I knew he was an eloquent speaker from his radio gig but I had no idea he was this self-assured in front of a crowd. Truly, a man willing to engage the audience by strolling away from the podium is a man who doesn’t know the meaning of the words “stage fright.” Seven solid minutes here on property rights and prosperity in the age of Hopenchange, with a little constitutional history mixed in. Consider this a formal abdication of his throne as RINO king. You’ve broken Olbermann’s heart, Ed.

I’ll play the innocent stage hand that flips on the light.

But of course! :)
Well done, Ed.

Robots. Girl Robots.
lorien1973 on August 15, 2009 at 3:05 PM
Great speech Ed. BTW, I knew what the first right was.
csdeven on August 15, 2009 at 3:08 PM
Could Ed do the unthinkable–from Olbermann’s best person last week to worst person this week? Well played Captain.
conservative pilgrim on August 15, 2009 at 3:08 PM
Ed proved, once again, he’s not just another pretty face. ;-)
TXUS on August 15, 2009 at 3:09 PM
HUMPING girl robots.
csdeven on August 15, 2009 at 3:09 PM
Doesn’t Twitter love count as “love”?
conservative pilgrim on August 15, 2009 at 3:10 PM
I will only support this idea if he runs in Pennsylvania. This state’s pathetic.
ProudPalinFan on August 15, 2009 at 3:13 PM
It’s rare to find someone who can articulate their convictions equally effectively in speech and in writing. Many of us who write do so to clarify and organize our thoughts but struggle with public speaking. The reverse is also quite common.
Ed, you are a double threat — and the new ‘do makes you look younger.
Terrie on August 15, 2009 at 3:15 PM
I think his type is Courier New or Arial Narrow. Definetely not a Times New Roman kinda guy.
TXUS on August 15, 2009 at 3:16 PM
Bravo, Ed! Great speech and eye candy all rolled into one. That was excellent!
califcon on August 15, 2009 at 3:18 PM
Are you certain that he is font of these types?
thomasaur on August 15, 2009 at 3:20 PM
I’m sure whatever the font or type, the size is quite small.
TXUS on August 15, 2009 at 3:26 PM
Lame! :-)
AsianGirlInTights on August 15, 2009 at 3:28 PM
Good Job Mr. Morrissey. The comments at the beginning of the thread were accurate. Glad I took the time. Thanks to all.
Skandia Recluse on August 15, 2009 at 3:30 PM
Way to go Ed! In five years, that conference will surpass the other one.
The Giant has awakened.
Sapwolf on August 15, 2009 at 3:33 PM
A nice Ming the Merciless outfit would work for great effect next speech. It is so obivous that defneding one’s and others property is so evil.
WashJeff on August 15, 2009 at 3:36 PM
Ed is dead on right about property rights.
That’s why I’m always ranting about local zoning, historic and “sub-division land development” ordinances. Gotta keep an eye on what your local municipalities are doing, or you’ll wake up one day and you won’t be able to put a doghouse on your property or paint your shutters the color you like.
forest on August 15, 2009 at 3:45 PM
Great handle, BTW. Are you trying to drive us boys nuts, not that we aren’t already, or is it longhand for AGIT, as in AGITprops? Just wonderin”?

Great job Ed…….
………. and I didn’t see one teleprompter within a mile of ya’.
Seven Percent Solution on August 15, 2009 at 3:54 PM
Clear and eloquent, Ed. Agreeing with 7%, it’s nice to see someone speak head-on instead of shifting glances from left to right constantly like a freakin’ ping-pong match.
indypat on August 15, 2009 at 4:05 PM
Great speech, Ed. The message was spot on, and the delivery couldn’t have been better.
simkeith on August 15, 2009 at 4:05 PM
Ed really did do a great job. I wonder how often someone that is so talented at writing also excels at delivery? More Mr. Morrisey.
Cindy Munford on August 15, 2009 at 4:11 PM
Great speech Ed, fantastic job tying property rights to the health care debate.
But next time have them turn the lights down a bit so you don’t burn the lens out of the camera. :-)
As a follically challenged individual myself, I am entitled to that shot.
conservnut on August 15, 2009 at 4:13 PM
That speech was 20 minutes too short. I would love to see Ed expound on that subject. Good work.
daesleeper on August 15, 2009 at 4:15 PM
Great speech. You deserved a standing “o”
:)

If Allahpundit were to appear in a burqa, he could broadcast video with complete freedom.
Kralizec on August 15, 2009 at 5:44 PM
:) excellent speech.
c4 on August 15, 2009 at 5:51 PM
Well done Ed – good speech.
Let’s have some more.
I can’t help but compare Ed’s performance to Markos Moulitsas’s – somehow Ed comes across as more rational and less hysterical, personal bias aside.
Anders on August 15, 2009 at 5:53 PM
Well done Ed!
This is NOT a Healthcare Bill, it is NOT an Insurance Reform Bill, it is a Deathcare Reform Bill!
It will, by necessity, ration care!
Rationed by some czar or board of czars unelected and unapproved by congress. This will be the death of the weakest among us, the political opponents of socialism are in great peril.
This has the potential to make the Clintoons use of the IRS against their enemies look like amateur hour.
Think about a regime that would shut down descent, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh.
A regime that would destroy Joe the Plumber or Sarah Palin.
A regime that would allow a baby, born alive, the product of a botched abortion to die screaming in a closet.
Tell me this regime would not use the rationing of heathcare against their enemies, a list that is as we speak being compiled through neighbor ratting on neighbor. Tell me this would not happen if you can bring yourself to deny it!
A regime that would take taxpayer dollars to fund unions, UAW, and political organizations, ACORN, and use these same orgaizations to attack the private citizens contractual agreements for compensation, AIG, would absolutely guage the individuals worth based on their political philosophy!
Deathcare NOT Healthcare!
dhunter on August 15, 2009 at 5:54 PM
Time for a repeat.
Sapwolf on August 15, 2009 at 6:01 PM
I thought it was Ziggy preparing to speak at the intro.
multiuseless on August 15, 2009 at 6:25 PM
I’m also new around here but I want to add mine to the kudos you’re receiving, Ed. It was an excellent speech and very well delivered. I was only sad that it was so short!
Bobbi on August 15, 2009 at 6:51 PM
I just wish that people would stop talking about the Constitution and mix it with “democracy”.
Our Founding Fathers created a Constitutional Republic where majority rules, and abhorred democracy.
AlreadyKnownAs on August 15, 2009 at 7:01 PM
Magnificent speech Ed!! You are speaking truth to power as an authentic journalist should. Notice I said truth not manufactured grievences and Marxist ideology like with the MSM. Truth is not relative just as theft is not moral.
As Allahpundit said,You’ve broken Olbermann’s heart, Ed. I hope he is crying in his bathtub.
DeathB4Tyranny on August 15, 2009 at 7:14 PM
Great speech Ed. I’m so pleased to hear you, or any speaker stand up for property rights. I believe it is the single most important “right” Americans have.
The Founders had such a good understanding of human nature. They knew that people would work harder, for anything, if the incentive is there to reap the benefits of their own labor.
In Socialistic countries, there are no incentives, and therefore less of everything.

To Ed’s point about protecting the right of Doctors to make a profit. . . like Farmers. Why do they protect Farmers’ profits? No profits no farmers, no farmers no food. Now replace farmers with doctors and food with health care.

Good speech. I wished it was longer. Need more like this.

Good Speech. I’d love to hear a fully developed keynoter from Ed.
Mark30339 on August 15, 2009 at 8:10 PM
Ed,
You are not the RINO King I thought you were. You are a Patriot Champion for American Prosperity. I guess Oberdouche will take you off his list of favs. You are now infamous.
Geochelone on August 15, 2009 at 8:18 PM
Right on, Cap’n. Right on!
One’s individual rights are basically one’s prerogatives to do stuff (or not) and, especially, to not have stuff done to one; they are not carte blanche for one to get stuff (not even life’s necessities, such as cupcakes) not otherwise duly earned.
ConScribe on August 15, 2009 at 8:30 PM
Thanks Dasher.

Dude. you da man! That was mighty fine speaking. Olby could use a few lessons from you tho. hehe
hawkman on August 15, 2009 at 10:39 PM
Ed, that was a great speech but I wish you were slower in the delivery. Maybe I’m just used to reading your ideas and having the time to mull over what you wrote. Now I have to watch it again and hit the pause button throughout. And that makes me feel feeble minded.

Texyank on August 16, 2009 at 12:18 AM
…damn, Ed.
…just…DAMN.
RUN, ED, RUN! No, not because he gave an eloquent speech, but because he gave a speech where he laid out the basics of American rights, and showed a clear and comprehensive understanding of the founding principles of this nation.
Can you even begin to imagine what this country would transform into if we could get people like Ed into all the positions of power?
MadisonConservative on August 16, 2009 at 1:18 AM
Good job, Ed, on a very basic point that is somehow being forgotten.
Nichevo on August 16, 2009 at 6:29 AM
Nice speech. But, even Lindsey Graham can sound like a conservative when talking about founding principles.
John McCain gave a lot of nice speeches, but then he voted against ANWR; he screwed us on the gang of 14; he backed an early version of Cr*p and Trade with Joe Lieberman, and he was the ringleader of the original Shamnesty. And Ed, I do believe you were a BIG supporter of Backdoor John. Speeches are nice, but actions are louder than words. I’m sure someone will keep the RINO throne warm until you’re ready for it again.
It would be pretty much the same. Every politician I’ve seen makes tons of pretty speeches and then goes off and does whatever the hell they want once the election is over. Give the bootlicking a rest, why don’t you?
austinnelly on August 16, 2009 at 1:32 PM
Am a newbie here also. WOW!! Great Speech Ed!! Somthing about a bald guy ;-)….seriously tho….I just recently came upon HA, and have ‘lurked’ for a while, but am now brave enough to comment here and there…..thanks for allowing me to give my 2c’s worth from time to time!!
Onward Forward and Upward!!

In the general election, yes. In the primary, no.
Ed Morrissey on August 16, 2009 at 3:16 PM
Way to knock it out of the park Ed!!! They should play that speech in Civics/Governemnt class in every skrewl in the US! More people need to learn the real meaning of our Constitution! Thank you so much for being one of the shining voices of reason in this calamity of insanity that has overtaken a large percentage of our country!
BadMojo on August 16, 2009 at 4:23 PM
Great speech Ed! Love the new hair cut – welcome to the club (I shave my head as well).
And speaking of your haircut – does this now mean that Pelosi can claim a neo-nazi is one of the rights’ stalwart bloggers? =)

Nicely done, Ed. Thanks Allah, as always, for posting the video link. You guys make me proud to be a part of the Hot Air community. :)
itzWicks on August 16, 2009 at 6:04 PM
Well done, Captain Ed. You expand on a fundamental right that makes America the exceptional nation that she is. Property rights are fundamental; the individual as a self-determiner is king.
The whole thrust of Atlas Shrugged takes its cue from the individual’s right to his own ideas, his own creativity, his own creations, his own products, and so on.
Back in the day, when I taught American literature in high school, I loved watching students come alive with the ideas of Emerson’s “Self Reliance”. The principles of our founding documents resonate with similar appeals to our love of individuality and liberty.
Come back to our fair city often.
onlineanalyst on August 16, 2009 at 7:17 PM
I’m disappointed that Ed didn’t end the speech with air piano.
ignorantapathy on August 16, 2009 at 7:25 PM
Great job, Ed–I had to wait until I had time at home to view.
That’s how I felt when I was able to finally register as a commenter here…
Excellent idea–this is the type of “organizing” Obama’s groups did, and it worked great for him. We need to develope our “grassroots” commonalities. This is what the Tea Party movement is trying to achieve–and what the elites in the RNC are ignoring. They are letting the blog owners do all the “leg work”.
We will literally have to “step away from our computers” and get involved in politics in a physical, time-consuming way. There was no more liberating feeling than what I felt, when I locked my door and turned to get in my car– with the sign I had made for my local Tea Pary!
To think our ancesters managed to create a revolution without Twitter, cellphones or the computer They only had the symbolism of a single man on horseback crying “the Brittish are coming!” This became multipied as more “horsemen” took to the roads
HOTAIR is composed of multiple “Paul Revere’s”–and I think this site embodies the principles of our Founding Father’s–BF (Benjamin Franklin) would be so proud…do you think he would Twitter?
