Report: Edwards to admit that mistress’s baby is his

And so, more than a year after Silky lied his ass off on ABC about the baby not being his, he’s finally ready to come clean. How appropriate that the Enquirer, which dragged big media to this story kicking and screaming, apparently forced the final revelation with yesterday’s report on a secret DNA test confirming paternity. WRAL TV in North Carolina delivers the coup de grace:
Sources have told WRAL News that they expect former U.S. Sen. John Edwards to admit that he is the father of his former mistress’ 18-month-old daughter.
Edwards, a two-time Democratic presidential candidate, confessed last August to having an affair with Rielle Hunter, who served as a videographer on Edwards’ 2008 campaign. He has denied fathering her daughter, saying his relationship with Hunter ended before the child was conceived…
A federal grand jury is investigating whether Edwards’ campaign funds were illegally paid to Hunter to keep quiet about the affair…
Sources said Edwards’ public admission could come before the end of the criminal investigation.
The rumors of hush money laundered through the campaign have also been around for ages. From what I remember of how this all played out, Silky caught a bad break when his pal/money man Fred Baron died. It was Baron who had been sending payments to Hunter and fall guy Andrew Young, supposedly out of simple kindness towards a couple that was in a tough spot. Once Baron died and the money stopped flowing, Young started angling for a book deal and the dominoes began falling, making this a rare scandal where pretty much everything was exactly what it looked like and played out exactly as you’d expect.
Here’s a trip down memory lane from last August, a few days before Hunter’s sister felt obliged to remark publicly on how much the baby looked like Silky. Skip ahead to 45 seconds in. Exit quotation:
WOODRUFF: I need to ask about probably the most controversial allegation. Which is that a report has been published that the baby of Ms. Hunter is your baby. True?
EDWARDS: Not true. Published in a supermarket tabloid. That is absolutely not true.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — The Secret Service is investigating a man who authorities said held a sign reading “Death to Obama” outside a town hall meeting on health-care reform in western Maryland.
The sign also read, “Death to Michelle and her two stupid kids,” referring to the first name of President Barack Obama’s wife, said Washington County Sheriff’s Capt. Peter Lazich.
Lazich said deputies detained the unidentified, 51-year-old man near the entrance to Hagerstown Community College about 1 p.m. Wednesday after getting calls from a number of people attending the meeting held by Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md. Obama was not at the meeting.
The sheriff’s office turned the man over to the Secret Service, Lazich said.
Barbara Golden, special agent in charge of the agency’s Baltimore field office, said Thursday that an investigation is ongoing but declined further comment. A spokesman at the agency’s Washington headquarters also declined to discuss the investigation.
Police said there were no other arrests among the nearly 1,000 people, some carrying protest signs, who came to the college for the meeting or demonstrated off-campus.
Cardin’s national communications director, Sue Walitsky, called the incident “unfortunate.” She said she was unaware of it until Thursday morning.
Kudos to the protesters who reported this idiot. Like i previously said, we may sometimes disagree on ways to run this country but at the end of the day, we are all Americans who respect and love each other

While I don’t care about Mr. Edwards one whit, my question is how does a secret DNA test become public?
Oh, I mean I know how it becomes public, of course. But is this what we wish the world to devolve to? As Joe the Plumber showed, one can expect that if he would ever be in a similiar situation, where one’s private records were out and about and public enemies were had, I have but little doubt that the records would become public while the enemies remained private.
But why should we respect this? We would not tolerate it if a paper busted into a man’s home in pursuit of a story, why then do we tolerate the leaks of things which the leakage thereof carries criminal penalty for the leaker–if caught?
I am, honestly, glad that the ruination of John Edwards has been completed. But I cannot accept the method of that ruination if it involved disclosing what the discloser had no right to disclose, for it means that we all need to understand that any of our records is probably only a reporter’s checkbook away from being the world’s plaything.

As I recall, the reason Edwards didn’t want to admit he was the father was because that would mean admitting he had continued to sleep with the mistress after he learned that his wife’s cancer had metatasized and her prognosis was grim. If Elizabeth had just hurried up and died already (as Edwards and the mistress were hoping), all this unpleasantness could have been avoided.
So in a way, it really is all the wife’s fault./

Edwards and Andrew Young are equally scummy: Edwards for so many obvious reasons and Young because he either a) told his wife and kids that he had an affair that he didn’t have, or b) told his wife and kids the truth but made them lie to cover for Edwards.

*Everyone knows the baby is his.
*He is obligated to support his child.
*He didn’t think he would be able to resurrect his political career, did he?
*Would he look like less a heel if he kept his mouth shut until his wife died? I dunno, so much dirt has already come out.
