Video: Guy who won’t listen to answers grills woman who won’t listen to questions

posted at 7:38 pm on August 13, 2009 by Allahpundit

It’s painfully awkward and it’s blue on blue, which means it’s fun for the whole conservative family. The subject here is Jackson-Lee’s rudeness when she decided to take a cell phone break at that town hall while, er, someone was asking her a question. “Why were you so rude?” isn’t a question that should take three and a half minutes to answer, but then “I was asking for information” isn’t an answer that should warrant another three and a half minutes of questions. Frankly, after watching SJL filibuster this way, I’m thinking maybe she did her constituents a favor when she tuned out to take that call.

Even better than a town hall where the congressman isn’t listening? A town hall where the congressman is represented by an empty chair!

Maybe its a ‘doctored video’?

Is she on crack or is her brain just plain fried?

Good Lord how in the world do people like her (and others like her) get elected and stay in office???

Check out the second video I linked above. Jackson was getting info from her people about local pols that were in the audience. She would get a call, and then a minute later she would welcome the local pols. The second video clearly shows how mad the people were, how rude Jackson was being, and what she was doing wrt the phone calls. The first video I linked has Tracy explaining this as well.

Jackson was flat out lying. If she was doing that, you are exactly right, she would have told the audience.

guntotinglibertarian on August 13, 2009 at 8:51 PM

Yeah am not really believing the whole hotline thing either. And if she told the audience that she was going to call the hotline to ask a question why were her constituents still asking questions? I would think the audience would end questioning her until she got the information that she was supposedly going to get from the hotline. So I’m having a hard time believing her.

terryannonline on August 13, 2009 at 8:35 PM

Yeah, there didn’t seem to be anything particularly unique about the young woman’s question that would have elicited a special call when no other question on a townhall that lasted an hour or so caused Jackson-Lee to call into a hotline.

In fact, the townhaller wasn’t even finished asking the question when Jackson-Lee made or took the phone call, so how could she know what information she needed to answer? If she legitimately needed help to answer a question from a constituent, she would have heard out the question and excused herself to get it answered, no?

And is this “hot line” unique to Jackson-Lee? We haven’t seen any other Congressperson mention it. God knows we’ve seen plenty who could have used a special hot line.

When we hear again and again that we need to pay more taxes to pay for “benefits” to people who won’t work for a living, we’re racists.

When we sit and watch the House of Representatives give a moment of silence to a black child molester, we’re racists.

When we see thieves and criminals like Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters be overwhelmingly re-elected time after time, we’re racists.

When we see a woman like Sheila Jackson Lee who couldn’t manage a Popeye’s franchise lord it over us, we’re racists.

Yes, many of those points are correct in that it is WRONG behavior. However, this is nothing new — white people have organized around fellow whites and have been known to gerrymander according to racial & ideological lines in order to win elections. It’s WRONG no matter how it’s sliced, but it is no excuse to take your frustration with it and paint all non-white people with a broad brush. Doing so makes you just as intellectually weak and racially motivated as those you claim to be arguing against.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom for that speech which I agree with and censorship for that which I do not. It means putting up with speech that offends as often as not.

There are a lot of us poor racist (by many minorities claims) white folks who really genuinely are not racists and are getting really damned angry about being accused of being racists every time some minority wants to win an argument.

Enough with the damned accusation of racists already….

Haha “white-guilt”.

This is hilarious.

How is it white-guilt to notice that NEARLY ALL threads on this site that have a BLACK PERSON on it devolve into a racial discussion even if the subject at hand has nothing to do with race? It’s the exact same thing that happens among the liberals that you argue against who turn happenings that could be explained otherwise into racially motivated grievances. This tendency is not helpful to ANYONE. Each side is simply reinforcing each other’s argument instead of dismantling it for the garbage “reasoning” that it is.

OK. You think she’s a race hustler. Then why go and hand her keys to yet another term?

If you want change, you’re going to have to begin with your immense amount of better options besides despicable racial chicanery.

How about we start with the facts? You mention one fact – the district map. Well you can’t change it without a huge task force and majority support in Texas. Isn’t it more likely you could elect her opponent in a primary or the general and if so, are you going to have play the racial hustle to achieve victory?

SJL stands on very weak ground right now, but with your help she can turn that foundation of sand into a foundation of concrete.

gabriel sutherland on August 13, 2009 at 10:42 PM

“Rude” and “disrespectful” aren’t words I’d've used. More like “condescending” and “uncaring”. It would’ve been nice if the guy would’ve really hacked into her filibuster by specifically telling her she was filibustering, and warning her that if she continues to do so, he’ll have no problem ending the interview, on the grounds of he’ll get just as much information without her active participation. If you can have a town hall meeting with an empty chair, I don’t see why you can’t have an interview with one.

Looks like the thread has been cleaned up.

But, has GTL been banned? or did he just settle down?

massrighty on August 13, 2009 at 10:44 PM

And people actually vote for her? Really?

Yes. They do. And they’re Americans just as open to changing their vote as the 53% that now disapprove of the President.

Don’t belittle the voters. You need them. Engage them.

gabriel sutherland on August 13, 2009 at 10:44 PM

I should have watched this video first. Greta’s was still nuttier, I think, because Greta let her run off into la la land, but I have to say that from the first video, “Maybe it’s a doctored video?” was a friggin’ classic! That’s a 9.6 on the Dean scale.

progressoverpeace on August 13, 2009 at 10:45 PM

The overall interview on Greta was a 9.8 on the Dean scale.

progressoverpeace on August 13, 2009 at 10:47 PM

I can’t watch the clip for the same reason I can’t stomach the the ‘Ed’ clip. Two boring ugly stupid dull libs talking is more than I can take.
The question that has to be asked is why are so many libs dorky looking or acting. It’s tv you know, Ed and Allah don’t have to worry about because the are blogging.
Rick sanchez is the counter argument to Evoultion. Java man was supposed to have died many years ago but here you have Rick still evolving with limited speech capabilities

kangjie on August 13, 2009 at 10:52 PM

Look, you can say all you want to about white/black, this woman is a monster! She is the female Elmer Gantry of our times. She is so full of shit that an ass hole like Rick Sanchez is blown away. This woman is the same one that used to hang over the aisle when President GWB came into the halls of Congress to give his state of the union speech. She always wore red and bullied other members so that she could be seen shaking hands with GWB to be seen on TV. This is the opposite of the person that people of DARK colored skin should elect to represent them. God, elect someone that has some common sense and can carry on an intelligent debate pro and con on any subject. She is the same mensa that thought we had landed MEN on mars!

doctored video

SJL just had a Cynthia McKinney moment.

inspectorudy on August 13, 2009 at 11:18 PM

Exactly, she’s such an easy target why even bring up race? It just distracts from the legitimate issue.

29Victor on August 13, 2009 at 11:36 PM

this is too easy: if what this disgraceful woman says is true about her calling some health care reform hotline is true…then her Iphone log should show who she called and when.

Too easy.

Mike D. on August 13, 2009 at 11:37 PM

I can’t believe I just watched this and I can not believe that anyone with even three brain cells could pull the lever with her name next to it.

margategop517 on August 13, 2009 at 11:39 PM

SJL is full of male cow excrement, and claiming the video was “doctored” is beyond the pale. I’m damn glad she isn’t my rep, she’s just ripping us taxpayers and her constituents off for her $170K a year. :( No one can waste money like the government!

Mike D. on August 13, 2009 at 11:37 PM

If it’s true then it’s more pathetic than anything I think I ever heard of in my life. If it’s not true, then it’s even worse.

The only way it could be appropriate is if it was her poodle on the other end (on speaker phone), or something. The dog people would feel for her.

Being a commenter on HotAir is not a constitutional right.

terryannonline on August 13, 2009 at 9:29 PM

Nor is health care……….

sherryande on August 14, 2009 at 12:21 AM

She listened to Greta just as much as her constituents – Now, Sheila wants a grape juice summit…….

sherryande on August 14, 2009 at 12:23 AM

In her list of things they were talking about in the insurance reform bill, “the elimination of pre existing diseases” huh, what?

jbinnout on August 14, 2009 at 12:32 AM

Sheila Jackson-Lee is a disgrace.

I used to live in Dallas (Which, thank God, is nowhere near Lee’s district), and I have to say that she was (and is) an embarrassement to *all* of us… not just her constituents.

progressoverpeace on August 13, 2009 at 10:45 PM

Personally, I thought she was going to go with the “evil twin” defense.

Now I’m out ten bucks.

logis on August 14, 2009 at 1:30 AM

I strongly dislike Rick “Dirty” Sanchez…

Keef Overbite on August 14, 2009 at 1:44 AM

Geez, its pretty sad when Rick Sanchex questions SJL this toughly. And her asking if the tape may be doctored? Give me a break!

logis on August 14, 2009 at 1:30 AM

You’ll get more chances to win it back. She can’t stay on the “doctored video” line for too long.
