Time for a new lie: AARP has endorsed my health-care plan, says Obama

posted at 9:14 pm on August 11, 2009 by Allahpundit

Not the biggest lie of the day but a decent-sized catch. Even so, I feel guilty calling him on it. Does anyone doubt that the reliably lefty AARP brain trust really is backing this travesty, even if they haven’t formally endorsed it? It’s like ACORN insisting they weren’t supporting any candidates in the presidential election last year. Surely The One can be forgiven the eminently reasonable assumption that they’re in the tank.

The country’s largest advocacy group for Americans over 50 issued a statement after the event saying, “While the President was correct that AARP will not endorse a health care reform bill that would reduce Medicare benefits, indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate.”

How’s Obama going to avoid reducing Medicare benefits while promising to reduce overall Medicare spending? Why, by finding magical “savings and efficiencies within the health care system,” of course — the same sort of savings and efficiencies, presumably, that make the post office run so well. As you watch, try to get your mind around the fact that the biggest retiree lobbyist group in the country is formally undecided about a bill that’s guaranteed not only to cut into its constituents’ medical coverage but to force them to compete for doctors’ time with 47 million new insured people. Click the image to watch.

I think they did have a back room deal and Dear Leader let that one slip just a bit. Must not have seen the AARP goons out denying any relationship last night.

He’s lied so much all of his life, it’s almost convincing…until you look at the facts. But the facts are so obvious, it’s immediately clear he is lying. He’s a true sociopath. I’m sure he thinks he’s doing the right thing and equally sure that he thinks he’s a god. Sad we had to elect him so some people could find this out the hard way.

Yeah…remembering how the AARP treated it’s constituents on that video a week back, I’m sure the are ‘undecided’ about ObamaCare.

AARP hasn’t endorse Obamacare?

That’s a pleasant surprise. They poured tons of money into Dem campaigns last year. Sent tons of oldsters out carrying Obama signs, too.

Being an oldster myself, I figure they probably misplaced the endorsement.

Its here somewhere, oh, where are my car keys? I had a really nice Hudson back in the day, drove out to Cedar Point every opening day, too. Nice place that Cedar Point, better than Coney Island. Ever have a really good Coney Island hot dog? To die for. Loaded with those crisp chopped onions and chili. Chili? Did I put that on my shoppiong list? Oh, here are my car keys.

What were we talking about, again? :-)

Just like Hitler believed he was doing the right thing and equally sure that he was a god. The truly sad thing is that if so many in this country weren’t so unintelligent and brainwashed…they’d easily see just how horrific this man is. The facts are COMPLETELY against him. But liberals have never worried about facts. He’s setting the stage for being the WORST president in United States history…but his supporters will insist he’s already the greatest.

At least he left the cops alone.

Chuck Schick on August 11, 2009 at 9:28 PM

Obama delivered so many whoppers today from Portsmouth, I’m surprised the mic he was using didn’t spontaneously combust.

This AARP thing was just one among many of those lies. Obama claiming he didn’t favor a single-payer system was outrageously deceitful, particularly since he’s been captured on tape several times declaring just the opposite.

At this point, I wonder if Obama even knows what he’s saying when he’s saying anything. He seems to be some sort of automated teleprompter reader who, in any impromptu setting, can’t formulate anything consistent.

Wait, I wrote, “seems to be…”

Should read, “he is…”

Lourdes on August 11, 2009 at 9:28 PM

AARP is in the tank. Obama was among friends when he stated the obvious. AARP should lose their tax exempt status just like Acorn should. They are political affiliates.

Hening on August 11, 2009 at 9:29 PM

Here is one example of waste in Medicare that I recently read about.

An oxygen concentrator costs about $600 on the open market. By law, medicare is only allowed to rent them. This costs around $7,142 over 36 months. Medicare picks up 80% while the patient pays the other 20%.

How many other items are like that? But that isnt going to change while govt. has such control as special interests naturally will lobby for their cut or benefit.

AARP is pushing Health Care Reform like crazy. They are working with Obama and the Democrats behind closed doors.

Obama knows that AARP will endorse. He just let the cat out of the bag too soon.

Cindy Munford on August 11, 2009 at 9:34 PM

Everyone should be aware of another ongoing lie from Obama:

He continues to claim that “we aren’t going to reduce services under Medicare.”

THEY’RE REDUCING REIMBURSEMENT RATES TO PHYSICIANS AND PROVIDERS, so, although enrollees will (as they have) continue to pay their premiums for “services” (coverage), they won’t be able (as many already have not been able) to OBTAIN SERVICES. What services they do obtain, won’t be as expected.

So the “services” “won’t be reduced” PER SE, but in actuality, it’s like I wrote yesterday, it’s O-care saying “you’re all going over Niagra Falls but you’ll get a pair of flippers.”

Lourdes on August 11, 2009 at 9:34 PM

What were we talking about, again? :-)

Coldwarrior, as your primary care physician, I ask that you consider scheduling an end-of-life consultation. Clearly, your mind is failing, and you have been identified (notwithstanding any taxes you have paid and/or services rendered to this country) as a waste and inefficiency within the system. The American Association of Pre-Terminal Problems, in conjunction with the Health Exchange, the VA, HHS, and the FDA, has provided some very exciting materials for you to read about the next step you are about to take in your life-quest, which may/may not save Dear Leader the costs to his administration that would otherwise wreak it.

The thing that cracks me up about AARP is this: The life expectancy rate in the country is rising (4 years longer than the last major study), people are working later in life (because they’re taxed so heavily they can’t afford to retire), and the association for retired persons LOWERS their membership age to 50.

Who’s retiring at 50 and thinking they need a 5% discount at RV Campgrounds?

Their supplemental insurance arm backs it, I’m sure.

When the gov’t starts hacking away at Medicare to implement the socialized medicine plan, those members who haven’t quit AARP over this will have to buy supplemental insurance. AARP sells a supplemental policy, and gets a commission on each sale.

AARP is a racket.

You’ll be delighted to know that they are closely aligned with The Hartford. They sell supplemental Medicare policies and …. Thankfully… Thankfully! they are able to bundle Seniors’ automobile and Homeowners policies. And we’re not even talking about excess umbrella liability coverage.

How comforting.

There will have to be private supplemental insurance, to cover what is not going to be covered under the new plan. Even England has supplementals, AFAIK.

So this is the 11th, and the Senate reconvenes September 8th. Another 4 more weeks of this crap?

Someone should tell those fools to go into hiding for the rest of the month. Go on retreat to some resort out of the country.

Obama targeted the ceo of AARP (gave obama $10,000) during campaign. Obama must have promised him something for his quasi endorsement. Wonder what it was?
