Another disgrace: In Nigeria, Hillary hints that 2000 U.S. election was rigged

posted at 8:30 pm on August 12, 2009 by Karl

As Allahpundit would say, she’s a special lady:

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton compared Nigeria’s corruption and electoral problems with the 2000 Florida presidential election recount during a town hall meeting today in Abuja, Nigeria.

Answering a question about Nigeria’s recent election, Clinton said, “In 2000, our presidential election came down to one state where the brother of the man running for President was the governor of the state. So we have our problems too.”

That is a tasty combo of the Obama administration’s “America sucks” foreign policy, coated in some rich, gooey Bush Deragement Syndrome. Sure, the “media recounts” of the 2000 election showed that the recounts requested by Al Gore or ordered by the Florida Supreme Court would have still resulted in a victory for George W. Bush. Why would that stop our country’s chief diplomat from suggesting that her predecessors in government were there illegitimately? Certainly not Pres. Obama’s faux insistence that we let go of the politics of the past.

The sad thing is that this story will be heard by few Americans, and will register with even fewer. The silver lining? If the US Secretary of State can bestride the globe this drenched in BDS — almost nine years after the fact — without notice, what are the odds that a few anti-ObamaCare protesters are going to scare anyone today? (hint: Long odds.)

Update (AP): Here’s the clip. Between this and her “I’m the secretary of state” freakout the other day, she’s having a hell of a trip.

I heard this on the news on my way home. She is rationalizing it by saying that she meant that people should adjust if elections don’t come out as they think they should. She’s having a really bad week.

I would say, “How…dare…she” as she is supposed to represent all of America. But frankly, I’m about fresh out of outrage at the moment. There’s so many new outrages every day that even I need a little recovery time before my next one.

If you’re thinking about challenging Obama in 2012 if the meltdown continues, and you know that you’re going to have to win over what figures to be a very irate primary electorate, statements like this make sense, since it’s a flag to the true believers that she’s not moving to the right, which is how the netroots crowd demonized her during last year’s primaries.

For every person on the right who has some remaining doubts about Obama’s birthplace, there must be ten on the left who think Bush “stole” the 2000 election (or even the 2004). To hear this screwball theory even hinted at by our Secretary of State overseas is disgraceful.

Clinton said, “In 2000, our presidential election came down to one state where the brother of the man running for President was the governor of the state. So we have our problems too.”

Not surprising. The left is playing every trick in their old tired playbook (ex health care debate). The people have seen enough to see it for what it is. As long as they play old tactics, people will just get more and more disgusted. I hope she DOES keep flapping that word hole on her face. It only helps the rest of us make our cases. This train is completely derailing now.

That being said, as we saw in the 2004 WA Governor election, and Al Franken, the Democrats have been working hard on making sure they don’t leave room for error when they crank up their vote-a-matics.
