Please prove that it was wrong to subject Laura Bush to political attacks through the basic rules of civility handbook. My assertion was that families are not off limits…there are no legal precedents, no written guides, and that people of the United States of America are free to be aholes if they want to.

There is an excellent printed guidebook, which contains all the basic rules of civility one could need.

It’s called the Bible.
Try Matthew 25:40 “Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me.”
And, Luke 6:31 “Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.”

These rules are widely accepted by many, and practiced by many, so they should suffice.

Exactly, Ed. And a poor salesman at that, not listening to his customer’s objections. Instead of recognizing he has a product defect and going back and making some changes, he just keeps pushing the product. Being a true narcissist, it’s impossible for him to admit he’s wrong and he hears our complaints. Instead, he believes we just haven’t seen the light yet and recognize the miracle product he has so he keeps selling.

Absolutely no doubt about that. Though I do think you are overlooking McCain’s propensity to cut deals with Democrats including hard left individuals like Feingold and Kennedy. Given the fact that McCain was more interested in courting Democrats than energizing his base, I suspect he would have been a President that would have been brokering deals with the other side and ignoring the concerns of social conservatives like me.

I didn’t totally overlook it but I was hoping that between being POTUS and letting VPOTUS bend his ear (or twist it), he wouldn’t have as much opportunity. As Senator, he’s got too much time on his hands and too much time on the Sunday talk shows. As President, I hoped he would be more insulated.

Alas, we’ll never know. I’m all for moving forward on potential candidates for 2012. He’s one of my Senators too so I’m all for moving forward with his replacement if one steps up. That stunt he pulled with Feingold/Kennedy and with the immigration closed door fiasco was enough for me as my Senator. Somehow I don’t think that will happen in 2010. Jeff Flake is my district rep and I like him except I think he is wishy-washy on immigration reform and he is probably doing more good in the House right now, IMO. Next time maybe.

I strongly disagree, with regard to Michelle Obama. She campaigned, made highly-ideological speeches, continues to be actively involved in policy.

They use her to prop up The One’s declining popularity. She basks in MSM adoration.

Not only is it OK to attack her. It’s obligatory.
