I propose that we gather a team of doctors who should form legislation regarding term limits. Seems awfully fair. Or, better yet, let’s get a team of farmers together to work out a solution for torte reform. Firemen, determining the best areas to cut the budget.

Along those lines, I guess the whole “hands off my womb” crowd hasn’t exactly figured out that these thugs in office have a lot more than their wombs in mind with this bill. Hypocrites, the whole lot of them.

Now this idiot claims that a “swastika’ was painted on his office! I’ll bet his own staffers did this for publicity.

Best me to to it. I think it was an inside job too.

He is the same guy who during the debate on the Cap N Trade bill voiced some sort of objection concerning the regulation of Wall St traders related to the new carbon offset funds like Al Gore runs, and Waxman told him no problem and put the placeholder in the bill telling him we come back to it later.

Does this guy seem like someone who is smart enough to figure out the derivatives market or ask any sort of smart question about it? Yeah it was a set up for the cameras at CSPAN so that they could show a Democrat voicing concern and another Democrat compromising.

This guy votes whichever way Nancy tells him to.

Not familiar with how insurance companies must operate?

If you have insurance, any insurance, and you and say a great big whole bunch of fellow policy holders with that one insurance company just happen to all be struck by lightning on the same day…there would be a great possibility that your insurance company go broke.

And maybe a bunch of you, maybe all of you, or maybe just a few of you get your benefit. But the other policy holders? If they got hit by lightning the next day? Might not see a penny.

Thus the need to exempt insurance companies from the basic anti-trust rules. Many many diverse insurance companies share liability…they pool funds, pool assets, just in case there is a Katrina in NOLA and a Katrina in Miami, a Katrina in NYC on the same weekend.

Reinsurance…something else that is given lax regulation under anti-trust rules…is a means by which an insurance company can protect itself with other insurance companies against the risk of losses. Individuals and corporations obtain insurance policies to provide protection for various risks such as hurricanes, earthquakes, lawsuits, mass deaths. Reinsurance allows an insurance company to offer higher limits of protection to a policyholder than its own assets would allow. It also allows a an insurance company to allow lower premiums…lower costs to the policy holder…a good thing.

Lloyd’s of London, perhaps the most famous and oldest of the insurance companies actually does not issue insurance policies directly to a person.

They serve to provide insurance to insurance companies, primarily maritime insurance. If you are a company having a clientage with Lloyd’s you can insure a dancer’s legs, an actresses face or bosom, a concert pianist’s fingers…and over the years many have, for astronomical sums in benefits should a leg be broken, a face scarred, bosoms sag, fingers get stuck in the keyboard cover.

If the insurance companies were held tightly to anti-trust rules, they’d be limited in the amount they could pay for a claim to the amount of cash on hand on that particular day. Might be a bad day. You’d get nothing, and the company would instantly be insolvent.

Without being exempt from the rules, your premiums for something as simple a minimal liability insurance from a company like SafeAuto would be several times higher…perhaps out of reach for the average driver needing coverage.

Those nasty words…profit…and exemption…collusion…have been so misused and misunderstood over the years. I’d have to believe that it is purposeful.
