Video: Ed Morrissey on ObamaCare at the Right Online conference

posted at 1:27 pm on August 15, 2009 by Allahpundit

I knew he was an eloquent speaker from his radio gig but I had no idea he was this self-assured in front of a crowd. Truly, a man willing to engage the audience by strolling away from the podium is a man who doesn’t know the meaning of the words “stage fright.” Seven solid minutes here on property rights and prosperity in the age of Hopenchange, with a little constitutional history mixed in. Consider this a formal abdication of his throne as RINO king. You’ve broken Olbermann’s heart, Ed.

In Ed’s speech he mentioned the first right listed in the consitution, the right to own your idea as property. It is my opinion that this is the only constitution way to promote something that the government thinks society needs.

FOr example, “green” energy. If our elected representatives want more gree energy, extend the patents for inventions that fit this criteria. Investors should like this since they have a longer period to get rich from their invention. A nice free market solution that does not take a time of other people’s money and is constitutional.

Meanwhile across town

Nutroots take page from tea partiers, yelling down Obama advisor at their blog convention…
Delicious

I did not link as it is at Huffpo, but oh the irony

One year ago at the Netroots Nation conference in Austin, Texas the mood of the crowd was one of excitement and elation over the possibility of a Barack Obama presidency.

A year later, with that possibility achieved, a sense of cynicism has begun to creep in. On Saturday morning, one of the president’s closest advisers, Valerie Jarrett addressed the Netroots Nation conference in Pittsburgh. And while attendees were largely supportive throughout the question and answer session, the reception was warm at best. The defining moment, in fact, came when Jarrett was hissed and heckled.

Roughly midway through the session, Jarrett was pressed to explain why the President was “continuing so many of [Bush's] policies many of which he criticized as candidate Obama.” Knowing the mood and makeup of the audience – largely progressive activists from across the country – she acknowledged off the bat that it was “a fair question.” But from there, things grew a bit rough.
“I heard somebody shout out about the pictures,” Jarrett replied. “Everybody knows what’s in those pictures. And this is where it gets very delicate and I know it is a touchy subject for this audience. But what he is trying to balance as president, is keeping us safe, not giving ammunition to people who already have ample ammunition from what they’ve seen before to be adverse to us.”

More shouts and protests followed. “I can’t hear you,” Jarrett said. “You know what you’ve got to do? You’ve got to figure out a way to get your question on here [pointing to the computer on stage that was receiving emails from questioners]. We are not going to have shout outs from the audience.”

The moderator agreed. “This is not a town hall meeting like that,” said Baratunde Thurston, of Jack and Jill Politics and The Onion. The crowd got the reference to the boisterous demonstrators at health care town halls. But they didn’t stop. From the back of the room, someone shouted a question.
A group of individuals sitting at a table off to the side started hissing. “I hear the frustration and I hear the kind of hissing,” said Jarrett. “I hear you. Settle down over there, settle down.”

Ed, ya done good.

The RNC really needs to take a hint from RightOnline. 5-7 minute talks about what we are, who we are, what we believe, in small groups, in large auditoriums, all over the Nation between now and election day 2012 would stand all of us good.

And Ed, did I mention ya done good?

Something that struck me as odd was the AnninCA earlier this week she is at least starting to understand, not agree, the conservative side of the healthcare debate. I am amazed that one could hang out here that much and not understand the simple desire for more liberty, respect for others property, and how that benefits all.

If that is indictive of statists thinking, a politician would never be able to persuade those people with stump speeches and commercials.

Great speech Ed, that was a very fast 7.5 minutes, engaging and getting across a very simple point that far too many people forget. I’m still stunned that Wal*Mart can take my house away if they feel like it due to “imminent domain” and that should be our next fight after we’ve stopped ObamaCare and Cap&Destroy.

Liberals believe that because they are so “enlightened” that no one’s belief system compares to their’s. They believe that all Conservatives are Racist idiots, all Southerners are rednecks, and all Northern Conservatives are under-educated. I had one Thursday night on a thread try to tell me how I should relate to my 22 year old special daughter. The best example of this hubris and arrogance is Barry Obama, himself.

This is the conversation that needs to happen all over the country. All of what is going on, whether it is health care, immigration, economics … is the discussion of who and what it means to be America? Do we own our own labor? Can I give it, or not give it as I choose? Is the money I earn, my money or does it belong somehow to the community and the community organizer to do with as they see fit? Are we a nation of individuals? Individuals that own property, own our own labor, who often choose to cooperate, share, give to others? Or are we a community?
My answer is the same as John Galt’s.
