Quotes of the day
posted at 9:40 pm on August 9, 2009 by Allahpundit
“Everyone seems to ignore that Pelosi started this, saying town hall participants were showing up with swastikas, etc. That’s calling them Nazis, as Dick Durbin referred to our Gitmo interrogators from the Senate floor. I’ve been listening to the left compare George W. Bush to Hitler for eight years. I’ve been listening to Democrats and the left compare conservatism to Nazis my whole career. This time I responded. In kind, by comparing the radical left policies of the Nazis to today’s radical left leadership of the Democrat Party. I’m not surprised they don’t like it.”

Every time one of these idiots get’s into a fight with Rush they quickly retreat and try and pretend it never happened and the media covers the their tracks.

The thing about Brookes’ response that is so upsetting is that it comes from Brookes himself.
You know, Brookes, the well-educated man that probably had to learn something about Nazism and Fascism.

Who is this everyone? I’m not ignoring the fact nor am I ignoring the fact the the filthy liar in the White House showed up at a campaign rally for Criegh Deeds and told the opposition to shut up and get out of the way.
As a resident of Virginia, I’ve asked the Democrat Party chair if Deeds is really holding by the idea that bipartisanship is dead. Still awaiting a response.

Rush really needs to be in Washington.
I am sick of the GOP beltway scared to say the obvious. The Nazi party is the national socialist party for Germany.
If the liberals are going to label republicans and conservatives as Nazis, it’s time to go full scale and label these liberal jerks.
They can not be allowed to create the narrative, and for the GOP to stay silent.
jencab on August 9, 2009 at 10:00 PM
I don’t trust the government to “cut costs”. I expect the government will increase costs, reduce options, crowd out competition and alternatives, drive quality of care into the ground, stifle inovation, put an uncaring ill informed buracrat between me and my doctor, and ration care. If the democrats want me to believe differently, why don’t they demonstrat their ‘cost cutting’ on the current budget? Oh, that’s right, they spent record amounts.

highhopes on August 9, 2009 at 10:00 PM
You have to really really REALLY work at it to be this detached from reality. David Brooks needs to take a little vacation outside the beltway and get reacquainted with the country he purports to live in.
At least he seems to admit that the opposition is more than just superficial and limited to “The Crazies” – whoever they are – but to say that it’s all just a tactical error on the part of the “Best and Brightest” in D.C. is just jaw-dropping stupid!

weewilly on August 9, 2009 at 10:06 PM
It is a very short leap from calling Bush Hitler to calling conservatives Nazi’s, and the Dems have already taken that leap so very willingly.
They are talking about prosecuting Bush for war crimes and CIA agents for interrogation methods. It is a very short leap from there to persecuting conservative dissenters for expressing their views. If you oppose cap-n-trade, you are commiting treason against humanity. If you oppose government healthcare, you are a nazi mobster.
When San Francisco protesters were marching around naked to protest the Iraq war, Bush just shrugged and said ‘isn’t it nice that we have free speech.” Compare that to the reaction to protest by Obama and Pelosi!

And I’m not suggesting that we should go around giving VIP passes to the “real conservatives.”
All I’d say is that the Conservative Movement should have no problem distancing themselves from the Statists that happen to agree with conservatives on 1 or 2 issues.

They are stupid. And HATEFUL. Truly. The whole “Rules for Radicals” and personally demonizing and destroying your opponent as they do is hateful.
Neo-Marxists have been following this old playbook for decades and it seems we are just now seeing that it is ineffective on us an easy game that two can play. It no longer has the self-censoring effect they want. If anything their hateful names are a joke against us while our use of the word Nazi and Marxist are accurate. That’s what they can’t stand. We are correct and they know it. Like light shown on a cockroach, they want to run and scatter but can’t.
Liberals and their Neo-Marxist counterparts are weak bullies. They have created this fake aura of intelligence when really they are some of the stupidest people and most shallow thinkers I have ever met. The whole “elite” aura they try to create is such a joke.
Look, the liberal have one playbook that is 40 years old. It’s not working any more and they have no other alternative. A liberal will always lose an argument with a conservative because Liberals argue from guilt, low self esteem, emotion and torture the facts to try and fit their agenda. They will lie as a means to an end.
Their power and veneer is falling away. They have declared war on the American people and they are in for an ass kicking.

Why not?
His Punditry makes the other Pundits at the NYT feel comfortable.
Upstater85 on August 9, 2009 at 10:12 PM
He wrote Bobos in Paradise which I figure explains why liberals seem more like sleeper cells in the suburbs these days, ready to “urbanize” the troglodyte suburbanites with their grand planning schemes and walkable designs. And it probably explains why so many “red” counties turn “blue” so quickly these days. They don’t have to guts to stay back in the urban core they’ve ruined with their policies and “compassion”.
StevefromMKE on August 9, 2009 at 10:13 PM
Blinky Brooks is obviously a tool being used by the NYT to give the illusion he speaks for “conservatives” in yet another pathetic and failed attempt to isolate Rush Limbaugh and make him look like an extremist. Nice try, dolts. Rush’s audience nearly doubled during the last attempt to isolate him. You think tools like Blinky will negatively impact Rush? Think again.
OneVision on August 9, 2009 at 10:13 PM
Ahhh, Brooks, the Pocket Conservative, the Useful Idiot. Kept around to dutifully bash true conservatives and make liberals look more reasonable, since they can say, “Even conservatives agree.”
Rush makes a valid point: that comparing townhall participants to Nazis is outrageous, because Nancy Pelosi would be closer to the position of Nazis than they are. And Brooks obediently calls Rush insane.
Does it bother Brooks that a high-school-educated radio talk show host is a sharper political commentator than he is?
I’m betting he doesn’t even realize it.

Upstater85 on August 9, 2009 at 10:21 PM
David Brooks doesn’t appear to have the faintest idea as to what is driving costs. What is driving cost, in large part, is the fact that advanced technology is very expensive and is used much more expansively that it has in the past. Shockingly, someone has to pay for the availability and use of diagnostic technology.
Years ago if you went into the ER with a headache you would more than likely be given a shot and sent home after a fairly limited work up. Now, you’re going to receive a $1,000 brain cat scan to rule out the outside chance a patient has a bleed or a growth.
Years ago to rule out a kidney stone you’d receive a $200 IVP, now you get a $1,500 CAT scan of your abdomen and pelvis. Is the patient receiving better diagnostic care? You bet! But who is going to pay for the scans……ultimately consumers.
Of course insurance premiums are going to skyrocket under such a scenario. What Obama-care is proposing is 1980 level insurance premiums but deliver 2009 medical technologies. There is absolutely NO way to square this circle without cramming down costs artificially.
A better question might be, why has MSNLSD’s parent company, GE, continuously raised the prices of their medical equipment & technologies. After all, a GE CAT Scan machine is the most popular and widely used scanner in the US and it costs so much…..Why doesn’t GE offer its 64 slice CT scanner (something not available in the 1980s) at 1980′s prices?
If skyrocketing prices is all it takes to convict a company of price gouging then GE must be guilty. No?

But the parodist was in California, preparing to meet another famously conservative thinker, Milton Friedman, AM’33, in a local public-television debate, taking a socialist position against the free-market economist. As Brooks recalled in the New York Observer, “The show was essentially me making a point, and he making a two-sentence rebuttal which totally devastated my point, and then me sitting there with my mouth hanging open, trying to think what to say. That didn’t immediately turn me into a conservative, but….”
