matter what anyone tells you there is no replacement for real teeth.

Red State State of Mind on August 16, 2009 at 11:46 AM
For consideration for next week’s Obamateurism of the Week…
The White House is looking to transfer Gitmo detainees, all of them, to Michigan…developing.
Hoekstra has sent a letter to DoD and the White House asking specifically what the plan is, and what legal rights will convey to the detainees once they arrive on US soil.
Under current law…all legal rights of US persons will convey.
Thus…these detainees are being moved from Gitmo to Michigan and then most will likely be released for lack of evidence, tainted evidence, or lack of custody of evidence…not to mention how all of this will screw up Geneva.
Amateurism? Yes, It is.

I voted for “single-payer supporter”, but I would like to change my vote to “amputate limbs for the money” because now that I think about it, the single-payer one isn’t an amateurism, it’s an intentional deception (i.e., lie).

This was a bad week for The One, maybe his worst yet. I voted for “sit down and shut up” because those words from O’Bummer really got people fired up at the town hall rallies I went to. How on earth did I miss “Colonoscopies detect prostate cancer” Does anyone have a link I’d love to hear it come out of BO’s mouth myself!
Moaneeca on August 16, 2009 at 12:33 PM
I voted for the “single-payer” quote. Looking at the latest Rasmussen daily tracking poll, President Obama has already lost half the country in just 7 months. The people he can’t afford to lose are the
Ministry of Truthmedia. Sure, they love him. Sure they get “thrills” up their collective legs when he speaks. Sure they’ll cover for him. But the media hates being made out to look like fools. It’s one thing for them to do it to themselves, but yet another to have someone routinely do it to them. So, for Obama to “let me be clear” and “as I’ve always said” that he’s never supported a single-payer health care system, and have that trumpeted by the media; only to have somebody on the internet dig up some video from 2003 where he says the exact opposite, he’s showing that his allies in the press are not immune to the underside of his multiple-passenger transport vehicle. “Hey people in the press, fix that for me, will ya? I’d appreciate it.”To me, that’s what made this Obamateurish. He’s got a pliant press corps (with a few exceptions), and if he keeps throwing out this sort of easily disputable rubbish and expecting them to launder it for him, they’ll eventually cut their losses at the first opportunity (like they did with the Clintons). In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Obama’s popularity keeps tanking that the media would try to finagle their way back into the good graces of the populace. “Yeah, we knew this guy was a fraud the entire time, that’s why we were pointing out all this stuff to you. We had to make it look like we liked him…have you seen that Rahm Emanuel guy? He is one scary dude. At any rate, please watch our shows, read our papers and buy ad space again, please?”
Telling opponents to shut up was a close second though.
It was mentioned up-thread about Obama being both President and Surgeon General. Would this mean that he’ll be bringing Jocelyn Elders’ uniform out of mothballs? If so, his generalissimo image would be complete…after some alterations of course.
Left Coast Right Mind on August 16, 2009 at 12:41 PM
People say Obama is a uniter, but he’s a divider. He b*tches, whines and moans about others, unlike Bush, who never did any of that. You have to give Bush props for that, and you have to call Obama out for his frequent cattiness.

Haiku Guy on August 16, 2009 at 1:02 PM

TimothyJ on August 16, 2009 at 1:03 PM
I can’t pick, the colonoscopie detecting prostrate cancer was stunning. This is coming from the man who told us to put air in our tires because we were paying over $4.00 a gal for gas. He visited all 57 states, when he was campaigning except Hawaii and Alaska….I can’t believe he used the U.S. Postal service analogy AGAIN at the Colorado Town Hall Meeting yesterday. The young University of Colorado Student who asked him a specific question about “Crowd Out” was looking at him like, so you are going to just keep rambling on and not answer me then?
Drop in the GDP does he mean it wasn’t as bad as projected so that’s a good thing?
Remember this is the man who asked General Patraeus, in a Senate Hearing on Iraq, during the Presidential Campaign -He asked if we could leave Iraq a mess and still call it a success.
Telling people to keep quite you never tell Americans to keep quite or shut up, It just makes us LOUDER. I really wonder if these folks in our Government today, have passed any Civics or U.S. History classes. The only one who got it was Mike Russ (D) Blue Dog in Arkansas, at a town hall meeting he said: Leave him alone, let him yell, let him stomp his feet, This is America. The Progressives Democrats on the other hand like Ma’am Boxer, they are too well dressed to be protesters or Nancy Pelosi they are unamerican. Harry Reid, Evil Mongers. Really how did these people ever end up in AMERICAN public offices?
He was for Public Option, before they got caught – the Progressives, trying to run it through before their recess…
Really it’s just too hard to pick this week, put me down for all of the above. Obama the President, with the MSM in the tank for him, had a bad week. Sarah Palin, private citizen, with a facebook page, she had a great week.

I am tossing my hat into the ring with those that had a hard time chosing, like a kid in a candy store with a nickle in his hand. They all were over the top stupidy. What is amazing is how many he can come up with so many each week, just to keep un entertained :P

I could have just closed my eyes and picked one. What an arrogant idiot we have in the White House. *sigh* I ended up going with Single Payer, because it wasn’t just a stupid blunder or display of arrogance, but was such an easily proven bold faced LIE. The man was on tape advocating it for mercy’s sake! He really thinks he can do and say anything. Of course with most of the media covering up for him, he probably could.

Does the President even realize that the doctor that treats a patient for diabetes is not the same doctor that has to perform amputations? How stupid is this man? Not rhetorical – really how stupid is this man?

Stupid?
Obama may not be stupid…debatable, of course, but he does have a plan…but what plan? On what day? In front of which audience? But that’s a whole new thread.
Stupid?? In a nutshell…
This defines those who voted for this smooth talkin’ Chicago street hustler, and those who continue to “believe” and continue to support The One.

After much deliberation, and LISTENING to the opinions of my fellow HotAirheads,I decided on the colonoscopy detects prostrate cancer remark. My rationale:
It was the one choice that brought the coffee through my nose and on to the computer screen. (How I missed it before reading it here is beyond me.)
This man is oh-so entertaining! I really think I could write a hilarious skit for SNL with Obama as a ventriloquist’s dummy and any # of libs (from Soros on down the line)as his Edgar Bergen, but, a)NBC would never air it, and b)some how it would end up being turned around as being racist, especially when this type of verbal effluent would come spewing out of the dummy’s mouth.
There’s that old saying: “You can’t make this s*#t up, people!”

With so much to choose from, this is a really hard question.

I don’t think we need to encourage either of those people to believe they have that much power. Especially the younger. “Don’t you know who I am?”, is not a winning slogan for the new Republican Party.

It’s tough to choose which marble is the dumbest when you have in front of you a jar of marbles spilled by a complete idiot.
Everything he says is either stupid, ignorant, or an outright lie. It’s getting really, really hard to pick the OOTW.

This was a tough one. Each one more moronic than the last.
tommuck on August 16, 2009 at 7:30 PM
VERY tough one…
Toss up between “single payer” and “amputate limbs”.
“Single Payer” gave more superb youtube footage of him lying openly. But I voted “limbs” because it stirred up The American College of Surgeons and blew his credibility big time. This is on top of the “tonsils” stuff, making it doubly Obamateurish.
Only lingering doubt is that he is saying all this dumb stuff on purpose in order to get people to rise up against him, for the final crackdown on “the Violent Right”…
