It’s come to this: Clyburn compares town hall protesters to thugs who attacked civil rights marchers
posted at 8:21 pm on August 13, 2009 by Allahpundit
The number three Democrat in the House, behind only Pelosi and Hoyer, and a longtime practitioner of toxic race-bating on behalf of his party. Unbelievable.
“I have seen this kind of hate before. I have seen this discussion before,” he said. “I have seen snarling dogs going after people who were trying to peacefully assemble. I have seen the eyes of people who were being spat upon.”
“This is all about activity trying to deny the establishment of a civil right. And I do believe that health care for all is — a civil right,” the House Majority Whip argued. “And I think that is why you see this kind of activity. This is an attempt on the part of some to deny the establishment of a civil right.”
Clyburn, a veteran of the civil rights movement, said he was particularly appalled by the use of the Swastika symbol at some of these town hall events. Noting that one had been painted on the office of Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.), an African-American, Clyburn insisted that was proof enough that some of the protests were racially motivated.
“There is no question in my mind,” he said.
This is a guy who’s so intimidated by the supposed terror tactics he’s witnessing that he’s actually been known to doze off at town halls of his own. Here’s my question: At the end of the HuffPo piece, he’s quoted tsk-tsking at the House GOP for not formally denouncing the swastika aimed at David Scott — as if the Republican Party’s supposed to take collective responsibility for something done by one anonymous nut whose party affiliation we don’t even know. If the GOP’s supposed to do that, how come it’s not similarly incumbent upon our blessed savior, the avatar of Hopenchange, to say a discouraging word or two about the insane amount of demagoguery and demonization pouring out of his own party right now? And I don’t mean the stuff coming from nutroots blogs; I’m talking about the Senate majority leader mumbling about “evil-mongers” and the Speaker of the House wringing her hands about swastikas and other congressmen warning of “brown shirts” and “political terrorists” and now this from Clyburn. The rhetoric from the Democratic leadership has turned completely poisonous, yet The One won’t open his mouth to calm it down. How come, champ? Are we playing good cop/bad cop again with these cretins? Exit question: How come this didn’t earn any Bull Connor analogies back in the days when protest was still patriotic?

Aren’t the drawing of districts also heavily influenced by Federal Election laws? I remember reading somewhere that there were Civil Rights laws that affected how some of these ‘majority minority’ districts are carved out. I can’t remember where I read it , though.

Seriously though, MLK was a pivotal person to bring about change regarding the racial divide amongst both Blacks & Whites. His protests were peaceful.

I agree: Martin Luther King was leader who proved his courage, his American idealism, and his leadership in extraordinary times.
Leaked and possibly untrue information from J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI about King’s personal life does not substantially detract from King’s legacy and accomplishments.

All U.S. Congressional boundaries are drawn by the state legislatures every 10 years, using Census data. Since 1965 a number of states must have their boundaries approved by the Feds because those states overtly discriminated against Blacks in the past.

Anyway – it’s now obvious that THEY (the DEMS) ARE TRYING TO START THE RACE WAR they’ve so desperately wanted. They will stop at NOTHING to start the blood letting. Be ready for it, defend yourselves, but DON’T TAKE THE BAIT. CAMERAS ARE EVERYWHERE. Desperation will force their hand into making stupid, stupid mistakes – some will likely suffer and some will likely die. Don’t let them trap you.

How can so many people in our country be blind to the fact that “Demoncrats” and the MSM march to a scripted “playbook”. Remember Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) in the late 90′s saying the only difference between Nazi’s and Republicans was that Republicans wear blue shirts and red ties. While I respect Rep. Lewis’s actions in civil rights, since he has become a Democratic congressmen he has taken over the proverbial role of “Uncle Thomas” by saying and doing whatever he is told by the Democratic Party just like Clyburn and the rest of the Dem. party hacks.

Crap. It’s a bunch of crap. If there’s anyone out there that not only resembles the anti civil-rights thugs of the 50s and 60s, it’s the DNC. Why? Because the DNC WAS the the thugs that went on violent, coersive anti-civil rights rampages. Don’t you wonder what would’ve happened if this kind of rhetoric and rankor had happened back when the New Deal/Social Security/Medicaid/MediCare had come down the pike? If there had been such heated, nation-wide, coast-to-coast discussions back when these “rights” were appearing on the horizon? Again, this would be good commercial fodder. A private organization opposing Clyburn and any possible re-election should showcase this. His civil-rights crusading, morphing into an entitlement crusader who denouonces anyone that speaks against him as a ‘brownshirt’ and shows his great respect for his duties and his constituency by falling asleep when they’re trying to get information from him. Yes, a nice montage this would make…Especially if presented by a black man in a brown shirt. I volunteer.

They are CREATING scenarios and drama…and we all know how they love a good crisis. This is why we MUST TAKE THE HIGH GROUND. We do not BELIEVE in racism because we believe God created all men EQUAL…and we must keep fighting for the WORTH of HARD WORK and INDEPENDENCE. This is our mantra.
But, yeah, they loved the antagonism of the 60′s and will do whatever it takes to bring that back.

Trolls like David2.0 and bill30097 are precisely the reason why I grit my teeth and feel sensations of dread when comment registration is opened, again. It seems all that comes in, now, are leftist trolls and idiots, like yourselves. I won’t call you racists, but that’s only because you’re making that argument for yourselves. In your asinine attacks against Mommypundit, you cite nothing but the flimsy, house-of-cards “evidence” put forward by one of the worst people ever to head the FBI: HOOVER. A man well-known for his animocity toward blacks and black civil rights groups, as well as his propensity for massive, felonious abuses of his personal power. You try to attack Mommypundit for not choosing to believe “evidence” that comes from a politician (Hoover) that was well-known as being far South of trustworthy, because of his personal agenda, which was, in and of itself, anti-American. You can cling to the unverified words of a poor excuse for a ‘man’ that was well-known virulent racist, but don’t come here crying about how others don’t deserve respect, and you (for whatever reasons) do. If you had a lick of sense, you’d have realized, by now, that using the unsubstantiated words of a bisased racist as your compass shows how far off course you really are, and how out of touch you are with the people that actually should be on this site. Like Mommypundit. Thus far, the most substantial contributions you two have made is to show how you’ve nothing better to do, than attack the personal life of a man you’ve never met, armed with absolutely zero evidence, just because you’d rather believe him to be a communist agitator and a philander, than a strong Christian leader that was “as advertised”. Apparently, that’s probably because the values his persona presented run counter to your own. Attack me all you want, but I know too much about you, two, already; you’re just another pair of thousand-mile/km tough guys. You can run your mouths on the Internet and act like you’re the toughest guys since Goliath, but in person, invariably, guys like you curl up like the overcooked shrimp you are. I am so weary of the “race card” being played all the time, I just don’t give a darn anymore. “Race card” fatigue, if you will. Decent Americans are sick to death of the “teaching moments”, the references to our country’s history of slavery which none of us participated in, and which many whites died to abolish. I’m sick of “victimhood” and Affirmative Action that casts a pale over the accomplishments of minorities who could compete on a level playing field, but whose legitimacy will always be questioned because of Affirmative Action. I’m sick of the bottom feeders like Al Sharpton who have become millionaires promoting division, and I’m sick of the poor in the inner cities who have been living the same way for decades but can’t seem to see the connection between their standard of living and the Democrats who have been in charge of those cities for just as long. Put your “race cards” away, and wake up, America is ready to deal a new hand.

We can’t get rid of this idiot in SC!! His Federally drawn district is drawn strictly on racial lines to ensure that a boack man will be the representative.
He is a RACIST! Make no mistake about this. He is constantly throwing down the race card at the GOP – which is quite ironic seeing how it has been the DEMS that gave us Bull Conner and the dogs, segregation, and fought against freeing the slaves.
After Cap and Trade, the Stimulus and the Healthcare debaucle, Clyburn is so cowardly – he won’t hold a town hall meeting this time around. Gee, I wonder why? I am pretty sure it ain’t racism that he is scared of.
Also – after Dingle and the guy with the Obama/Hitler mustache sign, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Swastika at David “Not one of you had the Decency” Scott’s office was a plant also.
The silver lining of all of this is getting to watch the DEM party implode. They had it all and squandered it in record time. Here comes 2010!!
blaque jacques on August 14, 2009 at 6:37 AM
This is the most hilarious piece of myth-making in history. Anyone who knows a lick about southern history knows that the descendents of Bull Connor are southern Republicans as the region’s anti-integration faction switched almost entirely to Republican in 1968 as part of the “southern strategy.” Does anyone here believe that Bull Connor would have voted for Clyburn or John Lewis? What on earth does it gain to pretend as if the political parties remained static over the last 150 years when every piece of historical evidence tells us there was a shift created entirely by the civil rights movement?
CrankyIndependent on August 14, 2009 at 7:15 AM
Probably Democrats who were ordered up by Sen Sheets Byrd who led the filibuster against the Civil Rights Act at the time.
But I wouldn’t put it past the Democrat’s terror wing, the KKK,from doing this …Some comparisons just are apt, but at least the Democrats have now settled on name calling, instead of the old ways of lynch your political opponent.

BruceB on August 14, 2009 at 8:22 AM
Whenever liberals can’t defend a position they always rely on their “go to” whine about racism. That panders to roughly 15% of the population.
Their position on health care is so radical, even their most dependable form of rhetoric isn’t working. Even guilty white liberals are seeing through this charade and are rising up.
They’ve gone too far this time. They know it and everybody else knows it. It’s time to clean house and I’m looking forward to the ’10 elections.

Here I thought President Obama was supposed to be the one and only healer of the racial divide; the man who was to “transcend” political discourse; the great orator capable of persuading the masses to follow him down the path of hope.
Whatever.
Why has NO reporter asked if the President condemns these vicious, unsubstantiated comments made against the American people?
Every time I turn around it seems that a republican is asked to condemn something that somebody said.

You can thank plenty of other authors for MLK’s beautiful prose. His plagerism is widely known. He was just another smooth-talking inexperienced, poser pretending to be somthing other than what he was….sound familiar?

Living in the South, I can tell you that most people around here voted the Dems out because those Dems broke their promises with regards to the civil rights legislation. Sure, it was steeped in racism….IN THE SIXTIES. Things have changed a lot in the past few decades.
Racism still exists, sure, but not anywhere near the level it was 50 years ago. When you talk to people about why they vote, the most common answer is related to state’s rights v federal control. People here are much more intelligent/aware than they are given credit for. Local elections are still dominated by dems..”well, that’s the way my daddy voted” is still an answer, at least in my state. Federal elections are mixed, with a lean towards repub.
The constant references to the “southern strategy” and the inference that southerners who vote repub=racist really chaps my hide. People who believe that (I’m not implying you are one) are themselves stuck in the 60′s…things have changed since then.
