Turning loose the SEIU goons, who will be exempt from ObamaCare, does show the hand. The real agenda exposed!

I agree with earlier poster, this is not about healthcare, it's about a union <strike>paradise</strike> hegemony.

Now that's really going to help America compete with China and India. Is this willful stupidity on the part of the Dems I am now wondering?

Let the boycott start here:

    http://www.seiu.org/a/members/benefits.php#buyingguide

I’m putting AT&T wireless and Goodyear at the top of my list.

Laura in Maryland on August 10, 2009 at 4:01 PM

I’m not sure what that link showed when you posted it, but I don’t see much listed there now.

There were some companies commented out such as :
GOODYEAR TIRE AND SERVICE
CINGULAR WIRELESS
POWELL’S BOOKSTORE

and interestingly this was also “removed” from the site:

    a href=”/a/health-care-for-all-now.php”
    img src=”/images/buttons/healthcare-for-all.jpg” alt=”Healthcare For All” border=”0″

Could it be, they’ve been a bit too brazen?

Desperation is setting in, they are watching their dream burn up right in front of them, and the fools, not realizing that they are setting the fires.

Representatives Pelosi and Hoyer have called this health care debate a "defining moment" for America, and so it is. And I would add most particularly for American journalism, for I argue, quite simply, that it is time for American journalists--overwhelmingly liberal--to decide whether or not they are going to be content being court recorders (as they should be) or juries deciding guilt and judges meeting out punishments (as they should not). Thus, I argue simply that the time has come for "Objective Journalism's Last Stand".

But before I explain more fully, a story needs to be told. In 1770, in the city of Boston, there occurred a confrontation between Americans and British regulars that resulted in the blood of colonials being shed--the famous "Boston Massacre." Now, this is not the time nor place to go into historical inquisition into which side was in the right and which in the wrong, nor is it the time and place to try to extrapolate to today and say "this" side is the unruly mob inciting to violence and "that" side the one beset upon. Instead, I merely note that immediately after the massacre the British soldiers who had fired the shots were put on trial for murder--in Massachusetts, where the attack had occurred.

Now, needless to say, local feeling did run somewhat against the "lobsterbacks", and it had been made clear by the tearing down of Thomas Hutchinson's house a few years earlier by the Sons of Liberty that those who tried to curry favor with the crown would face opposition from at least some of their fellow citizens. Thus, finding a lawyer for the British soldiers did pose something of a problem, for whomever took on the job also took on the potential risk of being tarred and feathered.

But there was a young man of talent, name of John Adams, who realized that, above all, for the cause of liberty to succeed and not be tarnished as a mere grab for power against the legitimate sovereign, that the British soldiers had to have a fair trial. And so, even though he was beginning to turn (if he had not already turned) against the Imperial system, and even though he was cousin of that man who had helped cause a lot of the trouble to start with (Sam Adams), he became the soldiers’ lawyer--and he got the soldiers acquitted. He later, of course, went on to become eventually the fiercest proponent of a separate American nation in 1776--the "Colossus of Independence", as he was called.

I mention this because American journalism has allowed itself to descend into a moribund state, seemingly unable to offer serious and sustained examination of one political party, while offering slightly different treatment to the other. I do not expect many journalists to acknowledge this state of affairs, but do expect them to understand that it is moving closer and closer to being conventional wisdom amongst the populace--if it is not already.

And now we have come to the health care reform "debate". And to my journalistic friends--us being Americans all--I simply say this: I understand that you probably prefer liberalism, that you probably vote Democratic, that you would probably like this administration to succeed, that you probably didn't respect the last administration, that you probably don't respect conservatism from an intellectual point of view, and that religion may be at the heart of a large part of it. Fine. I may actually have some points in agreement with you, and many not. But what you need to understand is that there reaches a point where the concept of journalism demands that you can no longer ignore certain basic contradictions because they harm your preferred political party, or you will forever lose the idea of "objective journalism" being reached within your lifetime.

I understand that most of the “journalists” who have allowed things to reach this state of affairs will not, by this point, care about what I just said. But I find it impossible, absolutely impossible, to believe there are not still true believers out there, journalists who wish to be masters of the noble profession of journalism, who realize that even though we are but flawed humans, that even though we can only see reality as but through a glass darkly, that nevertheless there is some measure of fairness and objectivity that can be and should be reached--and that, when they are honest with themselves, is not being reached.

And so to some young journalistic John Adams, I simply say that the actions and words of the White House and Democratic Congress have now reached the point of "doublespeak", and if someone, somewhere, does not decide to risk the obloquy of journalistic and liberal "elites" and point out these doublestandards as critically as they would if they came from a Republican administration/Congress, then not only will we lose journalism, but we will eventually lose this Republic. Don't worry--we'll get a new one. But we will lose this one. I'd prefer not to see that happen.

Barack Obama said--at least once--that he would prefer single payer. Maybe that should be looked at a bit. Linda Douglass has said the White House actions were illegal. Maybe that should be investigated. American protesters have been beaten for protesting. Certainly those who called out those who did the beating should be questioned about the matter. Those who have used in the past and use in the present organized astroturfing and then denounce citizens if they attempt to do the same (assuming that the people are in fact not just being passionate and spontaneous in their opposition) maybe, just maybe, should be asked to explain the logical conundrum. By journalists even. One would think.

Simply put, the stress that the Democrats are trying to put on the idea of credulity is more than should be borne unexamined. It should be examined, it must be examined. And examined by journalists, if we are to still have something called journalism.

And yes, this means that perhaps the liberal cause will be harmed, the President harmed, and the Democratic party harmed. So be it--for if we continue to allow any and all slanders to pass merely because the side we favor says it, will we have a Republic much longer? Maybe, maybe not—methinks we will, but not before interesting times are reached--but it will definitely outlast any kind of journalism that caused that sad, sad state of affairs to be possibly reached.

No. As painful as it may be, a young John Adams needs to stand up and defend as forcefully those he does not favor as those he does. The time has come, at long last, for decency. It is time for “Objective Journalism’s Last Stand.”

Okay I Googled Rep. Himes meeting and the only thing I found was a guy on a blog complaining that he was a No Show? I went to his site and he is going for the phone meetings. Does that mean that he couldn't get union folks to participate?

nevermind...there's still a pretty obvious link to some petition to "Keep Health Care On the Map" at the top of the page. I guess I should have scrolled up before posting (whoops!)

I'm not sure what that link showed when you posted it, but I don't see much listed there now.

There were some companies commented out such as :
GOODYEAR TIRE AND SERVICE
CINGULAR WIRELESS
POWELL'S BOOKSTORE

and interestingly this was also "removed" from the site:

a href="/a/health-care-for-all-now.php"

Could it be, they've been a bit too brazen?
