Video: Olbermann names Ed Morrissey best person in the world

posted at 9:45 pm on August 12, 2009 by Allahpundit

Savor it, if only because this is closer to the truth than Olby’s been in a long, long time. I’m so relieved it’s Ed, too: Someone on Twitter told me he had named me best person for yesterday’s post about the Paulnut with the gun outside Obama’s town hall. Between the fight with Meggie Mac and the lovely KP getting engaged, that would have been more than my beta-male heart could stand.

But no, it’s Ed for his post on the National Guard’s non-internment camps. For the rare distinction of having earned Olbermann’s blessing, let me be the first to say to Ed: You are the RINO king. Enjoy the throne of shame; if you need me, I’ll be at the bar adjusting to my new role as Hot Air’s “true conservative.”

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Update (Ed): Geez, you step out for a few minutes, and look what happens! Allahpundit’s relieved it’s not him; I’m relieved AP wrote about it before I had to post this myself. How would I have framed it — hey, I made John Hawkins’ most-respected conservatives list on the same day as KO’s Best Persons list? I feel like I traveled 26,000 miles just to get back to where I started.

I’m sure people would like me to be a jerk about this, but I’ll say thank you to Keith instead for the kind words. We’ll be arguing again tomorrow, and for the … rest of eternity, probably, but I’d prefer to return graciousness with graciousness.

Update II (Ed): Tommy Christopher uncovers the real conspiracy. Soylent Green, anyone?

Oh, so it’s my fault that the left likes judges who use empathy instead of the rule of law? You guys aren’t even embarrassed byt he idiocy of it, anymore. It’s liek the health care debacle. Usually, you fools try to justify your un-Constitutional social engineering by “general welfare” or commerce clause arguments – which are laughable, themselves. But now, you don’t even bother to try and make it look Constitutional, you are just calling for a federal insurance company in order to “provide competition” to the private sector, which has to be the most idiotic argument for a Congressional act that I have ever heard of.

But, tell me, how does the Constitution allow Congress the power to open a health insurance company in order to “provide competition” to the private sector? Cite me a clause or two. Also, do you think that Congress is allowed to do anything it wants, as per the Constitution? OVer at HuffPo they told me that, even if something is un-Constitutional, if it’s “right” then Congress should do it. Is that how you feel?

Ozprey on August 13, 2009 at 12:46 AM

Olby showed some rational behavior for a change…of course, only with something he agreed with.

I’m not alarmed about that NG detention thing, nor the FEMA camp stuff.

Don’t need them.

We already have lots and lots of prisons and it doesn’t take any time at all to set up a camp of tents and surround them with barbed wire. Also, the prisoners in our prisons now are apolitical…they are common criminals and can be dispensed with or released (read The Gulag Archipelago for how Communist view common criminals as opposed to political prisoners) as they are no real threat to the power structure-just other citizens, but that’s always been a “so what?” thing anyway to the elitists who live in gated communities and/or have their personal security people.

So, I’m a conservative crackpot with a slightly different take on the matter.

That will be up to the supreme court to decide. And, have you ever heard about amendments‘?

Bill Blizzard on August 13, 2009 at 12:46 AM

They were simple, direct questions. Did you not understand them?

What is the Constitutional justification for Congress to create and run a health insurance company designed to “provide cometition” to the private sector? The Constitution is pretty short. A couple of pages. All I’m asking is what clause, or clauses, do you think gives that power to Congress? It’s like a multiple choice question … if the answer actually exists in the Constitution! Otherwise, it’s a trick question!

Anyway, you must have some view on this. Let me have it.

progressoverpeace on August 13, 2009 at 1:00 AM

And, have you ever heard about amendments‘?

Bill Blizzard on August 13, 2009 at 12:46 AM

LOL. Health insurance is a right? You’re too funny, man. Okay. Let me have which right. I couldn’t evern imagine. As loony as you people are, you’ll probably try to find the right to health care in the 2nd amendment, since a person can’t possibly keep and bear arms if he’s not healthy. Health insurance is a 2nd amendment right!! That would be a pretty sneaky one.

I’m specifically an Irish whiskey man. Budget-wise, I’m happy with Jameson. Michael Collins is swill and a disgrace to the name of the man whose moniker they pilfered. Gold Label isn’t bad, but Jameson is better. Then, of course, there’s the aged Jamesons. However, for the money, I’d sooner special order a bottle of Green Spot or Redbreast from overseas. Pure pot still whiskey cooked over a peat fire. Smoooooooth.

Are you purely a Johnnie Walker fan? I always thought Maker’s Mark was surprisingly good for a less expensive brand.

Afraid I’ll have to disappoint. Square peg and round hole and all that.

Doing the Galt thing just seems so much more … well … natural, given the current climate of hopenchange.

So commenters attack a television personality who uses his exposure to sling childish insults and baseless hyperbole at the President…and you respond by insulting them.

In other words, you started it.

Get over yourself. I’m sure your modern-day Murrow can speak for himself.

MadisonConservative on August 13, 2009 at 2:54 AM

Gotta say g’nite. Even in Puget Sound area, it’s late.

platypus on August 13, 2009 at 2:55 AM

“Paulnut” . . . ?

Gee, Ed, for all the carping that goes on around here about Alinsky, you sure seem quick to take up Alinsky’s Rule #5 (Ridicule).
Keep driving away conservative, activist people from the party, though. That has worked so well for us the past two elections!

voxpopuli on August 13, 2009 at 3:08 AM

The real story was Kirsten becoming engaged to Dr. Marty Makary.

He is clearly an accomplished and intelligent man. And if the young lady supports and stands by him the way she slavishly attends to the motley crew and defunct ideology of the left, they will happily cruise to a fiftieth anniversary. Congrats to him and best wishes to them both.

IlikedAUH2O on August 13, 2009 at 3:08 AM

** Meant “Allahpundit” and not “Ed” in prior post. Slip of the hand.

NO! Bush started it and HA and the comments continued with it.

Political.com asked Bush 6 months before the election, “”If we were to pull out of Iraq next year, what’s the worst that could happen, what’s the doomsday scenario?”

Bush replied, “”Doomsday scenario of course is that extremists throughout the Middle East would be emboldened, which would eventually lead to another attack on the United States. The biggest issue we face is, it’s bigger than Iraq, it’s this ideological struggle against cold-blooded killers who will kill people to achieve their political objectives.”

Bush’s reply was a political objective, Scaring the public to vote for McSame. That’s sleazy. That’s what KO was opining about. And the Bush Cult Syndrome(BCS) inflicted
people here were OK with that tactic. Not me.

lovingmyUSA on August 13, 2009 at 4:09 AM

May I ask, why are you working at this particular time?

Loxodonta on August 13, 2009 at 4:10 AM

I am a nurse tech at a hospital, and am working an extra shift, so am sitting with a confused patient–and wonder of wonders, there was a computer here in the room! Even more wonderful, now I can post–I used to just read your comments and lurk here till the post ran out…

Have admired your comments from afar…at least as far away as Iowa :)

What are YOU doing up?

lovingmyUSA on August 13, 2009 at 4:26 AM

I have great admiration for all those who work in health care, and who actually work as best they can and who actually care about those they are tending. My experience is that the vast majority in the field are quite wonderful. Also, all health care professionals are greatly appreciated here at this time. I hope you can contribute to stopping this medical abomination from being passed.

Thank you for your kind words, though I can’t imagine anything to admire in this old fool’s babbling.

I typically only sleep 4 hours per 24. Of course there are differences of opinion as to whether my condition during the other 20 should be considered wakefulness, and I hold the minority view on that issue.

Thank you for being patient with this confused sitter.

Loxodonta on August 13, 2009 at 4:40 AM

Why thank you for your kind words. I love my work, and usually work on a surgical floor. I am taking advantage of this time sitting, and would otherwise be too busy to comment.

I am thrilled that there was open registration yesterday, and I can’t believe I am conversing with all of you whom I have been reading for the last few years!

lovingmyUSA on August 13, 2009 at 4:49 AM

But, on my nights off, I am usually wandering about the sites, (have become a political blog junkie)–so it seems we are night owls…

Birds of a feather and all that :)

lovingmyUSA on August 13, 2009 at 4:51 AM

May your life be filled with wonders and as little darkness as can be.

And now, I have other matters to which I must attend. So, until we meet again, please take very good care of that care taker I just met tonight. Thanks.

Loxodonta on August 13, 2009 at 5:00 AM

*Sigh, you are so eloquent! Good night/morning ( I am forever lost in time)–I am off visting the other blogs–MM’s first!

lovingmyUSA on August 13, 2009 at 5:13 AM

Gottcha Ed. Birds of a feather flock together. You been sleeping with Olberman a long time Ed. We know your m.o..

jarhead0311 on August 13, 2009 at 5:43 AM

Olbermann names Ed Morrissey best person in the world

Heart-ache

NoFanofLibs on August 13, 2009 at 7:06 AM

I’m relieved AP wrote about it before I had to post this myself.

You have trouble talking about yourself as much as barry has trouble talking about barry.

peacenprosperity on August 13, 2009 at 7:23 AM

This is like Hitler giving someone the Jew of the Week award. Thanks but no thanks.

I think this is good. I trust HotAir, most the time, to do good investigative “reporting” and being fair minded, so, I appreciated the “camp” and birther articles. My position is that there is so much real-time fascism going on that no one needs to be steeped in conspiracy theories.
I also think it might bring others to the table who might not, otherwise. When I was a stupid liberal, what brought me back over was hearing credit given for fairness on our side (not like there isn’t always a lot of it and just dismissed) and it gave me pause. Not saying Olbie is the best judge of character, obviously. But, it doesn’t hurt to have more converts, even if we will never sway the die hards.

Mommypundit on August 13, 2009 at 7:40 AM

my bad, when I was trolling through the channels last night, I just saw Ed’s mug, didn’t see the title…thought it was for worst person in the world…

cmsinaz on August 13, 2009 at 7:51 AM

Heres a theory,OberMoron is trying out a new Liberal ploy,
re-targetting search and destroy mission,by switching from
Rush,Hannity, the talk radio on the right, and trying to sh#t
distrub by going after Rightsphere blogs!

After all AllahPundit,Capt’n Morressey is getting out the
information that is the truth!!

Jus sayin!!

canopfor on August 13, 2009 at 7:52 AM

That will be up to the supreme court to decide. And, have you ever heard about amendments‘?

Bill Blizzard on August 13, 2009 at 12:46 AM

Do you know how amendments are actually passed into law? Hint: It isn’t through a House Bill.

BadgerHawk on August 13, 2009 at 8:19 AM

And tonight you will probably be named to the Worst Person in the World list.

Of course getting noticed by Keith is sort of disturbing.

Next up Rachel Maddow.

Too bad only about 3 people saw it, far more will learn about the mention from the posting here then they did from him.

Okay enough snark.

Just A Grunt on August 13, 2009 at 8:22 AM

Forget Olbermann, the BIG news is the beauteous Kirsten Powers getting MARRIED. Damn. Ruined my day. So much for the best laid plans….

Don’t bother me…I’m visualizing….

bradley11 on August 13, 2009 at 8:29 AM

Ed, If you go back to your Karl Rovian mind set, KO will not do this to you again.
Condolences to AP. I believe the boss should give you a few days off. I believe I speak for eveyone here when I say ” We’re here for you Bro”
