New proof that all town-hall protesters are racist: Guy tears up woman’s Rosa Parks poster

posted at 1:25 pm on August 13, 2009 by Allahpundit

A “Larger Truth” brought to you by the same nutroots liars who now insist that eight years of Bush = Hitler rhetoric was fringe stuff that shouldn’t be used to tar the entire left. I suppose if you can believe that quoting the Boston Globe amounts to “stalking,” you can believe that fears of socialized medicine are really all about resegregating buses. Funny thing about this: The whole thing happens so fast, and the perpetrator’s angle of view is so acute, that it looks like he never even saw what was on the poster. As McCaskill herself — to her great credit — notes in the second clip below, this was almost certainly a case of overreaction to the “no signs allowed” policy at the town hall rather than some targeted attack on a civil-rights icon. But this is where our national “debate” is right now, so behold racism in action. QED.

No that was uncool. The lynching comment struck a particular chord with me. Especially since we know that lynchings *were* community events, often paired with a picnic and where children were encouraged to attend (a different kind of schoolhouse for a different kind of lesson). There was a whole series of lynching postcards made in the 20th century. http://www.withoutsanctuary.org. It’s just not a laughing matter to me. Guess mileage varies.

You are correct, evil perpetrated by democrats, the home and birth of the KKK.
In fact a KKK leader is still a democrat senator.
The Republicans fought against this, and many other democrat institutions of racism and bigotry. Culminating in Eisenhower sending in troops to protect black students as the democrats were calling for their death, and continued segregation. Even Martin Luther Kink knew the value of being a Republican…or do you think he was just a fool?
It is a shame that democrats fought so hard to not pass Eisenhower’s civil right bill, it wasn’t until Republican control of congress that it was finally passed…even against people like Gore and Byrd fighting so hard against civil rights.
Fortunately, conservative won out and so did the black community.

1. It’s some anonymous person on the internet, how do you even know if they are conservative?

2. Is it then fair for me to judge all other groups (race, creed, political party, based on a few examples that I choose?

3. Sarcasm does not translate well through text, if one person sees it as humorous or ironic, yet another person is offended, does that make it offensive automatically?

If you come in here defensive and looking for racism hidden behind every pixel, you’ll find it. I’m sure someone can take a cook book or a technical manual and find racism in it if they try hard enough.

Darker than 500,000 dead in a war to free the slaves?

guntotinglibertarian on August 13, 2009 at 3:11 PM

Oh is that what the Civil War was about these days? Ten years ago you coulnd’t find a conservatives who would admit the war was about slavery. It was about “state’s rights” or for the more nuanced, a struggle between industrialization and an agrarian economy. Indeed, those conservatives were about right. Abolitoinism was overwhelmingly unpopular in the north and the south during the sectional crisis. I suggest you read up on the Draft Riots in New York and many other northern cities, white Irish immigrants were *not* excited about fighting to free slaves, laborers who they envisioned as their chief competition for labor in an entire region of the country. Must I point your attention towards Lincoln’s desire for African repatriation to the continent?

The Civil War freed slaves as a tactic of war beginning in 1863. The war was not fought for emancipation, in fact, if you recall the act of secession itself, an act to protect slavery was the first “act of war.” And there was certainly not a consensus on abolition in the North. Please put down your “patriot’s history” and join the rest of us in reality. There’s a reason it took a whole other century for us to really address black second class citizenship in this country.

History is not your strong suit…up to the 60′s (before the “great society”). Blacks had the lowest crime rate, the lowest divorce rate, and one of the highest unemployment rates of any nationality. The highest percentage of church attendance, and a low school drop out rate, in other words, they were a model community…exploding into the middle class and purchasing houses at a record rate.

*In white societies “waving the white flag” it is a sign of surrender by the opposing force. It is not meant as a subtle dig at Afro-Americans, people of Color and is meant as an all inclusive, non-pro-European figure of speech denoting you avoidance of the question rather than a Pro-White expression of victory. I’m genuinely curious what books you’ve read that allowed you to draw this conclusion. Seriously.

Because I’m not sure where you’re getting your historical facts from. Let’s just go over a few historical realities.

1. If you think that the most stable family unit is a non-working wife and a male laborer who financially supports the family than we can not really say that after emancipation there weren’t serious tensions placed on black family stability. We know, for example, that from the beginning of the reconstruction period black women worked outside of their own homes. Either as laundresses, or domestic servants in white households. We also know that even middle to working class white southern famiiies often employed black women as domestics to add to assist white women in their domestic labor and allowing them to focus on educating their kids at home (the most popular form of education in the south).

2. We know that if/when black men could find employment outside of sharecropping it would half to involve travel. Pullmancar porters, for example, was one of the best paying jobs black men could get (and the first unionized black labor force) but those jobs pulled men away from families and up and down the railcars.

3. When industrial employment was opened up to black men during the New Deal many left families behind in southern towns to take jobs in Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee etc. Sometimes eventually bringing the family with them, but alot of times not.

Look these things were realities and its not time for anyone to “apologize.” But if you’re going to claim that “welfare” broke down the black family in the 30s with the New Deal you’re sorely mistaken.

No, but like any “fish” I play with it, then release it…the arguments are boring and trite…and quite frankly, I doubt he is black.
These “new” libs know so little about history, you would think they would be embarrassed posting.

Indians owned black slaves.

robertnyc212 on August 13, 2009 at 3:13 PM

The Lakota would be very amused to hear this one. So would the Cheyenne, the Navajo, the Apaches, et al.

BradSchwartze on August 13, 2009 at 3:19 PM

Black slavery didn’t really touch their regions. The tribes of Dixie in the early 1800s did indeed have some slaves.

robertnyc212 on August 13, 2009 at 3:23 PM

I suppose you’re going to next tell me that Andrew Jackson had the Cherokee forced-marched from Georgia because he and his slave-mongering buddies didn’t like the competition.

BradSchwartze on August 13, 2009 at 3:28 PM

Doesn’t explain why the victorious north, freed of that machiavellian Lincoln by an assassin, did not kick the black man down–but denied 8 million whites participation in the Union until they passed guarantees of black suffrage.

Actually the native americans were not as suitable to hard labor as the african. That’s why they made the africans slaves and not native americans. White men were interested in their land not their labor.

Financial hardship did nothing to break the family.
No, it took the compromising of integrity on a national scale to do that.

My new job title is an accountant thank you and i graduated from a 4 yr college unlike most of you.

Afrolib on August 13, 2009 at 2:32 PM

You may wish to try another put-down on this board–there are many people with advanced degrees, and there are many people on this board who did not attend college but are highly intelligent, well-read, and conversant in a variety of topics. A four-year degree isn’t nearly as impressive as you seem to believe.

Doesn’t explain why the victorious north, freed of that machiavellian Lincoln by an assassin, did not kick the black man down. but denied 8 million whites participation in the Union until they passed guarantees of black suffrage.

And if Reconstruction had ended with the Radical Republican Congress then you might be right. But the election of 1876 did happen and the deal to award Hayes the Presidency did exactly what you described, left African Americans without the support of Union troops to keep back terrorist attacks against the democratically elected governments in state legislatures. And we all know (hopefully) what happened over the next decade. Without federal monitors every state had passed some version of “Jim Crow” laws by the end of the 1880s. African Americans, on the books, had the right to vote but over 95% of counties, save the most urbanized, blocked black voter registration through grandfather clause, poll tax, poll test or, the most popular way, threatening those who attempted to register with violence, death or having land burnt to the ground.

Yes it’s ugly. Yes it happened. The Civil War ended legal slavery…that’s pretty much all we can say.

OK well I guess you can look at the evidence that black men on average had to travel much farther from their wives and children to find work due to discrimination in house, close your eyes and say “financial hardships don’t effect family structure.” I’m gonna stay in reality though. Cool?

Not really. Although I would say the 60s is the relevant time frame.

All the things you mentioned could be said of any European or Asian immigrants in the 19th and early 20th century. Yet, there was no welfare. Somehow they overcame deep, violent religious bias and language barriers and paved the way for future generations.

Their children and grandchildren got to where they are because there were no handouts.

It’s so stunningly simple, but because race is involved there will never be any thoughtful debate.
