AMA to Obama: Stop accusing us of wanting to hack off people’s body parts, champ

posted at 9:06 pm on August 12, 2009 by Allahpundit

A follow-up to last night’s post about the looming dangers of mass amputation if ObamaCare doesn’t pass. This is now the second time in three weeks that a doctors’ association has had to correct him publicly over a bit of cheap demagoguery aimed at scaring people into swallowing his plan. Or, rather, the third time: The American College of Surgeons released a statement of its own earlier this evening hammering him on the same points as the AMA. What’s next for The One? Accusing nurses of stealing money out of patients’ wallets while they’re asleep?

We agree with President Obama on the importance of prevention. However, a recent example used to illustrate his important point was misleading. Surgeons are not paid $30,000 to $50,000 to amputate a diabetic’s foot. Medicare pays a surgeon, on average, from $541.72 to $708.71 for one of two procedures involving a foot amputation. It is possible that the total bill, hospital stay, rehabilitation, prosthesis, etc. may approach the larger amount mentioned.

In the case of tonsillectomies, a patient is referred to a surgeon after medication therapy has proven to be ineffective. Actually, the medical profession itself recognized questions about utilization and appropriateness of tonsillectomies and took action by developing clinical guidelines, which has resulted in a sharp decline in the rate of tonsillectomies.

These types of examples create the impression that physicians are motivated by payment levels rather than what is best for patients. The AMA will continue to stress to our elected leaders that physicians are dedicated to putting patients first and optimizing health care quality.

Translation: The guy who wants to run American health care was off here by a factor of 100 on cost. Although who knows? If the public’s fears about exploding health-care expenses under ObamaCare prove justified, maybe someday soon an amputation will run you $30-50K.

Oh, here’s something else I spotted on the wire today that has no implications at all for a public option or single-payer. None.

Actually, I was defaming possums, since possums (who have existed since the Cretaceous Period) have a much more highly developed survival instinct than do Jewish Liberals, who are simply dumb as crap.
Talk to Jewish conservatives – have you noticed how hard-assed they are? Atlas, Debbie Schlussel, Caroline Glick, Mark Levin – Levin, for example, has battled literal battalions of Jewish Liberal morons. He is now, as the word goes, “adamantine”.
I personally have brought some of these leftwing bastards to literal tears in debates. They can’t argue, fall back on ad hominems, and do not bring honor to our Tribe, let me tell you.. I won’t go into the whole Israel thing – it’s too ugly. In summary, I always tell Israelis not to trust the American liberal Jewish community.
So, I apologize to our marsupial friends for the unfair remarks.

Everyone needs more education on the severity of diabetes in children and with Dr. O throwing a one size fits all blanket of treatment on diseases – it does not help!

Type 1 diabetics cannot prevent this disease and it takes a constant, sometimes impossible, effort to stay healthy. Blood glucose control is very complicated for both Type 2 and, especially, Type 1 diabetics. Every diabetic deserves individualized treatment.

My little theory:

It all comes down to the use of guilt as the main control mechanism by the culture. Western civilization, Judeo-Christian culture, all use guilt as the main mechanism, to some degree. In Judaism, it is strongest, but it exists throught the West. It is the control mechanism of an individualistic culture, since guilt is a totally individual mechanism. No one needs to know something I’ve done or thought for me to feel guilty about it and in need of atoning for it. The rest of the cultures are collectivist in nature and use shame as their main control mechanism. But shame is a purely public notion, as I cannot be shamed unless someone else knows something that I did, or, even worse, something someone did to me! People in shame cultures are not even in control of shame, whereas guilt is totally within my control. I am only guilty for my own thoughts and actions.

Anyway, guilt is a very effective mechanism, as individualistic cultures are the highest growth and most dynamic, just as capitalism is, in its realms. But, as some kids are so sensitive and have such runaway imaginatons that they cannot see a ghost movie without having terrible nightmares for weeks and being scared of the dark, many Westerners cannot handle guilt, as a mechanism. Their imagination goes out of control and they have a constant, heavy feeling of guilt pervading their lives. Their natural reaction is to feel the strong need to atone. This makes them sad people. But, they also don’t know where the guilt comes from (since it is illusory in nature, for the most part) so they blame their parents. As it is based in their religious training, they blame their church. And then they blame everyone who reminds them of themselves. Real self-haters and people yearning for national suicide.

These people appear in the West in decent numbers, but they appear most among Jews, since Jewish culture uses guilt more intensely than the others. It’s an unavoidable risk of using the most powerful control mechanism, but well worth it, so long as we can make it through the times when the guilt-ridden loons take over.

That’s how I see it.

Thanks for the excellent post on guilt.
I’ll certainly think about that. I also think that there is a luxury in the act of feeling guilty, and the associated striving for expiation of imagined sins. It allows one to ignore reality and real responsibility, while having a pleasurable cathartic experience that has very little connection with real concerns.
The jabbering about the “poor Palestinians” and the chimera of a non-existant “Peace Process” are two cases in point. Before the Wall was built, Tel Aviv buses were being blown up every week, with dozens of dead and hundreds of serious injuries. Yet the liberal Jews still condemn the “mean-spirited” Wall, which has easily saved well over 1000 Jewish lives so far, not to mention an additional thousands of casualties.
G’night.

Good points. There are the true believers, whose motivation I ascribe to abuse of the Golden Rule, empathy run amok. I agree with your post, with the one exception that the US was always so much friendlier than Europe to Jews (there’s really not a comparison) that I don’t like to call it “discrimination”, but just “social rejection”, which I think contributed greatly to Jewish development in the US. Jews never lacked for anything, since if they weren’t allowed to have it (like live on 5th avenue) then they just built their own (Central Park West), but many of those with weak emotions were affected by the idea that they were still “outsiders” to those circles they really wanted to be in.

Of the 21 members of the Central Committee of the Bolshevik Party in April of 1917, three were Ethnic Jews.

Of the 13 members present for the October 10, 1917 meeting that started the October Revolution, six were Jewish: Zinoviev, Kamenev, Leon Trotsky!, Moisei Uritsky, Sverdlov, and Grigory Sokolnikov.

Something about Atheist Jews and Marxism, the dialecticism found in Judaism transitioning easily to Marxism.

Alinsky, Soros, Chomsky et al are the modern day Marxists.

Isn’t this the same AMA which recently endorsed Obama’s health initiatives?

“It’s not blue or red, or Democratic or Republican. This is something that is the AMA’s core values,” Rohack said. “The status quo that is 50 million Americans not having health insurance, a system that has administrative waste and as a result drives up premiums so that it is unaffordable for many patients — that is just not acceptable.”

I’m having a little problem with my sympathy circuits here.

i agree. For this to be a melting pot, there first has to be a willingness on the part of the immigrant to somewhat reduce their allegiance to the motherland and pledge allegiance here. Second, there needs to be some heat applied in order to make them melt. Well, we’ve lost both the willingness and the damn heat for the sake of “multiculturalism” and “diversity.” What’d that net us? I saw CNN go absolutely bonkers this morning when Chuck Grassley at a town hall in Iowa said the government should not be involved in end of life decisions. The reporter mentioned about 17,000 times that there are no death panels in Obama’s plan, and how could Grassley who is one of the more reasoned Republicans say such a lie…

THE PRESIDENT: … I don’t know how much that hip replacement cost. I would have paid out of pocket for that hip replacement just because she’s my grandmother. Whether, sort of in the aggregate, society making those decisions to give my grandmother, or everybody else’s aging grandparents or parents, a hip replacement when they’re terminally ill is a sustainable model, is a very difficult question. If somebody told me that my grandmother couldn’t have a hip replacement and she had to lie there in misery in the waning days of her life – that would be pretty upsetting.

LEONHARDT: And it’s going to be hard for people who don’t have the option of paying for it.

THE PRESIDENT: So that’s where I think you just get into some very difficult moral issues. But that’s also a huge driver of cost, right?

I mean, the chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives are accounting for potentially 80 percent of the total health care bill out here.

LEONHARDT: So how do you – how do we deal with it?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, I think that there is going to have to be a conversation that is guided by doctors, scientists, ethicists. And then there is going to have to be a very difficult democratic conversation that takes place. It is very difficult to imagine the country making those decisions just through the normal political channels. And that’s part of why you have to have some independent group that can give you guidance. It’s not determinative, but I think has to be able to give you some guidance. And that’s part of what I suspect you’ll see emerging out of the various health care conversations that are taking place on the Hill right now.

Kaus quoting Obama on death end of life planning panels.

Given Obama’s pattern of throwing friends and family under the bus politically, is it really such a stretch he might support pulling or reducing care for non-Obama contributors strangers who are consuming too many resources?

Are you telling me that the benificent hand that is Obama, the one who when his voice speaks a country is lifted, that when he waxes oratorically the styrofoam shakes–and Weezie’s knees tremble—and kitchens are gifted—and hope is revealed and change is brought down from high… are you telling me that this wonderful being would ever consider smiting a humble peasant boy like myself….?

Huh?

It used to be a melting pot.

Thanks to uncle Teddy K, we moved away from European immigration and towards 3rd world immigration somewhere in the 60’s, I believe. It’s been all down hill from there.

Tell me, how are the hispanics, arabs, indians, asians, and the Somali “lost boys” assimilating these days?

America has become a cauldron………..not a melting pot. Do NOT claim for yourself the experience of Europeans who came here, worked hard, and embraced the values and greatness of this nation, and then added to it.

Those Europeans created the term “melting pot” through their example. YOU seem to think you can come here, get a gov’t subsidized apt. in NYC, and then claim the term “melting pot”.

It sickens me.

David2.0 on August 13, 2009 at 9:53 AM

Excuse me you ignorant hack? You don’t know anything about my “government subsidized apartement” or my ability to claim melting pot status for this country basd on my situational awareness.

My father came to the united states in the 1960s. He had a medical degree and a thriving practice overseas before coming here. He went through the process of recertifying his medical credentials aka repeating med school for a us degree and then set up a practice here. None of it was government subsidized at any point.

In addition to earning gobs of cash as a result of his exceptional proficiency in his field, he also donated 2 days of every week doing pro bono work in the inner cities
at the health clinic, helping americans who could not afford medical treatment recieve it.

When the time came for me to go to college, none of it was governement subsidized, and eventually after college when i moved to new york city, by manhattan apartment in the financial district was not governement subsidized either…it was subsidized by my work for the wall street companies.

Now i know that just like in the left0sphere where the hate runs rampant with the freaks and extremists, the rightosphere suffers from the same condition…but just because your racist mindset says that melting pot requires having a great grand something or other who was on the mayflower, you are mistaken.

by the way my dad was one of three borthers all with medical degrees and private practices who came to the states at the same time in the 1960s. They all did the same thing my dad did.

I am willing to bet money that my family has contributed far more to the tax base, and given far more to help fellow americans in terms of time and services than your family has in the past 2 generations.

But you feel free to run your mouth again without knowing crap about anyone, just don’t get pissed when you get characterized by the MSM as the party of racist ignorant bigots and back woods hicks and klan members…you feed them.

That’s what happens when you have a community organizer in the White House, he doesn’t know anything except agitation to get his way. The press and congress have let him get away with it 3 times already, I guess the 4th time wasn’t a charm. Now, perhaps, he’ll learn a little about politics.

Our Dear Leader does not know what is in any of these bills, nor does he care. All he has to do is get one passed and then the “regulators” can do anything they want.

It is amazing to me that a substantial minority of those polled are still in favor of his “plan” – the man doesn’t understand that neither endocrinologists nor pediatricians do surgery. How ignorant is that?

Carol in MD on August 13, 2009 at 10:42 AM

Obama is a liar that will say and do anything to advance his agenda of as close to complete government control as he can get.

He know nothing about economics or medicine. He is an uneducated liar. A good liar would at least educate himself on the subject so he would not get caught every stinking time he opens his mouth but his narcissism gets in the way.

We have a sick sick man in the WH and with all the socialists propping him up and protecting him, all we can do is keep up the protests, work for 2010 and then 2012.

Forget the troll. This is serious shit.

ORconservative on August 13, 2009 at 10:47 AM

Slightly O/T: Just listened to Ingraham demagoguing some insurance lobby spokesman. Rather than letting this guy explain himself, she basically insulted his integrity because he wasn’t totally opposed to ObamaCare en toto. Accused him of carrying Duh Won’s water because he wanted to differentiate between the four House bills.

Yesterday, I commented on a thread that she was past her pull date and that’s why she wasn’t on the top conservatives list. Today, she confirmed my view that she’s not much different than the thugs at SEIU – you will blindly adopt the party line or you’re the enemy.

When the true core conservatives coalesce into a viable force, people may be surprised at who gets left at the curb.

platypus on August 13, 2009 at 11:02 AM

There is an argument that one problem with rising healthcare costs is that fee for service payment encourages waste and duplication. Unfortunately, there is little competition with other payment schemes because the govt. via medicare reimburses via fee for service.

Nothing in the current plans addresses this at all.

aikidoka on August 13, 2009 at 11:09 AM

White House’s next pivot: It’s not the EVIL DOCTORS that are evil, it’s the EVIL HOSPITALS that force them to chop off people’s limbs. They’re greedily thirsting for more revenue from hospital stays and $50 aspirin.

Never mind that hospitals are typically crowded, and have tons of policies in place to shoo people out of beds as quick as they can.

After that: it’s the EVIL ANESTHESIOLOGISTS! Or maybe the Big Prosthetics lobby.

SOMEONE in the Bootlick media should ask Obama……

First the person sets up the question by using Barrys’ own words about “80% of costs” that he used in May…
…then they ask him….

“Do you think the elderly that are contributing to those high costs have a DUTY TO DIE?”

Catch him off guard without the prompter and let’s see what he says.

NOTE TO JAKE TAPPER………FEEL FREE TO USE THIS Bootboy.

What’s next, circumcisions? I can hear Obama now:

National Health Care Insurance Reform will largely put an end to this painful and usually expensive procedure.

As my good friend Rev. Wright told me, this a myth perpetrated by Joooooos as a way of lining the pockets of mohels around the world. We just want to keep the gynecologists honest and discourage any unnecessary surgeries when you can accomplish the same thing for a few dollars with a box of Q-Tips.

Besides, why cut part of it off before you even know how big it’s going to get? [laughter]

Obama, what a schmuck!

(FWIW – I posted this comment twice on other posts before getting it on this, the intended post – too many windows open at once!)

Racist. Private Lim Shee Ng, AEF, who lies at Forest Lawn in Buffalo, New York, and who died of injuries sustained after being gassed by the Huns in the trenches, has just as much a right to claim a place in the melting pot as your vaunted Europeans. As does Harry Sumida, Spanish American War Navy veteran, whom Michelle thinks deserved to be taken from his home and placed in Manzanar.

The so-called “third world” was part and parcel of the founding and continued existence of the United States — especially if you count Black contributions.
