Classic TEMS: Michael Yon, Andrew Malcolm, Christopher & Howe

I will be winging my way to the Right Online conference today instead of sitting in my home office and doing a live show. Instead, I’ll leave you with Tuesday’s episode as a replay. We started that show early when Michael Yon called, and many of the show’s regular live viewers missed a great interview from the front lines in Afghanistan. The rest of the show was terrific, with Andrew Malcolm returning to his normal slot after vacation, and my friends Tommy Christopher and Caleb Howe providing fireworks on health care reform. Don’t miss it, and feel free to use the chatroom!
Now you can join the conversation in the chat room! Be sure to register at Ustream to participate in our raucous live-chat sessions. (And if the log-in prompt doesn’t come up in the chat box below, use this link instead.) Jazz Shaw of The Moderate Voice and The Monster moderate the chat, and they have Troll Gun Trivia Contest running before the show, for those who get there early — and are registered!

There is concern from Micxhael about winning in Afghanistan. We cannot win by military actions alone. Michael had a suggestion in one of his dispatches concerning a system that produces methane gas for cook, heating and lighting.
On May 1, 2009 I wrote Senator Cardin, Senator Mikulski, DOD, the State Department and US AID about the need for the Gobar Gas collector system; a simple human and animal waste to methane producing system presently not utilized in Afghanistan but is in other Asian countries according to Michael Yon and others familiar with the system and the region. I only received a answer from Senator Cardin but no follow-up, so I wrote him again yesterday. This is a simple, inexpensive way to win the hearts and minds of the Afghan people.
Michael was apparently right when he said, “My guess is that the only real disadvantage is that the idea is incredibly effective, simple and cheap, and so we probably wouldn’t want to get involved.” We can help our country and the Afghan people if, we the people who support Michael, would push for this system via our government representatives. We now spend trillions yet cannot find hundreds of thousands for building these systems and improving our chances to defeat the enemy in Afghanistan.
