It’s come to this: Clyburn compares town hall protesters to thugs who attacked civil rights marchers

posted at 8:21 pm on August 13, 2009 by Allahpundit

The number three Democrat in the House, behind only Pelosi and Hoyer, and a longtime practitioner of toxic race-bating on behalf of his party. Unbelievable.

“I have seen this kind of hate before. I have seen this discussion before,” he said. “I have seen snarling dogs going after people who were trying to peacefully assemble. I have seen the eyes of people who were being spat upon.”

“This is all about activity trying to deny the establishment of a civil right. And I do believe that health care for all is — a civil right,” the House Majority Whip argued. “And I think that is why you see this kind of activity. This is an attempt on the part of some to deny the establishment of a civil right.”

Clyburn, a veteran of the civil rights movement, said he was particularly appalled by the use of the Swastika symbol at some of these town hall events. Noting that one had been painted on the office of Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.), an African-American, Clyburn insisted that was proof enough that some of the protests were racially motivated.

“There is no question in my mind,” he said.

This is a guy who’s so intimidated by the supposed terror tactics he’s witnessing that he’s actually been known to doze off at town halls of his own. Here’s my question: At the end of the HuffPo piece, he’s quoted tsk-tsking at the House GOP for not formally denouncing the swastika aimed at David Scott — as if the Republican Party’s supposed to take collective responsibility for something done by one anonymous nut whose party affiliation we don’t even know. If the GOP’s supposed to do that, how come it’s not similarly incumbent upon our blessed savior, the avatar of Hopenchange, to say a discouraging word or two about the insane amount of demagoguery and demonization pouring out of his own party right now? And I don’t mean the stuff coming from nutroots blogs; I’m talking about the Senate majority leader mumbling about “evil-mongers” and the Speaker of the House wringing her hands about swastikas and other congressmen warning of “brown shirts” and “political terrorists” and now this from Clyburn. The rhetoric from the Democratic leadership has turned completely poisonous, yet The One won’t open his mouth to calm it down. How come, champ? Are we playing good cop/bad cop again with these cretins? Exit question: How come this didn’t earn any Bull Connor analogies back in the days when protest was still patriotic?

There are plenty of Democratic voters that don’t go along with this Marxist take over. They are niether liberal or leftisits. Like me, they attend the Tea Party protests and Obama deathcare protests. It is, not only the millions of Democrats that voted for Palin, but many hillary supporters that voted for Palin as well. We, like you, recognized the empty suit and the corrupt for power nad money elected Democrats in Washington before the election. We haven’t changed our minds, just our party affiliation.

Don’t let the name calling bother you, that is what they want. To take the topic away from the horrors of Deathcare into something else…ANYTHING else. Just as long as they can get the population to stop talking about how awful this bill is. Besides the entire country can smell the flopsweat of every Democrat in Washington and the WH. With each mentally unbalanced insult, it is blatantly clear how desperate they are. Let them continue to shoot themselves in the foot. It is turning people away from them that didn’t bother to pay close attention. Now that their friends, family and co-workers are being smeared with insane names, they are getting pissed. People know the Dems in Washington are lying through their teeth and acting certifyably crazy

Which might be why ndanielson said, “if your beloved doesn’t destroy the health care industry, they just might find a cure for Trig”.

You can’t “cure” a genetic disorder. What are they going to do, go in and remove the extra chromosome? LOL

The question isn’t whether something can be done now, but whether they can find a cure in the future.

“I have seen this kind of hate before. I have seen this discussion before.”–So have I; in other countries where socialized medicine was forced on the people.

“I have seen snarling dogs going after people who were trying to peacefully assemble. I have seen the eyes of people who were being spat upon.”–On your last trip to Cuba?

“This is an attempt on the part of some to deny the establishment of a civil right.”–No, it’s an attempt to stop you from taking away our civil right to obtain medical care without a socialist bureacrat inserting himself into the middle of it.

We don’t need any damned new rights. We need the ancient rights we’ve already got, hard-earned at Gettysburg and Gaudalcanal. Quit trying to trade them in for these shiny new lies. And lose the Race Card crap, too–it won’t win the argument. It’s just pathetic and desperate.

Obama is probably looking to trip and break something minor but showy to get some public sympathy back on his side for the Health Care issue, since the much-vaunted RACE CARD is proving to have lost much of its mystical power to intimidate and awe the yokels and rubes.

Jim Clyburn is insulting his intelligence & the intelligence of many of the good people of SC, of which I am one.

It seems to me that this administration with its thugs are more like the ones who attacked the Civil Rights marchers.
They are after all trying to surpress people. Yeah there, Big Jim, I see a lot police dogs, firehoses, and such at the townhall mettings.

I promise you I’m gonna need blood pressure meds every hour on the hour until this administration’s time runs out.

How maddening & pathetic simultaneously. There are so many expressive words I’d have loved to have used in this post. Jim Clyburn, shut up & then use your brain!

PalmettoPatriot on August 13, 2009 at 9:26 PM

My congresswoman (Giffords, a white woman) has already called those of us in her district who oppose the Socialist healthcare plan racist. It’s the same old tired story with all these idiot Libs: anybody who dares to disagree with their statist goals is an evil racist. But the slur has been overused to the point where it no longer has any effect. So go ahead, call us racists . . .
AZCoyote on August 13, 2009 at 8:40 PM

Has she ever EXPLAINED HER COMPLAINT to anyone? Explained what she MEANS by “it’s racist to…”

My guess is she hasn’t and won’t. I’ve never heard so much as a peep of explanation from those who cast that accusation (as to healthcare or many other issues among the Socialists’ plans) on others.

They are simply using emotionally agitation terms. It gets listeners off the subject at hand on attempts to place them on the defensive. And the accuser never can nor will explain how it is they’re defining those pejoratives (“it’s racist to…”).

IF it was that no one from among selected races, BECAUSE OF THEIR RESPECTIVE RACIAL TYPE, was being withheld access to any and all care for any and all conditions, even if they had the means to purchase or otherwise obtain it, then that’d be a very sound argument for, indeed, a “racist” process at work.

BUT, that’s not taking place in our nation. People have access to medical care when they need it. No one asks them to first submit their DNA or waves them off if they’re of one color/kind or another, not generally, nationwide, not by law or policy in most cases.

If someone’s not willing or able to buy services, and they’re of a certain racial kind/type, then SOME people try to say that they’re being discriminated against if they can’t get the same services that, say, someone next to them is receiving who IS paying the costs, making that purchase.

So therein lies the problem with people who claim (oftentimes) racism against others. SOME people — many on the Left — think that they’re due (from whom, can’t say) “medical care” of any or all sorts at only their demand, witout regard for who is paying it, what it costs, etc.

They are intolerant of the idea that it’s oftentimes a case of costs and you get what you pay for. Someone who isn’t able to purchase 4-star weekly home visits from a very expensive heart surgeon making special house calls isn’t going to get that care, while someone who can pay that surgeon’s price IS going to get those special visits.

It has nothing to do with “race” or what race someone is. I’m sure that, say, Tiger Woods gets a lot, a whole lot, of all the special visits he can and is willing to purchase.

Same with Fidel Castro, for that matter, a man propped up in his castle by the sea enjoying all the special home care from attending physicians he’s willing to pay for, except that he’s using other people’s money without their consent to do it.

Nationalized health care funded by taxpayers is a “civil right”? Go suck an egg, fella. The government teat is just another name for the plantation.

onlineanalyst on August 13, 2009 at 9:23 PM

That’s exactly right. There is no “right” in our Constitution for health care, or, someone-else-must-pay-my-expenses Right. No “right” for a drivers license, no “right” for many special treats that the Left continues to insist upon.

It originates in a plantation and communist/socialist-culture mentality. A lot of people who’ve immigrated to the U.S. from socialist nations where they’re accustomed to clinics with bandaids and “medicine” handed out like a nurse’s office at a grade school expect the same from the U.S. even for several generations; it doesn’t seem they ever realize they should be taking care of themselves on their own resources.

Same with the lingering “plantation” desire: it’s easier to continue to live off parents with parents and just get things that come to you but you don’t labor or stress over getting all that yourself. Same with the old “plantation” mentality: “the man provide for me” thinking…housing, food, a job, a name, dentist when needed, days off, rest, holidays, a trip to town…

Yes, the stainless tell are better for the environment…but one can do a lot of damage with a stainless steel thermos-like bottle.

If the numbers of attendees grows significantly large, the DC police and Metro cops may impose a few restrictions. The less hassle the better.

When we dedicated the Korean War memorial, the organizers placed large blue barrels all around the area…free ice and free bottled water so we wouldn’t lose any of the vets. Worked out quite well. Perhaps the organizers of this event may do likewise.

The race card is working less and less. Take HotAir commentors for example, not automatically going into hyper defense mode at every slander of racism or hate.

We just elected a true American-African as President. White guilt seem’s to have suddenly evaporated.

When accussed of racism now, instead of automatically apologizing, most are treating people of all colors more equally and ridiculing those who sling such baseless accussations. It seem’s to have finally happened, that race card in the hole has been played out.

Thank you. I have a great big grin on my face a misty eyes. I appreciate you showing me.

** whispering **

You’re welcome. Just don’t let anybody know, and especially him, that I like him, because I’m pretending that I don’t and I think it’s working. It will just be our little secret. Okay?

Hey guys, is Knucklehead traveling again? I haven’t seen her in days.

Cindy Munford on August 13, 2009 at 9:34 PM

I don’t know. We really need a members room where stuff like this can be posted so I don’t fret about people I’m missing.

Loxodonta on August 13, 2009 at 9:41 PM

Pick-up a few of those stainless steel water bottles (some come with filters in them) so you can just use tap water, avoid all those plastic bottles, as to litter.

highhopes on August 13, 2009 at 9:41 PM

Another service I highly recommend is Zipcar.

They have “727 cars in Washington, D.C.”

You join annually (small fee), you then get to use cars/rent cars from zipcar wherever the cars are parked nationwide, for a small hourly fee (as little as an hour or even partial hours, as long as two days) — insurance and even gas is included in the hourly rate.

You join, then you reserve a car by location. The cars are parked in locations in major cities (see their site to “find cars”) and if you have your reservation in place, you just find the car, access the car (they’ll explain how) and then drive the car, returning it to the same location at the end of your reservation (or extend it if needed and the car is available longer).

It’s a great service, I highly recommend zipcar. I don’t have the foggiest idea what their politics are but they’re a wonderfully responsible service and their cars are all very well maintained and in great shape.

How stupid is Clyburn? If it’s not about him he doesn’t understand it.

Let them all come down to Texas, huh?

TXMomof3 on August 13, 2009 at 9:39 PM

TXMomof3, what part of TX are you in? I’ve lived in DC and parts of TX; DC was built on lowlands (like a swamp); think Houston and dress accordingly.

They’re just economical over time, plus you don’t have all that plastic afterward to contend with or leave for someone else to.

Remind me, which side of the HC debate was beaten by goons yelling “n*gger” again? MLK,Jr is rolling over in his grave.

To which welcome_ghosts said:

You can’t “cure” a genetic disorder. What are they going to do, go in and remove the extra chromosome? LOL

The question isn’t whether something can be done now, but whether they can find a cure in the future.

Can’t wait to see the fire hoses turned on the elderly and middle aged Americans who are protesting the ObamaCare Fiasco.

MLK would be spinning in his grave to see what has become of his movement.

These last gasps of the race grievance brigade are actually getting kind of amusing. Hey, Clyburn, if Obama and his good friend “Professor” Gates understand that it’s Game Over, you probably should, too.

Rational Thought on August 13, 2009 at 9:48 PM

I wasn’t talking literally mentally handicapped. welcome_ghosts, on the other hand, brought in someone who is actually mentally handicapped into the conversation.

Knucklehead mentioned when she registered that she lives one town over from me.
I think that Jaibones is fairly local too.
If we get a few more South-landers on HA we might be able to start a conservative “revolution” here.

Guess which congressman voted YES on HR 3396: Defense of Marriage Act during the 104th Congress

Plan to be in the March on Washington with my better half and relatives from Baltimore. Sounds like it will start near the White House and march to Congress. Someone suggested we have Hot Air shirts so we’ll recognize each other.

It will never be game over for this guy, or any of his pals in racially-gerrymandered districts. White politicians may come and go, but minority Congressmen are forever…and they rise to the very top in the Congress.

Thanks, GOP, for rolling over to districts that run 300 miles along the interstate.

guntotinglibertarian on August 13, 2009 at 9:52 PM

Clyburn insisted that was proof enough that some of the protests were racially motivated.
“There is no question in my mind,” he said.

This from Clyburn who is a member of the congressional black caucus, based entirely on race!

Clyburn, dump the black caucus, then we’ll talk..

Cindy Munford on August 13, 2009 at 9:54 PM

I got a feeling that if someone did a concerted and objective study, they’d find that most racism is on the left side of the political spectrum.

They call us racists. They are wrong. Most of us are not racially conscious, we don’t see skin color. Everyone of us believe in the Melting Pot.

The reason why Liberals like multi-culturalism is not out of some belief in equality… You can stay in power easier if you keep the constituents fighting one another instead of banding together against you.
