Quote of the day
posted at 10:52 pm on August 10, 2009 by Allahpundit
“Oh, those dumb white Southerners! No other group in American society could possibly believe in preposterous conspiracy theories. Well, maybe one other group, the most reliably Democratic demographic in the whole U.S. electorate. A 2005 study by RAND and Oregon State University showed that a majority of blacks believed that a cure for AIDS was being withheld from the poor; that nearly half believed that AIDS was man-made, with a quarter believing that it was created in a U.S. government laboratory and 12 percent naming the CIA as its source. Black paranoia about AIDS is understandable, given the Tuskegee experiments. Even so, the theory that AIDS was created by the CIA to commit genocide against black people is wackier than the craziest Birther conspiracy theories. Would Kathleen Parker write, or the Washington Post publish, a column arguing that black Democrats ‘have seceded from sanity’? Would Kevin Drum applaud Parker’s insult and extend to it to all African-Americans?…
Curiously, the progressive punditariat, so voluble about ‘angry white men,’ is silent about the decades-old Republican bias of white women. Even more curious is the paradox that liberals routinely denounce white Southern Protestants for holding the very social views that are held by majorities or near-majorities of blacks and Latinos who form the electoral base of the Democratic Party…
Blacks and Latinos, it appears, are allowed to hold conventionally conservative social views about gay rights, abortion and (in the case of blacks) immigration without being mocked and denounced by elite white liberals in the pages of the Washington Post and Mother Jones, as long as they vote for the Democratic Party on the basis of other issues. This strategic logic should lead liberals to seek out and welcome the vote of white social conservatives in the South and elsewhere, as long as they vote for Democrats for reasons other than the social issues. Indeed, socially conservative white voters helped to create and to maintain the new Democratic majority in Congress. But many liberals, it would appear, would rather have a smaller Democratic Party than one that includes more white Southerners with typically ‘black’ or ‘Latino’ views about sex and reproduction.
Here’s how I see it. Liberals should respect and promote the interests of working Americans of all races and regions, including those who despise liberals. They are erring neighbors to be won over, not cretins to be mocked.”

They are, they vote for the right party right now. Remember when GW Bush’s advisors were caught on tape using the “N” word? Oh wait, that was James Carville and Rahm Emanuel and they worked for Clinton. I need another example.
Remember the time when a prominent person threated to cut the nuts off Obama for talking down to “N” word? Oh wait, that was Jesse Jackson caught on tape, and he ran for President as a Democrat and supports all Democrat politicians. OK, one more try.
That syphillis study you brought up. Just like the one LA cop example, we can paint them all with the same brush. That study was cruel to say the least. Those white men conspiring to decieve those uneducated and trusting black men, it was terrible. A stain against all that are white, for eternity. Right? But black doctors and nurses were involved too. At least this is a perfect reason not to trust the government with your healthcare.
Grow up. This is America, anything is possible. Ask Obama.

Speaking of “Free Bird,” it was sweeet hearing the guitar player (current one) from Lynard Skynard on Hannity a week or so ago, declaring that O-care stank (not his words but he was decidedly against it).

I don’t identify myself by my ancestor’s country of origin, or how they were treated. I identify myself by my country of origin, and what opportunities I’ve had in my life. The government whose testicles you slurp have given plenty of opportunities to others based on the color of their skin, while their schools made me feel ashamed of the color of my skin. Apparently, you’re a victim fetishist who can only make something of their life by whining about what didn’t happen to you, or anyone living.

And yet, blacks still vote in the same corrupt politicians to power from the party that is destroying the creation of a larger black middle class, oh and the party that looks the other way while 16,000,000 black babies have been aborted since Roe…
….but tahts okay as long as you elect “one of us”
Look at detroit.
TOTAL train wreck in every way. Fiscally, infrastructure-wise… my goodness, there isn’t a single grocery store within miles of downtown even.
And yet, every few years black Detroit votes in Kwame-clones because he’s “authentic” and “one of us” (never mind his text message habits)
I keep thinking “one of these days, the mask will slip, and half of American blacks will realize they have been DUPED by the Democrats for 50 years, and they will start splitting their vote between D & R”
Am I just a dreamer/??

No, it’s because they are capable of rational thought. Most blacks I know are fairly conservative and deeply patriotic. They’ve just been led around for so long by sanctimonious Democrat politicians trying to feel good about themselves and keeping their sorry dead asses in political office in the bargain.
Your approach is the irrational one. Your party is constantly trading on resentments and grievances and divisions.

I cannot imagine how it must feel to be a liberal right now. To have everything seemingly within your grasp, yet still feel it slipping away….oh, and you’d better believe it, it’s slipping away! We must try to act more compassionate toward the misguided left-wingers who troll these threads. Picking fights here must help to fill up some of the emptiness they feel so deep inside. If and when we take back the executive and the Congress (the elections are ours to lose), we need to erect a concerted effort to destroy liberal ethnic voting constituencies. No holds barred. Ethnic voting constituencies is utter poison to the Republic and to Liberty.
Conservatives need to go into the inner city ghettoes and do townhalls. Point out all the abortion clinics preying upon them. Point out the drug dealers, the junkies, the gangbangers. We need to open minority eyes to how Liberalism has screwed them over.
We can do this. Truth is the enemy of Liberalism. Truth destroys liberalism. Just look at what we have done to Obama in the past few weeks! Roosevelt started prying AA votes from the Party. We can do it back to them.
Someone get Cosby to join in, the man did more to destroy the race barrier than Michael Jackson or Obama ever did.

I know.
It’s beautiful.
I’m one of the select few that *knows* ObamaCare will fail. I just feel it. I’ve started watching MSNBC in the evenings, and it makes my blood boil, but I”m giddy with anticipation. Today Chris Matthews told an anti-obama care to ‘cut the crap’ and when the guy said “thanks chris” matthews said “dont say thanks chris just start talking!!”
the left has 60 Senators, 250 Reps, a marxist President….. and they are STILL GOING TO LOSE. And the Chris Matthews’ of the world KNOW it.
That moron after Matthews, the screamer on ‘the ed show’, was unhinged about how “americans are FOR single payer” because he went to 1 town hall himself in Portland, ORegon. Hey ed, by your logic, I went to a town hall in NW Arkansas, so I deduce “americans are FOR prohibition of beer”. Sheesh.
But i just can’t wait. I cant WAIT for this to fail, because the idea that with a supermajority of, well, EVERYTHING, you cant get anything done?
It’s beautiful.
The secret MSNBC truth is, they could pass it today were it not for DEMOCRATS but MSNBC keeps blaming republicans for doing “scare tactics”.
So what? So just vote for it Dems, you have the numbers. Its like Kerrys lame excuse for voting in favor of Iraq. “George Bush talked me into it” BS
I for one welcome the destruction of ObamaCare…. because it will be “File….Save As” GOLD from all the lefty blogs’ rants on the day this thing dies.

Was talking to one of my very liberal friends on that same subject over the weekend. He is one hell of an old book restorer, so I don’t want to p*** him off, but, he had no answer at all when asked if the Dems control the Congress and the White House, why haven’t they been able to pull off a Dem version of Newt’s first 90 days in Congress back in 94?
He mumbled something about Republicans obstructing things…and then changed the subject.

OK, I see your point. If Obama was born abroad, and his mother was only 18 years old, Obama was not a citizen at birth because his mother would not have spent the required five years in the U.S. after the age of 14 before giving birth abroad.
Pretty thin, but interesting…
By “Natural Born Citizen” I assume you mean “A Citizen at Birth” since there is no standard definition for “natural born citizen”.

If you are a techie geek (meant in the positive sense) then NSA would be a fit, especially if you have a grasp of language.
MI? Not the MI it used to be…very small number of actual operators, the rest are in any of the dozen or so MI brigades doing ash and trash stuff.
Navy Intel? Small, but they do some pretty decent work…getting in, that’s the key. Heavy selection process.
AF? Don’t think you’d like that.
The Dark Side? My old stomping grounds? In the middle of some massive changes, and the attrition rate of old hands is going to skyrocket now that Holder has decided to go after them…despite Obama’s “pledge” not to. Might not wish to be in a mentorless outfit right off the bat.
Keep your options open..and max out your GPA…pick up a Rosetta Stone series for one of the off the wall languages…get overseas a bit…makes you all the more attractive to all of the above.

It is going through one of its re-birthing episodes, and Holder’s announcement isn’t going to help morale over on the Dark Side. But there are opportunities with the old outfit that one simply cannot find in any of the others. Nicely said. And when ObamaCare fails, or if they pass something without at least a public option, the hardcore Leftist base is going to devour their leaders. The problem has always been that the Dems got their power by hiding their agenda, acting all moderate and keeping people focused on Bush. They never had a mandate for their socialism, but deceived themselves into believing otherwise.

A friend of mine was a REMF in the personnel department of a major metropolitan police force. He told me about a personnel survey he had monitored. To gain understanding of the degree of mistrust within the department, they asked on a survey (that covered a lot of other stuff) “Do you think OJ Simpson was framed by LAPD?” 0% of white/asian/hispanic male officers said yes, a few percent of non-black female officers said yes, and 24% of black officers (male and female) said yes.
My friend was amazed by this and sought out a number of black officers for off the record chats. No matter how much logic he put forth, he was unable to convince any OJ ‘troothers’ that OJ was guilty.

I think more of the black population should be informed as to the origins of Planned Parenthood and then see how they like the Democrat Party.
CP on August 11, 2009 at 1:24 AM
I’d like to think that would make a difference, but somehow I doubt it.
capitalist piglet on August 11, 2009 at 1:27 AM
You are most likely correct in that.
The dumbing down of education over the past 40 years has hit the Black community the hardest.
In effort to somehow try to compensate for centureis of oppression, the expectations and requirements of other wise capable and clever young men and women were lowered, tremendously.
Teaching these young men and women to read…that is a major struggle. I know, I’ve taught in urban schools.
Beyond teaching them to read, there is a major hurdle of teaching these young men and women to synthesize what they have read and develop cogent independent thought.
It is criminal. The chains were removed 150 years ago…but the chains on their young minds continue to be tightened by our overall public education system, one that is more oriented toward teeacher tenure and retirement and perks than it is oriented toward liberating young minds.
Have seen it at the collegiate level as well.
Imagine discussing a subject with a student who constantly asks “Where does it say that in the text?” after being assigned several readings from several books.
Having to put various pieces from different writers together from different texts to develop an independent appraisal, a synthesis, of the overall theme is often like trying to instruct a Chinese student in Yoruba.
So, no, I also do not believe that even if you showed many many people the roots of Planned Parenthood, and the vicious beliefs of Sanger and company, and the Democrats holding these same vicious beliefs lovingly to their bosom, most will still refuse to believe it to be true, since they’ve been “told” that it is the Republicans and the Right that is the cause of all their angst and hard times.
Over 40 years of this neo-enslavement going on right in front of us. And they take it in, allow themselves to be part of it, support and endorse it, because those evil conservatives are bad.
[I apologize for the mini-rant. This is and has been a hot button issue for me for many many years.]

The left today is not particularly liberal. I think traditional liberalism is archaic. I personally think I’m pretty much of a traditional liberal, and I can definitely say that I don’t relate to the left.
They are stuffed with odd contradictions, such as what you point out.
It’s just an odd political partisan time we’re going through. Neither side makes a lot of sense most of the time. Cool heads aren’t prevailing.
I’m convinced that’s why Obama appeals personally. He’s fairly cool-headed, at least most of the time. I think his demeanor is inauthentic. I think he’s actually not cool-headed, but he talks that talk often enough that people keep hoping.
Most of normal Americans can’t stand politics for good reason. The nuts are in charge.

The liberal party has no use for free black people, physically nor mentally free. If you are a free black person you’re simply an uncle tom or some such.
Meanwhile in Detroit’s primary for city council and mayor office, they were proud to have a 17% voter turn out.

The Democrat party understands that White Southerners won’t stand by and watch their votes be used to tear down their social structure the way minority voters historically have.
The Democrat party also understands that the reason that minority voters have historically done this is because of their visceral hatred and fear of the Republican party. Which is why they feed and expand that particular bigotry as much as is humanly possible.

Since, Allahpundit admits he’s prejudice against southerners, I wonder who he dislikes more: Southerners or his girlfriend who made a complete a$$ out of herself?
Malkin has the No. 1 book on The New York Times bestseller hardcover nonfiction list, but I have nearly twice as many Twitter followers as she does.
Unbelievable. The idiot still hasn’t figured out that her so called popularity is due to her being seen as a tool by the left and a trainwreck one can’t look away from by many on the right.
And she thinks her “popularity” is a sign of accomplishment? Can she be anymore shallow? And she thinks because she has a different publisher for a book she hasn’t written yet (and if her online writings are any indication, will go directly to the bargain bin), make her better?
But, if she wants to keep making a fool out of herself, if idiots are going to keep sucking up to her because of her notoriety and money (let me name names: AP, Levy, Maxwell, Hammer, etc.), it’s pure entertainement.

Amen, Sister! By the way, we drive three full-size crew cab trucks. My husband’s toy is a Chevy 4X4 with 33″ mud tires, nerf bars, and loud pipes. You cannot get anymore redneck than that. Also, our newest expense is a big John Deere tractor. There is no shame in Southern roots, we live on a dead-end dirt road-12 miles from the closest town. My kids can play outside, my parent’s live next door, Uncle across the street. I love our way of life, my kids are safe and we raise horses and dumb labs and coon dogs.

Leftism is all about Venn diagrams. Find a “set” to which you can ascribe a “grievance”, and position yourself politically to be the only one to resolve that grievance. Aggregate these aggrieved “sets” and eventually you assemble enough of a base to find yourself elected. Find a reason to divide, and exploit that all to hell.
Leftism is all about Power, by inculcating a sense of guilt and leveraging that.
Leftism is not about reason. It is about emotion.
Here is how this will play out. The emotion-driven have the WH and Congress, not because of some moral supremacy, but rather, they were the only alternative available to a gaggle that was mismanaging the country (or so they thought).
The emotion-driven left will set about willy-nilly to right all these perceived wrongs. The result will crater the economy, which will take many lefties with it – at least those not living in some padded cell, such as a tenured Liberal Arts Professor, and the pyramid below that serves to hold such in their esteemed positions.
Enough lefties will be economically damaged by the attempts to fashion utopia, that they will be come – angry – and will turn their emotion towards the next politico that comes along that will hear their grievance.
As the support base turns, the elite lefties will need to keep the sheep in the pen, as it were. Ever more draconian measures will be required in the herding process.
Serial succession seems like a process that might work nicely. One by one, states leave, retreating back to the foundations espoused by the founding fathers. Bit by bit, the pond dries up on the likes of Pelosi, Reid and The Messiah.
If you can’t kick the power-crazed scumbags out, leave them behind.

Democrats dissing Southerners for becoming educated, rich.

The Democrat Party raped the South like an incestuous father raping his daughter all the time she’s unable to protect herself. When she turns on her abuser, he garners all his authority to shut her up and attempt to rebind her into his grasp again. Bastard Carpetbagging Democrat KKK Bogeymen.
Michael Lind makes his point, how to win friends and influence people, to make suckers of the South again, like a well dressed attractive pervert offering candy to a little kid.
Southerners ain’t buying it.

Southerner….
I love history, and love a good piece of fiction too. In his novel ‘The Killer Angels’, Michael Sharra used a Union sergeant, Buster Kilrain, as his nobel ‘everyman’. Kilrain talks to Colonel Chamberlain about slavery and why he fights……
Sergeant ‘Buster’ Kilrain: Well, if he’s an angel, all right then… But he damn well must be a killer angel. Colonel, darling, you’re a lovely man. I see a vast difference between us, yet I admire you, lad. You’re an idealist, praise be. The truth is, Colonel… There is no “divine spark”. There’s many a man alive of no more of value than a dead dog. Believe me. When you’ve seen them hang each other the way I have back in the Old Country. Equality? What I’m fighting for is to prove I’m a better man than many of them. Where have you seen this “divine spark” in operation, Colonel? Where have you noted this magnificent equality? No two things on Earth are equal or have an equal chance. Bit a leaf, not a tree. There’s many a man worse than me, and some better… But I don’t think race or country matters a damn. What matters, Colonel… Is justice. Which is why I’m here. I’ll be treated as I deserve, not as my father deserved. I’m Kilrain… And I damn all gentlemen. There is only one aristocracy… And that is right here.

There, protrayed in this Union soldier, is the Southerner of today. He believes he is king of his own world, and responsible for it too. To us, the “clingers”, words like duty, honor, and justice actually mean something. We fight to pull ourselves through the world, not to drag others along with us. They can come along if they like, or headoff in a different direction. Just don’t try to tell us how wrong we are. That is what drives lefties nuts, Southern refusal to “know our betters”.

I would love to see the redacted parts of Kevin Drum’s “Southern White Culture” post. Google and Yahoo caches aren’t any help. They include a commenter’s speculative “reconstruction” of the post, but not the original text.
