Obama: “I don’t want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking”

posted at 1:33 pm on August 7, 2009 by Allahpundit

Can you blame him? You’re racists, you’re Nazis, and you’re political terrorists. Why should he listen?

Memo to The One from Peggy Noonan: “You are terrifying us.”

What the town-hall meetings represent is a feeling of rebellion, an uprising against change they do not believe in. And the Democratic response has been stunningly crude and aggressive. It has been to attack. Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the United States House of Representatives, accused the people at the meetings of “carrying swastikas and symbols like that.” (Apparently one protester held a hand-lettered sign with a “no” slash over a swastika.) But they are not Nazis, they’re Americans. Some of them looked like they’d actually spent some time fighting Nazis…

All of this is unnecessarily and unhelpfully divisive and provocative. They are mocking and menacing concerned citizens. This only makes a hot situation hotter. Is this what the president wants? It couldn’t be. But then in an odd way he sometimes seems not to have fully absorbed the awesome stature of his office. You really, if you’re president, can’t call an individual American stupid, if for no other reason than that you’re too big. You cannot allow your allies to call people protesting a health-care plan “extremists” and “right wing,” or bought, or Nazi-like, either. They’re citizens. They’re concerned. They deserve respect.

Like Ace says: It is breathtaking.

Update (Ed): Maybe Obama should listen to his Secretary of State’s words from 2003:

Shut up, he explained.

lorien1973 on August 7, 2009 at 1:33 PM

He is blatantly saying that he will not tollerate dissent.

His disdain for democracy in the clear light of day.

I’m sorry, but this had my blood boiling more than anything he has ever said, ever. Barry, you’re goin’ down with a frown in 2012.

Pasalubong on August 7, 2009 at 1:35 PM

Yesterday, at a rally for R. Creigh Deeds in Virginia, President Obama said: “I don’t want the folks who created the mess do a lot of talking. I want them to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess. I don’t mind cleaning up after them, but don’t do a lot of talking.”

For Barack Obama, democracy appears to be a distraction. He really does seem to view himself as a Caesar.

Shortly after taking office, Obama held a meeting with governors. At the time, one person in the room relayed Obama’s request that critics and skeptics of the stimulus plan keep their concerns to themselves. Just let me do it, was his attitude. He got pushback and he wasn’t happy. He wanted democratically elected state governors to shut up so he could do as he pleased. He knows better and we should respect that, seems to be the attitude.

And if you disagree, you’ll have Rahm to deal with.

HT: NRO Corner.

Hey, this is great. This means he doesn’t want Barney Frank to talk. Chris Dodd better STFU too.

In fact, since Obama was the 2nd leading recipient of Fannie and Freddie money and looked the other way when others proposed reforming the agencies, maybe Obama is going to STFU.

Mr. President. What do you think about the beating of a black conservative man by up to 4 people, with at least 1 a member of the SEIU?

Mr. President, since the people arrested were yelling racial slurs at the man while beating him, shouldn’t they also be charged with HATE CRIMES?

Hell, back in 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it closed. Now we are trusting the economy of our country, our banking system, our auto industry and possibly our health plans to the same nit-wits who couldn’t make money running a whore house and selling whiskey!”

Romeo13 on August 7, 2009 at 1:39 PM

Per Obambi’s own advice, why is he still talking?

aikidoka on August 7, 2009 at 1:39 PM

Peggy Noonan should hardly be considered an anti-Administration spokesperson on this. If I recall correctly, before the election Noonan had a different view of the Niebuhr-savvy Barack:

“His victory would provide a fresh start in a nation in which a fresh start would come as a national relief…He is steady, calm, and, in terms of the execution of his political ascent, still the primary and almost only area in which his executive abilities can be discerned, he shows good judgment in terms of whom to hire and consult, what steps to take and moves to make.”

Noonan is just one more Republican dupe who couldn’t quite make out the true character of The One until it was too late.

Before reading Jonah Goldberg’s book, Liberal Fascism, I would have ignorantly called Obama and the leadership of the Congressional Democrats “fascists”. After reading the book I can confidently call Obama and the Congressional Democrats leadership Fascists.

So much of what Jonah documented regarding what Mussolini, Hitler, Wilson, FDR, and a whole bunch of other leading Progressives advocated and actually accomplished is right out of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid playbook. These people are dangerous to our liberties and must be defeated at every turn.

Look at the non-seasonal adjusted data.

At the bottom of the Birth-Death Model page, they post a non-seasonally adjusted change in month over month employment. July shows a loss of 1,333,000 jobs.

If the President and Democrat members of Congress were serious, which they are not, about real health system reform then they would pass legislation, using the Commerce Clause, to overrule all state level health insurance regulation and nurture a national market. They would allow insurance companies to sell a wide range of policies based on peoples’ needs without costly mandates that cause people to forgo coverage. They would allow for the expansion of HSAs and push high deductible, low premium health insurance plans. They would allow personal tax deductions for health care to help break the employer/health benefits link. They would expand these changes and eventually phase out Medicare and Medicaid by giving participants in those programs prefunded HSA debit cards with which the recipients can buy their own insurance plans and keep the money they don’t spend.

But since their REAL goal is to take over they system and further socialize our free nation they refuse to consider these ideas. The Democrats claim the GOP hasn’t offered any alternatives but each idea I wrote above are current GOP ideas.

The president and Democrat party leadership are simply, statists who seek to control as much of our lives as possible.
