Video: ObamaCare fans take Astroturfing to a new level; Mayer an OFA organizer

posted at 10:11 am on August 13, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Patterico and Lone Star Times capture yet another banner moment from a town-hall forum hosted by Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX) . In this clip, Roxana Mayer introduces herself as a doctor (a general practitioner for four years) in order to support ObamaCare and Jackson-Lee in a fairly hostile crowd. For her efforts, she gets a big hug from the Congresswoman, an image which the Houston Chronicle featured prominently on their website coverage of the event.

But was Mayer really a doctor?

Not only was Mayernot a doctor, Roxana Mayer was an Obama delegate, as Patterico discovered with some digging.  What’s more, the Houston Chronicle apparently knew this and failed to include it in its glowing coverage of Mayer’s appearance.  The reporter, Cindy Horswell, has admitted that she knew Mayer was an Obama delegate and that Mayer didn’t live in Jackson-Lee’s district when she wrote the Chronicle story.  After getting exposed, the Chronicle quietly changed the caption on the photo without issuing a correction, removing the reference to Mayer being a doctor.

Be sure to read all of the posts for a great rundown of an excellent catch by Patterico and Lone Star Times.  At the moment, no one has any evidence that Jackson-Lee, the White House, or Organizing for America had anything to do with getting this imposter the microphone to ask a sympathetic question and make sympathetic declarations at the town-hall forum.  However, the odds of that happening as a coincidence with an Obama delegate seem a little long.

Update: Those odds just got a little longer.  Guess who was a lead organizer for OfA back in March 2008?  Thanks to Allahpundit for tipping me to this!

Update II: Right Wing Sparkle calls OfA “shameless.”

You NEED to drag at LEAST one person to the polls with you! People forget, get lazy, think that one vote doesn’t count, make other plans, feel sick…there are a MILLION reasons and excuses people use at the last minute! Don’t let your friends and acquaintances get away with this! Oh, and make sure they support our guy, of course! So whether you vote early or on the 4th, DON’T SHOW UP ALONE!
Thanks,
Roxana Mayer

Ohhh ho ho ho—booo ya. Santa Claus just dropped off this nifty little package…. well well well..

Nice that she says “don’t show up alone.” Funny she doesn’t say anything about bringing a lab coat or the medical license that you got from da place where The Won got his birf certificate.

We are, like, so poor, almost nonexistent at treating preventative care. Um, I know because I’m a general practitioner. We are a dying breed.

I dunno, sounds like a doctor to me.

I have a degree from U of H, in engineering. So, I, um am now entering my third partnership in, like, public accountancy.

well except for the willful misuse of government resources, office, and charge of duty yeah they are exactly the same….

of course I suppose that the poor lass in question, victim of an evil white society that actually requires licenses will not get her license to practice social work….

Care to lay money on that being the case with you saying “her life is destroyed” and mine saying “she is connected and will suffer as much blowback as the NBPP in Philly”?

sven10077 on August 13, 2009 at 10:41 AM

Uhhmmm, its like, we are all just so mean. I mean, that we should expect the Chronicle reporter to figure out like she is not a doctor, you know????

Read the LST post again. Look who is sitting NEXT to not Dr. Roxana Mayer. It is Che loving moonbat Maria Isabel. Now what are the chances of THAT? Both sitting in the front row? Look at the clipboard on Maria’s lap. She has printed talking points. The anti-ObamaCare protesters are all 5 or 6 rows back.

This is no coincidence. SJL or her staff is staking the deck, with fake Drs. and flaming idiots. If they are this bad at Axelturfing, what makes us think they can run healthcare???

King of Katy on August 13, 2009 at 10:41 AM

I wish Glenn or O’Reilly or Drudge would pick this up. From a little of what I’ve read, she’s in an Allied Health program (people have already reported her), it is illegal in Texas to present yourself as a physician when not (people have reported her) but what riles me is she was a real haughty b++ch when outed.

jeff_from_mpls on August 13, 2009 at 10:45 AM

I’m a “constituent” of Sheila Jackson Lee, and likely will be for a good long while as her district is heavily and obviously gerrymandered.

She’s a terrible person in almost every way, and even the lefty Houston Press has been all over her pork and perk abuses, and her haughty imperial attitude.

And now the Houston Chronicle is handed a huge scandal, in which SJL actively and knowingly participates in this hoax, and what we get from them is almost total silence. You have to read the “Texassparkle” blog even to learn about it. It’s worse than silence, with the air-brushing of the original caption.

No wonder the Chronicle is in trouble. No one looks to it for any meaningful investigative journalism any longer.

How about
a) Joe the Plumber was an innocent bystander who just asked a simple question. Suddenly the whole world knew about his tax leins. By contrast, these people are plants. Activists who pretend they are not.
b) Investigating that they are plants is not the same as investigating that Joe has some financial difficulties.
c) Slandering Joe is not the same as telling the truth about someone who set out to deceive the American people.
