As someone who lives in MA and has RI insurance that MA doesn't recognize as "valid" health insurance (thus incurring an annual $1068 penalty on my MA income tax), I say THIS is the best reason among many reasons to vote the thing down.

And may I add: never EVER vote for that two-faced socialist Mitt Romney for any office higher than dog-catcher.

<blockquote> And I’m going to comment on the fact that Specter changed parties. that pleases me. when he loses his seat thats another pickup for the Republicans.

</blockquote>I'm not convinced Specter will even win the Dem nomination with Sostek (sp?) running for it. His performances in these televised town halls were terrible and can't have won him any support.

AnninCA - It is a damned hard topic to talk about and get straight. I do understand the impulse to want everyone covered, wouldn't we all love that? And bring down costs? Make it affordable? Yet we are, time and again, reminded that government is not so good at any of those three things. I am not well and have had some of the very best the government has try to find out what was going wrong with me during an NIH study I volunteered for... I felt that if one cannot participate in the fighting overseas that one must, without fail, do something to support the common man at home. Really, I urge people to do that...

Then thinking about my time in the federal government as an individual who did, indeed, have to figure out just how productive a person was and cost that out for projects and programs... the nuts and bolts of how bureaucracy works... I was dismayed to see how little of what we put in goes out in the way of productive work. I revisit that topic again and again comparing government to industry average... then I remembered that industry, itself, <a href="http://ajacksonian.blogspot.com/2009/08/price-vs-value.html" rel="nofollow">has one, final competitor if we run a fair market</a>. It is hard to remember this, but the wish to get everyone covered does not start at the top. We don't give it to government for a reason: it can't do the things that we, as individuals, can do.

If you want low overhead, people dedicated to squeezing out excess cost and delivering services with as little added to it in cost as possible, then we, as a people, must empower that third area. It ran our health care for the poor for over a century before we unfairly subsidized industry to do it. The poor were looked after, they did not die on the streets save during the Spanish Flu and then a lot of people were doing that regardless of monetary backing. I worked in the government, I know better than to hand it something large and complex that must be tailored to each and every individual citizen's needs.

Instead of the single payer I trust YOU to do what is right in your view. Your liberty I trust more than any government mandate in this realm. I want you to have the power to do as best you can for your fellow man and not hand that off to any government bureaucrat who will make of it, at best, a two-thirds hearted effort and at worst a one-third one. I want a true competitor to industry to keep it honest, and industry not to be favored with tax breaks. Together, each of us, if we really care for the poor, needy, the sick... we can get that done. I will not have any sick person go through what I had to go through PLUS have to jump through more government hoops. I love my fellow American and want the best for them, not to see them die of a bureaucracy. Government is not the answer. Nor is industry on its own as it must have the people pick up for those it fails to cover. We can not do that with industry supported by government as that gives it unfair advantage of you, over me and over our fellow citizens.

It is, indeed, a hard topic to get through.

I revisit that topic again and again comparing government to industry average… then I remembered that industry, itself, has one, final competitor if we run a fair market. It is hard to remember this, but the wish to get everyone covered does not start at the top. We don’t give it to government for a reason: it can’t do the things that we, as individuals, can do.

I worked in the government, I know better than to hand it something large and complex that must be tailored to each and every individual citizen’s needs.

Together, each of us, if we really care for the poor, needy, the sick… we can get that done.

<em>Incredibly, AnninCa says that Palin and Obama have the same views on abortion.

I say, AC must be high.

I live in Chicago and have known of Obama and his murderous abortion record for a long time. And yes, Obama does believe that babies who survive an abortion should be left to die in soiled utility closets - and he has the votes to prove that.

However, you don't have to live in Chicago to know how throughly evil Obama's positions are on the protection of innocent human life.

Below, I have done just a brief search, regarding Palin's pro-life views. Anyone with the most basic of comprehesive abilities can see that Obama and Palin are complete opposites when it comes to the Right To Life.</em>

Regarding her pro-life position, Sarah Palin wrote to the Alaska Right to Life Board in 2002: "[I am] pro-life as any candidate can be [and have] adamantly supported our cause since I first understood, as a child, the atrocity of abortion."
From: http://www.godvoter.org/Sarah-Palin-pro-life.htmlam]

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- In a decision that's sure to unite the pro-life advocates behind his campaign, presidential candidate John McCain selected pro-life champion Sarah Palin as his pick for vice president. Palin, the 44-year-old governor of Alaska, takes a strong pro-life position on both abortion and bioethics issues. From: http://www.lifenews.com/nat4231.html

That earned her praise from Alaska Right to Life, the state's leading pro-life group. Its former president Bob Bird wrote in January that Palin has been "a pro-life stalwart every year since she entered the political scene" and said she "gave an encouraging speech for the pro-lifers in attendance at the 'Proudly Pro-Life Banquet'" the group sponsored.

Earlier this year, Palin rejected adding debates over a partial-birth abortion ban and parental consent measure to the special legislative session. While that may have seemed like a rejection of the pro-life position, Palin said legislative leaders have given her no plan for successfully passing the bills.

While she would have preferred to see the bills put into law, she had no guarantee that spending significant amounts of taxpayer funds on the special session would result in a bill that would be sent to her desk to sign.

The bills were held up in the Senate because of pro-abortion Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Hollis French. Palin said she would be supportive "if the Senate president can show a path to success."

Palin was disappointed "Senate President Green did not exhaust every possible option during the regular session to move the legislation." From: http://www.lifenews.com/state3460.html
