CNN poll: Palin’s net favorable rating at -9

posted at 5:20 pm on August 12, 2009 by Allahpundit

The good news? Fox News and WaPo had her at -13 a few weeks ago. The bad news? Given the trend lines, it’s now obvious that her resignation has cost her some national support.

Thirty-nine percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Wednesday have a favorable opinion of the former Alaska governor and last year’s Republican vice presidential nominee. That’s down seven points from a poll conducted in May, and it’s also nine points lower than the 48 percent who now say they now view Palin unfavorably. Forty-three percent viewed Palin negatively in May.

“Most of that change has come among Republicans and conservatives,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “GOP voters still like Palin — two-thirds continue to have a favorable view of her — but she is not as wildly popular among GOPers as she was in the spring, when eight in ten Republicans had a favorable view of her.”…

“A 39 percent favorable rating makes it that much tougher for Palin to become president should she decide to run in 2012. Her favorable rating is almost identical to the numbers that former vice president Dan Quayle got just after leaving office in 1993,” says Holland.

The margin of error for the Republican sample is 6.5 points but these numbers do jibe with what Fox News found: In that poll too, 67 percent of Republicans viewed her favorably. Most pols have their polling ups and downs over time (see, e.g., Hillary Clinton) but so far it’s been a downhill slide for the ‘Cuda. My sense is that the media/SNL caricature of her is so vivid in the public imagination that it’ll be unusually difficult for her to undo the bad impression; even the “death panel” comment might cost her, especially with fellow Republicans like Isakson and Lisa Murkowski spinning it as “nuts” and offensive. Exit question which I don’t think I’ve ever asked before: If she decides she’s momentarily too radioactive to win the nomination and bows out of 2012, whom do the Palinistas break for? I can’t see them being real thrilled with either Romney or Huck. Does some Palin-esque dark horse jump in once she decides not to run in hopes of snapping up her base? If so, er, who is it?

If Obama REALLY becomes that bad, it’s up to every individual to ATTEMPT to get their money out of the U.S. or into precious metals that are hidden from the government or preserve wealth however they may.

FDR went hour to house to steal people’s gold. That would probably never happen again since the situation is totally different, but I still think it’s up to each individual to keep an eye on the Federal Government and know that they don’t have your best interests in mind.

I guess if you trust 5-termer Chris Dodd to take care of you. heh.

Lots of reason for skepticism.

“Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime … He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation … And now he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction … So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real…”
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

“I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.”
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line.”
President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”
President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

“We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction.”
– Madeline Albright, Feb 1, 1998

“He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983.”
– Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

“Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.”
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

“Hussein has … chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies.”
– Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

“We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.”
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

“Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.”
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.”
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

Saddam stopped cooperating with the inspectors because Clinton changed the terms so that there was no longer an eventual reward involved it. Hence this led to the 1998 bombing campaigns.

flyoverboy on August 12, 2009 at 11:55 PM

Not to interfere but as a highly trained professional I must say that is not nearly strong enough in this case.

My recommend treatment plan would include:

1) An anti-psychotic drug protocol must be started immediately. The protocol should include but not be limited to the following medications.

A) Clozapine usually requires doses between 300 and 600 milligrams a day, but some patients require as much as 900 milligrams/day. Doses higher than 900 millgrams/day are not recommended except in extreme cases such as Spathi’s case.

B) Loxapine may be beneficial at doses of 60-100 milligrams/day, but may be used in doses as high as 250 mg/day if needed which it probably will be for Spathi.

C) Olanzapine doses vary with the exact level of the condition being treated. The usual maximum dose is 20 milligrams/day. For Spathi 40 milligrams/day.

D) Quetiapine may be dosed anywhere from 150-750 milligrams/day, depending on how well the patient responds. Spathi’s dose should probably be started at 750 milligrams/day.

If the Spathi fails to respond to the above protocol, it is recommended that the following rescue protocol be attempted.

1) Triturating up to very high doses of Donepezil, Galantamine and Rivastigmine.

2) Possible electroshock treatment. The judicial placement of several leaches on his head may also be beneficial.

3) Being placed in a small private room with a couple of Soldiers or Marines to council him may also be needed.

Even with this complete treatment plan, Spathi’s chances of making any meaningful recovery are unfortunately quite small, but we in my profession do have the responsibility to at least try.

Upstater85,

Ya, Obama hasn’t changed much. He has supposedly ended Bush’s extraordinary rendition program. That’s a great step.

There is a gay civil rights march scheduled for 60 days from now in D.C.

Of gay rights activists want their rights, they will have to be out in the streets for it. So we’ll see how things go.

Not much has changed on wiretapping.

Not much has changed in terms of Iraq-Afghanistan, but McCain wanted to bomb Iran so at least we’re not attacking any new countries.

Uh… yeah, you let me know when he stops meddling. If anything the whole imperialism thing is just as bad as under Bush – now we are totally behind the UN (at least with Bush we weren’t).

There is a gay civil rights march scheduled for 60 days from now in D.C.

What’s the march for? Letting gay people vote, participate in gov’t, &c?

Or maybe it’s one of those Gay Rights Marches where they demand the Gov’t recognize their marriages…

Not much has changed on wiretapping.

Not true,

Obama has completely ended the extraordinary rendition program at least as has been reported so far. There could be something secret going on, but for right now it’s not.

Keep in mind Bush’s extraordinary rendition is worthy of a war crimes charge in itself beyond anything else Bush did. Extraordinary rendition IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD.

Also what about Gaza? Clinton had changed the Bush policy and has recommended that there be no new settlements there.

Loxodonta,

ha! Well I already lasted longer than I do on the Redstate site.

They ban people right away.

How quickly everyone writes her off.

True_King on August 13, 2009 at 12:54 AM

Im not writing her off, as much as realizing we have some really Baaaaaaad people in power, and a really Baaaaad state of affairs right now in this United States Of Afrika America. I just don’t think she or anyone can take it down. It will take an act of God. Hopefully He (yes, I said He) will use…Her!

What Obama not engaged in renditions?

I think AP will ban ya pretty quick here too if you don’t roll the HA way.

I have only stood behind, and campaigned for, two presidents. JFK and RR. If Sarah runs it will be #3

flyoverboy on August 13, 2009 at 1:02 AM

She is the only one that matters, right now. If someone I like steps up, may the primary go to the best conservative!

HornetSting on August 13, 2009 at 1:03 AM

There is a huge difference between rendition and extraordinary renditions.

The two topics aren’t even related but just have similar named so that article is kind of lost in semantics.

Renditions are what “The Bounty Hunter Dog” does when he goes to Mexico, and kidnaps someone in his trunk to bring him back to the U.S. to face a trial.

Extraordinary Renditions are the torture tours.

If Obama is really continuing the extraordinary renditions program and that is not some bogus crap, then his ass his grass in 2012.

The left wing base will abandon him in droves.

Spathi on August 13, 2009 at 1:06 AM

Obama doing extraordinary rendition= zero chance at reelection.

That’s an absolute game breaker among the civil liberties oriented left.

Spathi on August 13, 2009 at 1:07 AM

Renditions, Renditions, Renditions, Renditions…

Different offenders have different agendas and use different tactics, so counter-trollism includes studying the perp, strategic planning, then effective tactical execution. In some cases, all that can be done is to correct misinformation and not feed them. In others, a good group stomping is best. And there are many other approaches in between, some quite nuanced. However, anyone willing to participate effectively in this effort is welcome.

She set the trap and they walked right in.

Funny how she’s suppose to be so stupid, but as far as I’ve witnessed, she was the smartest one of both tickets.

Ya work with what ya got, so to speak. Why can a man sit inside the Oval office with kids but a curve ball is thrown out to a strong women with kids, not a question that’s moot. What comes next umm, umm, keep drawing her out, after all she is Madam President.

stormen on August 13, 2009 at 1:11 AM

This Greg Miller guy at the LATimes is lost in translation.

Obama’s campaign official campaign pledge was to keep renditions (not controversial) but do away with extraordinary renditions.

So since he can’t keep the terms straight (nor is he addressing the terminology), I’m not going to draw any conclusions yet. I’ve seen a lot of bogus stories in the past so….take a deep breath on this LATimes sotry.

However, there will be absolute hell to pay if Obama is torturing people.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Any poll which uses “adults” is useless. It includes non-voters, including those who aren’t even registered.

Rasmussen and Public Policy Polling are who I trust, and the latter will be posting national favourables for ‘Cuda soon.
