The obligatory “Meghan McCain dumps on Michelle” post
posted at 8:30 pm on August 11, 2009 by Allahpundit
I was going to save this for quote of the day but the boss deserves a defense.
So Michelle Malkin successfully rounds out the trifecta of extreme female conservative pundits, following Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter, who believe that I, and Republicans like me, need to shut up and get out of the party. Is this surprising? Not really, given my father’s complicated history with the extreme right of the GOP. But what confuses me is this: Malkin recently posted an item on her blog about how “drowning out opposing views is simply un-American.”…
I don’t know exactly what about me threatens them so much, other than that people are listening to me. Malkin has the No. 1 book on The New York Times bestseller hardcover nonfiction list, but I have nearly twice as many Twitter followers as she does. And trust me, Twitter is more of an indication of where young people are than books published by the hyper-conservative publisher Regnery—which will be bringing you Carrie Prejean’s new book and published one of Ann Coulter’s.
There is a place for the far right in this party, Malkin included, and I respect their right to be heard. But the Republican Party will continue to lose elections unless we start reaching out in a more effective way to people my age and to moderates. Barack Obama won the last election on the slogan “Yes We Can,” and there is no reason why Republicans can’t go forth and win elections with equally positive messages. We will not get anywhere by continuing to sell hate and fear. Of course, there is always going to be a fraction of the GOP that is going to respond to that, but at some point we have to start facing the reality that hate and fear will only get us so far. Those emotions are not sources for inspiration of joining anything, let alone supporting a political party.
Laying aside (a) the glaring error of imputing Pelosi’s quote about un-American activity to Michelle, who was quoting her ironically, (b) the arbitrary assumption that Twitter followers are a fair gauge of influence among younger voters, and (c) the lingering question of why MegMac would want to be part of any party that contains a wing she perceives as being devoted to “hate and fear,” this whole line of attack demonstrates how fundamentally she misunderstands why so many “far right” Republicans don’t like her. As I think I’ve said before, McCain’s really no further towards the center than I am; she supports gay marriage, as do I, and she’s conventional on most other core conservative issues (guns, abortion, religion). And yet the base hates her while they, errrrr, tolerate me. Why is that? If the “old guard” of right-wingers is so retrograde, how does a wayward atheist like me end up co-blogging at one of the biggest righty blogs in America? Simple answer: I spend most of my time challenging the left while Meggie Mac spends hers challenging the right, so I have a certain baseline credibility on our side that she has yet to establish. And why would anyone listen to criticism of their own side from someone who doesn’t (yet) have credibility? I tried to explain that to her, both here and on Twitter, but the message simply hasn’t taken — the proof of which is the fact that she’s now tangled with Coulter, Ingraham, and the boss in high-profile fashion and has yet to tangle (as far as I know) with anyone of similar prominence on the left. All the vitriol spilled this week by the Democrats about health-care protesters, all the demagoguery directed at her fellow conservatives, and the thing that sticks in her craw the most is … Michelle taking a one-line shot at her during a public chat?
Which reminds me: I can’t find the transcript, but from what I can recall, MM didn’t say she should leave the party or even that she should shut up. What she said was that Meghan was someone she’d like to hear “less” from, i.e. that she’s overexposed. I leave you to judge whether she’s right. Exit question: If Michelle’s so “far right” and all about “drowning out” voices that sometimes disagree her, how’d Ed and I last this long at Hot Air?
Update: Predictably, Meghan’s column is the number-one story on MSNBC’s hour of DNC propaganda power tonight.

Here is my prediction; this fat, rich girl will keep up her nonsense with her liberal friends and democrat handlers stoking the fire of her raging ego. At some point her ego will become so huge that she will announce her move to the democrat party, believing that it will be of earth shattering importance and a huge blow to conservatives. This move will be discouraged by her democrat handlers because she is of more use as this supposed “dissenting voice of reason” in the republican party. At that point she will be known as what she is, a fat, rich liberal girl with limited intellect, will be one of a million, and will fade into obscurity.

Hmmmm.
Pejoratives aside the issue I have with MegMac is her automatic assumption that conservatives should listen to her. Which is odd since she only became a Republican as a 2008 birthday present for Sen. John McCain her father so she hasn’t even been a Republican for one (1) whole year yet.
What a strange situation.

McCain`s excerpt above contains so many contradictions and mistakes that were I her professor, I would just give up on her paper and perhaps give her one shot to write something worthy.
For some mysterious reason, all conservatives or classical liberals are now on the extreme right. If McCain wants to label us that way, I could care so much than less. Way less! Do you understand McCain with little brain?
I am glad you have way more twitter and like yeah that is so cuuuueeeel. I give a rat`s arse about twitter. Most twitter hits go to the best and worst. The best are viewed cuz they are the best. The worst are viewed cuz they are entertainment. You, McCain are entertainment. In fact, I may add to your cuuueel twitter by checking it out myself. Does this mean you are popular? I mean, a lot of people in the old days used to show up for public executions. I guess those poor devils about to get the choppo felt pretty good too about their POPULARITY, too. Or maybe not.
Jeebus! McCain senior is a doofus and so is his daughter. The nut indeed does not fall far from the tree. Did I get my fruits and nuts confused? I dunno. Anyway . . . .

While I understand the conventional media’s interest in MeggieMac (same as with her dad – a Republican who constantly criticizes the Right), what’s your fascination with her?
She may agree with you on most issues, but she undermines the Movement (the entire right-of-center), by her constant attack on it’s most active and informed part, the libertarian and conservative base.
I’ve got no problem with informed debate (I much prefer it to troll bashing), but she is obviously neither well informed, nor does she seem to have given much thought to her positions.
If she ignores the advice and admonitions from you, a friendly correspondent, how can she (or you) expect us to see her as anything other than a self-aggrandizing, brainless twit, whose only claim-to-fame is being born into an influential family.
Who does she think she is? … a Kennedy? (or Ron Reagan, Jr?)

I woke up in at 3:15 a.m. this morning to hear this being discussed a length on Red Eye. During the half-time report Mr. Levy had a little rant that you could only imagine was what Ms. McCain might have written to Allah to express her displeasure. Remarks from the cast were pretty much what you see here sans that fat jokes. Funny stuff.

Let her have her following on twitter, but keep her out of Hot Air–please. Michelle Malkin does not need defending–she is respected and insightful. I think the goal of trying to recruit younger voters into the Republican Party is a valid one. However, I’m not at all sure that Meghan is the correct messenger.
She is 24 and a very young 24 at that. But, much more importantly, she has not written or stated any positive reasons why she is a Republican (which I am not at all sure she is). If she is claiming to be because she feels she has to, given her family, she should stop; go out and learn what she really believes. Do some growing up and listen to a multitude of opinions. She can’t express what she believes or why she believes it at this point. No one will take her seriously until she can.
In the meantime, she needs to stop acting like a supposed “badass” and taking on accomplished, intelligent, articulate conservative women. Her column about Michelle was so overblown it was ridiculous.

1. McCain wasn’t doing too well prior to Palin as I recall
2. Much of the hate emanating from GOP seems to have been
generated from the McCain staff….who for some reason
give the opposing party more bona fides than their own..

why they lose elections.

Meghan McCain only generates news due to our culture of celebrity. That culture is so debased that the daughter of a failed Presidential candidate is considered a ‘celebrity’ de facto.
She is a woman of remarkably little achievement who has very little to say yet she gets airtime as she is a celebrity and of course a useful idiot for MSNBC etc.

God, I love naive Twitters like Allah’s main squeeze who have no concept of target marketing (as her sneer toward Regnery shows). AllahPundit: you hit the nail on the head. She is focused solely on battling the Right while you engage the Left.
Right after her dad lost the election, Meghan started a subtle battle on Palin…it was her way of saying “my dad lost the election because of Palin, not because the majority of the country was duped by Obama.” She is still bitter and now wants to attack other GOP conservatives. Yes she doesn’t get how that damages her credibility.

TheUnrepentantGeek on August 12, 2009 at 11:41 AM
I maintain it’s because she’s a dolt who can’t defend her opinions. The fact that she’s *ever* the Republican voice on TV is so annoying. Of course there are Republicans who support gay marriage, or are pro-choice, or anti-gun, or whatever but they can generally argue their minority position respectfully and well. Your argument for gay marriage does not come down to “people who don’t support gay marriage are full of hate.” Hers does because she isn’t very smart or thoughtful, just famous and blond. I hate that she in *any way* claims to represent me. She needs to get off the stage.

Did she really just bring up her Twitter followers into her defense? Wow, just wow.
RandyHaddock on August 12, 2009 at 12:20 PM
MegMac needs to get off her soapbox and start listening, and maybe show up at a “townhall” meeting. Obama’s attempt at socialized medicine is scaring “moderates” off in droves (most polls show majorities of Independent voters AGAINST ObamaCare), so it is Obama, not Republicans, who are inspiring “fear”, if not hate, among moderate voters.
MegMac also needs to stop conflating all conservative columnists with “the extreme right”. While Ann Coulter, for example, can turn off “moderates” with some over-the-top name-calling, the “tone” of Michelle Malkin’s writing and speaking is carefully measured–she doesn’t go “over the top”, but she does the necessary homework to dig up quotes from liberals and expose their true policies and intentions, and explain to her readers why they should be opposed.
Michelle Malkin is an opinionated conservative, but she backs up her assertions with carefully-researched facts, which Meghan McCain does not.
Meghan McCain needs to drop the “hate and fear” meme, and not conflate the two. “Hate” is always a negative emotion, but “fear” can be positive, if people can be led to “fear” a real danger if that danger is explained to them. Is it really wrong to “fear” jumping off a cliff or sailing into a hurricane?
Senior citizens now JUSTIFIABLY “fear” losing Medicare coverage and/or private health insurance from ObamaCare, and they’re speaking out about it, even though they may not “hate” Obama personally.
MegMac needs to get a life, and learn what really motivates people, rather than spouting off about what she knows nothing about. Without her father’s name, she would be a great unknown. Her father, from his time in Hanoi, knows what “hate and fear” really are, and that has shaped his character. Meghan McCain has no such experience, and should learn before she pretends to teach.
Steve Z on August 12, 2009 at 12:23 PM

Meghan who?
This girl can’t carry on a coherent policy discussion about much of anything other than, obviously, twitter.
She needs to understand that the reason the Republican Party lost the last election is because her father was its candidate – not because right leaning voters like myself left our respect outside the polling place and went in and voted for her father.
Many of us would not have even voted for him if he hadn’t picked a conservative as a running mate.

How can a RINO leave the GOP? They are joined at the hip. The Party is trying to get the Conservative out of the belly of the RINO but the hairball is too big to cough up. That is why the little twitter M. McCain has been brought in to win over the hearts and minds of the base so they will exit voluntarily, but leave their votes behind
Makes you wonder who the little twitter thought ran for President on the GOP ticket in the last election?
That is your fault AP. If you hadn’t linked to her I never would have heard of the little twitter
I won’t mind if you stop posting links to the little twitter. I still trust your opinions and check out the Headlines. It is a waste of time to read her, but it is not a waste of time to understand the strategy that finances her promotion to spokesperson for the GOP
Conservatives do not get honest communications from the party elites, but they can take their inferences from the various little twitters being paraded out to build the new RINO progressive party
The RINOs nade a mistake in the last election assuming conservatives would follow the path of the serfs and hand over their sovereignty to the Lords in return for protection from the Vandals. History showed the serfs died a thousand deaths under the Lordships, while under the Vandals they would have died but once

Congrats Meggers – you got people to talk about you by attaching yourself to the brilliant, incomparable Michelle Malkin.

Its such nonsense. She starts fights with women who tower over her in every possible measure because then we’ll talk about her. She has nothing else to say. Whoever said she’ll go Democrat in a couple years was right on the money. Till then can we please have a blackout?

Megan’s just jealous because she lacks lizard vision.
Good4Onan on August 12, 2009 at 4:46 PM
She is cute but not too bright, and a little annoying.
cableguy615 on August 12, 2009 at 5:04 PM
What a group of cynics. Meghan is a Twitter thumping machine, yo!
thegreatbeast on August 12, 2009 at 5:05 PM
Unfortunately, Peggy Noonan is almost as vacuous as Meghan McCain.
molonlabe28 on August 12, 2009 at 5:12 PM
She gives the rest of us spoiled rich white conservative girls a bad rap. Go away, Meggie, Daddy lost the election.
micmac on August 12, 2009 at 5:15 PM
Ah, Megan, Megan….
Blond, airheaded, not pretty enough to be a model, and not smart enough for anything else…..
HBowmanMD on August 12, 2009 at 5:28 PM
How many other girls of her age would be able to have their own column in national publications? Too bad she’s so liberal. We could use some bright, conservative young people in the Republican party. Maybe, there’s still hope for her.
theaddora on August 12, 2009 at 5:46 PM
Oh Meghan PLEASE! Are you getting your dose right?
Please go back and have them run the test again. Sounds like she a little off balance.
Make sure your Daddy give you water with your medicine in the morning instead of the Kool Aid!
BigMike252 on August 12, 2009 at 5:46 PM
Meghan has the same problem as her father the Washington DC GOP elite: no principles.
McCain couldn’t run on spending, tax cuts, illegal immigration & the border, etc.
Conservative’s do well in general elections because most Americans are not threatened by conservative principles and agree with them.
A socialist-lite is always going to lose to a socialist.

Meghan is the proverbial ditsy blond

AP nailed it spot on. AP attacks the left and that is what gives him credibility in my eyes when goes against my views on an intellectual level. Megs does nothing but attack my views and my party and has no credibility. Oh, and by the way Megs, I’m 23 and I do not follow anyone’s twitter, but I do buy books from conservative authors like Michelle,Laura, and Ann.
SG1_Conservative on August 12, 2009 at 6:43 PM
To further discredit her remark about Twitter, and like how totally popular she is and omg she has soooo many loyal fans who like, totally love and support her AND the GOP, I should probably confess to the fact that I too follow her on Twitter (well, I did untill about 10 minutes ago when I learned just how bad she has let it go to her head) because I cannot stand her and I am amused by how stupid the girl is.
And I too, am a young 20 something conservative girl.
