Quotes of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on August 15, 2009 by Allahpundit
“‘I just lost my grandmother last year. I know what it’s like to watch somebody you love, who’s aging, deteriorate and have to struggle with that,’ an impassioned Obama told a crowd as he spoke of Madelyn Payne Dunham. He took issue with ‘the notion that somehow I ran for public office or members of Congress are in this so they can go around pulling the plug on grandma.’”
***
“A commenter on the Whole Foods forum, identified only by his handle, ‘PracticePreach,’ wrote, ‘It is an absolute slap in the face to the millions of progressive-minded consumers that have made [Whole Foods] what it is today.’
‘You should know who butters your hearth-baked bread, John,’ wrote the commenter.”

BB, where are you coming from?
There would be four of us from MN, and if it’s a go we are rendezvousing at the Korean War memorial with a few other veterans we know from that area and then heading for wherever the action is. If things get heated, we plan on loitering and following the wave.

Bishop, when we were up there on Tax Day my favorite places were the war memorials. My grandfather served in WWII and I thought that one was beautiful. I broke down on the Vietnam memorial. I was commenting to my mom about the distinction of being the last man on the wall and I lost it. It was so emotional. I am looking forward to showing all the sights to my husband.

Well there ya go, if you can find the Korean War memorial you could find us and all would be golden. You wouldn’t have to stay with my crowd of course, we plan on looking for people who don’t agree with us and getting to know them, but you would probably have to meet us afterward to get a place to stay.
Anyway, at this point nothing is set but I’ll keep you in mind if it all works out for me and the boys to get out there.

Wait a minute. Whole Foods was providing exactly what Lent wanted. Lent is certainly welcome to go elsewhere — in fact, several elsewheres, but he needs to think about what he will be doing to the environment while he does so.
I have to love liberals — they always get themselves into these lose-lose situations. And, as we’ve witnessed, the moment they grow up and get rich, they shut down their giving in favor of making other rich people who can’t protect their loopholes give instead.
I also love Mackey’s pointing out the ultimate Thatcherian thought — “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.”

No time or date set, though the basic plan is to hop aboard the express to hell a few days prior to 9/12; trailer the bikes in a custom shell and head for Baltimore. Meet up with my old friend out there, maybe carouse locally beforehand and then head in very early on the big day.

Cindy:
G’night. W/r/t IRS, I was tweeting about a part of this on 8/14 (Twitter.com/raybury).
Around page 167, the House bill includes an individual mandate and punishes non-compliance with a tax of the lesser 2.5% of taxable year income or the national average premium, prorated for the period you were not covered by an “acceptable” plan. You can avoid the tax by keeping your current “grandfathered” coverage (until you change jobs or the plan is cancelled) or get a plan that complies with all the fun requirements Congress will impose.
(The whole page 16 thing does not mean you will need to go to the “public” plan, but will have to have a plan that Big Brother Barack approves.)
Oh, you can also avoid the tax by being Amish. Or belonging to another religion that meets government approval as providing for alternative coverage, so long as it existed before 1951 and MEETS GOVERNMENT APPROVAL.
I certainly favor individual responsibility, and current provisions for COBRA (feds paying 65%) make it a lot easier to be responsible. But imposing a tax over a choice, albeit a dumb one in most cases, is very different from the current incentive to keep coverage at all costs:
Because with health insurance your finances might be ruined for a very long time, or you might not get the degree of care someone with insurance would, with the life-and-death and quality-of-life consequences that carries.

I’m sure that there will be a thread closer to the event on the 12th. Maybe we can finalize something. If nothing more than to present more “hoodlums in leather jackets” like we were called during the Gathering of Eagles. Good times! I’m pretty sure I talked to Michelle Malkin at that event, but she had a tobaggan on during that event, I kept saying to myself “I know her”. My heart will be broken if she replies she wasn’t there….
I’ll go to work Monday to see how many I can round up for a ride.

OT:
Yale’s motto, Lux et Veritas [Light and Truth ]has been obliterated in this shameful effort to pursue not light and truth, but Islamic approval. And Yale University Press will get that approval because it has proven that it operates under Islamic law (sharia), which prohibits both images of Mohammed, and criticism of Mohammed. And woe to anyone who draws or publishes a critical image of Mohammed.
Last night, I picked up a 1967 book called The Battle of Silence by Vercors, the alias of J. Bruller. It is the wartime memoir by the publisher of a secret anti-Nazi press run in the midst of Nazi-occupied Paris. The first sentence is unforgettable:
When the Nazis occupied France after the defeat of 1940, French writers had two alternatives: collaboration or silence.
The parrallels are distinct if incomplete. The Nazis imposed the censorship by force; The Muslims are imposing censorship by threat of force backed up by occasional bloodlettings. Yale has many, many alternatives — publish the pictures, for Chrissake — but it has seized on the two natural reactions of the already-enslaved: collaboration and silence.

To the future or to the past, to a time when thought is free, when men are different from one another and do not live alone–to a time when truth exists and what is done cannot be undone: From the age of uniformity, from the age of solitude, from the age of Big Brother, from the age of doublethink–greetings!

Funny how Bill Maher never insults Mohammed.
Why’s that?
Maybe because Bill is a coward.
If he ever did, I’d be a little jealous I was not muslim.
You have to respect how they don’t take sh*t, even if you like me find their religion tyrannical.
Let this be a lesson to the right. You don’t get nearly enough respect if you let the left run over you.

No, they’re going to compassionate “voluntary” consultations, where thy try to convince grandma, or some family member of grandma’s, that the “right” thing to do, is to tell her own doctor to “pull the plug.”
So much more ethical, that way.

Whole Foods has always had high quality produce and fresh meats and a great bakery. Knowledgeable consumers will always support great products delivered with great service. My ONLY problem with the stores, and why I don’t shop there more oftenm is the liberal nutroots circus in there. Maybe this will clear some of the KOOKs out of there and make the shopping more enjoyable.

Obama tries to give the impression that he was in personal contact with his grandmother on a regular, if not daily, basis.
The compassionate, caring grandson.
B.S.
But how many times did he visit her in the last 15 years? Maybe 2,3 times?
(How many times did she come to visit him in the last 15 years? Probably zero.)
His grandfather also died – no mention of those visits to the dying grandfather…
And he doesn´t mention the fact that when his mother was dying he did not visit her and was not even there when she died.
