You can’t compete with the government. They never make it a fair fight. Look at what happens with private schools. If you choose a private school, they make you pay twice for the same education. That’s what they call fair. It’ll be the same with government insurance vs. private insurance. The government–uniquely–has powerful instruments of coercion, and they always get used for the benefit of the bureaucracy.

I’m 80 pages into the health bill, and it would clearly give the administration all the powers it needs to extinguish the private insurance industry. Explicit powers are broad, and what would otherwise appear to be circumscribed powers always end with “or whatever the commissioner deems to be appropriate”. Regarding the power to set medical loss rates (ratio between medical payouts and total revenue) there is no limit and the guidance is arbitrary and government-determined. The administration gets to decide what “appropriate” means in both their own actions and the behavior of the insurance companies. Require massive coverage and 90% MLR, and 100 million people drop out of private insurance… and for what? Well, I guess it’s just the insurance companies’ chickens coming home to roost.

This bill cannot be allowed to pass.

all you need to do is continually show video clips of Obama supporting single payer. Just show those clips over and over and people will get madder and madder. You don’t even have to make any other arguments.

Playing those videos over and over again will show that Obama is lying. He’s either lying now or he was lying a couple years ago. . . but he’s lying. Blatantly lying.

Thanks for the responses. I was really thinking about this subject this weekend. I don’t rememeber when so many joe-six packs were so strongly against a subject. These people are not the normal people that show up to political rallies and meetings. This is something usually.

Most people want to own their health care, it very personable to them. If this pushed I can see Texas and 15 to 25 other states, say OK, but we are not going participate in this plan.

Then this is becomes a lighting bolt or “fire bell in the night”. Revolts and Rebellions are started over smaller issues, which then become major movements. For example the Stamp Tax. Because I sense it’s not just health care, but in a deeper since this debate that is the very definition a beliefs in America.

I sort of believed that in the US, you take care of your own. And this independence sprit allow people to believe in themselves and take control of your future. A by-product of this was the grown in the economy, the can do attitude and I can do better attitude!

I think that’s why this health care plan is strongly rejected. It just doesn’t belong here, it just doesn’t smell right.

Again, I worry that if passed we have major problems as a united country. Something I thought I would never see and a President that for the life of me, can’t see it either. What is going on???

On Rush today, Ray from Council Bluffs made a great point. If Health care costs are going to bankrupt the country, what sense would it make to allow anyone to keep their current plans if they wish to?

All that would mean is that the current alleged problems would continue along with the public option expense, a huge net increase in all around spending.

It’s irrefutable: private insurance will die instantly, and the public “option” won’t be so optional.

Imagine what will happen to their stock the day this bill is signed by Obooba. The govt-run insurance won’t kick in until 2013, but what will happen to everyone who’s private insurers go belly up in 2010?
